View Full Version : Wizard/Sorcerer Questions For An Old Returning Player

Hello everyone. Recently I got back into playing D&D with an old DM friend of ours and he wanted to start us out at level eight. Roughly a month has gone by and we've managed to just hit 12th level. Here enters my question.

I'm a half-elf sorcerer/wizard (don't ask lol). With the introduction to all of the new 3.0 and 3.5 stuff, I'm a bit confused at what feats and spells are best for me to choose. In our campaign, I'm essentially the artillery.

Our group consists of two fearsome fighters, a druid, a cleric, a (sometimes shows up) witch hunter, and myself.

We've been given access to any books available (WotC or not) as long as they're for the d20 system and D&D. I ask of you all, who have greater knowledge than I on this, what feats and spells would you suggest.

Thus far, I've been advised by some people to take things like....

Feats
Sculpt Spell
Additional Magic Item Space
Tenacious Magic
Intensify Spell
Empower Spell
Maximize Spell

I'm sure my question is lacking more detail, but I hope I've included enough information. My apologies as well for being so random with this, but after Googling up questions, I found your forum to be the best and so I decided to join. Thank you.

Intensify Spell (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/feats.htm#intensifySpell) and Additional Magic Item space (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/feats.htm#additionalMagicItemSpace) are Epic feats, are they not?

Edit- Indeed they are. (http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/epicFeats.htm)

Also, the inevitable link: Being Batman (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19085)

What is your sorc/wizard split? You might want to go into that one PrC that grants duel arcane progression (I don't remember the name).

Ultimate Magus, Complete Mage

Ultimate Magus for the win. Also take Practiced Spellcaster once or twice so your caster levels don't skew.
Use your Wiz slots for utility and Sorc slots for more direct things. By direct, I mean buffs, battlefield control, and often used utility. Disintegrate being the ideal spell. Can do damage, make an instant pit trap, and make dungeon delving so much easier.

Take Practiced Spellcaster for both of your classes, and for your sake, take the Ultimate Magus prestige class. Wizard/Sorcerer is a terrible combination without it.

You'll also probably want Quicken Spell and Maximize Spell, and whatever other metamagic feats sound good to you. Your strength lies in the versatility and number of your spells, so Spell Focus probably won't have as good of returns as it normally does.
