...because every year there has to be one that I am looking for that seems not to exist.

Has this in it...

"I'll be home for Christmas, no I would never miss it. Christmas by the fire side with that family of mine. Christmas day you'll find me, with the miles behind me. I'll make it home on time."

But the only places I can find that have the lyrics are posts made by other people trying to find the name of the song.

I think that's "I'll Be Home For Christmas".

Yeah, sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one.

If it is, it's not the one that normally has that name and doesn't help me much as all I will get is the original song if I do a search.

Maybe if the name of the singer could also be found...

Aye, don't think that is it.

In the beginning you also have him singing in a sort of melancholy voice something like, "I remember the moonlight on the meadow..." and then "Dad will be wondering how I'm doing. Mother will be praying as she does..."

Thing is, these lyrics cannot be found anywhere except for other posts where people are trying to find this song.

Just amazing to me how many songs I try to find that somehow has never even been mentioned online.

I really doubt it's the version of I'll be home for Christmas that I'm thinking of mainly because the words are:

I'm dreamin' tonight of a place I love
Even more then I usually do
And although I know it's a long road back
I promise you

I'll be home for Christmas
You can count on me
Please have snow and mistletoe
And presents under the tree
Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams

Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love light beams
I'll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
If only in my dreams

Tadaaa! I have the answer! I just LOVE this song...my favorite Christmas song.

It's by Roger Whittaker and it's called "Home for Christmas" on the 1984 record "TrueValue Happy Holidays Vol.19". I see it's also on his 1997 CD called Happy Holidays and another CD of his called "Christmas Album" [ http://www.amazon.com/Roger-Whittaker-Christmas-Album/dp/B000003FSQ ].

Merry Christmas!

Here's the lyrics as best I can figure out from listening:

"Home for Christmas" - Roger Whittaker

I can picture the moonlight on the meadow,
I know just how it will look this time of year,
The valley in the snow, the friendly smiles I know,
But that's so many miles away from here.

Father will be wondering how I'm doing,
Mother will be praying like she does,
But I'll get home again, Oh how long it's been,
Since Christmas is the way that Christmas was.

Chorus:
I'll get home for Christmas, no I'd never miss it,
Christmas by the fireside with that family of mine,
Christmas day will find me, with the miles behind me,
I'll make it home on time.

Christmas Eve will be time for all my memories,
I'll share the greatest love I've ever known,
As gentle voices sing, now the church bells ring,
Christmas Eve I know will find me home.
