View Full Version : Flight of Dragons

You find yourself in a rather small, dank room on an unseasonably warm Autumn day. The room, itself, measures 15ft x 12ft. Rather uncomfortable benches line the grey walls, providing the only seating other than the dirt floor. The only other article in the room is a small basin containing holy water. If it wasn‘t for the fact that you knew this was the entrance to the Church of St. Cuthbert, this basin would be your only clue.

A group of 6 (yourself included), occupy the room. A Halfling and a Human sit in the corner, keeping mostly to themselves. The Halfling is dressed in loose fitting clothes; at his side, a sack filled with musical instruments clunks as he shifts his weight on the stiff bench. The Human, adorned in green dragon scale armor opens his eyes and mutters for the Halfling to remain still. He then returns to his rest. The Halfling’s mouth hangs open, ready to protest, but he just as quickly clamps it shut. Resound to his boredom, he stands on his bench and tries to wipe one of the yellow windows clean.

Upon closer inspection of the duo, you notice that the Human looks rather ‘roughened up’. Several scars line his face and hands. A patch of skin on his left cheek looks fresh in pink, a stark contrast between the rest of his tanned, weather beaten skin. A sword hangs at his hip in a magnificent scabbard with etchings of a dragon on it. At his feet lays a bow at least as tall, if not taller, than the Halfling.

The Halfling looks young, even for his kind. Your best guess is that he is in his mid to late teens. He has a young and lively face. His eyes never seem to stay in the same place for long. You’ve each had your turn under his sparkling gaze, before it darted away to something more interesting. Unlike the Human, the Halfling appears unarmed. His loose fitting green and brown clothing and the bag seem to be his only possessions.

You have all been waiting in this room for close to half an hour. The notice had given the time and date to arrive, but shortly after then a rather large, bald man told you that the trip would be pushed back shortly because of an “unforeseen circumstance”. With that, he left and he, nor anyone else for that matter, has come back.

The Halfling, resound to the fact that the window will never clean up, plops back down on the bench, his feet singing back and forth.

[OOC: tonberryking: Sorry about this, but your character isn’t there yet. The whole being a captive thing is playing in right now, but you’ll be in soon enough.

As for now. Everybody may make introductions and such. Get acquainted. ]

Ciel

On one of the benches is a tired looking raptoran. He sits crouched down with his wings acting as a cloak, wrapping themselves over his body. His only extremities not covered by this feathery blanket are a pair of sharp looking talons, partially hanging from the edge of the stone bench, and a head covered in brown feathers instead of hair, it's eyes shifting between a bored like mid closed or a sleep like full closure. After said head moves back and lets out a deep yawn, the eyes seem to open up entirely in a surprised expression before trying to hold on to the form of an alert look.

Determined not to let it happen again, his wings unfurl enough to let his gaunt legs drop to the floor and his hands caress his closed eyes before resting on his lap. Now hunched over, he lets his wings fold up behind him. "So... All of us here saw the ad I assume?" He turns to each of the others in turn and continues. "Well, if we're going to be traveling to Solchar together, it might be a bit more comfortable if we at least knew each other's name." He pauses again, looking at each of the others before continuing. "I'm Ciel, it's a pleasure to meet you all."

The Human in the dragon scale armor sighes as a person finally speaks up for introductions. The halfling smiles and his glittering eyes turn towards the raptorian, mouth opening with the corners turned up in a smile, before the Human opens his eyes and sits up straight, beginning in a gruff, raspy voice, as though his lungs or throat had once born damage. "I'm Riktor, this is Giddy who sometimes isn't as useless as he looks. I don't particularly care who the rest of you are, but you might as well know my name. Personally an escort job is beneath me but I can't find any marks lately, damn cowardly dragons." He says, arms crossed and seeming determined not to say much more. Satisfied with his 'introduction' he closes his eyes again, gives a small scratch to the pink spot on his face, and leans back again.

The halfling, smile turning into a brief from from being interrupted, quickly patters close to Ciel. "Actually, my full name is Gideon Quicksnap. I'm Sir Riktor's herald. He's a very accomplished dragonslayer you know, amazingly strong and-"

"Gid! Shut up and sit back in your chair. And be still, gods damn you. Honestly." Comes a bark from the Slayer, the halfling jumping nearly a foot in the air before giving a small pout and returning to his chair.

A tall, black-skinned, seemingly human man sits on the bench next to the feathered Raptoran. His broad chest and muscled arms indicate that he is some sort of fighter. Around his head one can see faintly glowing rune-like letters, although it is hard to say what they mean. He holds his head high, his eyes staring straight ahead. Upon closer inspection, his eyes are glossed over and he is, in fact, nearly asleep. A strange, black longsword rests at his hip, and a shield leans against his leg on the floor.

He starts a little at Ciel's comment, and sighs before turning to his neighbor and responding in a deep, pleasing baritone voice.

Ciel, is it? You may call me Irisian, or Iris if my full name is too difficult to pronounce. And yes, the ad is what drew me to this place. What I have heard of Solchar certainly makes it sound great. I hope that the bald man returns soon, though. Patience was never my biggest strength.

With that, Irisian leans his head against the wall and closes his eyes, his body visibly relaxing and his breathing becoming slow and deep.

Tabatha

Sitting on the bench opposite of Irisian and Ciel, a woman, with long, bright red hair falling over her eyes (the silver circlet she wears doing nothing to help), stares quietly into the blade of the sword on her lap. Long, feathered wings, draped over her shoulders like a cape fold out from her back, signifying that this human is different then most. She wears a chain shirt, of a shiny black metal, reflecting what light hangs over the room. A simple pair of pants, as well as leather boots, adorn her legs, showing signs of years of hard travel.

Twirling her tangle of hair absently, she continues to stare into her sword, perhaps the most interesting thing about her. The hilt shows an intricate design of flames, spiking outwards. The blade, reflecting more light then seems to be possible, bears a diamond-like shape at the base — widening, then narrowing back into a width about that of a longsword. However, it extends outwards past what you would expect, the entire weapon being only about five feet long — long for a typical sword, but short for a greatsword.

She doesn't move to respond to any of the talk, keeping silent for now.

On the bench opposite the raptoran and Irisian sits a relatively tall human. Although he is young, he has a definite battle-hardened look about him; especially the lack of a left eye, a patch covering the scars. His attire is clean, and good quality, but looks well used, and is certainly not just for looking good in. He is armed and very dangerous, a longsword scabbard decorated with blue lightning hangs at his left side, and a composite longbow is slung on his back. He is sat with his right foot resting on his left knee, and is fiddling with a dagger.

He smiles and laughs quietly as the halfling jumps, and listens to the others polite conversation, and looking around at these strange people before talking himself

" 'm Xander; just in this for cash. Saw the ad an' here I am."

Ciel

"So curiosity, money and..." Ciel gives one last look at the winged woman, hoping for a response. "...private reasons. All good motivations I would say." His senses were beginning to wake up, he'd tried to fix his schedule before the date, but there was only so much one could do.

"Well, I've seen Solchar on my way to Mt. Nevermind, but I never actually stopped there. I haven't done the trip in years though, the roads aren't what they used to be. No, I guess I'm here to travel." He pauses. His hand goes to his chin in thought before shrugging. "And to meet the kind of people who answer to these ads."

