Yeah, if i knew how to do that on sodipodi, making connections between textboxes would be so much easier....

Um, no, I don't think that is possible, but there are certainly methods of cheating.

Yeah, I don't think it's possible... you'd need your lines and fill box to be separate.

Actually, you can. Give me a second to put together a screenshot tutorial...

Edit: Nevermind, I was wrong. The way I was thinking of doesn't work.

Well yes, you can get that appearance, but it can't be one object can it? Not technically?

Well, it can be a single object if you group it. But you're right, you can't make it as a single object from the get-go.

The only way I can see that done is making two lines, and a box with no outlines but then that would be 3 objects. It still can always be grouped...

I haven't tried this, but I think it should work.

It does work; I've tried it before. The problem is that it takes awhile to line everything up perfectly, so I don't really use it unless absolutely necessary.

If you need it slanted the best way would be to make it straight up and down or side to side, then use transform to rotate it.

You cannot make it as a single object in any program, the program cant simple take a guess on how do you want to fill it.

jest make it 3 objects and group them.

How to make an object in inkscape with perfectly shaped stroke lines on only one or two sides.

Create the object you want, with four or three sides.
Duplicate it and remove stroke lines.
Take the original with the lines, remove the fill and then use the option to "break path at specific nodes" which can be accessed while you are in node editing mode to split the original into three lines, then delete the two nodes of the line you don't want.

Step by step demonstration below:

First, create your object. I'll make a rectangular thingy colored green.

The second step is to duplicate that object (select the object and use Ctrl + D and a new object exactly like it will appear on top). I'll change the color of the duplicate object to red, just so it'll be obvious.
After you have your duplicate, you bring up the Fill and Stroke window (ctrl + shift + f) and go to the Stroke Paint tab, and press the button labeled with an "X" (No paint). This gives you the "inside" of the object.

After that, lower your newly created filling piece to the back (using the Lower Selection to Bottom button which should be found up at the top left when you've got a piece selected) and then select your first piece. Remove the fill of it in the same way you removed the stroke of the first piece.
You'll end up with a frame around the color you want.

Now, here is the last step. Select the node function and click on your frame. Up in the top left you'll find the node editing options. You'll want to select the four corner nodes and then use "Break Path at Selected Nodes."

After this, you should be able to select the nodes of the two pieces you don't want and drag them away from the main piece (and delete them from there).

Very nice, Vael. I forgot about breaking the nodes off. :smallconfused:

In my version of sodipodi, the only node-option i have is to delete them. The other buttons dont work.

I also use Vael's method to do that effect. I can't think of a way to do that in Inkscape without two or more objects. In those cases I usually just duplicate the object and have one for the fill, one to break up for the stroke.
