View Full Version : Crossover Five Man Bands

Perhaps we enjoy pitting characters against one another too much with these versus threads when we should think about how awesome it would be if they teamed up. What would be some awesome five man bands to put together using charactera from any piece of media, any at all?

For people who don't know what a five man band (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveManBand) is...

Try to keep each band's power level roughly equal. A good five man band is one where every member can contribute. No far putting together Charlie Brown and Darth Revan on the same team.

Can we piece five man bands from people who never were part of one?

Can we piece five man bands from people who never were part of one?

Yes.

Though, try to make it believable that the band would actually work together.

Ooo.

The Hero: Gai Daigoji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gai_Daigoji). Because he is so a Hero, and I'll bet he'd kill for a Five Man Band (Or 3 man)
The Lancer: Heero Yuy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heero_Yuy), because his outlook is so opposite. And eminently Lancer-like, at least early on.
The Smart Guy: Roger Smith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_The_Big_O#Roger_Smith), very atypical in terms of visual archetype (He's tall, and can actually throw a punch), but also very analytical of strange situations, and prone to exposition.
The Big Guy: I had to think about this, but Allenby Beardsley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allenby_Beardsley) of G Gundam is suitably violent and smash 'em, and not feminine enough to be The Chick. Probably causes conflicts with Roger, since Roger has a very clearly defined concept of gender roles..
The Chick: Gonna go with one of the classics, Sayaka of Mazinger.
The Sixth Ranger: Ryoma Nagare (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getter_Robo), in his Shin Getter Robo incarnation. Vereh, vereh anti-hero and loner-inclined, comparatively.

...Just because I picked a Five Man Band crossover that actually happened doesn't mean it's bad...

Lemme try my luck at crafting a high powered band...

"It is a time of troubles in AdventureLand. Evil has finally put aside differences and liquidated those Always Chaotic Evil fools who broke alliances. Good has been crushed. Now, only five heroes stand against the forces of Evil and cookies. They are...

The Guns 'N Roses The Supreme Team of Assorted Asskickery! (TSToAA)

TSToAA's members are:

The Hero: Gilgamesh.

The first great adventure has Gilgamesh as the lead. It is him who defined all the heroes to come.

The Lancer: King Arthur

Armed with what is possibly the most powerful sword in all of mythology, and most certainly the most ripped off one, Arthur is the one true king.

The Smart Guy: Elminster/Solo

Wielding arcane magics powerful enough to tear the planes, Elminster joined TSToAA to supply the group with the ability to bang with anyone E. G. wanted him to.

The Big Guy: The Terminator, T-850 series.

Unstoppable is the only way to define The Terminator. He always keeps coming, and now that he has free will after having been freed from Skynet's control, he is more dangerous than ever before.

The Chick: Jean Grey

With immense psychic power and a disgusting tendency to become a Mary Sue, Jean uses her immense powers to help TSToAA achieve victory."

You may tremble now. Sure as hell, I'm doing it and asking myself what have I done.

Criminals beware!

The Hero: Sherlock Holmes. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes) One of the greatest ever, surely Sherlock would make a fine head for this group.
The Lancer: DI William "Jack" Edward Frost. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Frost_%28detective%29) Inspector Frost is not was witty, suave and cunning as some of the others, but he is still a damn good copper and a can think like a true bastard.
The Smart Guy: Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foyle%27s_War#Christopher_Foyle) Obviously the smart guy is a hard post to fill in a group like this but Foyle is really on the high end of smarts and seems to posses a level of common sense and direct thinking that some of the others lack.
The Big Guy: Captain Carrot Ironfounderson. (http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/Captain_Carrot) Score one for the 6th dwarf.
The Chick: Miss Marple. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Marple) Not the traditional chick but remember "when a policeman asks questions he is being a policeman, but when a little old woman asks questions she is just being a little old woman."
The Sixth Ranger. Batman. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman) Doesn't keep in touch every well.

And now, two trends have been set: Overall ass-kickingness, or theme teams? WHO WILL SURVIVE? ...Okay, everyone, as long as we're picking heroes..

Maybe a villainous Five Man Band..

Hmm...