Irisian nods at Ciel's comment. He is not thrown by the man's strange appearance, because he himself is what many people consider to be "strange".

I know what you mean. I guess I should have seen this coming... Me as a sword for hire...

Irisian's eyes lower slowly to the ground as he shakes his head, apparently lost in thought. "What my men would say if they saw me now... working as a cheap mercenary in a human city. How could I have let that happen..." he thought to himself. He leaned forward, rubbing his eyes in his palms. He then looked up at the strange, winged woman sitting across from him.

Excuse me for prying, but I do not believe you have introduced yourself? It seems that we should at least know your name if we are to put our lives on the line together. I can assure you that travelling the roads to Solchar these days is no safe journey, and some level of trust would be helpful.

"Ah, traveling, what a very good reason." The halfling pipes up, continuing even after his words start to earn a glare from Riktor.

"I absolutely love to travel myself, have been my entire life. I was fortunate enough to be borne in a proper halfling caravan you know, that's why I can make such a bold boast. But traveling really is the best path in life, pardon the pun. My old Gramps, bless his soul, used to say that each road you walk is a new story waiting to be made. He'd know too, great man he was, traveled clear around the islands. He even once visited the frozen island to the north, ole what's-it's-name, and met some people there. Well, didn't really meet, more like chased off the island by a mob of fishing spear wielding islanders, but it's the principal of the thing you know. Then there was this one time when-"

"Oh bloody hell, look what you've done. Giddy, no one cares about what your dead old gramp did, if he even did it, now shut up and wait patiently or so help me I will stitch your mouth shut and nail your bottom to the bench!"

This comment at last from the dragonslayer seems to put a slight chill down the halfling's spine and he complies. The leader of the group seems entirely uninterested in the introductions of others going around the room.

Tabatha

At the sound of Irisian's speak, the woman's head snaps up, and glances around for amount as if she had just woke up. She brushes the hair out of her eyes, and looks at the man,

"Oh, sorry," she nods, "I'm Tabatha. Tabatha Heartstep.

She takes a moment to actually notice her surroundings, looking at each member.

Quite the group we have here...

She nods approvingly, liking the experience those around her seem to have. Everyone here, except the halfling, perhaps, held that look in their eyes that said they knew exactly what they were doing and no one would get in their way of it. A sign of power.

Standing up, she replaces the sword on her back and comments, "It's feeling a bit stuffy here. I'm going to step outside and grab some fresh air," and with that, moves to open the door, and stand right at the entrance to the church.

"Nothing wrong with being a sword for hire, tis good money when yer get it, I should know. Best thing I did since leaving Carver was going mercenary.

Irisian looks at Xander and nods. He chuckles a bit to himself before answering.

Aye, I meant no disrespect. I was just saying that this is not exactly where I would have expected to be 5 or 6 years ago. I have no problem with the average mercenary, I am just not used to this line of work. I have always been a fighter, so I guess it should have been obvious that I would have landed myself in a situation like this.

Irisian chuckles once more and smiles towards Xander. He sighs with impatience. "How long can they expect us to wait in this cramped little room?" me mutters to himself.

From the other side of the room, a door creaks and a figure walks in. Clad in Red Dragonscale armor, the man closes the door behind him, clears his throat, and flashes a toothy smile to you all. About 5’9” in height, the man is built quite solid. His weather beaten face shows a little sign of worry that fades as he enters the room. His brown, dirty hair falls just below his jaw line, which is covered in stubble. As he pushes his hair behind his ears, you notice that they are slightly pointed. This is the only sign that shows the man to be a Half-Elf.

“Hello all. How’s everyone doing? Miss, if I could get you to come back in, we’re about to get started.” He motions for Tabatha to return to her seat. “I apologize for the little delay, today. We’ve had something…..unexpected, come up and we’ve been working to deal with it.” He throws a glance over his shoulder to the closed door. Returning his gaze to the room, he flashes another smile and continues on.

“My name is Hemil. I’ll be leading this little expedition to Solchar for the church. I’m glad we were able to get a few able bodied men to answer the call.”

Hemil takes a few steps forward to the basin in the center of the room. He dips his fingers into the Holy water and dabs some on his forehead, whispering a silent prayer to himself. Returning his attention to the room, Hemil glances around and sighs.

“Your jobs will be to ensure the safety of this little caravan. As you all know, we're heading to Solchar. Anybody who's been on the roads for the past 2 years will be able to tell you that this isn't the safest trip. The roads aren't what they used to be. But thats why you are here. He smiles again.

Are there any questions before we take the final steps before leaving?”

XAnder speaks up with questions, "Yeah I have some. First off, how big's the caravan? number of people carts etc. Any particular threats which are more common on these trips? And how long will it take to get to Solchar?"

SInce Xander is used to mercenary work, he likes to get an idea of what he's up against, and better specifics of the job before he actually goes and does it. Also what town are we in now? did I miss something on that or are we not meant to know :smallconfused:

edit: oops, Idelhar in the first post on recruitment, I assume thats where we are?

"And most importantly, how much are we looking forward to in payment?" Riktor says, sitting up from his leaning, resting position to look at the Warrior-Priest, giving the pink spot on his face another scratch. "I dare say I'm not going to be wasting my talents on some simple caravan job if the price isn't going to match what I can offer."

2008-01-12, 08:28 PM
Tabatha nods and sits back down when asked. After Hemil finishes talking, she adds her question, as well, "So what's so special about this road anyways? Seems like a lot of fuss."

boxboy582
2008-01-12, 08:29 PM
Hemil cuts his eye roll off halfway. Obviously payment wasn't something he intended to cover, nor was it what he meant by 'questions'. He decides to try and proceed as tactfully as possible.

You will be compensated for your troubles by the church once we reach Solchar. Since it is a 4 day trip to Solchar, if we don't run into too much trouble, you'll be paid 500 gold pieces a day. It shouldn't take more than 4 days time to get there, so don't expect much more than that. That is also assuming you do your jobs and keep the caravan safe.

His attention shifts over to Xander and he gives a little smirk. Well, I gather this isn't your first time. Is it? He chuckles at his own sarcasm. Hemil takes a moment to remember all of Xander's rapid fire questions and then another moment to think of the answers.

As for your questions: Where to start? He nods to Xander and gives a little laugh. Well, the caravan consists of myself, everyone in this room, seven of our priests, and some......special cargo. He takes a moment to choose the last words very carefully. Hemil moves on quickly. All on a single cart, so not the largest and most difficult to protect. Lucky for you all.

As for what we may encounter, Hemil shrugs your guess is just about as good as mine. The roads are never the same, from one day to the next. He smiles to Xander. Would it matter, anyway? Would I scare you off if I said a dragon was in our future? You're all mighty warriors! Nothing should scare you away. Plus, what would want to attack a little church caravan that you couldn't fend off with ease?

He's playing with you. That's easy enough to tell. However, there is something about it. A serious tone underneath the good nature. Not enough, to insult you, but enough to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Hemil smiles and glances around the room.

Any other burning questions I may answer for any of you?

