The night is cold and recent adventures have left you without companions. Here, at the Inn of the Green Wind, you seek further glory and adventure. This night, however, you find neither. Just a bard composing tales.

He pulls out a pipe and lights it, sending ribbons of smoke to the rafters of the inn. Pictures appear within the smoke, weaving an intricate story of a lamp that flames eternal. As you sit enthralled, your head begins to throb and your body goes numb. Tunnel vision sets in and just before unconsciousness claims you, a woman’s voice echoes clearly in your mind, “Now you shall have your vengeance my love.”

Waking, you find yourself sitting in a dark, rank, rat infested cell. Strangely, you cannot remember what landed you in this find predicament. You hear the sharp sounds of metal boots descending a spiral staircase just outside your dungeon cell. The cell door unlocks and bright light streams in, blinding you. A loud voice orders you to step out. “We have work for you.”

Surrounded by twenty or so guards, you are marched to a large courtroom. A large man in black and green sits upon an elegant throne; a woman cloaked in red and black stands at his side. She looks you over, coldly. The large man stands and speaks, “I am lord Bayne and this is Kylira. I care not how you came to be in my cells. But, rather than have you rot in my dungeons, I have a need for your skills. I require the wick from the Ever-Burning Sapphire Lamp of Myul Tohlan. You need only to extinguish its flame and return it to me. If you do this, I shall grant you freedom. I might even reward your efforts if you are quick about it.”

The lady removes two rings from her left hand. With incomprehensible words, the rings grow to eight feet in diameter. The circles begin to spin and wobble on the same axis. A bright flash comes from the center and reveals a large temple. You see a large pile of familiar equipment, on the other side.

Hearing the cell door open Gike opens one eye before grumbling and rolling back over. His short dwarven frame is covered with series of old scars with his dark black hair and beard traced with a few lines of gray.

"Let me sleep lads. This bed is free and comfortable."

After being "persuaded" by several kicks and punches that it is time to let housekeeping get to work, Gike is escorted into the courtroom, scratching his long beard and muttering to himself. After the lord gives his speech Gike shakes his head.

"Well about time! There are easier ways to get me to do a job for ye. Thank ye overpriced whore for the light show."

Turning towards the portal Gike walks towards it and smiles happily when he sees the equipment on the other side of the portal, including one well-worn greataxe.

"I come to you Winona! Daddy will give you some heads to slice open!"

Erisae slowly gets to his feet as the cell door opens, willingly being led by the guards. He knows that it is not yet his time to escape. His body lean and powerful, he is constantly surveying the room with his deep dark eyes. His hands fidget constantly, with no handle of a blade to rest on. After listening to the speech, he replies:
Yes my lord, it will be as you command.
He knows that he can not escape from here, and sees opportunity in the curved and jagged dagger that lies on the other side of the portal atop a shadowy cloak. In those tools of the assassin, he will again find his purpose.

Albie Moore

Albie stands in front of the court a man in his early twenties, though his difficult life over the last few years give him the appearance of someone quite a bit older. Most would overshoot a guess at his age by at least 10 years. He wears a colorful robe that is indifferently clean and has been patched in many places. He is of average to large build (6' and almost 200 lbs.). He has a round face with large blue eyes and a bulbous nose. He has short black hair on his head and a bushy black beard.

Just a few short minutes ago he would have been found in his cell, trying to while away the hours by repeating old stories over and over to himself, while pacing back and forth in the limited confines, desperate to have something to do. When the guards came to get him, he eagerly followed. Even though from his perspective he'd only been there for a little while he was already bored with it.

He turns to Lord Bayne and says, "If you'll tell me all you know about this object, I'll gladly do what I can to help you. Being in that cell is drivin' me nuts, as the pirate said about the steering wheel on his groin." He laughs at his own joke, even if no one else does. "So what is there to know about this Lamp? A description, a location, how we might go about extinguishing something that is everburning, anything might help."

Ela

Ela was about to sing a song when she felt woozy. "Woah, man, I'm totally tripping. Not. Cool. Vengeance? Harsh."

Waking up somewhere she doesn't remember being is not all that uncommon for Ela, but smelly and rats were rare. "The Man, man. I've been caught by the Man. That's so uncool. I don't remember doing anything wrong this time."

Ela contemplates putting up a peaceful protest, but she can't find any chains or other people to lock arms with, so she trudges along down the hall to the rest of the folks involved.

Ela turns to whomever she is standing next (not a guard) and says, "I've been drafted. Can they do that?"

Turning to the guy speaking, "Oh, and if it's an Ever-Burning Flame, how is one supposed to extinguish it? Totally reminds me of a song."

Unaccustomed to being treated in such a manner, Elle is none too impressed with her captors. Thinking it over serves to get her more and more infuriated, and she has worked up such a temper when the guards come and collect her that she spits in the face of the first one throught the door. She then insists that none shall lay their "filthy paws" on her, but complies with their orders and marches to the coutroom as defiantly as possible.

When she comes face to face with this alleged "Lord" Bayne, and his flusey-sidekick Kylira, she lays on them the evil-est of evil eyes, pouring hatred and fury into every glance.

However.

When her glance catches sight of her gear through the portal, her mood softens at the thought of being reunited with it. Although she does her level best to give the impression of disgust at the audacity of these theiving miscreants.

And actually, the opportunity to plunder a temple is rarely presented in such a straight-forward and effortless fashion, and pragmatist that she is, Elle finds this to be to her satisfaction.

She takes a step forward to the portal and asks, "How will we get back? Will this portal remain?"

Viktor

Suddenly awken from the banging of cell doors, Viktor wipes his face and clears the sand in his eyes. A little early for me to get up. Thankfully they gave this back to me. He looks happily at the ring on his left hand as he slowly sits on his cot. Without a thought, his eyes glow with power for a few seconds. Now, let me think of who influenced my dreams. First, I had an epic and bloody escape from this god-forsaken prison. That must have been you. Of course it was me. You know you liked it. The destruction, the death, the absolute power. But then you lost your infuence. I distinctly remember helping a village from a threat for free. You are most welcome of that happy dream. I know it is one of your favorites. While these thoughts and similar happen, the guards approach his cell and see a weathered but strong mage arguing with invisible foes. One calls from the opened door, "We have work for you." This does not distract Viktor from his conversation.

One guard goes in and gives Viktor a good knock and repeats the message. This time it works, maybe a little too well. He looks up quickly with a burning desire to give retribution to that hit. Energy (a mix of shadows and green) forms in his right hand. However, Viktor shakes his head and the power disappears. He quietly stands and lets the guard lead out of his cell. As the guard passes him, a soft "Thank you" comes from Viktor.

After listening to the directions from Lord Bayne and the other prisoners comments, Viktor looks directly at the couple. Forcing his voice to remain slow and controlled, he answers, "I will do whatever you ask. I just want my equipment back. Some of it is old while others is new. Either way they are a part of me and I want to feel whole again." The emotions that Viktor was experiencing were just barely able to escape. There was an obvious amount of anger and joy on seeing his supplies. However, there was also a very subtle hint of sadness and relief. So subtle that only a person looking for them would be able to tell.

