Akavishim are among the monstrous inhabitants of Xen’drik, ancient living constructs mostly found guarding ancient ruins. Few have seen them, as they can only be found within the deepest levels of ruins found in the heart of Xen’drik. Most Akavishim lie dormant, but all it takes to wake it is for a creature to step into the range of its blindsense, at which point it will immediately spring to life, attacking all intruders it finds. Even for living constructs, Akavishim are bizarre in form. Their body is particularly spider-like, with a number of spindly legs and a gaping pair of mandibles around a mouth lined with feeding tentacles. However, they also have a pair of large wings, and their carapace is often thought to be shaped more like a dragon’s body than a true spider’s exoskeleton, with sharp angles that speak of decidedly inorganic construction. Beneath the metallic carapace is an actual organic being, albeit one commonly believed to be fused to whatever artifact serves as the power source or central core of the Akavish.

Akavishim, commonly found in giant ruins, are believed to be creations of the lost giant civilizations, though others suggest they were actually invaders that killed the inhabitants of the ruins and set up a lair within them, or even creations of House Cannith to guard valuable finds. Proponents of the latter theory often call them “Warforged Sentries” or “Warforged Spiders,” though most use their original Drow name. Though apparently intelligent, and perhaps even sentient, they have never been known to speak or attempt to communicate.

Breath Weapon (Ex)
An Akavish has a breath weapon, a 40 ft. cone of a viscuous, organic web-like substance. Any creature in the area of the breath weapon must make a DC 18 Reflex save or be caught in the webbing. If the save is successful, the creature is still entangled by the web, though it can still move. If the creature fails its save, it is entangled and cannot move, but can escape with a DC 20 Strength check or a DC 25 Escape Artist check as a full-round action. Creatures within the web can move by making a Strength or Escape Artist check as a full-round action. The creature moves 5 feet for each full 5 points by which the check result exceeds 10. If you have at least 5 feet of web between you and an opponent, it provides cover. If you have at least 20 feet of web between you, it provides total cover. An Akavish's web is not flammable. The web lasts for 5 rounds, after which it disintegrates. The save is Constitution-based. Once an Akavish has used its breath weapon, it must wait 1d6 rounds before it can use it again.

Feeding Tentacles (Ex)
An Akavish’s maw is filled with thin tentacles tipped with a razor-toothed, circular mouth, which it uses to feed. When it grapples a creature, these tentacles emerge to consume the vitality of it. Whenever an Akavish successfully makes a grapple check to damage an opponent, it also uses its feeding tentacles, dealing 1d4 Constitution damage to the creature unless it makes a DC 18 Fortitude save. For each point of Constitution damage dealt, the Akavish gains 5 temporary hp, which last for 1 hour.

Fortification (Ex)
Whenever an Akavish would be dealt extra damage from a sneak attack, critical hit, or a similar source of precision-based damage, there is a 25% chance that the extra damage is negated.