Tabatha

A bit unnerved by the half-elf's tone of voice, Tabatha shakes her head to get any fear out of her mind. "Mighty warriors, sure," she comments, "but we did not get to where we are by not knowing what we're up against," her eyes narrow a bit, "in my experience, that's a good way to get yourself killed," She pauses, "Special cargo?"

Irisian taks in everything being said in silence, his eyes remaining closed for the duration of the questioning period. His face breaks into a smile and Xander's latest comment.

You speak wise words, Xander my friend. I say bring on the beasts. There are enough of us here to give whatever those roads have got to offer a good fight. If I managed to survive out there for months by myself, a strong group like ourselves should be able to make it for 4 days right?

Irisian gives out a deep, booming laugh before winking at Xander and leaning back against the cold wall, his eyes closing again. This time, however, the possibility of combat causes his smile to linger on his face for a few seconds before it is replaced by his normal stoic posture.

Ciel

Rubbing his chin while the others asked most of the questions, Ciel simply listened to the voice of experience in this line of work. Hemil seemed to respond with tongue in cheek, but he looked like he knew what he was doing. "I just have one doubt, which I think I may share with Tabatha. Why the need to be so vague about the cargo? After all, you seem to be trusting us with your lives as is."

"I agree, I'd feel better knowin' what we have to protect so badly. Wther you want to tell us or not, I say we get moving soon"

boxboy582

Hemil nods. But of course. Only great fools would not want to know what they're protecting. I'm glad to see that you are not great fools. Lucky for us. He chuckles again about his own good natured sarcasm. If you're all ready to get going, then, and there are no other questions, I can show you just what you'll be protecting.

Satisfied that the groups questions have been answered. Hemil spins on his heel and opens the door, quickly walking through it.

Through the door is a decent sized courtyard, with few trees scattered in the open area. The courtyard is surrounded on all four sides by the church buildings. An archway is the only possible way out for the tiny cart also located in the courtyard.

Hemil nods you over in the direction of a large circle of priests, their heads bent in furious prayer. Hemil says to you all in a whisper:

Good. It looks like they're almost finished. We had to take some extra precautions, but it will all be worth it in the end. Come on, I'll show you what we're taking. Hemil smile with excitement and leads you all closer to the circle of priests.

You can hear the priests all murmuring, in unison, a tongue that none of you can comprehend.

Once you reach the edge of the circle, you can see a figure held prone to the ground. The figure looks like it is being held in place by invisible bonds. A pair of curved horns follow the beings head and scales cover most of her body and patches of her face. Her feet, it is a woman as far as you can tell, are obviously draconic.

Hemil whispers to you all once again:
The church heard about her. She was wandering the countryside causing terror to all. It actually breathes fire. Can you believe that? Well, the church is taking her along with them to Solchar to be put on trial. My guess is that they're going to try and cure her of her condition. It looks like they're just finishing up the last bit of the restraint system.

The murmuring has grown to a crescendo. The clerics throw their heads back and their hands to the heavens as their chanting comes to an end. The sound still reverberates in the courtyard for a few seconds before disappearing.

Satisfied with their work, the priests begin to leave, going about their own business.

So we're taking her He motions to the figure on the ground and seven others. I believe they're pulling the last of their belongings together as we speak. Several priests carry small packs and are loading them into the cart.

So thats what we're taking. He seems rather proud of himself. He gives a superior glance down to the figure on the ground. Returning his gaze to the group, he asks with a smile So, any other questions before we get started?

"Yeah, when the hell are you going to DROP DEAD!?"

Teiss

The magically bound figure sputters after Hemil finishes; lime-green eyes with reptilian slitted pupils snapping up to look at her captor with an unbound sense of hatred.

Teiss has never been more furious in her life, moreso because she's now bound with something that prevents her from doing anything about it, at least without hurting herself. The woman( a girl, really; she can't be too deep into adulthood) has coppery scales, marking her metallic dragon heritage, yet oddly she still manages to keep a golden mane of curled locks which even now pool over her shoulders. Taloned hands dig into the ground, mostly draconic in every way but for a basic human shape, though all she hurls at Helim are insults.
"And you talk about cures when it's so obvious everyone in this bloody church suffers from pains of idiocy; I was attacked and dragged here just for being alive..."

Once in the courtyard, Xander paces around the creature on the floor. He has a look of curiosity on his face, and shows no emotion towards or against the woman.

2008-01-13, 01:01 PM
Hemil walks over to the sputtering girl, kneeling down next to her and speaking very quietly.

Listen beast. We're all going to have to get along from here on out. Remember, we're the ones that have to protect you. You should show some respect and appreciation for what we're doing for you. Hemil smiles widely, and now speaks to Xander, though his eyes never leave Teiss.

Oh yes, I'm very sure of our bonds. In fact, why don't we release them. It won't be able to hurt us.

One of the priests shakes his head from side to side, but waves his hands in an intricate pattern, and the invisible bonds that held Teiss to the ground, are lifted.

There, I bet that feels a little better.

Hemil stands up, still looking down at Teiss. He chuckles and spins on his heel, striding toward the cart.

Lets all help the priests load up. That way, we can get out of here that much faster.

Irisian's face does not change as he looks down at the beast, but his eyes widen and he takes a step back when it speaks intelligently and in a language he understands. "So it's intelligent..." he thinks to himself. He quickly hides his discomfort, and stands boldly at the front of the group.

Aye, let's load up quickly and efficiently so that we may get on the road quickly. The less we linger, the smaller chance of an... accident.

He heads over to the cart and grabs the biggest item he can find and puts in wherever there is room. He looks over his shoulders to make sure the others are coming to help.

"THAT IS OUR CARGO!" Shouts out Riktor, shaking with fury, his sword already drawn. "Why on earth are you letting the damned thing breath!? It's very life should be snuffed out right this minute, I demand it! There's no way I can travel with such a beast, let alone condone it's very living existence." Moving nose to nose with Hemil, the dragonslayer smiles a rather wicked grin. During all of this, Gideon has grabbed out a couple sleeves of paper from his bag and seems to be struggling to find ink and pen, no doubt not wanting to miss a chance of writing down some new deed of Sir Riktor.

"I'll make you a deal. I save you the cost of having to put on some mockery of a trial, the thing is no doubt guilty beyond reason, and you let me kill it right now. No doubt you can probably save some more money by letting some of these losers go without needing to keep the thing under extra precaution." He bargains to the leader of the caravan.

So just try and keep your ego out of this, a reputation as a dragonslayer could also be seen as a reputation for murderous scum too."

Teiss

Teiss has to restrain herself from spitting in the follower of Cuthbert's face. However her ire is halted only momentarily at the dragon slayer's outburst; by surprise and that she KNOWS she's defenseless now that causes her to be bothered (visibly). How could she even BEGIN to talk back at this? It wasn't even her fault-- Oh what the hell.

"Blow it out your ears," she offers to Riktor, standing up and dusting off the leather kilt and green silk she's wearing.

She's quick on regaining her composure however, and gives Riktor a venomous look back in response to all of this threats and promises. The halfling too, although once she figures out what Gideon is doing....

"Hey, baby," she sneers at him, "Better make sure that the account you're writing down is all about how the Brave and Glorious Sir Blowhard has prepared to vanquish an unarmed and basically defenseless woman who happens to have horns.

"Why you filthy little dragon Wench!" Riktor says in an outburst, shoving Xander aside and beginning a charge at Teiss. However, just before he's about to reach her, one of the seven priests, an older man with white, thinning air and a bit of a ponch to him, walks in between the path of the charge.

"Sir, this lady is under the protection of the church of St. Cuthbert, to be tried as by proper and fair laws. You shall not touch her." He says in a calm, professional manner, sparing a small, possibly friendly, look to the draconic girl.

His charged stopped, Riktor gives an outraged, grasping look at everyone else, as though all the world had suddenly turned mad. "You...You...Bunch of Firebreathers!" he spits out, using the horrible slang term used in reference to the most vehement of Dragon supporters. "I shall not lower myself to be part of such...such utter blasphemy to a creature and race that offers nothing but troubles to all other races. Come along Gideon, I shall have a word to say with the town guard about this." he says, sheathing his sword more violently than necessary and beginning his storming walk away from the temple, the Halfling scurrying, trying to keep up with the angered long-legged pace of his master and trying to stuff the papers back into the bag as well, his head wagging back and forth between the priests, swords for hire and sorceress, and his paying master.

Irisian shakes his head in disappointment as he watches the experienced fighter walk away from the group.

He would have been very helpful, there's no doubt about that. But I suppose it's for the best. After a few more of those outburts, I might have slain him myself. It's a shame that such prejudice is being shown by those with power. That man could do great things for the world, if he wasn't so wrapped up in hatred. I know what that is like. Hatred can consume a man like flame consumes wood. It's a shame he was not strong enough to beat it.

Irisian stops speaking, his eyes staring out into nothingness, dark memories flooding his mind. He snaps out of it, returning to the present, and continues to load the wagon.

Let's drive that man from our minds. We must not carry negative feelings on this journey. It will result in nothing but bitterness and tragedy.

As the group enters the courtyard, Ciel takes the time to spread his wings before returning them to a slightly broader rest folded near his person. It was refreshing to be outside after spending a cramped half hour. When their cargo is revealed, he remains silent, keeping his forming opinion to himself. Mostly though, he looked on curiously, trying to figure out, well, how?

As the decorated dragonslayer leaves, he simply moves aside and lets him pass. Good riddance to bad rubbish... He nods in agreement to Irisian's speech. "If he is really on his way to get the guard though, it might be in our best interest to leave now."

He starts heading for the cart, intent on helping with load up. "Miss,..." He turns to Tiess with a friendly expression "...it looks like we're down two men. If you can really breath fire, there's a good chance you might have to do so on our behalf."

The dragon lady says the last bit with a reluctance that is discarded when she realizes it doesn't matter anymore. Showing only little indignation towards the mercenaries, she continues.

"However, don't get your hopes up for me breathing anything but air, she glares at the older priest thanklessly; despite the defense he gave her she openly has nothing but contempt for this whole affair, "I CAN'T. Not now, anyway unless I feel like becoming sick and infirm."

She doesn't seem however, to be willing to LEAVE or attack anyone so much, adding a layer of mystery to this. "They're willing to allow a racist swine like that wander around but there's only cursed laws against attacking people of your own neat little flock, apparently. It sickens me."

Finally getting around to it, she turns back towards the older priest. "I want the rest of my gear back. Now."

With the infinite patience of one who has long been in transporting unwilling prisoners, guilty or innocent, The Old priest has to shake his head. "I'm quite afraid that we've already extended you more courtesy than is customary. In a regular situation You would be allowed nothing but standard given clothes. It is only the fact that you bear a resemblance to a hunted creature that we allow you to keep and wear your items of defense."

At this statement, one of the other priests, the only one with an age probably matching the one talking, makes a scoffing sound in his throat, before continuing to put provisions on the cart. This sound is completely ignored by the smiling priest.

"As for the rest of you, while I do not disagree with haste, I do not think you have any need to fear from the city guard. There is no law we are breaking."

"However, a lynch mob on the other hand..." Comes a grumble from the same priest that gave the cough.

Irisian flashes a glare at the grumbling priest, obviously annoyed with his attitude towards the captured woman. He talks loudly as he continues packing away the last of the bags.

So the dragons have fallen that far out of favor, eh? My worst fears are confirmed. But I guarantee you, bigoted mobs intent on killing a being without a fair trial will not find me nearly as merciful as the town guards would have. Hemil stood stock still at Riktor's outburst. He had made no move to restrain the large man, in fact, he almost looked afraid. He quickly covered it all when the priest interviened. Desperate to regain whatever status he'd lost, he scoffs at Irisian.

Where have you been? Dragons fallen out of favor. They've never been in favor. I don't know what games you're playing at. They're only worth their blood, eggs, and hide. Thats it.

Hemil continues to load the cart, this time with a little more urgancy than before. He continues to talk, this time to nobody in particular.

I can't say I'm suprised he acted like that. Honestly, I was a little worried when I walked in and found a Dragonslayer. People that deal with their lot usually have a pretty strong opinion about 'em.

The rest of the packing continues on in relative silence, until everything has been safely stored away. At the last minute, a large box (3ft x 2 ft x 2.5 ft) is brought from the monistary doors and put in the back of the cart and a large cloth thrown over it to cover it. Then two priests climb into the cart, taking positions on either side of the container.

Everyone ready to head out? Hemil's familiar smile crawls back onto his face.

Where I am from, dragons were respected as creatures of power and magnificence. It is obvious that you do not feel this way, and I am sorry that this is the case. But yes, I am all ready to leave.

At this, Irisian walks over and stands to the left of the wagon, loosening his sword in its scabbard and swinging the sword around to the side. He stretches his stiff limbs to get loosened up for the long journey ahead, and he nods at Hemil to signal that he is ready.

Hemil says in response to the probably sarcastic observation with his own probably sarcastic reply. However that smile seems to slip a notch at the insistence of the Illumian.

"You must be from very foreign lands. While apparently there are some texts that say some things about dragons, and even those aren't all flattering, facts are facts and facts are that dragons aren't much good at all these days. I'd remember that if you ever do come across a dragon in this part of the world." Hemil says to the warrior with the strange sigils, before trying to regain his good humor again, adjusting his halberd upon it's back strap and making himself generally ready for travel. The two priests that sit upon it are the two older ones who had previously spoken, the kind man and the pessimist. The five other priests, all looking scholarly types, their weapons hitting awkwardly against their hips as they walk with the heavy chink of one not used to wearing chain armor, look expectantly towards Hemil.

"I think that we're ready to go know. Also, to make sure we don't happen to form a mob, if you'd please wear this until we exit from town Miss." He says, handing a large hooded cloak to Teiss.

At Hemil's sign, Ciel spreads his wings while he checks his equipment. With his feathered limbs over his head, a light looking chain shirt, a pair of black knee length pants, a full looking haversack and a three section quiver become clearly visible on his person. He crouches down as he sorts through the quiver, partially pulling out a long length of pole and up to the midsection of a large bow. It was strange, the quiver didn't seem to be large enough to hold the entirety of the bow, but when the raptoran pulls out one of the three arrows of the last section, only to have its place be filled by another, it becomes clear that there's some sort of magic behind it. Satisfied, he puts the arrow back in its place. "Ready when you are, though I'd prefer to watch over the cart then walk."

At the speed of an obstinate mule, the procession begins to travel through town, heading first from the tame, quiet grounds of the religious section of the town, then through the boisterous, nearly chaotic shouting, bargaining and showing off of goods that can be found in the market places of even the smallest hamlets at times. One of the scholar priests nearly gets left behind in the crowd as he accidentally wanders in the wrong direction, his nose stuck in one of the many, thick tombs of Cuthbert's laws, and how Cuthbert's laws have been practiced, and how past trials have been ruled, and how..Well, they're law books.

In any event, after getting only a handful of yards away he's dragged back by the one of two female priests of the caravan as Hamel leads them through the market towards the town's west exit to head towards Solchar. He stands close to Teiss during the whole process of the shouting merchants and buying masses. "Once again, you are not under arrest for being what you are, miss. You are under custody because you were found among several dead bodies of the Order of St. Cuthbert. Once things have been cleared up, you shall be treated with all due justice." He says in his brisk, happy, yet could go either way tone of voice. If Riktor has attempted to stir up a mob he has not been successful...yet.

After heading on the proper street, you continue through the town without any other great notice from others besides some occasional pointing by idle youth, and the guards at the gate who are quick to raise a friendly hand to Hamel's salute. The grey-haired priest on the cart does not seem to care for his position in the normal, cargo cart, it's bumpy ride on the stones of the street causing many unintelligible grumblings from him.

It's a beautiful day for traveling. The sun shines brightly down across the land, accompanied in the blue sky by only a handful of fluffy clouds that promise a good shower of rain to wherever they eventually travel too. The water of the lake sparkles, not betraying it's grim appearance at night, as the many crop lands around the city are attended to by farmers in the distance, the growing grains and vegetables swaying in the occasional burst of wind.

Though Hamel seems rather invigorated and energized by the sunlight, for most of the priests it seems to tire them already and bring out the paleness in some of those who spend too much time in libraries. The road is a well trodden dirt path that heads in a Northwest direction towards the larger city.

"Have patience child. There was an unfortunate lack of evidence to support your story when you were captured is all. Once the church had been satisfied you will be restored all freedom. And, I can give you my pledge to aid you however I can in trying to remove your malady. It is a sore trick to be given an appearance that can inspire such violence against you." He returns his gaze forward and mutters quietly, Unfortunately, the evidence points to your guilt. The church doesn't look kindly on the death of it's clerics.

He turns to the caravan's leader, "Hemil, I have no way of judging whether she's guilty or not, but how big of a service will she owe your church if the ruling resulted against her? If it would most likely result in a permanent exile, then is it even necessary to force her into Solchar?"

She murdered several of our priests. At least, thats what all the evidence says. A crime like this should be brought before a higher church than the one in Idelha. Thats why we're going to Solchar.

Now Hemil does decide to turn around, coming closer to the rest of the group, his voice lowering.

And no, if she is found guilty His voice tells you that there is no other option she will be sentenced to death. . . most likely. The church does not look kindly on the slaughter of it's priests.

Hemil's face and voice quickly brighten.

But that is all to be decided by trial, not by us. And, if the church sees fit, they may cure her of her malady. If they rule that it was the beasty blood in her veins that did this, and that there is some good in her and some remourse; then they may work to cure her of her problem. I suppose that would be the ideal course for everyone.

Hemil turns back around, resuming his almost hopping gate back to the front.

The hours begin to pass by, the mood shifting at first from the tension brought about by the transport of the dragon-girl, with all proper occasional outbursts from appropriate parties, to the resigned fate of no escape and a need to get money for a job, and finally into the utter boredom of traveling. The farmlands are no longer a constant on the landscape, only popping up when a smaller, subsidiary road appears, indicating that a farming hamlet is near. Except for the occasional farmer who is bringing in his harvest to the big city, you do not meet anybody upon the road. The land slowly begins to look like proper wild lands, overgrown grass, small wooded areas from which animals peek out at the travelers, and the ever present oddities of the land over which magic, war, adventure, and monsters have all happened at some point or another, the occasional rubble that once may have been a shrine, now forgotten and eroding away. A scorched circle of earth, been there for as long as anyone remembers yet nothing grows upon it. A pillar of raw uncut crystal jutting diagonally from the earth, sparkling in the sun. However all of these small wonders do little to alleviate the boredom of trodding along, as the road has done well to keep it's distance and from the occasional murmur of the scholar priests, the tales behind them must already be well unraveled.

At length, the sun has risen to it's peak in the sky and the signal has been made to take lunch on the side of the road on the comfortable looking crest of a hill. The Priests take out a couple large blankets to set on the ground and pull out some bread, freshly baked that morning, and fruit preserves that they begin to spread upon slices, handing it around as a small beginning to the meal. The exception are the two sitting in the cart beside the cargo, perhaps afforded their comfort by seniority or old age, who are also in turn served. Below the road continues on, moving to the south of a forest that seems large to the eye however clearly would never make itself onto a map. An odd, sweet smell seems to be present in the air as the wind rolls up from the forest to mingle amongst you.

Upon landing, Tabatha and Ciel are able to see clearly what the three figures are. The closest appears to be a small kobold(3), wearing nothing more than a chain shirt, definitely not made for its race as it dangles around its knees and seems overall too big and baggy, and a large water skin attached to its back like a backpack. In one hand it holds a battleaxe and in the other a shield, however both of its arms hang limp.

The next is a female human(2), who seems rather bundled up in the clothes of an artisan, probably a blacksmith judging by the apron and thick, bulkiness of her clothes. Her hair, half hidden by a bandanna that seems to have been knocked askew, is a fiery red and her skin seems to have an exotic tan to it. Her arms also lie limp, however in one of them is held a very long thing sword with a curved blade to it, that appears only to be sharpened on one side.

The last is a male raptorian, wings fully grown, wearing a chain shirt underneath traveler's clothes and holding a large Ranseur in his hands. His head seems is bent towards his shoulder as he stands still like the others.

All three of them seem to stare vaguely into space while standing stock still. The kobold actually is drooling a little. The only response to Ciel's question is a slight movement of their heads to stare vaguely at him. Each of them seems to be slightly malnourished and have pale looking skin.

This close up the plant is magnificent. Huge yellow and purple flowers sprouting from central vines. The smell is nearly intoxicating, and seems to tempt you to come closer. But, perhaps it's a trick of your eye, or the wind but...it seems to move. Suddenly a burst of pollen fires straight at Ciel, covering him in the pollen of the plant and he starts to feel the control of his body slip away from him in a desire to get closer to it. (Make a Fort save.)

"Gah!" Stumbleing back from the effects of the pollen, Ciel spreads his wings as he tries to shake it off. What he saw was already disturbing enough, but with this last incident the plant had lost all its allure. One of his hands goes to his quiver grasping the length of wood and pulling it out in one swift motion. The spear he now holds in his hands has a simplistic design, but seems to grow more defined as it reaches it's head.

