Since this seems to be the trendy thing to do i am starting a contest.

I am asking for someone to make me a deck of cards. Face out and relatively small. Best deck gets used in an upcoming game. That is all thank you in advance for doing this.

So is making cards harder than it sounds?
Or is noone interested.

I'll give it a try. You want a 36, or a 52 card deck?

2007-10-21, 12:56 AM
It's not that making a deck is hard, per se, it's simply that:
1) We don't know what kind of cards that you want
2) Making 52 different works of art is really time-consuming.

Indeed. "Best deck gets used..." doesn't quite work here. We need to know exactly what you'd like to see because none of us have the time to make 52 cards you might not use.

To clarify 52 cards.

If several decks are made i will use them all. Probably mix things up.

Also you really only have to make 13 cards with a slight symbol variation in the corner. I don't need it too fancy.

You can just have the card with (example) 10* in the corner. I don't need the symbols in the middle.

Thank you whoever does this.

I'm working on one, but having some trouble with it.
Here is what I have so far:

suites: Roaches (spades), Banjo (hearts), greenhilt sword (diamond) and.. ??? (clubs).

Roaches: K= Xykon, Q=Redcloak, J=CitD
Banjo: K=Elan Q=Haley J=Belkar (the three members of the Church of Banjo/ the three Chaotic ones)
Greenhilt Sword: K=Roy Q=Vaarsuvius J=Durkon
???: K=Nale, Q=Sabine, J=Thog.

Jokers: Stick (order of the stick) and Crown (Xykon's crown).

I need a suite for the linear guild. Ideally, the suite works for all of them, otherwise it has to be best suited for the King (Nale).

Aces are just the "one of something", so one big cockroach, the Greenhilt sword, Banjo, etc.

Cards from 2 to 10 have the appropriate number of the suite symbol, as well as the number written in the corner.

I also need to work on a design for the back of the cards. The stick is already taken for a joker, so I guess I'll just have "the order of the stick" written on the backs or something.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

By the way, it probably won't be done in time, so doun't count too much on it, i'm now working on it to use it for myself, although I'll be happy to share (as long as it's legal. I intend to draw all the characters in my own style so that it qualifies as fanart and doesn't violate the copyright).

EDIT: here is the Greenhilt sword. Not in a card, yet, just the drawing itself.

And now I have the roach as well. (I decided against drawing the mandibules. I know, they're there even in the STICK drawing, but I thought it would look more demonic with teeth).

And here is Banjo:

EDIT: and here you go, my Spades cards minus K, Q and J.

And my Diamonds cards:

And here are my Hearts cards. i'll have to make banjo's outline thicker, though.

Am I the only one posting in this thread? I've been editing the same post for 8 hours! I'd like to make sure I'm not posting all this for nobody.

Thanks :)
I think I'll have "blueprints" being the last suite, as I didn't get any suggestions and that's the only suite left to draw.

Here you go, "Clubs"

I guess they lookd more like diamonds, but I don't really care, as in this deck, the suits are banjos, Greenhilt swords, demon roaches and blueprints. I gave them the other name just in case you want to play a game for which it matters.

Anyway, I'll be working on the face cards now.

Almost forgot the jokers! Here you go:

Here is the royalty:

The numbers will be ready soon.

P.S. in case you wonder, its all legal.

Thank you both Baboon Army and Lissou. I will use both your decks in a saloon style texas hold em' game coming up soon.

You guys are made of win and talent.

Just to keep you informed, I'm working on Nale.

The face cards should be longer to do, so I'll post sketches and not only the final card.

So, here is my work in progress on Nale:

Behold! The greatness of numbers!....ehm...yea....

The jokers will be ready soon.

I've finished the King and Queen of blueprints:

I did some backs. Most backs are blue or red, and I didn't know which you'd prefer (if you need any at all, of course), so I did both.
Please tell me (someone) if I'm not allowed to have backs that say "the Order of the Stick(tm)", and I will work on something else instead. But for now, here you go:

Thank you so much both of you. I like lissou's realistic take on OotS characters. And Baboon's cards have a simplistic yet nicely put together style to them.

Thanks, Raiser, it's nice to know your work is appreciated :)

And here is the complete blueprints suite:

And now, the complete banjos suite:

Sorry, it's been a while, but I was working on Vaarsuvius and I had to do it again because, well, it's hard :p.
Here you go, though:

=o Wow you actually made vaarsuvius look like a she/he.

I'm glad you like it :)

Here is our favourite fearless leader.

He doesn't look happy, I wonder what Elan just did :p.

And here you go, the whole Greenhilt swords suite.

I'm not very happy with Durkon but I'm not good with dwarves, so that's as good as it will get.

Thanks :)
I've been enjoying yours too. I'm wondering, though, what if you added the symbols next to the number cards, too? It might be easier at first glance... Of course, you can see the symbols right under the number, but, as you put them next to the face card letters... Just saying, it's your call. :)
Any special reason you did it this way ?

And... Here is Xykon!

No special reason, it just seemed too crowded to me, especially with the large numbers and I didn't want to make the symbols smaller...so thats about it.

Makes sense. Especially since I kinda did the oposite: my face figures have the symbol only twice, instead of in all four corners, to allow for bigger images.

And without further ado, let me introduce you to the Creature in the Darkness!

Only Redcloak left....
I'm thinking I might also design a box to put the cards in. If I feel like it, and after I'm done... That would allow me to put Rich's name somewhere, and even mine :p

Gosh, I wish i knew someone who could print that game for me, now I want to play with it and my printer sucks.

"This isn't the 'Recloak dresses in drag' plan, is it?"

Plus, as I did it for the others, here is the complete cockreaches suite:

And a try on the red box. I'll work on the same one in blue when I have some time.

So... I'm mostly done. Hurray :)

Hope you enjoy playing with it, Raiser. I had fun working on it :)
