These sorts of things come up fairly regularly so I thought I'd start one for general use. Mostly because of this:

Exploding dog causes fire. (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=341798)
"Exploding dog 'sparks scare at crematorium'
Thursday Jan 3 15:02 AEDT

An exploding frozen dog has been blamed for sparking a fire scare at a pet crematorium in the Northern Territory.

Fire engines in Darwin rushed to the crematorium Wednesday night after a passing motorist reported the premises were on fire.

It said emergency services personnel reported a "red glow" coming from the crematorium's chimney flue and called the owner, fearing the property was alight.

The ABC reported that the owner concluded that a frozen dead dog in the furnace was the cause of the overheating chimney, explaining to the gathered emergency workers that the chilled canines sometimes exploded when cremated.

A Northern Territory emergency services spokeswoman confirmed that police and fire fighters attended the crematorium and left after realising the property was in no danger.

She was unable to confirm the report that an exploding dog was behind the scare."

What worries me is that this is common. Remind me not to cremate my dog :smalleek:

Frozen dogs exploding when in a crematorium? How awfully morbid. Actually, that's kind of funny, in a horribly black sense. I mean, damn.

Forget not cremating dogs--I'm hesitant now to get cremated myself!

Frozen exploding dogs. What is the world coming to! By golly!

Why do people always forget to press the "defrost" button first?

Can you imagine that call to the emergency services? "Hello... There's a fire at the crematorium... Hello?"

Well... at least the doggie went with a bang

Sorry, someone had to make that horrible joke...

Kinda creepy, also funny, but more creepy.

Agreed. For someone I find the notion of exploding dogs incredibly funny. I think I may have some sort of screw loose. Thanks for confirming that for me :smallamused:

This reminds me of the (in fact, true) story of Oregon's Exploding Whale...

Bad things happen to dead things. Think about it: if you had to experience even the first few days of what happens to you when you've passed, you'd... well, you'd probably die.

As a (near) Paducahan, I'm familiar with the story of Speedy. Anyone else know it, or will I have to regale you?

If they know a frozen dog is likely to explode, why on earth don't they check the dog's temperature before cremation?
