Well, the first thread maxed out, so here we are with volume II. ...Not much else to say, so on we go with the comic:

http://zara.switzerlan.org/images/antiheroes/titlebanner2.png (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/)

What happens when the monsters you're supposed to be fighting band together and start hunting you down looking for vengeance? Well, I don't know, but a young Rogue named Lana is about to find out from a perspective she never thought she'd see in her life... or death.

Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

A website? Blasphemy!!

Actually, it's true. Turns out this comic was getting a little too big for it's own shoes here, so I decided to move it off-site. If you're looking for it, click the banner image up top, or just click here (http://www.antiheroescomic.com/). I'll leave the other little forum bits in this thread here, like the signature banners and the smilies, but everything else has been carried over. So head over that way if you want to see more!

One thing I've been wondering: why is Aldran worried? About anything? When you're an epic-level Wizard/Cleric who can cast 9th level spells from both lists, I'm pretty sure you only have to worry about people with god-like power.

...oh right, on a quest to stop an evil god. Never mind.

Lyinginbedmon
2008-03-23, 01:45 PM
If he's anything like Igon's future incarnation (Lying), then he's got little to worry about personally but has much invested in the present state of affairs, whose disruption could result from his own discovery.

For example, if someone were to learn that Aldran were alive, they might seek him out personally. In which event, they may encounter certain organisations or information connected with him, through which they could then alter the state of affairs. His quest to battle this evil god may be an example of his investment, the god gets out and all heck breaks loose inevitably.

In other words, Aldran may very well be closer to Neutral aligned than Evil, which would also manifest in his arcane-divine spellcasting, not unlike Igon.

But punctuation is the staple of civilized internet society! It is what separates humans, and computer programs (for those of you out there who are, in fact, computer programs designed specifically monitor the actions of GITPers), from animals, and computer viruses. Without punctuation, our civilized facade means nothing! Without it, we are as grass before the whirring, divine blade of the lawn mower.

To err is human. To have others constantly point out these errors is problematic to one's argument. I've always hated that rule, anyway.

For the record, Aldran should be saying "You and I" in that third to last panel. Unless he's purposely making it harder to say. It's more grammatically correct, at least. But then, he is egotistical enough to put himself first. Hmmm...

I still love Anti-Heroes.

I think there's a lot of evidence against him being a Greater Shadow, boomwolf. For one, shadows can't communicate intelligibly, and have a pretty low Intelligence score at a mere 6 for Greaters. As incorporeal creatures, they can pass through objects and that would make clothes shopping pretty darn expensive, not to mention the "physical" details with a relationship with Keriss.

Ultimately, I think there's enough evidence to disprove the theory of Aldran being a Greater Shadow. Much like Finx, Lich is possible given illusion magic, however.

Considering the limits on the size of a lich's phylactery, this is unlikely. That, combined with the fact that the phylactery can't have any additional enchantments on it, completely defeats your theory.

However, if it was part of the ship, that might work!

On another note, what's-his-name-henchman probably has on his person much like Redcloak with Xykon. Don't cha think?

I think he'll be OK. It's just like Redcloak said: liches are pretty well indistinguishable from each other, as well as other undead. (They're just skeletons. Even Roy looks like Xykon when his flesh rotted off.) :smalltongue:

You know what I don't get is why Liches don't just throw their phylacteries in some ocean in a sealed iron box under the sand.

Scryers could find it, but only if they knew what it was... Why not just make it a shoe or something?

TheCountAlucard
2008-03-30, 10:07 AM
Pride, for one.

Another thing, when a lich crafts its phylactery, it is always obviously magical in aura and appearance.

A single shoe that looks and pings magic might come off as more than a bit suspicious.

If I depended on an object for my resurrection after my body was destroyed, I would want to make sure that I knew where it was at all times. If I just throw in the ocean, who knows where it might end up, or in whose hands?

Like a ring, and being found and worn by a paladin trying to destroy you. That would be ironic.

My Dread Necromancer player had an interesting idea...

Put your phylactery, whatever it may be, inside a Grisgol (MMIII). If anyone kills the Grisgol and attempts to find the phylactery amongst the trash that makes its body, they go insane.

Your soul is safe, and your enemy goes crazy. It's a win-win situation!

Two things wrong with that:

One: You need to find a Grisgol.

Two: You would go insane when you put it in.

Better idea: Make it a ring and sneak up to a hobo when he is asleep. Put the ring in the hobo's mouth, and make him swallow.

If you die, you respawn in him, and kill him. You take the ring out, and find another hobo:smallamused:

Actually, it's somewhat worse than that. To construct a Grisgol, the Lich must first be killed and then does not respawn as long as it's phylactery is in use as the animating component of the Grisgol.

TheCountAlucard
2008-03-30, 03:19 PM
Yeah, I just found out. However, that's to construct a Grisgol. But if you just hide it in an already-existing one...

As for the hobo thing, he'd digest your phylactery...

It's a little late for 'Finx is a LICH!' posts, but... Finx is a LICH! Which I specifically find surprising because... well, Liches don't sleep, right? And yet in #63, Keriss managed to put him to sleep to distract him...

Oh dear. I'm being a difficult reader, aren't I? Love the comic, in any case, and just in case it turns out that Finx is a man disguising himself as a lich disguising himself as a man, I lay claim to a lot of smug.

Also, a word of warning for everyone. I have a lab exam tomorrow morning, followed by a film studies lab right after, so the comic may not appear until later in the day. I have another lab exam Thursday morning too, but there shouldn't be any delays on that day's issue. If there are, I'll be sure to mention them.

Also, I hate posting in here without a comic. I feel like I'm leading so many people for disappointment. :smalltongue:
