View Full Version : The Endless Castle of Stereotypes
2008-01-10, 03:24 PM
Your group has been together for a few years now. You have faced orcs and goblins as well as many other monsters. You have been hired, due to your reputation, by a town to clear this castle out.
You walk up a mountain an easy hike for the most part and as you continue the dark castle begins to loom darkly over your hearts. One or more of you wonders if perhaps you have bitten off more than you can chew. As you open the doors torches in the room ignite brightening on one of the most beautiful entrance halls you have ever seen however the torches, however, are giving off a pale blue light giving the room a sickeningly haunting appearance.
The only question become which way do you go. There are two ascending staircases wrapping around a chandelier. Underneath the staircases is a double door that you surmise leads to a hallway. You have no idea what might be upstairs.
2008-01-10, 04:08 PM
Dak'kon strolls into the castle door and looks around with his normally glazed expression. He looks to his group and says, "Downstairs sounds good to me. I don't want to walk any more stairs than I have to." While Dak'kon might look and seem slow his mind is very sharp and he peers around the room trying to detect any sign of anything out of place.
2008-01-10, 04:09 PM
Walking in the room, Braxus looks around, grunting a few times...
well what ways sounds best to start.
Braxus walks across the room to give a listen at the door and stairs, while still keeping his eyes open.
2008-01-10, 04:29 PM
You know Dak'kon, even if we go down you'll still have stairs. Sul says with a grin hoping he knows he was just kidding around. I suppose we could go down a level and check things out.
2008-01-10, 04:33 PM
"Whoooooaaaaa, cooooool..." The unseen pixie's voice resonates through the hall. "...It's so dark, I can't even see my hands in front of my face!" The party has known Jazz long enough to expect this sort of behavior from her. A giant mushroom with a deep, slow voice reminds her that she is invisible. "Oh, yeah! I keep forgetting! Thanks, Sugnuf!"
2008-01-10, 05:27 PM
Hide: [roll0], lolz
In case anyone is wondering, the mushroom is a Permanent Image.

Hey, I resemble that remark! :smalltongue:
"Door's good!" The foot-tall goblin scurries over to the door and inspects it for a moment. He reaches into a thimble-sized pouch at his waist and draws out a slender pole 10 times his height. Balancing it precariously in his tiny hands, he pokes and prods the edges a moment before motioning anyone to continue through to the passage.

E137 says succinctly, "God, no underground. Let's go up. As long as we don't have to hit the underground, I don't have any problem with stairs."
2008-01-12, 10:59 AM
Antar speaks in his gutteral voice "who cares which way. Lets go now, I'm tired of waiting.... Its been like 3 seconds!"
Antar rushes through the doorway at a lope.
2008-01-12, 11:13 AM
Letting Antar head in first and choose the way, Braxus is just a few steps behind him, not wanting him to get to far ahead and get all the action
Hey!, just b/c you faster don't mean you can take all the fun
2008-01-12, 12:48 PM
"Downstairs, upstairs doesn't matter to me," Dak'kon drawls as he strolls in behind those who rushed through the door.
2008-01-12, 01:26 PM
e137 Follows closely. "I suppose you're right, it doesn't matter, It's all to do with personal preference. And mine is up."
2008-01-12, 04:01 PM
Sul fallows behind with his longbow in hand. Bout time lets do this.
2008-01-13, 11:44 PM
Nothing other than the blue light is really out of place.
You ascend the staircase noting the intricate lattice work on the banister. You open the door...this hallway does not light up but you do hear a pounding down at the end.
(those of you with darkvision cannot see far enough down the hallway to see the source)
2008-01-14, 01:13 PM
e137 asks the group"So what do you say, guys? Subtle way, or not-so-subtle way?"
2008-01-14, 02:59 PM
Well, i am a little sneaky, but not really...
wait.. that was a pot shot at halflings wasn't it???
Inside e137's mind he then hears Braxus's voice RACIST RACIST, not all of us our sneaky little backstabbers!!!
once again to the group alright, well let me try to sneak down there and see what i can see.
2008-01-14, 03:05 PM
Lets just get a little closer and see what is making that sound. Then...We'll kill it.
He starts walking cautiously towards the noise, bow drawn.
2008-01-14, 05:34 PM
Sneaking forwards, Antar's nostrils dilate as he busily engages his other major sense in an attempt to figure out what is makig the noise.

Jazz whispers, "You stay here, Sugnuf," and dazedly floats in the air just behind Braxus.
2008-01-14, 09:15 PM
The minigoblin scurries into the shadows. "I gots left!" He begins to scurry thereafter.
Heh, ANTAR GOT A FOUR!

Dak'kon sees all that is going on and lazily strolls after the rest of the group, not seeming to worried about the booming sounds ahead.
2008-01-15, 10:26 AM
E137 draws his greatsword, following along.
2008-01-15, 06:19 PM
Jazz draws her crossbow, just in case one of the fuzzy purple monsters she sees isn't a hallucination.
2008-01-15, 06:46 PM
Um, is there Out of Character thread for this game?
And, more importantly, I presume my slot is still open?
[sorry for the delay, I had very complicated weekend] :smallsigh:
2008-01-19, 02:07 AM
((OOC:Sorry for the absence I was really sick and on stuff that made my mind a bit fuzzy. Ibles yes you can still play. No there is no OOC thread because I never read them.))
As you walk down the hallway slowly towards the pounding you see a very large humanoid shape. It is about 12 feet tall and is wreathed in blue black flames that give off no light. He appears to be pounding on a door. It turns to regard you as approach. It smiles at you as a hungry gleam enters its eyes.
2008-01-19, 02:33 AM
Sul rapidly fires off two arrows at the giant.
If it is within 30ft., +1 atk, dmg...Hope not though, darkvision 60ft.

Bogrot slinks along the side of the hallway, doublemoving to reach the far side of the glowy fellow. He figures that he might actually succeed in breaking down the door - why disturb him now? If he proves implacable, Bogrot thinks merrily, at least I'll be in flanking position.
2008-01-20, 01:10 AM
Jazz doesn't like to get eaten! As a reflex, she fires off a magic missle!
Meanwhile, a halfing image holding a large shield and a bastard sword advances around to flank the enemy! "Go get 'im, Foster!"
Move up within 60 feet, also.
Permanent Image, Will disbelief, DC 23

((gonna give Irbis one more day then I will post actions.))
2008-01-22, 08:48 PM
is this an attack of opportunity moment for me then? its a reach weapon which i use... and i have this snazzy ability to create a bull rush 4/day... so perhaps it never got close :p
2008-01-24, 03:13 AM
Sul and Bogrot 20
A magic missile appears from nowhere smashing into the monsters body. He almost misses a step but seems only a little hurt by it. Your halfling also advances.
The skilled marksman Sul fires two arrows from his devastating bow and now the monster definitely staggers when the first arrow hits. The staggering causes the second arrow to miss its mark my millimeters.
Bogrot moves closer but takes no action.
Antar charges in whipping his chain striking him squarely across the jaw dislocating it.
Dak'kon moves closer to the melee activating a protective psionic barrier around himself.
The monster closes on Antar and places his burning hand on your chest. While you think it is going to be hot it is actually one of the coldest things you have ever felt. It is so cold in actually disintegrates a small piece of your flesh off. (7 cold damage + 1 Charisma Damage.) You see his dislocated jaw actually pop back in.
Braxus charges in after Antar and attacks with his claw (you only get one attack on a charge plus the second wouldn't have hit anyway.) You leave deep scars into its chest but you feel the cold fire bite at you as you slash him. (3 cold damage) He also puts his hand on you as well and while it wasn't that painful you are already cold and it freezes a large chunk of flesh right off your chest. (4 cold damage + 6 charisma damage) The arrow pops out of his flesh and while it is not healed it does look better.
2008-01-24, 09:42 AM
HP 51/64 +3fast healing on my turn 54/64
T: 13 F: 20
i actually get 2 attacks on a charge, i have pounce, which let's me get a full attack action when i charge : ) but as you said.. would have missed either way
Growling with pain from this searing cold, Braxus redoubles his efforts on this creature and also begins to close some of his own wounds
2008-01-24, 02:17 PM
Seeing the pain caused by touching this creature Dak'kon decides to keep his distance. He draws and throws two shurikens in quick succesion.
2008-01-24, 03:14 PM
Sul rapidly fires off another two arrows at the giant.
2008-01-24, 05:23 PM
Jazz concentrates on her illusion and makes the halfling run around behind the creature to flank him as she tries to gauge whether or not her decoy is effective.
Again, Permanent Image, Will disbelief DC 23... Since the spell has the "figment" subschool, I don't think undead are immune to it. (Just in case the monster is undead)
2008-01-24, 05:56 PM
HP : 26 (19)
AC : 22, T : 14, FF : 18
Backing up slightly to put Braxis between him and the monster, his spiked chain
just curious if i should roll a Attack of opportunity for the baddie closing with me to attack... after all, reach 10. if so, here it is.
Reach 10, To Hit : [roll0]
aand the attack roll from this round
Reach 10, To Hit : [roll2]
just in case, here is a crit confirmation roll [roll4]
2008-01-28, 03:27 AM
((It appears we have lost Bogrot))
It doesn't ignore the thing as a matter of fact when it passes it reaches for it to drain it like it drained the others but its hand passes right through...now its ignoring it.
Sul knocks two arrows burying one in its chest and the other in the creatures flaming face. The arrow hits it between the eyes pinning it to the door it was pounding on.
((as to your question Jael, no you would not get an attack of opportunity because the creature was already in your threat range when it advanced on you. It didn't get one against you since you didn't enter his threat range to attack him but you don't get one either.))
2008-01-28, 08:01 AM
Jazz fires her crossbow, then quickly reloads it, ready to fire it off again next round.
[roll0] (+7 DEX, +1 Size, +1 WF, +1 PBS, +1 Enhancement, -4 for firing into melee) (remember to ignore DEX bonus)
[roll1], and [roll2] cold (if it's not immune)
2008-01-28, 11:14 AM
With a smile on his face from the success of his last attack he fires off another two arrows at the giant.
2008-01-29, 02:33 AM
((Uh the creature is dead, hence the arrow going through its eyes pinning it to the door))
2008-01-29, 08:35 AM
Idly rubbing his wound, Antar searches the body.
Then he moves up to the door, and listens carefully.
2008-01-29, 11:07 AM
((Overkill :smallwink: ))
Sul cautiously aproches the the corpse, slightly behind Antar.
2008-01-29, 11:05 PM
Dak'kon will try to recover his two shurikens and waits patiently as others check out the door.
2008-01-29, 11:46 PM
"I am hurt. Anyone heal me?"
2008-01-30, 02:36 AM
Your search even though it was a lousy search is still good enough to realize that he has NO gear on him he isn't even wearing clothes. As for your listen check you hear a voice calling through the door speaking in a language you don't understand.
2008-01-30, 07:34 PM
(Still here! Sorry, just lurking at the door... is this a language that anyone conceivably *could* have, or it a Plot-Shielded babble language?)
2008-01-31, 09:34 PM
((it is a language that people can know its just most people don't choose ignan as one of their languages))
2008-02-04, 07:31 PM
Thoroughly unimpressed with the results of his last attempt at door-opening, he strides miniature strides over to the door and pushes it open. "Helloooooo? Everybody out, last call. Don't make us come in there!" As he looks at the scene on the other side of the door, he says sideways to his companions, "Say, does anyone speak Grumble?"
2008-02-07, 12:07 PM
Sul rushes over to the little companion with bow drawn, Are you trying to get yourself killed? He looks through the door and and looks around.