Every morning Viktor activates the Devil's Sight invocation. It allows him darkvision of 30 ft in normal and magical darkness. It lasts for 24 hrs.

The first two enter the portal...no one laughs at the joke.

Lord Bayne stares disdainfully at the rest of his prisoners, The portal will remain, if you finish your task. The lamp is a sapphire lamp and I must have the wick. How you extinguish it is your problem. Either go through the portal or go back to the dungeon.

The guards watch the prisoners, ready to bodily shove them through the portal if they refuse.

Without any help from the guards, Viktor walks through the portal. Yes grab your stuff and leave forever, never to return. What are you doing? Trying to get him killed? Stay with the group. Do not be a pansy. Leave them and fend for yourself. SHUT UP BOTH OF YOU! I am staying with them. Not because I think I have a responsibility but because I want knowledge and power.

Once through, Viktor gathers only his supplies. There was a thought of taking more but that was quickly surpressed. Caringly, he returns everything to where he likes them. He dons a chain shirt that seems to be made of shadows if anyone looks at it long. It seems to blend perfectly with his mage robes. He opens up his backpack and quickly pulls out a cloak and ring. He slips the ring on his right hand and puts the cloak on. Pulling a worn morningstar and dagger from the backpack, he attaches them to his belt. Finally, he closes his pack and slings it on underneath the cloak. A slight grin appears on Viktor's face. There. Now I am ready. Ready to kill. Ready to help. I am ready for both of you to LEAVE ME BE!

Looking back through the portal, Viktor calls, "Are you coming? Because I know that I will need help no matter what the dangers are."

"Woah, man. Calm down. Can't go making decisions about walking through random portals in just a few seconds." Ela stares into space for a moment, then shrugs, "Yeah, sure, why not? Should make a good story."

Ela walks distractedly to and then through the portal. She makes it about halfway before she starts singing a somber song with a slight twang to her voice.

Albie seems a little put off at first by the Lord's harsh response, but eventually shrugs his shoulders. Why do I feel like I'm about to make a big mistake? He says the portal will remain if we complete the task. Why do I want to come back anyway? There doesn't seem to be much for me here except a dank little cell and one Lord Bayne who seems a little big for his britches. Oh well, anythings gotta be better than that little cage. He begins moving toward the portal, "Fine, whatever. You don't want to give us the information we'll need to do what you want us to. Cross your fingers and hope we're able to succeed then," he says a little sarcastically, then proceeds through to the other side.

Once there, he begins picking up and putting on his gear, starting with a slightly worn-in looking mithral breastplate. He slips a tabard on over top of it, mostly hiding the breastplate from view. He digs down into the backpack that was laying in the same pile, withdrawing a few items and tucking them into his clothing for easier access before slinging it over his shoulders. Then picks up a few weapons from around his feet, a shortbow, a morningstar, a pair of daggers, and a spear. Last he reaches over his shoulder, "Can't forget this," he says and withdraws from his backpack a small silver mask on a silver chain that he places around his neck. He looks around at the others, waiting for someone to say something.

Erisae dons his dark cloak wordlessly, and slips on a pair of shadowy black boots. He carefully straps on a chain mail shirt, which seems to make very little noise for it's type of equipment. He puts on a belt, tucking a wicked curved dagger into it's sheath. He straps on a thin and worn backpack underneath his cloak, you can't even see it once it's on.

He looks around the room he is now in, and looks back to make sure he can still go back through the portal.

With a shrug, Elle wordlessly saunters through the portal, toward her gear.

She dons an unremarkable and worn black headband, a nice pair of doeskin gloves, and an obviously magical belt. She buckles a shortsword to her right hip and a quiver of arrows to her left. Finally, swinging a beat up old backpack onto her shoulders, she arms herself with a shortbow.

Apparently eager to go, she takes a good look at the temple, trying to get an idea of what she might be in for.

You find that all of your belongings are all accounted for.

As you finish you realize you are standing before a large pyramid covered in thriving vines and underbrush. At best guess the pyramid rises 300 feet high. The whirling of the magical rings still spin behind you. Closer observation reveals a large number “6” near the top of the pyramid. Many steps lead to the top from all sides.

As Elle wanders around the Temple she spots a vine covered dais on the eastern side.

Looking around, Elle spots the dias. "Intriguing..."

Keen to investigate, she politely waits until everyone appears to be kitted out and ready and then pipes up:

"There's some sort of dias over here - let's check it out."

With that, she turns and starts for the dias but stops dead and turns back, a sheepish grin on her face. "Uh, I'm guessing we're all strangers here... I'm Elle. She inclines her head slightly, by way of a greeting. I suppose you might say I'm good at getting to things and places that are tough to get to. And I've also some arcane tricks up my sleeve."

"Who are you folks?"

Following the group over to the dais, Viktor barely pays attention to Elle talk of introduction. He turns to her and quietly says, "Viktor" with a nod. Then he turns his attention back to the dais. This is very interesting. I wonder what its purpose was or is. After a second, a shocked look appears on Viktor's face. I think they have finally left.

Ela pauses on the other side of the portal, glancing back. "Woah, man. Far out. I gotta get one of those. Don't know where I'd put it though."

"Ah, my meager possessions. Let us continue our trip through the world together, whatever this world is." Ela picks up her stuff and slips into her stuff.

As Elle introduces herself, Ela replies, "No way! My name is Ela. Freaky!"

Ela looks around the place and tries to remember if she ever heard any stories about the area, or what she's looking for today.


It always seems like I shouldn't know the outcome of a knowledge roll.

Albie looks around the group, taking a deep breath to stretch his lungs and then letting it out slowly. He smiles and nods to the others. "Name's Albie Moore. Pleased to meet ya." He looks at the man dressed in black who has already started wandering toward the dias, Friendly sort, that one. She seems nice though, should be fun having her around, he thinks turning his attention to Ela.

"Guess we're going this way," he says. He takes a moment to adjust the straps on his backpack one more time and begins moving around to get a better look at the dias, following the direction Erisae went. He uses his spear as a walking stick while he moves.

Since it seems to be the en vogue thing to do, here are some rolls. I don't know which knowledges are appropriate so I rolled the whole slew of them.

Emerging from the portal Gike grunts and stretches. Joining the others in gathering his belongings he smiles as he picks up Winona, his Greataxe.

"Ah Winona. Did those evil people hurt you? Don't worry, we will bathe you in blood."

Smiling he puts on his armor and makes sure that his beard is free and loose before turning and looking at the environment and the others.

"I'm Gike Witchcutter. I cut things. Now since they said they would pay us can we get started and throw me at the enemy?"

He then follows the others, keeping an eye out for trouble.

The sounds of birds resumes after everyone finishes gathering up their belongings. Occasionally the rustle of a small animal can be heard, but it doesn’t sound like anything is going to jump out and grab you.

Ela remembers a small tidbit she overheard in the inn…Lord Bayne had a fight with someone powerful, that someone retreated to a Temple. The two people in the inn didn’t know who or what, only that he lost his daughter in that fight. Otherwise not much is known about this Temple.

As several party members move around on top of the dais Albie realizes there are numbers under the vines, he finds the number 3. It looks like there are more numbers underneath the vines.

There is no obvious door into the pyramid in front of you, regardless of how much you search.

Ela thinks back to the story of the lost daughter. "Oh, the Lord lost his daughter in a fight with someone in the Temple! The temple! That reminds me of a song." Ela looks like she is about to sing, when she notices everyone searching.

"Do you need some help?"

When Gike introduces himself, Albie thinks "Well, gotta respect a man who knows his place in this world. Even if it seems to be only throwing himself at things and slashing them to ribbons."

After making his way up to the dias, Albie responds to Erisae, "Ha, a fine idea! There are indeed other numbers here. I have found the number 3!" He turns back to the vines and begins searching under them for whatever else may be hidden beneath them.

Search [roll0] +? from Ela's song. I don't know the exact bonus for sure, so I didn't include it.

As Erisae steadily cuts away the vines and Albie assists him, they find that the dais looks like a giant clock. In addition to the number 3, they find 2,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10. Where the numbers 1,11 and 12 are missing is a cutout shape like a “U”. As Albie continues his search he finds that it might be possible to shift or turn the dais?

Remember, there is a large number 6 at the top of the pyramid.

((If someone wants to try moving it, roll a strength check for me))

Raising her eyebrows at the brusque reactions of some, Elle returns greetings to those who actually bother to greet her. "At least they're not all social rejects," she thinks as she blows away some of her hair has fallen across her eyes.

Trying to make sense of the dias and the numbers, Elle casts around for any other numbers she might be able to spot. Is there any thing immediately opposite the "six" on the pyramid behind them for example? How large is the pyrmaid - if it would only take a few rounds, Elle will hustle around to the other side of the pyramid to check there. Any longer than 4 rounds though, and she'll wait to see if the dias can be shifted.

Albert stands back listening and thinking deeply about the puzzle in front of them. Interesting. This should be fun, he thinks. While the ideas begin to bubble in his mind, he decides to keep quiet for the time being. Too many chefs spoil the stew. I'll wait to see how the ideas already mentioned pan out before sharing any more.

Having retreating a bit while the others starting poking at a thing in the ground, Gike lovingly polished his Greataxe Winona.

"Yes Winona, Me treat you nice. Keep you shiny, keep you sharp, let you play with people who scream happily. You will be happier soon."

Hearing someone call out for a dwarf Gike at first ignores them, focusing on his axe. Then a faint echo of the call for a dwarf catches his attention and turns towards the others.

"Me no dwarf! Me short but Winona is long, so watch you tongue. Learn speech foolish tall one!"

Already getting bored he decides that while it would be nice to let Winona play, he might as well try to move the dais. Walking towards the dais he grabs it and attempts to turn it.

The dais is stubborn and doesn't want to move, finally Gike moves it a finger length before it stops again. He attempts to push on it again and it simply won't move, perhaps some assistance?

From a pouch on her belt, Elle produces what appears to be a piece of pork rind, and begins to weave an incantation... Once she's finished she says to Gike, "Let's give it another try."

Cast grease on the base of the dias to try and get it to turn more freely.

Viktor starts to move to help but then remembers the last time he helped move an object. It squashed the person he was helping. Not wanting for the same to happen, he looks at the number on top of the pyramid. I wonder why there is a number on top of this pyramid. Does it change? Or are another eleven that work with this one? We were not given enough details about this place. His thoughts are disturbed when he sees Elle perform her spell. I wonder how powerful she really is.

Okay Inspire competence works on skill checks, so unless there's a DM ruling to allow the bonus for a strength check, Ela will help out too.

Albie shrugs. "I actually like her singing. It helps to pass the time."

Who does he think he is? Barking rude commands, never even bothering to introduce himself.

If there is still room for more on the wheel, Albie will also help to turn the plate. If not, he stands nearby carefully watching for any changes in the area around him as the others turn the wheel.

The dais begins to turn with Erisae and Albie working on it and the application of a bit of grease.

((I need to know exactly where the U shapes and the numbers end up. There is an obvious direction to reference numbers on the dais to...it's towards the pyramid in front of you. The numbers and the dais look like a giant clock with the numbers 1, 11 and 12 missing, with U shape cut outs in their place.))

Albie grunts a little with effort when the dias begins to slowly turn. When it gets in place, he pauses for a moment to wipe the few beads of sweat that had formed on his brow.

(I think we were just going to take the suggestions in order, the first was to turn everything to line up with the #6. If that doesn't work, next was to turn it so that the 1, 2, and 3 were lined up with the U and probably also the pyramid.)

As you slowly turn the dais, nothing happens as you turn the number one toward the top nothing happens. Nothing happens until the cut out 'U' shape for the number twelve hits where the 6 would be on the clock. As it slides into place an archway opens before you, beckoning you into the pyramid.

Pausing a quick moment to make a quick hand motion, Viktor ventures in the archway. Only a step or two. He wants a good look but he is no fool. Even though it is dark, the magic he used in the dungeon helps him to see perfectly down the corridor. Turning back to his comrades, he says.

"Good work. I wish I could have helped but that would not have been the best I thought. No muscle." Then Viktor tells everyone what he sees.

Viktor used the Entropic Warding invocation. He now has an entropic shield on him for 6 min. He also does not leave a trail and can not be tracked by scent.

The light from outside falls diagonally into the archway as Viktor looks inside. In the shaft of light, dust motes dance and he looks into a large octagonal room.

In the center of this large octagonal room is a 5 ft wide square pillar from floor to ceiling. Two large iron wheels are mounted 3 ft from the floor on both the western and eastern sides of the central block. All of the angled walls are made of mirrors from floor to ceiling. The floor is covered in dust and riddled with various tracks.

As the archway opens and reveals the strange chamber beyond Elle raises her eyebrows and gives a low whistle of amazement. She wanders over and looks in from the outside. "Neat."

Once she's had a good sticky beak, she reaches into her backpack and pulls out a sunrod, tying it to a strap on her pack. She casts two spells and then cautiously enters the temple, moving to get a closer look at the pillar in the middle of the room.

Viktor awkwardly mores to the side to let Elle go past. It seems that he does not want to get in her way or get too close to her. After she is a little ahead of him, he follows, looking warily at the pillar. More specifically, the two wheels attached to it. "I wonder why there are two wheels," states Viktor as he walks around the pillar. "And why are the walls made of mirrors?" He is not talking to anyone in particular. He is more thinking outloud. He moves closer to the west wall for a better look, though he avoids looking directly at himself. Then he looks around the chamber to see if there any other obvious passages out of this room.

