Alright, maybe I won't make really stupid mistakes this time.
Purchase: Potion of prot vs. evil and prot. vs. chaos.

Forgot initiative. Also forgot about Martial script purchase.

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 01:59 PM
I'm still thinking on how to beat your monster this time. But I'll go ahead and roll initiative. I'm leaning towards buying a scroll of owl's wisdom.

Stupid forum timer and me forgetting about it...

Lemme know when your done buying stuff. Honestly, I'm stumped about how to get around your Mad Foam Rager and super duper movement. But I'll give it the good 'ol college try. Oh yeah, I know I am going to buy a masterwork tool for concentration in addition to anything else I buy. I can't access my sheet right now, so I can't really update it.

Bronz
2008-02-11, 02:10 PM
I believe I am done buying stuff. And you gotta love how some sort of tool can help you concentrate. I imagine bringing along a mini-waterfall, to soothe yourself into meditation heh.

Feel free to make a post with your equipment. I'm not worried about you trying to cheat me because your sheet isn't updated. As long as you know your stats everything is good (or I can tell them to you)

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 02:13 PM
What Martial Script did you purchase? Punsishing Stance again?

Bronz
2008-02-11, 02:16 PM
Indeed it was. Though I really should look at my options there heh.

No matter, punishing stance it is and that's that.

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 02:38 PM
OK, While I can search for another 4 hours or so to try and find some cheeseball tactic, I think I may just have to suck it up and try to win this one honestly. So in total, I'm buying a scroll of Owl's Wisdom, a potion of Beastland Feriocity, a masterwork concentration tool (Badass Chuck Norris headband thank you very much), and a scroll of faith healing. Oh yeah, and a kitchen sink too.

Kaldar starts in Z13 with a tower shield (loosed, not ready) and a scroll in one hand nothing in the other. He casts a spell

Casing Owl's Wisdom off the scroll
[roll0] vs DC 4

He then drops the scroll on the ground and moves to Z11

Kaldar moves to S14 while readying his shield. He then casts a 10ft burst spell at the intersection of M/N 11/12.

Will Save DC16 or:

Question:
Does the effect fit the following;

Second, the barrier blocks any attempt to possess the warded creature (by a magic jar attack, for example) or to exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment (charm) effects and enchantment (compulsion) effects that grant the caster ongoing control over the subject, such as dominate person). The protection does not prevent such effects from targeting the protected creature, but it suppresses the effect for the duration of the protection from evil effect. If the protection from evil effect ends before the effect granting mental control does, the would-be controller would then be able to mentally command the controlled creature. Likewise, the barrier keeps out a possessing life force but does not expel one if it is in place before the spell is cast. This second effect works regardless of alignment.

I'll decide what to do after I get the answer to the above.

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 03:58 PM
Well, I'm not sure if you would konw that without a spellcraft check but here's the answer if you can discern it somehow.

The spell is an enchantment compulsion effect.

Bronz
2008-02-11, 04:03 PM
If that is the case, BlueMoon seems to totally ignore the effect like it wasn't even there.

Feel free to check this spoiler if you need an explanation. Or ask a ref to check. Up to you.

The text quoted is directly out of the SRD for protection from evil. It grants immunity to mind control and possession effects regardless of alignment. BlueMoon drank this potion last round, as he should have last match.

Will post actions momentarily.

Edit: Yay for brackets!

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 04:14 PM
The spell only delays the effect till the potion runs out. My spell (cast at lvl 2) should outlats a prot. from evil potion. Still need to make a will save. Not sure if you make that save now or later though.

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 04:40 PM
Well it would, except your attack triggerd my ready action. The spell I cast was incite, which is cast as a swift action, allowing me to be able to ready an action. Since we decided last match that ready actions were not observable events, I put it in my status spoiler.

My ready action, triggered when you attack, is to use my tower shield for full cover. Your halbered smacks mightily into my shield and I am first to act at the top of round 3.

Round 3

Kaldar will cast a spell defensivly.

Bravo in using the typical forum way of doing things to your advantage. If I would have known a) the spell was incite or b) the typical format was used the action would have obviously been very different.

Very nice.

Edit: So close. Now you have a free round.
Edit2: Saved by Owl's Wisdom. Turns out to be a good investment heh.

Bigmac
2008-02-11, 05:12 PM
Well, seing as how spells are pretty integral to being a cleric, I figured that I should use them.

