EvilElitist and I had the idea that it would be interesting to find out the age/gender demographics that revolve around the like and dislike of Fourth Edition.

In the first part of the poll, simply answer the two options that fit you best.

{table]Option | Votes
I like 4e and am 13-17 | 4
I like 4e and am 18-25 | 26
I like 4e and am 26-30 | 6
I like 4e and am 31+ | 4
I like 4e and am male | 36
I like 4e and am female | 4
I am neutral about 4e and am 13-17 | 6
I am neutral about 4e and am 18-25 | 9
I am neutral about 4e and am 26-30 | 5
I am neutral about 4e and am 31+ | 3
I am neutral about 4e and am male | 22
I am neutral about 4e and am female | 1
I dislike 4e and am 13-17 | 2
I dislike 4e and am 18-25 | 7
I dislike 4e and am 26-30 | 3
I dislike 4e and am 31+ | 1
I dislike 4e and am male | 11
I dislike 4e and am female | 2
For Instance, I like 4e, am 26-30 and am Male.

In the second part, we are going to research into why you like/dislike 4e based on your intent to purchase it. Please select the one option that best suits you.

Buying
{table]Option | Reason | Votes
1 |I wholeheartedly agree with everything, or almost everything, 4E has put out and will certainly buy it | 21
2 | I agree with all or almost all of the changes, and will buy it, but i'm not sure it WotC will do it right | 12
3 | I like most of the changes, but there are one or two issues I really disagree with. | 7
4 | I like maybe 60-70% of the changes, through some issues bother me. | 5
5 | I dislike at least half of the changes, but i'll buy it and see how it turns out | 2
6 | I hate it so far, but maybe WotC will surprise me |
7 | I've never played D&D, so this is my first chance |
Neutral
{table]Option | Reason | Votes
8 | It seems good so far, but i'm still inclined wait and see. I expect great things, and i like the changes | 4
9 | I like most of the stuff, but I don't think it will work well |
10 | It seems pretty good, I like some stuff, but the stuff i don't like is enough to make me wait | 7
11 | I don't care ether way, I'm going to look into with a new option | 1
12 | I dislike it, but I'm inclined to give them a chance when I see the books. | 7
13 | I don't have any money, or not enough to spend on this |
Not Buying
{table]Option | Reason | Votes
14 | Not interested, I'm content with 3E | 3
15 | D&D is boring, I'm moving on |
16 | I've had enough with RPGs for a while |
17 | Its cool, but I'm just not interested | 3
18 | Awful game, I don't want to buy it | 1
19 | Not worth my money | 1
20 | Meh, it doesn't have anything that interests me | 2
I will attempt to calculate results as they come in and have percentages.

I like 4e, am male, am 26-30. Option 1.

Good idea for a thread.

Neutral
18-25
Male

Option 11 suits best, though this may be because a friend is pretty much certainly buying it anyway.

Edit: if the reason is desirable, I'm neutral because I think the mechanics and setting are reasonably interesting and basically sound inasmuch as I know them but are also quite unsuitable for my preferred style of gaming. It's the sort of thing that I'd be willing to play, but probably wouldn't get into very deeply.

male, 26, 4: buyer, sceptical about some changes but like the concept as a whole.

Mind you, as a collecter type, mild dislike for some elements doesn't stop me from buying, wincing at design, and using anyway. Haven't seeen anything in 4th ed that would make me wince yet. 3.5 ed Weapons of legacy was the 3.5item I considered most irritating in concept.

EDIT: and as for reason why I'm interested, I have sentimental attachment to D&D as a whole, and like to watch the system evolve: new ways of doing things are always interesting to see. I liked ToB for the more martial arts-esque manuevers, especially those that make me think of movie stunts: Setting Sun Ballista Throw was my favourite. So the per encounter theme of 4th ed didn't throw me.

Option 17 (which is under the dislike section for some reason)

My attitude towards 4E is that I won't be spending money on the books like I did with 3.x. I will play it if someone else buys the books and runs the games for a change.

Am I allowed to complain about the lumping of all us trigenarians with the rest of the old folk?

I like 4e and am male

2) I agree with all or almost all of the changes, and will buy it, but I am well aware that despite my agreeable nature and trendsetting tastes not every single one of my whims will be fully realised with this edition, I am of course expecting a rapid errata response to remeady this dreadful oversight.

Part 2:

14) Not interested, I'm content with 3E

Yeah, not happy with the fact that they're throwing out so many things. Example: Devil Succubi, the overall change to Demons/Devils, Assmodeus ascending to Godhood, etc.

Were I to have my way, the same flavour changes they made in 4E would likewise get dumped by 5E. Setting bad prescedents.

I'll put myself mostly in the "Neutral" camp. I'm male and between 18 and 25.

I don't know what other option to classify my feelings under, though. They go like this:

"4e looks like it will be a good system, but not in a way that will replace 3e. Which of the two will be superior depends on whether I am wanting an involved gaming experience or a casual one, and whether my group is currently trying to involve new players and teach them how to play or not."\

Edit: I guess Option 10 is the closest.

I love DnD because it's a communal, creativity-oriented game. 4e seems to be geared toward making it both easier for newbies to pick it up, and easier for all players to be useful in combat situations, which were the two main problems I had with 3.x.