Well,
Mal Reynolds is a decent enough pick for a hero. Honor before reason, multiple applicable skills, and he's the Captain.
Jack Bauer makes a fun Lancer for total disagreements with the hero.
Reed Richards is the best smart guy for tech skills, and he has leadership and face breaking skills too, so there's that.
Hellboy is a decent pick for strong guy. He's completely unkillable unless he wants to die, and he's the beast of the freaking apocolypse. You want him on your side.
For the chick, Squirrel Girl.

A bad group?
Probably yes, but hey. Didn't put too much work into it.

Hero: Zayne Carrick, to always do the right thing
Smart Guy: L, to sit back at HQ being smart
The big guy: Brandon Heat/Beyond the Grave, to kill anything that moves
The Lancer: Roy Fokker, I needed someone who has a mecha
The chick: Ninian, to dance and let 1 person move twice

Web comic mishmash!

The Hero: Captain Targon, Of Schlock Mercenary.
The Lancer: Antimony Carver, Of Gunnerkrigg Court.
The Smart Guy: Tyler Marlocke, Of ps238.
The Big Guy: General Goomblast, Of Girl Genius
The Chick: Elan. Seriously, Elan.
The Team Pet: Pintsize, Of Questionable Content.

(I have weird tastes in characters)

Fictional British Military Officers!

The Hero: Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart.
The Lancer: Admiral Horatio Hornblower
The Smart Guy: Captain Wilson (Dad's army's Sergent Wilson, a Captain in the Artillery in WWI)
The Big Guy: Colonel Richard Sharpe.
The Chick: ??? (although not an officer and I have a dad's army guy allready Private Godfrey will do.)

I got stuck on the chick, to be honest.

Sorry, Dracsin. It's just that most people don't get that and it's the only logical response I could draw from the fact that a) your posts were seven minutes apart, rather than adjacent and b) not only did I post between them, I saw the page with only one of your posts there.

Seeing the lengths you went through to see whether your post went up, I can only conclude that it was
A caching issue in your browser or
The forum server pranking you out of spite

Yeah, I understand, and you don't have to apologize - if anything, I should, for being so confrontational over such a silly issue. It's just that betwen the forum going slow as molassess and me doubleposting already in a couple threads despite precautions, I am starting to get just a tad miffed at the server.

And the seven minute gap is most likely because of the cache problems you mention, now that you mention it. The message was sent, that much is obvious, but when I tried to refresh, it didn't refresh correctly for whatever reason. Blargh. How exactly didn't that occur to me? All this studying physics must be rotting my brain. If you'll excuse me, I'll go clear my cache now.

Still, I wouldn't really be that weirded out if your second idea was true, either. Goddamned technology

Also, I'm pretty sure we already had this conversation, Nerdo, but it's "Drascin" :smalltongue:

League of Asskickery? bah, it's done billions of time

Let's make some League of Moderately Extraordinary Gentlemen!

A five man band composed of b list character and moderately useful sidekick :D

Lessee.... There's great detective already, so here it is the mediocre detective band!

Dr. Watson as the Hero!

Captain Hasting as the Lancer.

Inspector Lestrade as the... uh, aren't there's already someone from the holmes-verse?

Ariadne Oliver, the mystery writer as the chick... but there's also already someone from the poirot-verse.

Maybe... from the Perry Mason Series....

Add Mouri Kogoro from Case Closed/Detective Conan...

Damn, I'm stumped. It's harder than making a five man band of great detectives...

Dang, the electricity went kaput just before I pushed the send button.

To summarize my previous post, what a coincidence since I had this team inside my head.

Sam "Serious" Stone as the Hero. In this line of badass, he just had to be the main hero :D

Max "I have permanent constipation" Payne as the Lancer. He's a perfect lancer material. Dark, brooding, contemplating, cold antihero. And stand in contrast with Sam.

Duke Nukem as the Tough Guy. Just because he remind me on Arnold Swarchznegger.

JC Denton would be the smart guy. Let's just say he picked the hacking skill tree.

Where should we put the Doom Marine and the Wolfenstein Guy? They actually got the Hero vibe, but I've already put Sam as the main hero.

And I can't remember any non-power-armored classic FPS chick. Should it be That suave secret agent from No One Lives Forever? (I forgot her name).

