Ah... The day of green. When is that thing anyway? There was one Saturday, but I think there's also another one tomorrow (Monday.) Heh. Anyone have any unique St. Patrick's Day plans or stories? No, getting drunk is not a plan or story. I did my usual holiday celebration:

Beannachtam na Feile Padraig!

Today's the official St. Patrick's day (well that's what my Irish teacher Irish who is Irish and comes from Ireland told me).

My plan: go to Irish class, woo all the lasses, then get drunk on Guinness. But apparently the last part is not a plan :smallconfused:

I'm horrible.
I'mma wear my green shirt with Mario that says everyone loves an Italian man.
Sadly, it was the only green I packed for this entire week...

I'll be partaking in the age-old Irish tradition of getting blind drunk and then stumbling home from the pub at 2 in the morning.

Ah Paddy's Day, how I love thee.

When is it? Hell if I know. St. Patrick's Day is one of the holidays that I ignore... since I'm too underage to get completely sloshed. :smalltongue:

I like the head design, btw.

Go me, I wore green today without realizing it was Patties Day until this afternoon, when I was walking around downtown and I saw this guy dressed in a green shirt, white jeans with little clovers on the back, a bright green beard and a giant top hat declaring "Kiss Me, I'm 80% Irish!" The spirit lives on.

WOo! Saint Patrick's Day! *draws four leaf clovers on arms*

The only bad thing is that I planned on wearing all green, but then I forgot about it overnight, and in the morning, I realized it right as I left my house, but I was already running a little late, so I had to go on and get pinched all day long...

I'm wearing my "Made in Ireland" shirt and rocking out to Flogging Molly's latest album, Float. Oh yeah. It's good.
Edit: Oh, yes. I changed my avatar to something a little more Irish.

I'm not doing anything special this year, but last year was a blast.

I presented a paper at an conference in Joliet, Illinois (outside Chicago), last year on St. Patrick's Day, and then spent most of the evening and night in an Irish pub in downtown Joliet listening to live music and eating corned beef and cabbage and some fish and chips.

It was great, despite the fact that we left the pub at about 2:30am, went back to the hotel, left the hotel at 4:30am, drove back to O'Hare just in time to miss our flight back to NC, and then spent the next 14 or so hours in O'Hare waiting for another flight.

It's a tradition to pinch people that aren't wearing green on St. Patrick's Day???:smalleek: :smallconfused: And why didn't I know this???

edit: This is cool. They dye the Chicago River green (http://www.greenchicagoriver.com/) for St. Patty's.

You know that pinching tradition? In my town it's punching, or hitting with a blunt object. I'm not kidding. My friend nearly got his arm broken last year when he forgot to wear his super impressive green top hat. After all the pain and screaming, we go and have green jello shots.

I've never heard of anything other than pinching for people not wearing green on St. Patrick's Day. In fact, I remember way back in elementary school they used to give every kid that wasn't wearing green a paper shamrock to safety-pin to his clothes so no one could pinch him.

Oh, and this reminds me of this comic (http://nedroidcomics.livejournal.com/134035.html) posted earlier today from one of my other favorite webcomics. I think the author stole the joke from my head*, but it's still funny.

*This morning, walking to class, I saw a guy without any green on and thought, "I need to punch him. No, wait - it's pinch. Oh well." :smalltongue:

I don't celebrate St. Patrick's day, I'm not one bit Irish, and have the genealogical records to prove it. So, when people try to pinch me, I retaliate, hard.:smallamused:

Wow, where I live (in Ireland) there's no sort of punishment whatsoever for not wearing green. Weird.