As Elle, Viktor and Erisae search the walls and room, they realize that each mirror has a phrase written at the bottom of each mirror. Elle will know that all the inscriptions are 'vay loos' and it means 'unlock' in draconic.

Elle will also find some odd tracks on the floor ((a survival check or the track feat to determine anything more)).

Viktor and everyone else, will realize there are no obvious ways out of this room, besides going back outside.

As Erisae carefully looks over the gears/wheels, he finds out that one has the letter 'A' on it, the other has the letter 'B'.

Gike can enjoy looking at himself from multiple angles...

Albie follows the others into the room. After being informed of the inscriptions at the bottom of the mirrors, he moves to the center of the room, next to the gear labeled A. He pulls out his everburning torch and tries to examine the gears by looking at their reflection in the mirror, to see if anything else is revealed about them through the mirror that is not evident by looking at just the wheel itself.

Elle easily turns the wheel marked 'B'. Everyone hears a grating sound as a concealed, sliding door opens in the floor in the west end of the room. Stairs go down into the darkness. Once the door is open, everything is silent once more.

Edit:Viktor will easily turn the wheel marked 'A'. The door to the outside slides closed as the wheel turns the dais in front of the pyramid. Now the only light is the enchanted sunrod.

"Huh? Who would have thought?" Viktor says quietly to himself. He tries to turn the wheel back. He stops if anything other than the front door opens. He then leaves the wheels on heads to the stairs. He peers down into the darkness before he continues down. After describing what he sees, he does not want to take any chances. A bolt of pure magic energy flies from his hand down the stairs. He hoped that the flash of light startled any nasty surprises that could be down there.

The wheel marked 'A' only opens and closes the front door. As he descends down the stairs, there is a faint light coming from the edges of the room downstairs. He stops in the middle of the stairs and sends a bolt down, it illuminates the floor and he can tell there is a room beneath the one they are currently standing in, but not much more, unless he wishes to descend the rest of the way down.

Order of march according to post...Viktor, Erisae, Albie, Elle, Gike and Ela

As everyone arrives downstairs, the descent reveals a room (45 ft by 45 ft) that shares the same center pillar as the octagonal room above. Four torch sconces with burning torches rest on each of the four sides. Three sandstone pedestals, spaced evenly along the southern wall, hold creatures that resemble small-winged devils. Their hair blazes, adding light to the room. Additional torches behind each pedestal increase visibility and cast shadows everywhere. The creatures glare and quickly attack. On the north wall are three more pedestals, with a devil on each.

The three on the south wall fly and attack Viktor, Erisae and Albie.

The first dramatically misses Viktor and flies face first into the stairs, that's gonna hurt. The second flies at Erisae, claws attacking his face and doing 3 damage with it's claws and 3 in fire damage associated with clawing him. The third dive bombs Albie and it's claws skitter off his armor.

Albie takes the spear he'd been using as a walking stick and quickly pulls it up to attack. He fakes an attack to the little creatures left side, but at the last moment, stabs instead to its right. All the while, he is careful to dodge any new incoming attacks.

As soon as Ela understands that the group is under attack the tune she is humming changes cadence dramatically. Her tune and words inspire courage in those that can hear her and everyone feels stronger, more agile and more adept in general at killing stuff. It also helps that a dramatic moment in the song, the *shinck* of a longsword being pulled from its scabbard can be heard behind them.

Smirking and shaking his head, Viktor turns to the devil that crashed into the stairs. His right hand becomes veiled with arcane energy. There is a flicker of flame and then it resumes it normal green. "This does not seem like a time for fire," Viktor states as he releases an eldritch blast at the dazed devil. He then draws his battle-worn morningstar into his hand, looking for his next target.

Elle casts Wall of Smoke from the stairs and black smoke swirls into existence, covering the 30ft distance from the staircase on the west side to the east wall. (DC16 Fort save or be nauseated for 1 round).

Viktor gathers a blast of green eldritch energy and the unfortunate fire mephit screams as it dies. He draws his Morningstar…looking around for his next target.

Albie feints left, but fire mephit isn’t fooled and is ready when Albie attacks to the right. The fire mephit easily avoids the spear and it thunks against the floor. ((You rolled a 1 on your attack roll, yes?)) Albie realizes he knows very little except that they are fire mephits and using fire to fight them? Might be a very bad idea…

Gike is more than ready for some killing action and Winona thirsts for the blood of the closest fire mephit, he can get in position this round.

Ela is near the top of the stairs, but can be heard clearly by those below. She resoundingly sings Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! (a song I love) and all allies within hearing gain a +1 on saving throws, attacks, weapon damage rolls. At the proper dramatic moment she slides her longsword free.

Erisae delays, waiting for the perfect time.

Fire Mephits…#2 and #3 remain alive. They look like miniature devils, wreathed in flames and cackle with mischief as they attack. They are about 4 feet tall and weigh about 1 pound. #2 breathes fire at Erisae (make a reflex save DC12, 4 total or 2 for half damage). #3 flies up, casts heat metal at the dwarf and cackles madly. Gike will begin to notice that his armor and other metal items in his possession are growing warm and uncomfortable.

There is muffled chanting from the fire mephits on the other side of the wall of smoke…

The only obvious exit from the southern half of the room is going back up the stairs.

Albie curses quietly under his breath as he spear slips out of his grasp. He decides to leave the spear lay where it sits for now, instead drawing out his morningstar while he moves. Albie takes advantage of the opportunity the mephit left when it flew higher into the air by moving around into a flanking position with Erisae as he draws his new weapon. After getting into position, Albie grasps the weapon in both hands and takes a mighty swing.


Move Action: Move to flank (if possible) while drawing out morningstar.

The party is on the south half of the map with 2 fire mephits. The grey smoke is in the middle of the room, blocking your sight from the northern half of the room. Pick your spot, remember, you just came down the stairs on the west side of the map in block C 5/6. Fire Mephit #3 is in E6(flying), Fire Mephit #2 is is 5-10 feet from Erisae))

Elle casts invisibility and winks out of sight

Viktor attacks #2 with his morningstar and it swishes right next to the mephit! Missing him.

Albie swings at #3 and slices the creature in two from neck to thigh, it screams as it dies.

Gike realizes his armor is beginning to get very uncomfortably hot, at a point where it contacts his skin it does 1 damage and Gike is beginning to get hot himself (he rages +4 STR(19/+4), +4 CON (63hp), +2 will saves, -2 AC, rage lasts 7 rounds). He looks around for the closest target and realizes the one in front of him died, but guess what, there are quite a few on the other side of the wall of smoke, he can hear them and vaguely see them. He runs blindly through the wall of smoke, 1d20+7=18 fort save (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1586980/) and indeed, spots quite a few more enemies he can pound into the ground. In fact, one is so close, he swings at it and screams WINONA! 1d20+10=16 attack (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1587000/) Gike feels the satisfaction of his greataxe thunking solidly into the fire mephit in front of him. 1d12+5=16, 1d8=1 damage (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1587004/) In fact, the newly summoned fire mephit drops dead to the floor in front of him. Gike is pleased and looks for the next fire mephit.

Ela moves down the stairs and into block D6 (round 2 of all allies within hearing gain a +1 on saving throws, attacks, weapon damage rolls.)

Erisae moves to help Albie and realizes that Albie already sliced it in two, but he’s in a prime spot to help with #2 although his dagger also swishes past this fire mephit

Fire Mephits, well, 1, 3, 7, are dead, leaving #2 in the same room with the majority of the party. That one turns and attacks Viktor with it’s claws. It slices into Viktor’s face with it’s miniature claws and does 1 damage with 2 fire damage. ((yes, I remembered the -1 assoc. with your armor))

On the other side of the smoke wall, Gike soon finds himself surrounded (although he cannot be flanked because of Improved Uncanny Dodge) by two more fire mephits, #5 and #6 for killing off their summoned friend. Each decide to try bathing him in fire. Gike 1d20+5=6 fails his reflex save (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1587022/) and takes 5 points of fire damage, between his armor getting hotter and the flames, it’s bound to make him madder. #4 decides it’s best to try summoning more fire mephits and begins to chant once more.

Sweating beading from his flesh, Gike grunts past the uncomfortable warmth that is seeping through his armor. It tickles memories of a long distant past, wrapped in a haze of childhood and innocence.

He then swings over at Fire Mephits #5 as either his anger or insanity starts to cause him to laugh manically.

Elle shoots at Fire Mephit #2, the arrow sinks into it’s flesh as it was turned to face Viktor, 4 initial damage (with Inspire Courage), the sneak attack damage takes the fire mephit out and it screeches in anger at everyone as it falls to the floor…

Viktor ensures the job is finished, the fire mephit burns in the wrath of his eldritch energy.

Albie finds he doesn’t need to take a step forward as he watches the fire mephit burn, he probably wants to take a step backward?

Gike finds himself surrounded by two fire mephits, in a fit of rage he smashes into one with his greataxe, much to his satisfaction he cleaves it in two. He turns to the second, laughing insanely, and cleaves it in two, leaving him surrounded by pieces of fire mephit and spattered with blood. His armor continues to heat to searing temperatures, he takes 4 damage.

Ela finds her longsword isn’t needed for the very dead fire mephit on the floor in front of her.

Erisae is nauseated by the smell (for 1 round) as he passes through the wall of black smoke. He’s just in time to watch Gike slice the second fire mephit in two. ((unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention, Erisae gets a single move action and free actions))

The Fire Mephit is unsuccessful this round in summoning another one, it desperately starts chanting again.

"That is what you get." Viktor then passes through the wall of smoke to see if there is any remaining mephits. Seeing that there is one left, a dark spreads across his face. "Perfect. Target practice." His two hands come back together to form the dark energy he used last time. This time the energy crackles with moredarkness within it. "Iauns atrum." comes from Viktor's mouth, sounding darker than before. Yes. Give in to your rage and accept the power I offer you. No do not do it. Shut up. He can not hear you now.

With a heavy hearted sigh, Elle puts her hand over her mouth and ducks through the smoke. Emerging unscathed she sidesteps to get a shot at the demon, nocks an arrow and fires.

Elle quickly moves through the smoke without becoming nauseated. She quickly fires her shortbow at the fire mephit and it ceases chanting as it turns to try and deal with the arrow sticking out of it's ribs.

Viktor follows Elle and is not nauseated as he moves through the wall of smoke. He says his incantation with dark overtones and blasts the fire mephit, it begins to tumble off it’s column.

Albie remains in the southern half of the room, waiting for the smoke to clear.

Gike rushes forward and completes the fire mephits fall from the column, with a solid twack to it’s head. He gets the satisfaction of watching the head separate from the shoulders. His armor continues to be searing hot, he gets another 5 damage and it continues to get hotter.

Ela will probably think she no longer needs her longsword when she hears the death cry from the other half of the room and with no more mad cackling from any other fire mephits.

Erisae recovers from almost puking on the floor, he swallows and stands up to find the other fire mephit dead and decapitated.

After all is said and done, the people on the north side of the room can clearly see there is an exit out of this room on the west side. Ela and Albie wait, the smoke clears and everyone is reunited.

As he awaits an answer, he wanders around the room inspecting the injured mephits, delivering a coup de grace to any that might still be alive.

After looking at the cut from the one claw of his shoulder, Viktor replies to Albie, "Just a small scratch. More annoyed at the fact that the mephit hit me."

How did you like that power? Did it not feel good to use? You. You made me do that. You took cont I did not take anything you willingly gave. You must balance yourself before i I thought I told you he could not hear you anym I thought I told you both to SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE.

He shakes his head to clear the jumbled thoughts in time to hear Erisae announce that he is going to be leader. "You just want all the power for yourself," mutters Viktor after hearing the great battle plan. "Instead of you deciding everything, how about we pick partners? This way we will have people that best compliment each other. For example you, Erisae, need to get behind opponents to be the most effective. So you need someone to attract attention. I think that best person for that is Gike because of what I saw in this brief fight. What do you think, Elle?" As Viktor finishes, he turns to face the mage.

Responding to Viktor, Elle speaks up.

"I think partnering up is a good idea. If Gike and Erisae fight together, maybe Ela and Albie could watch each others' back. None of us chose to be here, but if we wanna walk out of this, we're going to have to help each other out."

"I for one am going to be a little more careful with that smoke spell. And I think I can help Erisae with his positioning too," she pulls a wand with matching jewels in either end from her pack and tucks it into her belt.

"There's a doorway here, let's get moving."

Elle will look to see if any of her arrows are recoverable (fired two - both hit), and search one of the demons she hit to see if there is anything of value to be had.

Elle finds both of her arrowheads, (unless the shafts were made from fire resistant materials, they're unusable. Roll a search check)

Viktor (damage: 3), Erisae (damage: 6) and Ela is unhurt.

Albie looks over each fire mephit and each one is dead, with one missing it's head.

Gike's (damage: 22) armor continues to be searing hot and soon? will they see a burnt dwarf? or a half naked one?

"I'd be happy to watch the lovely songstress' back for the time being, but we shouldn't get too stuck in a plan. Flexibility is vital to a successful life," Albie says after looking over the last of the Mephits. His eyes then focus on Gike. "Oh no! Take that armor off. You'll bake yourself in that armor. Give the mephit's heat a chance to die down. I can make several gallons of water in a hurry, but water will likely not quench that heat." After giving this advice, Albie casts a spell and gingerly reaches over to touch Gike, being careful to avoid touching the metal.

Cast Lesser Vigor. Gike gets fast healing 1 for 15 rounds.

After Gike tears his armor off and several minutes later the heat is dying down finally. It would be best to wait a little longer before putting it back on. Gike will also heal up nicely (except for 7 points), now that he's no longer being burnt by his own armor.

Elle will find a few gold, fire mephits don't carry much on their person, it tends to melt or burn after to long.

Whilst Gike's armor cools, Elle quickly and methodically searches each of the fallen fire mephits. She divides the findings up evenly and hands them out to the group.

"No reason we can't try to make ourselves a little profit while we're in here," she says with a small grin.

Elle looks through the doorway in the west wall to see what's next. Turning back she asks, "Erisae, Gike - care to lead on?"

Licking a finger Gike touches his armor. Unlike the previous several attempts the moisture does not evaporate and singe his finger, but he feels instead a comfortable warmth from the armor.

"About bloody time. While the cool air is nice on my body my armor is lonely. Right Winona?"

Getting armored up he takes his share of the profiles and smiles.

"Free gold? For spilling blood! This is a easy job!"

Hearing his name called he turns and takes point towards the next chamber.

Grumbling about no one wanting to partner with him, Viktor accepts the small amount of gold with a forced smile. Why did no one want to partner with me? Because they are afraid of you. This is good. It will lead you toward more power. Nay. This is worse. If no one trusts you enough, there is no way that you can gather more power. Friendship is a power you have yet to understand. I think one of you is correct but that does not change the fact that I told you both to SHUT UP.
Thinking over what both said, Viktor decides that he should try something different, even if that means trying to get close to some people. With this decision, his face brightens as if a veil or shadow was removed from it. He turns his focus back toward his group in time to her Erisae quiet the bard and head down the hallway alone. Turning toward Ela, "I can understand his problem with constant music. But he must realize the help you bring us. I know that if you did not sing, I would have been in deeper trouble. Furthermore, I enjoy your songs. Maybe we should help each other when it comes to fights."

Erisae creeps down the hallway ahead of Gike, as he leaves the room he finds a dead end ahead of him and a hallway going to the left with a closed door in front of him, as he listens at the door he can some rustling on the other side with some sporadic talking. He can't quite hear what they're talking about. Gike comes along behind Erisae with Elle, Albie, Viktor and Ela remaining behind for the moment.

After giving the two a decent lead, Viktor coaxes the others down the hallway. He stops about 15 feet from the pointmen. I must be careful. He checks and makes sure that everyone around him is staying pretty quiet. He looks and sees the dwarf disappear through a doorway. He tries to catch Erisae's eye and gesture to call for help if need be. Viktor then waits to see what happens, muttering "Pacis" over and over again. It is an effort to try and shut out the continuing argument in his head. Ditch these fools. You could go through this entire temple by yourself. And you would do it better also. Stay with your fellow companions. They can help you in a time of need. They will just get in your way. They have no reason to hinder you, since they are in similar situations.

Gike walks through the door...

This meeting chamber lacks chairs now, dominated only by a single stone table. Seven molten-colored creatures resembling large eels surround the table, in various stages of rest. They look at your group with crimson eyes ablaze; each wears chainmail, carries an oddly shaped mirror shield and is armed with a wicked longsword. The room is 50 feet long by 20 feet wide.

They look up in surprise at the dwarf as he hefts his battleaxe in one hand and stares at them. No words are spoken, Gike idly scratches himself as he wonders what they are. They all look at each other and the first two begin moving towards Gike, menacing him with their longswords. Gike hefts his axe higher, ready for them.

Ela agrees that music could alert someone to their presense and she tries to not sing. But her silence turns to finger tapping and head bobbing within moments and by the time Erisae is telling Gike to enter the room Ela is "Do-da-dooing" quietly and following Viktor.

When Viktor begins his little chant Ela joins along quietly adding some harmony notes to blend with his little chants.

Viktor moves closer and into the doorway to evaluate the situation.

For the moment Erisae remains unnoticed as all of the large eels are watching the dwarf and the incoming Viktor with the others crowding in behind him. ((There isn’t anywhere to hide, not to many shadows or objects to hide in or behind))

Gike rages and moves forward to meet the large eels as they menace him with their longswords. He attacks #2, shouting Winona! His first attack hits #2 attack, damage, extra (1d20+11=26, 1d12+5=11, 1d8=3) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1607936/), he slices down, shearing it in two with his axe. He turns to attack #1, attack, damage, extra (1d20+11=29, 1d12+5=6, 1d8=8) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1607939/), he takes it down easily, leaving the remaining eel things to eye him warily.

Albie waits behind Viktor.

Ela begins to sing along with Viktor’s chanting.

Most of the large eels move forward one block as they see everyone at the door. #4 moves up and attacks Gike, the sword goes low, slicing into his short stocky legs (3 damage) #3 takes a step forward and attacks Gike and the sword goes high and initially slides off his breastplate before hitting him (1 damage). #6 looks like it’s about ready to make a run for it down the hallway going east.

Albie whispers under his breath, "Oh no you don't." He then says a quick prayer, calling on Olidammara's gifts to hide his from view. As he casts, he fades from view. After becoming completely invisible, Albie rushes across the room, hoping that his spell will be enough to protect him from any attacks. He grips his spear tightly, preparing it for battle as he moves. He stops after having cut off the fleeing eel's progress.


Standard: Cast Invisibility.
Move: S, S, S, SE, S, SE, ending in what would be E8 if it were labelled on the map (sorry for going off it). His move of 40' should make this no problem.

I'm not going to worry about healing those fairly minor wounds for now. He'd already given Gike quite a bit of healing, and nobody spoke up when he asked about needing healing. He wouldn't be too concerned with the fairly superficial wounds unless the people who suffered them were.

Elle fires an arrow at #6, the arrow skitters off it’s armor and hits against the wall before stopping.

Viktor fires an eldritch blast, easily overcoming #3 and it shrivels and burns to ash without a sound. He realizes these are firenewts, they can breath fire and usually ride giant striders.

Erisae drinks a potion and vanishes from sight.

Gike swings at #4, it has no chance to dodge as the greataxe bites deeply into it.

If Firenewt #5 is still alive:

Chasing after the coward Gike will attempt to catch up to it and cut it down.


If Firenewt #5 is dead:

Seeing the corpse of the fallen enemy Gike shifts his attention towards Firenewt #7 and starts making hit way towards it.

Erisae makes his move action and ends up in C8

Elle fires at #7 and her arrow goes wide.

Viktor’s eldritch blast flickers harmlessly against the mirror shield held by the firenewt.

Erisae attacks #6, his dagger slides off the firenewt’s armor. attack (1d20+6=15) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1613838/) ((no flank when Albie is invisible and not threatening the firenewt quite yet))

Gike lumbers forward almost pushing #5 into the wall with his attack. In his haste to kill the firenewt, he takes one wrong step and almost slices his foot off as his axe thunks into the wall behind the firenewt. attack,(1d20+11=12) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1613845/)

Albie reappears as he thrusts forward with his spear at #6 and pierces it’s armor, it falters midstep. It was trying to leave the room and an armed man suddenly appeared and attacked.

Ela moves a little closer, seemingly distracted from the fight.

Firenewt #7 is off, quietly slipping out the door, into the next room. (the arrow points where he went, make a spot check to see him go.) #5 steps towards the seemingly ineffective warlock and strikes out with it’s longsword. It turns out he’s feeling ineffective as his sword fails to strike Viktor. #6 attacks Albie, although his sword gets tangled in the smaller area of the doorway.

Elle moves around the table in the center of the room and fires an arrow at the firenewt between Albie and Erisae, her arrow finds its mark, the firenewt grunts in pain as it sinks in.

Viktor starts moving away from firenewt #5, the firenewt swings at him, but misses as Viktor suddenly moves to the far side of the room. He finds a locked door.

Erisae’s blade finds that critical weakness in the firenewt’s armor and it gets a sudden surprised look on it’s face as it dies.

Gike attacks full force at the firenewt in front of him, with a muttered curse for each twack of his axe. attack, damage, extra (1d20+11=24, 1d12+5=10, 1d8=2) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1616011/) On the first blow his axe sinks satisfyingly into the creature. He wrests it out and goes for the kill. attack, damage (1d20+6=26, 1d12+5=17) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1616022/) confirm crit (1d20+6=17) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1616025/) ((damage is x3)) That firenewt is now in at least three pieces and is very dead with a raging dwarf standing over it.

With the firenewt in front of him dead, he looks down the hallway behind him, it leads down a long corridor, where all seems to be quiet. He moves down to where Viktor is confronted with a closed door, it's the only place the last one could have gone. The firenewt didn't go past Albie and down the hallway.

Ela walks down to A1 and finds it is a dead end, she turns back and slowly heads into the room where the others are.

Albie watches over Elle's shoulder as she tackles the lock. Handy skill to know. I ought to practice that some time.

If she is still unsuccessful, Albie will say, "Try it one more time. This time you'll have the blessing of Olidammara to guide your hand." He prays for a moment, and places a hand on her shoulder.

He turns to the others, saying "And while she works on that, is there anybody that requires healing before moving on?"

Cast Guidance. It's only a +1, but it seems like we could use every bonus we can get.

Yes...Erisae's attempt at picking the lock failed quite miserably...

A search of the door turns up nothing more exciting than a series of scratch marks across it. Elle's first attempt at picking the lock fails and when she tries a second time, she finally hears the click from the mechanism.

Viktor moves to D8 and looks down a long hallway, he doesn't see any doors along it, or any firenewts. It doesn't seem to lead to the same area.

Albie watches and asks if anyone needs any healing. ((Viktor is down 3 hp, Erisae 6, and Gike 7))

Gike is busy hacking the firenewt in front of him into tiny little pieces. No one is going to rez or raise this firenewt...

Ela, is wandering, looking around, and probably humming to herself.

Noticing that this doorway leads down a hallway, Viktor turns back to the group. However, Ela interrupts this with her question. Anger flashes through him as if a dam was broken. Without thinking, he points his hand through the doorway, and releases fiery blast that hurts the eyes of anyone who looks at it directly. "Most are gone. No thanks to you." Viktor spits at Ela as he walks slowly back to the group. The walk calms him a little but he still has some fury within him. "That opening leads to a hallway. I saw no enemies." He pauses to take a breath and thinks of what he just did. "I might have signaled something to come though. Sorry."

As he watches the others, thoughts drift through Viktor's head. Let your anger feed you. It will give you power. Apologize to her. You hurt her feelings. Let the others be afraid of you. It gives you power. I need to think before I act. Help the group. Do not push them away. I need to control my emotions.

Released a Brimstone blast down the hall. If for some reason it actually hits something other than a wall, I am amazed. It would take 3d6 fire damage and have to make a DC 16 Reflex save or catch on fire for 1 round after the blast hits.

Well...it seems as though the dwarf barbarian is attempting to compensate for something and he can't seem to get the door open no matter how hard he huffs and puffs and rolls less than 5 on a dice roller...

Someone else will obviously have to step up and show the dwarf how to open a stubborn door.

All seems to be quiet still down the other hallway as the party struggles to get one simple door to open.

The bard succeeds where the barbarian failed. The door suddenly gives and slams open in to the room. As you peer in, the firenewt is not immediately visible. The chair that was propped against the door is lying on the floor.

Within are two narrow tables, various glass bottles of all sizes, and strange instruments that hold the bottles for their intended use. A slight sulfuric smell lingers in the air. Large mirrors hang from ceiling to floor on the north and south walls. Several open flames rest in bowls and torch sconces, obviously magical. A small white coat and a short staff rest in the corner, dust and charcoal staining the material.

He then enters the room and scans the found items. His eyes glow and then dim. "I can keep magic eye on things, if it helps you Elle."

Elle identifies the first potion as a Cure light wounds, the second one tastes similar to the first, but the third seems be something completely different and has a bad taste to it.

Erisae walks back down to the hallway and finds a good spot to watch down the hallway, ((make a spot check)).

Viktor identifies the last one as a potion of stinking cloud. The middle one is still unknown except that it’s similar to the first one.

The staff is 4 feet long. It is fastened to a leather strap to make it easy to sling over your shoulder. It bears a small rune of a dagger on one end. The wand is made of amber and has a small trapped lightning bug at one end of it. With detect magic the staff has a stronger aura than the wand.

When Viktor mentions stinking cloud Elle's eyes light up. "Stinking cloud? Really? That's a conjuration spell that I have been hoping to master myself. Unless someone else would like it, I'd very much like to have that."

Bagging the spellbook and the potion of stinking cloud for herself, Elle passes the wand and the potion of cure light wounds to Viktor.

She hands the staff to Ela with a shrug saying, "see if you can do anything with this."

Lastly she turns to Gike and says, "Here. Take this dwarf, and drink it if you get badly wounded."

On her way back out of this room, she'll check the dead firenewt in the corner to see if it had anything of value, and try to recover her arrow.

I do not want it to blow up in my face. He then leaves the room and joins Erisae in the hallway. "What is it?"

Elle distributes the gains and then searches the firenewt in the corner. She finds chainmail, an oddly shaped mirror shield, a longsword, a necklace with a small withered hand about it’s neck and a black pearl and a fire opal, although she finds her arrow is unrecoverable.

When Viktor peers down the long hallway he doesn’t hear or see anything and he feels like it’s beginning to get late in the day.

Elle, proceeds back to the room where the main fight with the firenewts took place and begins searching the other bodies.

Elle and Albie find 6 more longswords, 6 more mirror shields, chainmail, 1 more withered hand on a necklace and several more gems, a few platinum and quite a few gold pieces. Albie finds a flask of with some kind of potion.

gems-bloodstone, moss agate 7 platinum, 257 gold

The staff is 4 feet long. It is fastened to a leather strap to make it easy to sling over your shoulder. It bears a small rune of a dagger on one end.

Everything continues to be quiet down the hallway, no movement or noises.

If anybody is in the mood for a good story, I've told a few in my day. I'd be glad to spin a yarn for anyone who wants to hear it." He waits for a few minutes to gauge the others interest.

The spellbook is leather-bound with brass corners and a crescent moon-shaped sigil burned onto the front cover. It contains, arcane mark, dancing lights, detect magic, disrupt undead, ghost sound, ray of frost, read magic, identify, obscuring mist, silent image, sleep, unseen servant, blur, continual flame, invisibility, locate object, and tongues. The book is 18 pages long and the last page is blank.

For the rest of you, I will need a watch rotation and everyone who is standing watch needs to make listen and spot checks. Please tell me where you are going to stand watch, (what gridpoint on the map).

Ela settles in to rest for the night and proceeds to tell a brief, but entertaining story about a group of individuals that were brought together by forces beyond their control to save a princess, who turns out to be one of the group's sister, and destroy an emperor by befriended a great knight of the emperor, who turns out to be the siblings' father.

Albie settles down in one corner, as happy to listen to a good tale as to tell it himself. Before turning in, he catches Viktor's attention. "You're taking first watch, right? Wake me up when you're done, and I'll join in on second with Ela."

He then turns to face the wall and drifts off to sleep rather quickly. He snores softly.


On second watch, Albie will stand just oustide the room (in D12), so as not to disturb those trying to sleep. Here are the checks, in case you need them on second shift.

The first two watches with Viktor/Erisae and Ela/Albie go quietly. No sounds, no motion from where they can see. ((I have people standing watch in D12 and I12, just outside the room and inside the room. No one else posted another spot and I rolled spot/listen checks for those that didn’t.))

On the last watch with Gike (D12)/Elle (I12), Gike gets the first inkling of trouble when he turns towards the hallway and suddenly 4 firenewts leap out at him from the hallway. He gets a split second to make an action as the first one comes within 5ft of him (will post the action after Pwenet responds). Inside the room, Elle will see something swiftly moving in the room beyond, (I assume the door is propped open). She can hear approx 2 firenewts outside and she saw one. (Elle can start alerting everyone)

((Everyone else is asleep and Elle will have to wake them up and then everyone will have to get up and start moving towards the door. All others, place yourself, (and I really don’t expect that every single one of you to have slept right next to the door…) and the order you’ll all leave the room. Roll your init.))

Gike takes a 5 foot step to guard the door and keep any firenewts from entering before the others are fully awake. He rages and promptly attacks the first one and drops it in its tracks, (attack (1d20+12=30), damage (1d12+4=11, extra (1d8=6) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1687215/)) He moves right on to #2… (attack (1d20+12=30), damage (1d12+4=15), extra (1d8=8) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1687216/)), with great cleave he tries to continue his killing streak onto #3…(attack (1d20+12=15) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1687218/)), but he doesn’t quite make it with the third firenewt, it has its shield up and the greataxe slips across the face.

This one, in revenge for his fallen comrades, attacks Gike, his longsword gets past the raging dwarf’s guard (damage: 7).

Elle quickly moves around the room waking everyone up, while Gike is busy holding all 4 of the firenewts off.

Hearing the sounds of combat, Albie's gentle snoring becomes a snort of surprise. "Huh?" he grunts then looking out the door to where Gike was battling the newts. "Oh," he answers his own question. He grabs the spear he'd left leaning against the wall next to him and uses it to pull himself up.

Grunting in shock as the longsword stabs him Gike roars at the firenewt and grabs the sword, holding it in place as he slashes at the firenewt with the Greataxe while trying to position his body to keep the other firenewt from entering the chamber.

Albie stands and is ready to advance.

The remaining two firenewts close in on the raging dwarf, ready to take him down. The first swings its longsword and completely loses his grip, it ends up hitting the opposite wall and effectively disarms him. The second attacks and his sword slides off the dwarf’s armor.

Ela grabs her sword and she’s ready to help Gike.

Gike remains standing in front of the door, he swings mightily with his axe at the first firenewt. (attack (1d20+12=18), damage (1d12+4=8), extra (1d8=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1689510/)) He almost drops it, the firenewt does drop the longsword…because Gike just took his arm off. Ignoring the Firenewt that is missing an arm Gike focuses his concentration on the one that lost it's sword through it's own clumsiness. Hacking and slashing he advances on it until it is dead or they are close enough to hug if that was their thing.

Ela moves and fires at the one armed firenewt, (#3) but misses as it suddenly backs away from Gike

Gike heaves his axe at the firenewt that just breathed fire at him. (attack (1d20+12=15) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1693696/)) Much to his frustration he misses the firenewt. He swings again, (attack (1d20+7=25), damage (1d12+4=5) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1693697/)) and succeeds on hitting it (#4), but not enough to drop it.

Albie thrusts his spear forward, deliberately aiming the spear tip too high. Come on, ignore the spear, he thinks, hoping the creature will ignore what looks to be a miss. However, at the very last second, he tries to bring the spear head down into the creature.

Albie’s feint succeeds, the firenewt follows the initial movement of the spear and moves to intercept it and can’t react fast enough and Albie’s spear goes clean through and kills the firenewt (#4)

The armless firenewt is very nervous and keeps backing up, faltering occasionally from loss of blood.

Ela is waiting for the mess at the door to clear up.

Gike advances after the remaining firenewt and pursues and easily catches up to the wounded firenewt. He attacks and the firenewt drops underneath his axe, dying very quickly… (attack (1d20+12=30), damage (1d12+4=10), extra (1d8=8) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1698275/)) It ends up in a few more pieces.

Albie proceeds to shake his spear, trying to remove the impaled fire newt. Eventually he gives up, on the shaking method and holds his speak point down, forcing the creature down the spear with his boot. "Anymore of them out there?" he asks Gike, who probably has a better view of the room outside.

Ela wakes tiredly and a little sad. She ponders her situation. She doesn't feel useful, and she thinks that everyone is too tense. Her eyes light a moment and she thinks about something, then begins to sing.

After waking, Albie spends a good amount of time sitting alone in his corner, deep in prayer and contemplation. When he finally begins moving again, he packs up his bedroll. He is moving none too fast; it is obvious he is not a morning person.

This changes when Ela declared the location of a wick. "Excellent work! Hopefully this is the wick we're looking for. Shall we be off then? No reason to stay on here, I don't think. Maybe you'd like to lead the way, Gike?" He shows a large smile under his thick black beard. He quickly hoists his bag up onto his shoulders and grabs up his spear, looking eager to move.

Gike walks down the long hallway for 50 feet or so before he comes to the junction with a hallway going north/south. The left/north way looks like it goes for at least 15-20 feet if not further, it's hard to tell. The right/south way looks much shorter and it ends in a stone wall (there is a hard to see doorway near the end of the hallway). Directly ahead, the hallway continues for about the same length and there is an opening in the stone wall approx. 15 feet down and to the left.

Gike heads right. He finds a dead end and a half opened door leading to the left. He can see a little of the room from where he is. There is a source of light in the room and he can see bedrolls.

You are at the bottom of the map where the half opened door is.