"This things just tried to get into my head! There's also two more bodies in its core, its probably carnivorous!" Odds where these others hadn't been as lucky as him. He dashes forward towards the plant trying to stay of of reach from the kobold. Once in position, he goes for a strong lunge and drives his spear into it.

He'll tumble though M10 and stop at L9, drawing his spear on the way.

Just seconds after spraying the Raptorian in it's pollen, the smell of which by now is becoming sickening instead of beckoning, also containing a smell of decomposition in it, a flower amongst the many vines of the plant moves to aim at where the half-celestial stands, before pollen bursts forward over her as well. ((Fort Save)).

The Priests slow down as they see the guards ahead of them become sprayed by plant, and suddenly those people that had been standing there so stupidly, staring into space, are now looking menacingly at those sprayed by the plant, limbs that hung limp now beginning to flex. The Male priests seems dumbfounded and shocked, while the female one seems to have some sense in her and begins to run back to where the others are taking their lunch, letting out a loud scream of help. Xander hears the cry for help coming from down below.

((Note for entering the grid. Since so many of you aren't actually on scene, it's going to take some time to actually enter into combat. Here's roughly the breakdown

Teiss: Since she's actually just some 30 ft off the map or so, she can use a single move to get any square around the Z12-20 range or so.

Xander: You can either double move and get to the Z12-20 range, or you can run and get some 80 ft movement beyond that. However, that will count as your action for round two. So basically you appear on the map in round two on the init you roll and then can have an action round 3.

Isrian: You basically have to run to get to that Z12-20 range.
Again, counts as your round two action (if you're notified or make the check that is to realize what's happening.), and you get a normal action round 3. ))

At least for the priests.

Tabatha slowly feels the loss of control over her limbs seep through her body but that's okay. Afterall, there's such a pretty flower just a little bit ahead of her. With such a wonderful smell. The best part is those pesky limbs you can't seem to control seem to be willing to take you in that direction, so that you can be closer to the pretty, nice smelling flower.

Hemil reaches across his shoulder, flicking the halberd strapped across his back out of it's holder and into his hand with suprising agility. He shouts across his shoulder as he begins running toward their assailant.

Oh shi-- not an adventure. WE'RE UNDER ATACK. TO ARMS. TO ARMS!!

Hemil runs as quickly as he can, to the priests. He grabs them by the shoulders and turns them toward the cart.

Run. Back to the cart. We'll take care of this. If we can't, you know what to do.

With a nod to the priest that says more than the words he just spoke, Hemil shoves the priest in the direction of the cart.

No. Why would I have your things. I'm not your carrier. They're in the cart, where they belong. If you're no use without them, what use are you? He shouts back to Teiss.

He then squares on these beings that are attacking them and digs his heels into the ground. There would be not retreat.

Hemil's eyes fix on the beings with a glare that would make the bravest warrior faulter in his step. A sneer creeps on to his face and he grips his halberd tightly, awaiting for the thing's next move.

Hemil draws his weapon after sending the shocked priest scurrying off the hill. Both of them now hoof it up there as the rest of the hired party (and it's captive) descend with their weapons drawn.

Slowly, a life seems to animate the people...if they were people. The kobold, with a lurching hop and a cry gargled by drool, moves towards the raptorian and swings twice with it's axe, however Ciel is much more agile than the little lizard and easily avoids both attacks. However in this time the woman has lifted her sword, grasping it with both hands, and charges at him. During the charge her bandana completely flies off, exposing what appears to be one of the flowers from the forest growing out of her skull and nestled nicely in her red hair.

Her sword slices across his shoulder, drawing blood. (8 points of damage)

The other Raptorian spreads his wings wide and begins flapping them strongly, beginning to rise to the air, holding his ranseur in an almost barbaric looking two-handed grasp as he positions himself.

Seeing the pawns of the creature beginning to work, Ciel performs a gymnastic tumble past his attackers to stab into the puppet master with his spear. Though giving a deep wound it's hard to tell if the creature seems pained by it, and more alarming, the wound starts to repair itself.

At that moment the captive girl, the one who appears half-dragon arrives on the scene and demands her magic components from Hemil, but alas he seems not to have them.

Caught within the stupor of the creature's pollen, tabathat begins a quick, giddy walk right into the bush itself, a smile on her face all the while. Just as she enters, small vines with sharp ends wrap around her head and Ciel can see them sinking into her skull. (Tabatha takes 1 point of intelligence damage)

Flight of foot, Xander is the first to arrive with his bow ready in hand, not even out of breath.

The plant however, has recovered slightly from the attack and the leaves almost seem to be bristling in Ciel's directions as 6 vines lash out from the bush at him, three of them scoring solid hits against his body. (38 points of damage if you will.)

Teiss:smallfurious:

Amidst the turmoil and hell of combat, Teiss, of all things, casually walks quickly towards the fracas, getting closer to the flower plant but still more than a good stone's throw away from the giant evil flora. However the entire time a look of pure rage, boiling even, begins to cross her horned features, light wisps of acidic gas escape her lips. Moving up to U7

This entire trip, this entire journey is nothing but frustration, unnecessary emotional baggage and a smug sense of self righteousness that only holymen can provide. But let them see what finished off those neophytes, let them watch what is most feared of her, only let them see it cast on something that's actually a danger to others.

And besides, no matter what the frustration, regardless of the recipient, there is nothing more satisfying than having an immobile target ripe for blasting.

A hoarse cry heralds the breath attack, a snap of arcane energy going off. As she opens her mouth (almost to the point of unhinging her jaw) a line of acid blasts forth, tendrils of the corrosive energy wrapping around a main torrent that just gets bigger and more powerful until it cuts through the space occupied by the main flower, and keeps going as if the plant simply wasn't there...

I will postnow, since Tabatha is being mind controlled. If this is not good or out of order, please ignore this or just move it to its proper place.

Irisian continues to sprint towards his friends, seeing that the battle is not going nearly as well as it should be. His eyes scan the choatic scene, quickly picking out details and calculating who is at the highest risk. He is in his element in battle, and begins to channel the shadowy energy that flows through the veins of every Illumian warrior. His umbral blade gives off a dark aura as Irisian lets out a bestial yell that does not seem to match his somewhat quiet demeanor during the trip. He decides to dispatch the weaker foes, so that the rest of the group may focus on the evil plant.

I will take care of the kobold and the woman. Someone save Tabatha for gods' sake!

Ciel HP 45/91, AC 21

None left, this thing had lost every last bit of its allure. Ciel tries desperately to dodge the vines, but the three painful lashes are quick to tell him he wasn't fast enough. He turns from Tabatha, to the needled vine, to the red haired woman and to the flower on her head before finally going back to Tabatha. He had to do something, but another such barrage from the plant and its guardians would be more then he could take. His last attack had proved less then adequate , but now wasn't the time for "if onlys".

He looks all over the plant's surface, trying to find a weak spot or the source of those sharp vines around the angel's head. Once he catches something, anything, he drives spear blindly into it, forgetting all finesse and just trying to make as deep a wound as possible.

After the lunge, his wings carry him away as he jumps back. He didn't want to leave Tabatha there, but he would be of no use dead. Once out of the woods, he takes to the sky as soon as his talon's touch the ground.

He'll use Emerld Razor and Power attack for everything for the standard action.

Then he'll use Sudden Leap as a swift action to get out of the plant's reach, tumbling to try and avoid any AoOs. He'll move diagonally, from L9 to K10, but the actual distance will depend on the jump check. He would land somewhere between J11 and F14.

He should be able to reach 20ft above K14 from any of those starting points with the 60ft fly speed. He'll stop there.

Making a mad dash towards the mind-controlled celestial, Hemil fails to spot a vine stretching from the centre of the flower mass, stretching out to attack him while he's still twenty feet away. For a moment it looks as though it'll bounce harmlessly off his armor, but a sudden twist delivers a strike to the top of his head instead. (Hemil:10 damage)

The red-head turns around, and gives two more slashes against the Raptoran, both hits scoring a hit, though there doesn't seem to be much skill behind the blows (Ciel:12 damage)

Meanwhile, the kobold examines the new threat of this man in heavy red armor and scuttles over to give an slash with it's battleaxe, hitting a weaker spot in Hemil's leg armor and delivering a small cut (Hemil:2 damage)

The Raptoran meanwhile, has spotted those coming onto the battlefield and swoops down, heading towards the scaled one, ranseur aimed straight and true. In a dive attack it strikes deeply into Teiss with the weapon before landing on the ground. (Teiss:16 damage)

Ciel's all out attack strikes true, and seems to cause great damage at first, the spear's thrusts even severing a flower from it's vine. However, the vine seems to simple move to the flower and it reattaches, damage seeming to heal even though the vines sag afterwards, as though sapped of some strength. Unphased from the wound, she continues forward before unleashing a stream of acid into the heart of the Monstrous plant. An inhuman and barely audible screech is heard from the plant, however definitely heard is a monstrous shriek sounding half like a bird, half like a beast, as well as the deep bellow made by some humanoid tongue.

The plant seems to shudder, and the damage from the acid seems to not be recovering, unlike the wounds caused by Ciel's spear which continue to repair. And looking through a the hole caused by the acid shot seems to be a very large and very angry looking owl's head.

Meanwhile, the controlled Tabatha tries to command Hemil from helping her, however the mighty warrior priest is unaffected by the attempt.

Last of all to arrive on scene is Isrian, slowed down by his heavy armor but finally arriving.

Quick to act, Xander has dashed forward and loosed an arrow into the plant that crackles with electricity as it strike true. However it seems that even electricity does not phase the creature much.

Quivering and dripping sap from the vines severed by the acid attack, the plant lashes out full force against Hemil. Six vines attack the Crusader, all but one scoring a hit and battering against him violently. (Hemil: 57 damage)

Teiss' blast had finally made the thing react and even though he had no way of matching up to it, he had something similar.

He tries to steady his shot, aiming at the plant, away from Tabatha and Hemil. He readies it and pulls back with both hands as he hold the bow with his feet. As he releases, the arrow seems to whistle through the air, leaving a brief red trail as the head ignites.

Seeing someone trying to take away the plant's meal, the Red-haired woman steps forward and delivers two slashes against him (Hemil: 12 damage)

The kobold meanwhile, has seen the arrow fly from Xander's bow and decided to deal with the threat to the Mother plant. Charging forward, dripping drool on the grass, it swipes at him with his axe, however a slight trip causes it's swing to go too short.

The Raptoran meanwhile, unphased by the movement of it's previous target, merely takes a step and delivers three quick jabs towards The newly arrived target of Isrian. However, only the second of the three strikes strikes past the metal of his armor and pierces flesh. (Isrian: 9 damage)

The Beastly shriek that sounds at the same time like a beast and fowl bursts forth again from deep within the plant as a giant form pushes out of the vines and flowers which seem to separate for it. Coming out into the sunlight is a form like a bear, covered in brown fur and feathers with the head of an owl, The left side of it's body suffering from acid burns and large flower with some small vines extended from the top of it's head. Irisian

AC: 29
HP: 111/120

Irisian smiles as both of his swings find their mark. "Now this is what I signed up for" he thinks to himself. His arm slashes the blade downwards, and comes right back up again in one fluid motion. He slashes across the raptoran's body twice, hoping to open up his feathered body so that he may help the rest of his friends against the strange plant.

Had enough? At least give me a challenge. The real question is, why I am I talking to a zombie...

Irisian seems amused to no end by his own antics, the serious demeanor he had worn in the beginning being erased by the heat of combat and being replaced by a happier (yet much less intelligent) persona.

Blood steadily trickles out of Hemil as the woman's sword cuts into him. Clamping down on the curses that were about to fly from his mouth, Hemil staggers backward again. He tries to shift Tabatha around so that he is partly hidden behind her. He'd be no use to either of them dead.

Someone get this damned thing away from me! This woman doesn't know a friend from an enemy. We've got to get her to one of the clerics, so they can undo what this plant did to her.

(Using her body to provide cover....maybe? Grapple=17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1473377/))

Hemil shouts over his shoulder to the priests as he tries to drag the woman with him:

One of you get out here quickly. There are wounded and afflicted here that need tending to!

Stepping back from the pitiable kobold warrior, Xander switches his bow for a longsword, ready to take the lizard on in melee. (You never said which square you're moving to so I'm just guessing here.)

The creeper seems starting to, very slightly, sag and wilt, however there's still alot of it left that remains completely undamaged. Though the vines quiver and seem ready to strike, instead, a flower aims at the grappling pair and shoots another musky smelling burst of pollen, this time covering the crusader.

Hemil can feel the compulsion of the sweet smelling pollen entering his system, trying to tempt him into coming closer, even after all of his wounds received from it. However, pulling together all of his strength he takes control of his body and fights off the compulsion. Then he moves Tabatha to act as a human shield despite her struggles, and shouts out a call for the healers.

Unfortunately, it seems that the human shield is only enough to deflect one of the woman's next two slashes, The other is deflected by tabatha's armor. (Hemil: 9 damage)

The kobold, completely undeterred by Xander's drawing of a weapon, hops forward and delivers a slash with it's battleaxe before hitting the air with it's follow-up. (Xander: 7 damage)

Shaking slightly from the strong blows from the Illumian, The Raptoran steps back and delivers another three strikes, however the first two are deflected by his shield, the third glances off his breastplate.

The owlbear, further enraged by the second blast of acid, Steps forward and delivers two slashes with it's razor sharp claws before trying to snap at her with it's beak. However her scales seem harder to penetrate than the flesh it's used to and all fail to wound her.

Meanwhile, the Goliath tries again to jump up and reach the flying foe with his axe, however he doesn't even come close this time, probably due to not having the running start of it's previous attempt.

Ciel HP 33/91, AC 21, G12, 20ft up

“That was close, just a bit more and you might get a scratch on me…” ignoring the goliath and turning to more important matters, Ciel focuses on the plant. A cold chill runs down his back when he sees Hemil also get hit by the pollen, but it looked like he’d fought it off. Everyone seemed to have their hand’s full, but that bush seemed to be the root of it all.

As his wings work tirelessly to keep him steady, he draws an arrow with red fletching and a large elaborate head. He holds the bow with his talons and pulls back the arrow with both hands. When released, the arrow seems to whistle through the air as its head ignites in flames. No sooner had he released the first arrow when a second one made its way into the bow, following its predecessor. One last arrow follows the duo and Ciel watches as the three fiery missiles fly through the air, hoping to hit his target.

He’ll fly in place and rapidshot three Dragonbreath Arrows into the plant. I’m not sure if it would take an action to steady once self in the air, the Hover feat lets you do it with a move action, but Ciel aldo has good maneuverability which grants it with no minimum forward speed. The arrows shoot from Ciel's bow and burst into flames midair. However one of them seems to burn a bit too much, burning to ash before it reaches it's target, while the fletching of another catches a spark and sends it into the grass. However one shoots unerringly into the plant, scorching it though vines quickly pat out the flame. Just like the acid, the scorched vines do not seem to heal.

Meanwhile, Teiss gives another blast of her acidic breath towards the Owlbear and Yellow and purple flowers. The Owlbear gives a cry of pain as more fur and more skin is burned away. In fact, on it's left side it looks merely bloody meat as nearly all the skin has been eaten off. The plant itself can't seem to move fast enough away from this last blast and gives another mouthless scream.

Tabatha continues to struggle against Hemil, yet he still continues to keep her away from the carnivorous plant.

Isrian seems content slicing and dicing the Raptoran. So content, that he doesn't even seem to care that his first attack is a huge miss. His second attack however, nicely drives through the Raptoran's arm before pulling out. However, unlike the others, this thrall of the plant seems to not show pain, even as it pales further from blood loss.

There's a cry from the East. Two of the priests, running down the hill and each holding a mace in their hands come running towards the fight. Each seems to be surrounded by some slightly glowing sphere.

Smiling cockily Xander runs circles around the kobold before delivering a solid slash with his longsword against it's scaly hide, the blade flashing with electricity before he moves further to the main threat. However he comes a bit too close as a vine shoots out and narrowly misses his head.

The priests, though looking fearfully at the Owlbear and Goliath, swallow their fear and start to wade into the melee, one approaching Teiss and, almost reluctantly, reaches out a hand filled with divine healing energies that begins to repair some of her wounds.
[roll0]

The other heads towards Hemil, though slowly, holding his mace as though he means to hit anything the jumps at him.

Furiously, more vines lash out at Hemil, though only two hit him and one hits Tabatha. However they hit hard against him, taking away the last vestige of Strength he had left and his hold on Tabatha fails. (Hemil: 19 damage)

The one that strikes Tabatha hits hardest of all, causing a jolt to her body, and suddenly has a splitting headache, as her mind feels groggy and not as sharp as it used to be.

Seeing one threat to the motherplant dealt with, but another approaching, the woman with the strange, one sided blade steps towards Xander with her familiar two cut strategy, however neither attack is good enough to catch the agile commando.

Shaking slightly from the shock, the kobold makes a gargled scream before turning around and charging Xander as well, hitting him from behind with it's axe. (Xander: 4 damage)

The Raptoran strikes three more times for Isrian, however the first and the last glance of armor, the middle stab though, gives a deep flesh wound (Isrian: 9 damage)

The Goliath tries to reach Ciel once again, but this attempt is worse than the last. With a shout of rage the Goliath turns wildly looking for something it can reach, before charging towards Xander.

The Owlbear continues it's attack on the one who is causing all the pain and damage to it, mindless of the blood it's shedding. It's beak bites deeply into her scaled shoulder (Teiss: 11 damage)

Ciel fires three more flaming arrows into the plant from his aloft sniping position, all three striking inside it and burning flowers even as vines move to quickly beat out the flames.

Teiss shoots some fire of her own at the owlbear, stepping back first before a ray of fire shoots from the palm of her hand onto the face of the beast, burning off fur, feather, skin, even most of the plant sprouting from the head. With gasping breaths, dripping blood, the thing seems to slowly want to back away from this pain causing dragon breed.

Regaining control of her senses, Tabatha quickly moves to heal her rescueer before igniting herself in flame and looking at the creature that had been munching on her brain.

Meanwhile, Isrian continues his combat with the winged man, in two quick swings cutting the bird-man's jugular before impaling the creature upon the black blade. With a gurgled gasp, the raptoran breathes it's last as the blood drains from it, falling dead off the blade onto the ground.

Round 5
Xander skirts quickly around the woman as the Kobald flails wildly at him with his axe, finding nothing but air, and the Goliath‘s axe sinks into the ground where Xander‘s foot was just a moment ago. Xander’s swing soundly hits home, leaving a large gash in the woman’s leg, though the woman shows no indication of the blow on her face.

The cleric standing next to Teiss draws his mace and, trying to put on a brave face, takes a few steps toward the enormous Owlbear and swings with every ounce of strength he possesses, cracking the light mace into the Owlbear’s side. (6 damage) The other priest reaches Hemil and begins to murmur, his hand grasping Hemil’s shoulder. The plant’s vine smashes dangerously into the ground to the cleric’s side, but the cleric remains unscathed. (Hemil CMW: 18hp)

The plant lashes out with it’s vines, flailing at anything within it’s reach. In the confusion, the cleric and Tabatha are both struck by a vine. (Tabatha 10 damage. Cleric 9 damage)

Hemil strides toward the woman, moving around Xander, and thrusts with the point of his halberd, driving it into her stomach and revitalizing energy flows through Hemil’s veins. St. Cuthbert has blessed him this day.

The woman staggers for a moment and then falls to her knee. She stars blankly for a moment then slumps over onto her side. She struggles as if she were trying to get up, but it is clear that all of her strength has left her body. She lays helpless on the ground.

The Kobald todders over to Xander, trying to make up for his missed opportunity. The Kobald heaves the axe, hitting home on Xander’s thigh on his first swing. The second swing comes nowhere near Xander. (Xander 5 damage)

The Owlbear looks down upon the relatively small cleric that just hit him in the side, and rears back swiping the cleric with both of his claws. (14 damage)

The Goliath shambles over to stand next to the woman Hemil and Xander are fighting and heaves his axe in a wide arc aimed directly for Hemil’s head. But, Hemil is ready for the swing and manages to deflect the blow with a swipe of his Halberd.

Ciel fires three arrows in rapid succession at the plant and swoops lower, taunting the Goliath. Unfortunately, Ceil’s split attention has caused his aim to go wide. His first arrow strikes home, but the other two fly by the plant, thudding into the ground behind it. The plant’s vines quickly smother the fire that threatened to erupt from Ciel’s arrow.

Teiss steps away from the Owlbear and unleashes yet another breath weapon, this one aimed directly at the plant. Flames burn away at the plant, leaving ash and blackened leaves everywhere.

Fire leaps from Tabatha’s hands adding to the flames from Teiss’s breath. Sounds of crackling can be heard coming from the plant as the plant desperately tries to beat out the flames.

Coming to the aid of the now badly wounded Priest, Irisian charges the Owlbear, driving his sword deep into the side of the beast. It howls out in pain as Irisian pulls it out in one powerful move, opening up the stomach of the beast. It wobbles for a moment, then collapses to the ground.