I notice that htis team makes the question "What would Batman do?" sensible.. I'm not sure if that's good or bad...

The JUSTICE! (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KnightTemplar) team.

The Hero:
Warning contains major SMT 2 spoilers:
Zain/"ז"/Satan, chosen by God/YHVH as the messiah to create The Thousand Year Kingdom (where all the just and righteous people will live and the rest will be left to fend for themselves and die); he leads this unholy union (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveBadBand) rag tag bunch of misfits (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RagtagBunchOfMisfits) by the Power Of God (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ReligionIsMagic) Power Of Friendship (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ThePowerOfFriendship?from=Main.PowerOfFriendship).

The Lancer:
The Operative from Firefly. He is the perfect foil for this merry bend by being the only one to doubt if what they are doing is evil (though not necessarily wrong).

The Smart Guy:
Light from Death Note. In addition to being mission control he also never showed his face to the opposition, thus allowing him to walk freely and convert the muggles from within.

Had a bit of a shock when finding who their employer is.

The Big Guy:
Vhailor from Planescape Torment. Is effectively the Juggernaut (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheJuggernaut) and the main bruiser due to his ability to gain enough power to right any injustice he perceives.

The Chick:
Lilith de Tempscire from Discworld, is usually somewhat derided due to not being dedicated with the concept of justice as much as the other members; but still a valuable member due to being a master manipulator of Theory Of Narrative Causality (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheoryOfNarrativeCausality). After all, a happy ending is a just one, right?

Maybe he doesn't object to Batman cursing, but rather to stealing memes from non-Batman sources? Batman's got enough meme of his own, he doesn't have to lower his cool factor by borrowing from others.
Because he's the goddamn Batman!

Well, I'll be making a five man band of guys you underestimate until you notice that they kicked your ass up and down the street, leaving a feeling of "How the hell did that happen?"

The Hero: Edward Elric(Fullmetal Alchemist). Looks just like a regular kid, but he's a master martial artist with inhuman speed, a tough punch/kick with his automail and alchemy

The Lancer: John McClane(Die Hard). Seems to be just a regular cop but he can survive everything a group of terrorists with the budget of a middle-sized country can throw at him. Will often clash with the Hero because Ed doesn't want to kill his enemies while McClane prefers just to shoot them.
Another excellent choice would be Knuckles(Sonic). Would get into hilarious arguments with the Hero because he's actually shorter then Ed. And when you see this cute little thing you wouldn't suspect that his punches hit like freight trains.
I actually wanted Hagen von Tronje for the lancer, but he doesn't fit my concept.

The Smart Guy: Rodney McKay(Stargate Atlantis). You'll hear him from miles away complaining about something really trivial, but this guys brain is a walking deus es machina. Essentially he's Scotty on crack, while it was in Star Trek like
Scotty: "Captain, something like that takes at least a week"
Kirk: "Scotty, I give you three hours"
Scotty "I'll make it in two"
Rodney jumps from impossible/takes several years to "I'll do it in 10 minutes. In bad light, without equipment and under enemy fire" when he's hardpressed.

The Big Guy: The Luggage(Discworld)
....
What? So, it's not particularly big, but it will eat anything that looks funny at it or its posessor for breakfeast. The wizards of an entire continent threw everything they've got at it and it didn't stop. It's unstoppable, terrifying once you realise what it is and it "looks" at you and can seemingly devour endless amounts of matter. Plus, having clean laundry with you is never wrong.

The Chick: Lyra Belacqua(His Dark Materials). Yeah, not much of a fighter, but she could keep the group together and the Alethiometer will offer helpful insight in all possible situations. Will often clash with McKay because he regards the Alethiometer as unscientific occult rubbish. I imagine her as the posessor of the Luggage.
Another possibility is Sussanah Dean(Dark Tower series), being a cripple helps with being underestimated.

So, I have a group of 2 kids, an everyday guy/a humanoid echidna, a blabbermouth tripping over his own feet and a wooden chest. Nobody would expect how much awesome is coming their way on 8 and a couple hundred feet.

Okay, after much boredom today, I have a couple of ideas.

Final Fantasy All-Stars!

The Hero: Zidane Tribal (FFIX). A traditional upbeat fantasy hero with a surprising amount of characterization, even if he set my teeth a bit on edge when I played as him. Picked for the Hero spot because unlike most of his competition, he doesn't need a swift punch in the mouth, and he is still useful in combat. Fills the Thief and a Physical Attacker spot gameplaywise.

The Lancer: Celes Chere (FFVI). Alright, I'm a fanboy. Aside from that, Celes brings practicality and experience to the team, not to mention kickass physical attacker and Red Mage skills.

The Big Guy: Zell Dincht (FFVIII). Not the biggest or the baddest bruiser in Final Fantasy, but damn if he doesn't rock. Fills the last physical attacker/tank spot with his overpowered Limit Break.

The Smart Guy: Tellah (FFIV). Only a spoony bard would not pick this guy. Fills the Black Mage position...when he can manage to get enough MP.

The (Staff) Chick: Aeris Gainsborough (FFVII). Gets the spot due to being the only Staff Chick from Final Fantasy I can stand. White Mage (or Red Mage, due to how Materia works, but her Limits are healing/defense-oriented).

I'm rather proud of this team. It's a viable party, and they're all from different games. If I wasn't concerned about that, I'd probably have FFVII Cid as my Smart Guy. I'd have also considered Cecil for my Hero, but I figure he's too similar to Celes. Celes stays because she's awesome.

Say, having Tellah and Aeris on this team gives me another idea:

The Hero: General Leo
The Lancer: Auron
The Big Guy: Galuf
The Smart Guy: Tellah
The Staff Chick: Aeris
They die. Or start off that way in Auron's case.

Hero: Lt. Commander Shepard. I second this choice whole-heartedly.
Lance: Marcus (Gears of War) It's obvious why he is a foil for Shepard but also oh so badass.
Big Guy: Briareos of Appleseed. Why him?...He's a cyborg for one and a damn big /strong one as well.
Smart Guy: Dr. J from Gundam Wing. Any guy who had a hand in developing a PLOT cannon is obviously smart. Combine that with upgrading the other team-members tech and you might have a whole team of PLOT weaponry.
Chick: Samus Aran. Any chick that is NOT Samus Aran shall eventually be destroyed in battle.

Why does this team kick so much arse? Damn easy to see. Especially after Dr. J is done tinkering.

So, after giving it some more thought tonight here is my next team

The Uchiha Art of Run
Why fight your enemies when you can just run away? After all, getting stronger just by killing everything coming your way only works in RPGs. Being scared of everything except yourself is a factor too.

The Hero: Rincewind(Discworld). Come on, like anybody else fits the role better.
The Lancer: Super Sonic(doh). He's an antithesis to the hero because he uses running to fight his enemies, not to get as much distance as possible between them and yourself, which is totally crazy in Rincewinds philosophy.
The Big Guy: Lennie(Of Mice and Men). Strong like a bull, mind like a child. Didn't even fight back when someone attacked him until George told him to. Of course, his teammates would have to tell him to run too.
The Smart Something. V(OotS) when hir only spell left is expedious retreat.
The Chick: There are hundreds of girls who soil their pants as soon as they see so much as a spider and still for some reason or the other travel with a dangerattracting hero. Pick one
The Pet: Roadrunner or Speedy Gonzales. Hm, I prefer the first. meep meep
The Tagalong Kid: Any Imperial Guardsman without a commisar arround

They wouldn't win any serious fight, ever, but it would be hella fun to watch them.

But well, now for a strong team

The Hero: Ultramarine
The Lancer: Imperial Fist
The Big Guy: Space Wolf
The Smart Guy: Dark Angel
The Chick: A Sororitas. She's just there to serve cookies after each mission is fast and brutally accomplished.

Seriously, with all the late Space Marine obsession I wonder why nobody came up with this yet.
Yes, I could make a way stronger team with The Emperor as Hero, pre-heresy Horus as Lancer, Leman Russ as the Pet and the remaining places filled with fitting primarchs, but that would be insane

And if anybody thinks right now about making a band of the Chaos gods with Horus as the pet I will hunt them down

But.. but Dr McNinja IDOLIZE Batman. It'd be like... well, if you put Elvis' poster everywhere in your room, and you're a starting rock and roll artist. Then suddenly someone put Elvis and you in the same band... Well, not really a good comparison, but adequate

That's one of the points. Just like making half of the team sneaksters and the other half kick-the-door characters.

Also, another five-man band. This time a very peculiar one...

The Hero: Eragon
The Lancer: Young Werther
The Smart Guy: Lee Linjun (from Super Robot Wars)
The Big Guy: Scrappy-Doo
The Chick: Wilhelmina Scott (from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom)

No, the theme is "made of suck".

You haven't seen Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Heresy, do so right now. It might be the weakest from the trilogy (and got the most annoying tagalong female character ever) but still very fun to watch.

And Werther is from this book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sorrows_of_Young_Werther). Hamlet might have beat him for the title of original emo due to being first, but Werther beats the crap out of him in terms of intensity and lack of cause for his emoness.

Funny, I imagined her as the Chick for my Art of Run band, but didn't recall the name. And from what I remember she's more a standing still, screaming and waiting to be rescued type than a runner

Rutee! I've got an SRW Five Bad Band to counter your first entry in here.

The Big Bad: Spiral King Lord Genome (Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann) (unit: Lazengann). Necessarily Evil (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NecessarilyEvil) and loving it.
The Lancer: Kaworu Nagisa (Neon Genesis Evangelion) (unit: whatever he can Evajack). Nigh Invulnerable (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NighInvulnerability) White-haired Pretty Boy (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhiteHairedPrettyBoy) Ensemble Darkhorse (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EnsembleDarkhorse) Jesus metaphor (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WhatDoYouMeanItsNotSymbolic)? What else could you want in a sidekick?
The Evil Genius: Dr. Shu Shirakawa (unit: Granzon). Okay, I cheated and used a Banpresto Original. But Shu's just that cool (also, 90% of mecha mad scientists seem to work for the good guys.)
The Brute: Ali al-Saachez (Mobile Suit Gundam 00) (unit: Enact Custom, upgrade to Gundam Throne Zwei). I only know this man by reputation, but it's one hell of a reputation.
The Dark Action Girl: Haman Karn (UC Mobile Suit Gundam) (unit: Qubeley). Join Neo-Zeon. We have cake.

Note: This team has an 70% probability of actually being anti-heroes in some fashion, and/or Heel-Face Turning. That is, everyone except Ali and Haman has a 100% chance of this, and even she is about 50/50. Those two would be pretty dangerous all by themselves, though...

THE LANCER: Samuel Vimes. For the shining knight in armor, he is the perfect, does-not-want-to-be-knight in dirty armor counterpart
THE SMART GUY: The G-Man Just because I want to see him and Vimes interact.
THE BIG GUY: The Heavy, from Team Fortress 2, without his gun, for power issues
THE ACTION GIRL: Tomb Raider. THE action Girl

The Saviors (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheMessiah)
The Hero: Immortal Emperor of Mankind (Warhammer 40,000). He launched the Great Crusade to liberate humanity from both their human and alien oppressors and to unite Mankind as one. As the incarnation of all of humanity's (on his Earth) Shamans, the Emperor is among the most psychicly powerful creatures in his universe. He held back the forces of Chaos with his might, the Imperial Guard, the Space Marines and his own clones/sons the Primarchs. Sadly he was betrayed and mortally wounded by his Warmaster and one of his twenty sons, Primarch Horus and his Empire turned into an oppressive theocracy. Now all anyone else has to do his break into the Emperor's Throne Room and heal him back to health. Doesn't sound that hard, right? It's harder than that.

The Lancer: Kurosaki Ichigo (Bleach). Half-Hallow Soul Reaper. Saved his friend Rukia from an unjust, albeit perfectly legal execution, knowing it could cost him his own life.

The Big Guy: Captain Carrot Ironfounderson (Discworld). He's one of the most noble and purest members of Anhk-Morpork's Night Watch. That and he drove a sword through a fully grown man and a stone pillar.

The Smart Guy: The Tenth Doctor (Doctor Who). A complete and utter genius and the savior of mankind on numerious occaisions. Slightly eccentric and likes sweets.

The (Staff) Chick: Aerith Gainsborough (FF VII). She's reasonably intelligent, kindhearted, independent minded and the only Final Fantasy Staff Chick that can pull her weight and isn't annoying. She's dead, but with the Hallowed Darkness group, this guys might be able to fix that.

The Sixth Ranger: Agatha Heterodyne (Girl Genius). Only known living heir to the Heterodyne dynasty and potent Spark (read as mad scientist) in her own right. Tough beautiful, highly intelligent and very good at violence when needed. As heir to the Heterodynes, Agatha is her world's best hope to return to the glory days of the Heterodyne Boys, when Europe was peacefully ruled by her father Bill and her uncle Barry. Both Heterodyne Boys were (or still are) heroic mad scientsts. Mad science just runs in her family and on both sides.

The Mentor: Death (Discworld). How many times did this guy put his own existance at risk to save the world and individual people? Five times I think.

The Team Pets: Binky (Death's horse) (Discworld), the Grim Squeaker (Death of Rats) (Discworld), the TARDIS (Doctor Who), Emperor Krosp I (Girl Genius) and Appa and Momo (Avatar: the Last Airbender).

The Ravagers (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveBadBand)
The Big Bad: Xykon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xykon) (Order of the Stick. Need (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0095.html) I say (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0448.html) more? (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0459.html) I supose not. He commits horrific acts of cruelty and brutality while on his way to conquering his own world. Just because it's "badass".

The Dragon: Sephiroth (FF VII). Criminally insane genius (though not as smart as his fanboys and fangirls think he is), super solder, has great magical power, a rediculously huge katana, is an utter psychopath and is delusional enough to think of Jenova as his mother. He actually believes that he is the last of the Cetra, even though he murdered the real last Cetra, Aerith Gainsborough. He should have his pretty boy face introduced to the business end of a sledgehammer.

The Brute: The Kurgan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Kurgan) (Highlander). A ruthless and brutal warrior from Eastern Russia, off the coast of the Caspian Sea, the Kurgan is well trained and savage combatant. Around 3,000 years-old, the Kurgan served as a Persian mercenary in their wars with the ancient Greek city states. His immortal side was awoken by his own father, who crushed the Kurgan's skull in with a rock while drunk. The Kurgan recovered, heated said rock and force fed it to his father. His hobbies are rape, pillage, despoiling holy sites, playing chicken with unsuspecting drivers, running over pedestrians and forcing dogs and children to fight to the death for a bit of raw meat.

The Evil Scientist: Fabius Bile (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Fabius_Bile) (Warhammer 40,000). A demon worshipping mad scientst who wears a lab coat made from human flesh. He created the Noise Marines (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Emperor%27s_Children#Post-Heresy_2).

The Dark Action Girl: Bangladesh DuPree (http://girlgenius.wikia.com/wiki/Bangladesh_DuPree) (Girl Genius). An ex-air pirate who's hobbies include torture, maiming and murder. Her ultimate goal is to regain control of her family's pirate empire and punish those who betrayed her mother. Will do her best to ingore any order that doesn't increase the odds of her killing someone else.

The Sixth Ranger: The Joker (Dark Knight Trilogy). To be filled out at a later date.

The Mentor: Randall Flagg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randall_Flagg) (The Stand and various other Steven King novels). He can kill birds and give men prostrate cancer by just smiling at them. Flagg can also kill a human sized enemy by making an inverted sign of the cross at them. Oh, and he's an Anti-Christ figure. Isn't it obvious?

Hallowed Darkness (http://"http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkIsNotEvil")
The Hero: The Shadow (the Shadow radio broadcasts and pulps). Well trained in stealth and versed in the same tactics as the criminals he fights he is a terror to unjust. In addition the Shadow has the power to project his voice using a supernaturally enhanced form of ventriloquism and render himself invisible by clouding his enemies minds. That and his laugh (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main.EvilLaugh).

The Lancer: Batman (Batman). He's a genius who pushed himself to achieve mental and physical perfection. Mister Wayne is a master of stealth and as he says, "Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot."

The Big Guy: Hellboy (Hellboy). Big, red and physically powerful, Hellboy is a force to be reckoned with. Born to unleash the Ogdru Jahad, Hellboy has turned away from his unholy destiny to defend humanity. His true name is Anung un Rama meaning "Red Hand of Doom".

The Smart Guy/Chick: Doctor Byron Orpheus (Venture Brothers). He's a supremely moral man and a master necromancer to boot. What's not to like about him? While I know Doctor Orpheus is male he fits the role of the Chick better than Raven. Much better in fact.

The Action Girl: Raven (Teen Titans). She tough, rather smart and is capable of manipulating shadow and darkness as a weapon, for defense and as a means of telekenisis. Okay, she can heal too, but that's not her main function. Raven was born to unleash Hell upon Earth, but turned away from path.

The Sixth Ranger: Vinny Doombats (Erfworld). Unambigiously good, highly moral, loyal to his friends and seeks only to protect the innocent from harm. Sadly one of his friends (not included in this band) is a selfrighteous megolomanic (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KnightTemplar) with a short temper and an unwillingness to listen to and take advice. Also, Vinny is a vampire. Just try to top that.

The Tag Along Kid: Adam Young (Good Omens). Bright, cheerful, extroverted, charismatic, kind, compassionate and merciful towards all, Adam Young is the ideal child. He's an eleven year-old boy with golden-blond hair and warm friendly eyes. He can protect any small town to large city that he becomes attached to. In addition Adam can increase speed of plant growth as well as the size of plants. What's so dark about him, you say? He's the intended Anti-Christ. He could get along with Aerith though. He wouldn't like any of the Ravagers, especially Xykon and Sephy boy. He'd dislike the Purifiers too. His titles are The Adversary, Destroyer of Kings, Angel of the Bottomless Pit, Great Beast that is called Dragon, Prince of this World, Father of Lies, Spawn of Satan and Lord of Darkness. He's a really nice kid though.

The Team Pet: Dog (http://"http://wiki.lspace.org/wiki/Dog") (Good Omens). Adam Young's pet hellhound.

I just had a really silly idea...

Hero: The First Doctor (Calm refined and a bit grumpy, contrasts well with:)
Lancer: The Tenth Doctor (Often manic and almost always cheery)
Big Guy: The Sixth Doctor (Well not big, but he was probably the most violent)
Smart Guy: The Seventh Doctor (He was never smarter)
Chick: The Fifth Doctor (Mostly because I really want him in this. OK, um, he is more reserved and lacking in confidence there we are...)

Big Bad: The Master
Dragon: The Veilyard
Big Guy: The Warlord
Evil Genius: The Rani
Chick: The Meddling Monk.

Hero: Ciaphas Cain, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!!!
Lancer: La'Kais, the Tau Fire Warrior who took on the Ultramarines and the Word Bearers (up to Daemon Princes) and survived on his first day.
Smart Guy: Gordon Freeman, emotionally dead mute, (apparently) highly skilled scientist and murderer of many a soldier of the Combine.
Big Guy: Brock Samson, the Swedish Killing Machine and the mook's worst nightmare.
Chick: Revy, trigger-happy mercenary/pirate whose bloodlust knows no bounds.

Hero: Eragon, idiotic sociopathic Gary Stu.
Lancer: Thief, Ninja Elf who wishes to exploit everybody and commit genocide upon dwarves.
Smart Guy: Rusty Venture, amoral scientist who seemingly is only capable of frustration and hatred.
Big Guy: Captain Hero, Dog Rapist (figuratively and likely literally) whose goal seems to essentially be to sex up/rape everything/anything he sees.

The Hero: The God Emperor of Mankind
(for His ability to ****blammo! your soul with his mind. Also a good leader, because, well, how do you think he got to be the Emperor?)

The Lancer: Leto II, aka The God Emperor of Mankind
(good lancer because he fills much the same role as the Emperor in his home setting, and the whole "Is a 200 foot long Human/Worm Hybrid who can alter his metabolism at will and foretell the future with stupid accuracy on a God-Like time line" will piss off the Emperor.)

The Smart Guy: The Emperor Palpatine
(An arch political schemer in a group full of arch political schemers, plus having a group full of people who all respond to "Emperor" amuses me.)

The Big Guy: Emperor Megatron
(maybe not his official title but you can't tell me he wouldn't answer to it, doubles as a sixth ranger, because he's f-ing Megatron!)

