So anyway, I'm in a game where my party has gone on a dungeon crawl (Sunless Citadel), and after beating it, we will probably have the favour of the inhabitant kobolds for driving their enemies the goblins from the citadel

So we want to try and use the kobolds to form an army to take over the local village where we were sent from on the quest in the first place, and then build an evil fortress using the enslaved humans.

Has anybody ever came up with rules for training soldiers? Our kobold warriors would be far more effective if we trained them up with just one level in fighter!

I can't recall any real rules for training soldiers. I'd say, base their abilities on the teacher i.e. An intelligent, well spoken fighter= A good trainer. As for inspirational leaders, just use the party face (If you have one).

Try having them run obstacle corses for xp.