I'm not sure if the options are meant to be a continuum of approval/disapproval, but they don't seem very continuous. I'd probably place myself as a mix of #1 and #2, I largely like the changes we've seen with a few exceptions, but I don't doubt Wizards ability to deliver a polished product.

I like 4e, am 13-17 and am Male. Option 2 suits me best--almost every piece of 4e fluff so far seems to have been ripped directly from the campaign setting I've been working on, and the mechanics look great.

I'm just worried that A: the Monster Manual will be as pathetically devoid of fluff as some of the monsters we've seen (swordwings: they COLLECT THINGS! also, they're epic-level challenges for some reason. also also--they can fly, they can't see in the dark, and they're epic enough to live wherever they want--so why do they live far underground?) and B: everything will taste like Eberron (I love the setting, but I would rather it not be the default flavor).

I hate to take away from this so far un-derailed thread, but... what about the half-elves?

Well, I hope that not too many people will pay attention to this post, too, but I think that half-elves got seriously screwed over in the new edition. In 3.5, half-elves - a 'race' that I absolutely love to play - have always been a pretty sub-optimal choice when it came to power level. They weren't really bad, but when you look at the other races, they have a much larger chance at optimisation.
I was hoping that this would change in 4e, but as far I see it, they still get the short end of the stick.

Actually as far as I can tell from the info we have, they don't seem underpowered at all. If one looks at their speculated race abilities they don't seem to be better or worse that most other races.

Half-Elf
Ability Scores: +2 Cha, +2 Any [not Cha twice]
Size: Medium
Speed: 6 squares
Vision: Low-light
Languages: Common, Elven
Skill Bonus: +2 Insight, +2 Diplomacy
Group Diplomacy: Grants allies within 10 squares a +1
bonus to Diplomacy
Bonus Power: ?Chose one At-Will power from a different
class and add it as a Per Encounter power, perhaps only from a
class that shares the same Power Source?

(Taken from the Pre-Release Rules Compilation version 2.2 (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=221806))

In fact, it seems to me that half-elves would make excellent leaders and that they would be a boon in making a multi-class character. It has also been speculated that half elves could take any racial feats that would normally be reserved for humans or elves. These expanded option could actually mean that their power level is actually greater than that of other races.

However, it may be better to wait until the entire system is released before one makes any judgments about the relative power level of any race.

Male, 26-30, detest 4E.

In fact, I plan to celebrate the release of 4th edition by suspending my D&D campaign to run Exalted.

Problem is, that's my DM.

Ah well, he's not ending our campaign. Just suspending it in "celebration" of 4e, and we're going to play exalted, which does look really neat.

A nice spread of numbers with the majority of people leaning towards a favorable attitude.

I would also like to thank everyone for not turning this into another flame war.

I dislike 4e and am 13-17

Closest to option 17, I suppose. It looks okay, but it's a completely different game.

I am male, 18-25, dislike 4e, as for options, option 12(altho for me, purchasing is never really an idea, because I find the SRD perfectly usable).

Dislike, age 30, male.

As for reasons, 18 is the closest match, even though my actual stance is "3E was already an abomination, and 4E is just taking that game one step further in the wrong direction."

I'll be honest:
I dislike 4-E and I'm a 18-25 year old female. Option 14.

I am neutral about 4e and am 13-17

It seems pretty good, I like some stuff, but the stuff i don't like is enough to make me wait

(Actually, the real reason is we play living campaigns in my group. so, we can play LFR and go for 4e, or see what Arcanis is swapping to and play that)

I love scientific research and so I will help out

1) I dislike 4e and am male, 18-25
2) I will not buy it until I have had at least a year to test it out using the SRD. I will almost certainly stick with 3.x

Male 18-25 neutral, option 10.

I like how rogues can now sneak attack undead/constructs, but am displeased at the everely reduced sneak attack damage, among other things.

I dislike 4e and am 18-25, male. Option 14 suits me, I think.

IMHO, they threw in a bunch of unnecessary changes, didn't bother to change even one thing that was wrong in 3.5 (weapon speed, injury system), and the whole deal is just a new ploy to rid us of our money, so I'll probably take a look in SRD just to see if I was right (which, by all accounts so far, I am) and play 3.5 until Pathfinder comes out. In your face, WotC.

Option 12,
The opinion comes mostly from reading forums, reading parts of the stuff and other systems upgrading to 4.x.
Due to my group I'll stick with 3.5 for the next month, otherwise i perhaps would have tried.

Female, 18-25, dislike.

Not quite sure where I fall on the reasons; I'm somewhere between a 19 and a 14. I'm the kind of person who tries to fix systems rather than replacing them, and since I've seen some very good fixes in the last few months, what's the point of moving on?

Part of my beef is that I tend to get to all my hobbies late. I only just got the hang of 3.5, and I'm a little bitter from the last time a game I liked switched editions.

And I know I'm going to get dragged onto it eventually, either for business reasons or because my main group is incapable of seeing a game without immediately jumping into it, which makes me likelier to dig in my heels just on principle.

That and I was less than impressed by what I've heard about the treatment of NPCs, and utterly turned off by the multiclassing rules.