Kaldar moves to X8 as a move action. He draws a potion as a free action while moving. He drinks the potion at X8 as a standard action, drops the potion as a free action, and then moves to X16 as a swift action. He draws his morningstar as a free aciton as he moves.

Double move to X15.

Now that you have had me get rid of all my melee advantages it comes down to rolls it seems eh?

I hope I don't lose in melee to a cleric again. It has happened before! (in my other loss)

Stats later.

What path did you take to get there?

Bronz
2008-02-11, 11:46 PM
Well yeah, now that I'm counting it out again all I get to is C24 (70'). I'm not sure if I counted a wrong starting square or not.

In any case: O20>K20>F24>C24

Sorry for the miscount (glad you caught it really)

Edit: Garbage out.

Bigmac
2008-02-12, 12:44 AM
When you move through F24, my ready action triggers, and you could respond anyway. I just wanted to know when it triggered, thus why the path was important.

Kaldar will move to D13.

You can finish your actions now.

Ready Action
Ready a 5ft step and an attack that triggers if BlueMoon Attacks me.

Bronz
2008-02-12, 09:05 AM
That might be true, but he can dance/shield up to his heart's content. I need to find a way around that shield or you moving on attack before I start just swinging away and hitting air (or shield)

I've always hated that a readied action goes off just before an action that triggers it but you can't change that action at all in reaction.

Post in a bit.

Bigmac
2008-02-12, 09:20 AM
Tell me about it. Try fighting Blaize, who can abrupt jaunt away as an imedeate action before your attack can connect. Doesn't even have to ready anything. Although I did figure a way around that, but I'm not telling.

Bronz
2008-02-12, 09:39 AM
Immediate actions are easy to overcome. Well, as long as you have 300gp to spend anyway. Or multiple ranged attacks.

Ah well. I'll gamble.

BlueMoon - round 7
I attack...with my armor!

Swift action to shift stances to hunter's sense (punishing stance still available for duration of encounter)

Bigmac
2008-02-12, 09:45 AM
Your gamble didn't pay off it seems. Your attack triggers my ready action to attack you.

[roll0]
[roll1]

I then 5ft step out of the way of your armor attack to D12. You can now finish your actions for this turn.

Bronz
2008-02-12, 09:53 AM
I take a 5' step back to D15.

And I honestly don't see how this mechanic works. It turns every duel into "who attacks first loses". And I mean EVERY duel. Unless I had a freaking spiked chain or reach with a weapon without a deadspot.

In any case, I take 5 points of damage. Your turn.

Bigmac
2008-02-12, 10:05 AM
Honestly, this is what I've been waiting for. I could try to play it smart and wait till you're fatuiged, but what the hell.

Kaldar drops his morningstar as a free action (thanks to Mavian for ensuring I rememberd to do this), casts Rhino's Rush as a swift action, and then charges.

[roll0]
[roll1]

Please let me be a hero.

Bronz
2008-02-12, 10:17 AM
And a hero you are. I would much rather get beat by a dice roll than anything else honestly. And you are one lucky sob that I decided to take punishing stance off and the end of just last round so that my AC was a bit better. If anything because of that this really can work.

In any case I need 25 points of dmg done. Let's see what happens!

AoO from charge:
[roll0]
[roll1]

-Mad Foam Rager (immediate action)

My turn: No swift actions left so I need to hope both hits hit and deal enough damage.

Backup 5'.
[roll2]
[roll3]

Bronz
2008-02-12, 10:18 AM
And that's game. At least in the end you got me by a die roll and not some forum or cheesy tactic. Kudos.

In 3 months we'll meet again in the level 3 tourney.

And I was just about to make you choose to see me invis or ready an action *sigh* all well.

Congrats.

Bigmac
2008-02-12, 10:22 AM
Whew. I noticed that you didn't have your punishing stance active when you attacked, so I figured it was about the same as waiting for the fatigue to set in. All that running around really wasn't about delaying untill the rage left, but rather to try and get a clean shot at you. You kept the pressure up on me so that this was the first chance I got.

I knew I had to get lucky to beat you, and to win I had to beat you twice. That's why I found that moment of perfect mind thing and decided to use it first.

As far as how to get around the ready action thing, yeah, invisibility works well. As does incite. Well, most of the time anyway.

Bronz
2008-02-12, 10:27 AM
I figured you were playing it smart and were trying to survive the clock, so I had to force something. I didn't quite realize you would charge right into my waiting guirasame but hey, it works heh.

Again good match. You essentially made me lose this match 4 times over, which is a damn hard thing to do.
