View Full Version : I want to homebrew something

I was thinking about something to homebrew yesterday and I canīt for the life of me remember what it was. I also want to homebrew a race and an undead template, but since I canīt get on the SRD right now (wont load, any one else having this?) and those things are on my back burner and unfinished in my head right now Iīll leave them for later.
I still want to homebrew something, perhaps win colaboration with someone.
So, fellow Playgounders, inspire me!

A summoning/pet class. Kind of like an Astral Construct specialized psion, but magic and more customizable in what they can create (as in, not limited to just constructs and those few abilities).

And then, to go with it, a class that transforms into things using the same customization options the other class uses for its summons. Also, this class has an equally customizable animal companion-esque follower.

Remember, this isn't just an Astral Construct class. This is a class that can choose from a wide spectrum of abilities to create truly unique monsters to summon/become.

Hope that helps get ya thinkin' about stuff.

A class that forms empathic links with mundane items(i.e frying pan, rake) and the class levels the item as a samurai would his blade from Oriental adventures, sorta like a super hobo class

Here comes inspiration, aka random ideas:

A race with 3 individuals required to reproduce. See how weird it can get.
A mouthless plant race with photosynthesis and spores.
A sentient construct race with wheels.
An undead construct (somehow).

.

When summoning, he must throw a specially crafted sphere to the ground and declare who he has chosen.

A class based around Phantasmal Killer. Somehow.

That's pretty much where I was going(Thanks, I had already seen the beauty of this thread.), but we need a class or prestige class to go with it!

Make some absurd lycanthropes. Were-cactus, were-lamp, and were-log are all fair game, and I'm sure you can think of more.

How about race that's not affected by gravity?

Or maybe a duct tape golem?

As far as absurd creations go, the sky is the limit.

A class with roots in extreme sports(i.e the skateboarder class etc...)

Or how about a boat that transforms into a construct, you can call it a transforme....o.......wait

This thread seems to be an absurd idea thread now, oh well, thatīs cool too.

Iīm trying to think of something interesting to do with a shape changing class.
Iīm thinking very minimal shapechanging, more like total control over oneīs body rather than actually turning into different things. With abilities to slow metabolism or metabolize poisons harmlessly, temporarily increas physical stats, or even grow wings or claws for a short time.

I like the Phantasmal Killer idea, Iīll think on it.

Iīll also check out that other thread with the coloured guys and see if I can come up with something (maybe with the maker of the coloured guys).

Metal Head, were-lamp reminds me of the (Family Guy?) Stephen King spoof where he pitched an idea for a book with a... a... *looks around room, sees lamp* LAMP MONSTER!

Haha, Mac has DvR, you couldnīt make a class to simulate his abilities.

A muse, perhaps?

Outsider, can inspire to give all craft/profession checks a bonus or (more to my liking) some amazing and special result. Can only be summoned by bards.

I liked the sound of that 'bring artwork to life' idea. I may make that.

The only problem is it may require DM fiat on abilities, and limit HD by class level.

A cookie if your shapechanger can change types and grant himself abilities and alterations from a massive list and not be locked into the normal Wild Shape stuff where only giant animals are very useful until very late levels.

Two if he shapeshifts at will, without the usual X/day mechanic.

This (http://amaret.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=classes&action=display&thread=1174797825) is something that might work. Do I get a cookie?

Almost. I daresay that class is more than a tad overpowered. You can shift into monsters with up to twice your level in HD? Wow. More than just a little too strong.

No, not something that transforms into already published monsters. Rather, a shifter that more or less builds himself into different monsters by choosing type, subtypes, and abilities so as to transform into truly unique beasts.

Homebrew a new ability. Figure out new skills for this new ability. Modify it so that it can easily slip into the game.

I am still in the process of creating the last of the four 'incantation' classes, designed to replace the current caster classes so as to avoid overpowering the system. The Wylder replaces the druid. Instead of Wild Shape, he can choose to take Aspects as Incantations. Each Aspect grants some ability or boost. For example, the Least Invocation aspects do things like grant +4 to a given stat, or grant an ability like Rage. Higher level Aspects grant a bite attack, increased reach, a four-footed form (increased speed at the cost of lack of opposable thumbs), or even Evasion. However, he only gets twelve Invocations total, and also has the choice to use Invocations to increase the abilities of his Animal Companion(s), and some nature/elemental effects (Control Weather, Firestorm, and the like).

Perhaps this might give inspiration to your not-quite-shapeshifting class?

Hmm, Iīm liking the idea of doing something with Warlock style Invocations (ie, spell-like abilities usable at will).
Perhaps something elemental based (being able to choose one of several "paths" based on what element they want to work with), then again elements are kind of over done in just about every form of fiction.

Hmm, I think Iīve gotten an idea...
I think Iīll do a class based around scaring their enemies into submission. Or perhaps Sauron-style mind rape. Iīm going to take a look at insanity rules. Perhaps this class will use them.

Wadledo, interesting setting idea, is it a reference to something or a genuinely new idea?

Shneekey, I like.

I also like the random spell mage, Iīll see if I can think of something.

Still thinking on how to make a Phantasmal Killer specialist cool and unique.

EDIT:http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70451
vastly unfinished for now, but...
