The Pain of Loyalty
Spell Level: epic
Range: 1 mile
Target: sphere with a 1 mile diameter, affecting all within it

The more devoted your opponent is to their current goal, the more the spell will hurt them. Your DM causes an appropriate number of d12's as damage, them having jurisdiction over how devoted they are. Only true devotion, like angels and paladins attacking the gates of hell, or a man fighting to defend his beloved and family, qualify for this. Bloodlust and rage, like a Frenzied Berserker attacking their friends out of anger, or a cult of madmen planning the downfall of a city, as well as conscripted peasents, slaves, etc, recieve only half damage.

Note: I know very little about the workings of epic spells. Please let me know so that I can fill it in appropriately.

You need to set some baselines. For all this spell tells us, the DM could say that Asmodeus would only take 3d12 points of damage.

You should probably make some sort of chart as a general outline of Devotion "ranks" or whatever you call them ranging from "Commanded to do this" to say "I volunteered to do this, even if it will kill me" or somethen like that, and then assign the D12 damage on each rank

Maybe have a DC of 100 and have your enemy roll a will save to get UNDER 20, if they fail, they take (will save bonus)d4 points of damage

ST: That would be right, except that then the C bard would tak more damage then the L fighter. Which doesn't make much sense.

X: I like that idea.

MB: Meh, I have none of the epic books, so I can't really judge that.
