with my English essay, no really, I'm relying on complete strangers in a forum that I rarely frequent to contribute their two cents into my paper, if you all are willing of course.

Anyway, it's about the internet as a form of social interaction, my choice making more sense now? Anyway, I was defending all the EQ and WOW people out there in one paragraph, and, I know how to spell "nerd", as that's what I chose to deem them, but I'm having a little trouble "nerdette", or one who is a nerd, but female.
If anyone has a better way to spell it or phrase it, your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Female nerds.

Just call them nerds. It's what I call myself.

Alright, I'll go for it.
Thank you.

I agree with Castaras, just call them female nerds.

Edit: I'm just so helpful that I surprise even myself.

I don't know why you need such a phrase, after all they're entirely hypothetical beings...where I live, at least. :smallwink:

Actually, I quite like "nerdette", although if you're writing a paper at a high level I don't need to tell you to steer clear of neologisms.

High level...pssht. I'm working at a high school level for a teacher that is more about hating his job and making snappy comebacks than actually teaching us. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I wrote casually.

Thank you for your advice and warning.

And I believe that there is no need for a special term for female nerds.

As said, no special terms. However, I like "Nerdette" and "Nerdame" myself.

Nerd has a gender? :smallconfused: I'm not native English so I assumed it was just genderless and used for males predominately because that's the respective group to talk about in 90% of the cases.

I fail to see how this is a problem. Everyone knows that females don't use the internet, and they certainly don't play video games.

I fail to see how this is funny anymore. http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3931/rolleyes0qd.gif

Important lesson in life, grasshopper... let all jokes remain funny forever.

Then that only proves it was never funny in the first place.

You do realise that since its you writing the paper, you can call them whatever you want, provided you make it explicit that you're making the term up for use within said paper, right? So call them 'nerdettes' if you like, but if literally the only distinction between them and 'nerds' is their gender, then you've no reason to need a seperate term, as all you're doing is sparing yourself the pain of having to write a whole one more single word each time you refer to them.

...and one more whole word would raise his word count, so he'd WANT to do that. :smallwink:

Dragonrider gets the idea.
And, yes, I did make reference to their non-existence, so I think I've got most of my bases covered. Essentially, since nerd does not have a gender I was making a distinction to raise my word count and poke fun at the fact that they do in fact exist.

I just wanted to see what the existent female nerds preferred to be called.

"Nerdette" sounds far too similar to "Smurfette" to me...

Anyway, I'm a geek :smalltongue:
