Alright, it's not so much a contest because I don't really intend to give out prizes or anything. I was curious, though, what do people think are their best, ootsiest avatars? What did you finish, sit back, and think "uh oh, I hope noone thinks I just cut out the Giant's work..."? (I'm hoping Alinne will post here, if only because she was accused of exactly this) I'm not after the fanciest, the most spectacular, the loveliest or the most complicated - in fact, these could be exactly what I'm not after. Just pure, simple, oots.
Here's the closest I think I've gotten:

I suppose my Serpentine is fairly close, too...

It's been said that my artwork just needs some "polish" and then it's identical to Burlewan artwork, but I'm not sure what the heck they mean by "polish" :smallconfused:

"Polish"?

Meh, dunno, but does it really have to be the same? I think it's better if everyone has their own style, and I much like yours the way it is now.

I think this is the closest I've got, even though Mr Scuffy isn't very good.

Mine would be this one:

I believe that Wampa got several PMs saying it had been cut out of the comic...

Meh, dunno, but does it really have to be the same? I think it's better if everyone has their own style, and I much like yours the way it is now.No, it doesn't, but then, that's not the point of my thread. Most of the people here like to have an oots-style avatar. The Giant's style is simple but challenging and fun, and personally I'd like to try to get that style down - not an easy project - before I start getting creative. I'm tired enough of people getting all high and mighty about their "own style" in the rest of the forum, I'd like to keep it out of here, please. I know people can have their own styles, and I know many of them do it very well and make great artwork. I also happen to like the Giant's style and consider some of the best avatars to be the ones that keep it as simple as that. That is why I started this thread: so I could see the best of these. Not to attract "my art is better than your art" pretensions. :smallannoyed:

DarkCorax, that's awesome. And Dr Bath, fantastic as always.
LazyJamaicanMaybe, it's not as easy as it looks to get it just right, is it? :smallwink: (damn close, though)

I guess that'd be Banjo's avatar:

I wish I could say I've never had that joke, but it's something I've been called before. Also, a digimon :smalltongue:

I think what separates me from the Giant is probably colouring, that could be the "polish". The Giant's characters and landscapes tend to be slightly less saturated than mine, which is as a habit quite colourful.

I didn't mean it in that way, I meant that everyone's Oots looks different, and I like that, if everyone's Oots were the same, then it would be kinda boring and there would be no need for these contests.

Sure it wasn't me? I know I've used something similar before...
I think it's something around the eyes and the lines... Could be because of the program, maybe. Ionno. Still good.

Hmm, I've only ever made one thing that was actually based from the comic.

Wait, I suppose I did make two things...

As for sticking to 'oots style', I ALWAYS try to do that. For some reason, pseudo-oots style irritates me, like how Ceikatars always have the eyes too big.

Some things I think are pretty close to OOTS.

By the way, has any squirreled away my old rocket boots drawing and/or my drawing of the zombie dragon Xykon rode? Or at least have any idea where to find them? Those are very close to OOTS.

I can't seem to find a lot of my drawings on either my old computer, my new, or my LaCie, and I'd really like to have those two especially. :smallfrown: I've tried searching, but alas, no luck.

EDIT: YES! I've found one out of two.

Sneak, those are really nice. I'm wondering though what circumstances led you to drawing Elan "having an adventure"

Here's the current version of the avatar I'm creating in the Inkscape/OotS avatar tutorial I'm working on:

http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/2636/swashavatarek8.png

I'm hoping to capture the OotS style as best as I can with it; I'm pretty new to OotS avatar creation I'm hoping it's close enough for the creators here. The tutorial is almost finished: I still need to work on the pose and maybe the expression, I think, and then do a whole bunch of editing before I can post it.

I also consider this one to be rather oots-ish compared to most stuff I do (though i always try to be as close to orignal oots style as possible)