The Chick: Baba Yaga
(The Chick is there to provide contrast, and she does, if only by being the only one in the group who doesn't immediatley respond to the name "Emperor ____, but still perfectly capable of ruining your **** if need be.)

Other than McClane, that is one of the most underestimatable groups ever. Adding Squirrel Girl is the only way to 1-up it I can think of.

Doh, how could I forget allmighty Squirrelgirl, she really fits the Underestimatable bill. Still, I won't include her because Lyra has better interaction with the rest of the group(arguing with the only adult McKay as said).
And most importantly: she's not only the chick, she's a child. A girl. A non-anime/manga girl, so her combat abilities are practically zero. Narrative causality dictates(ask Elan, he knows about this stuff) that she's bound to be captured by the bad guys over and over again. That's where the Luggage comes into play. It can track it's posessor anywhere, even metaphysical places like Deaths realm or the inside of a book. The only time it couldn't was when they were in that dimension hopping magic shop, I'm not sure if it didn't know where they were or if it didn't try because they were switching location too fast.
So you captured Lyra. Well, congratulations, now I know where you live and when you least expect it the Luggage will come burst through your wall(in the troll cave/mouth it broke through massive diamond) and have it's way with you

That's not a five man band, that's a small but very noisy orgy.

Well, now

The Band to End all Bands
Phoenix? The Emperor of Mankind? Emperor this - Emperor that? These guys show you what real power means.

The Hero: a kitten. Just because having a simple kitten as the leader of the most powerful group ever is just too awesome and will get me the odd uservote. Plus, it can even defeat a commoner
The Lancer: Nobody. Opposes. The. Kitten.
The Big Guy: The Game/Dungeon Master(universal). When he says this works then it works. When he says this happens then it happens whatever physics, logic, narrative causality and any previous of his statements say. When he doesn't like what your doing he just kills you with falling rocks. Essentially the DM is THE suppreme allpowerful being within the system until you start throwing dice at him when it gets ridiculous.
The Smart Gals: The Nornir(Norse mythology) or the Parcae(Roman mythology). Knowing past, present and future, so basically everything? And controlling the life and fate of every being, a power that makes even the gods tremble before you? Done.
The Chick: The Lady(Discworld). As every RPGer can confirm having luck on your side is often more useful than the most broken build. With a 1 in 20 chance you can make amazing stuff, now imagine a 1 in a million chance(or way better, some of the deus ex machina that safed Rincewind must the in the trillions). What, so Batman with his ridiculous plot no jutsu found a way to counter practical omnipotence(DM) and omniscience(Nornir)? Well, then I must inform you that Bats just slips on a banana, his banana-repellent spray malfunctions(yes, both of them) and he breaks his neck. Bummer

Bummer

Wow.

It's the team every Min-Maxed munchin was built to defeat. Only one or two succeed.

Pun-Pun can beat that team.

Hmm, how about a *mostly* non-physical, yet still stupidly powerful, band?

(The Chick is there to provide contrast, and she does, if only by being the only one in the group who doesn't immediatley respond to the name "Emperor ____, but still perfectly capable of ruining your **** if need be.)

okay, this win.

The Lancer: Leto II, aka The God Emperor of Mankind

Which Emperor ?

The Big Bad Badass Longcoats:

The Hero: Roland of Eld
(In a group with him as the hero... well, just think how dark and broody the lancer will have to be :smallamused:)

The Lancer: The Patron Saint of Killers
(If you need to out GRIM/DARK Roland, the only choice is the man who put a bullet in GOD's head and then slept soundly on the freaking thrown of heaven.)

The Smart Guy: Revolver Ocelot
(Do I really need to explain? He reinvented the double cross and makes most double/triple/what in god's name side are you on??? spies look like rank amateurs.)

The Big Guy: The Man With No Name aka "Blondie"
(If you object, watch the man with no name trilogy, and then shut up.)

The Chick: Alucard
(Well, at one point Red here was a girl, although that has more to do with Khota Hirano being insane then anything else... Also, he wears bright red and uses a pair of what only the most generous call "handguns" and the sane call "Field Artillery")

You mean the five Doctors and five enemies of the Doctor, including a possible evil version of him? Not bad at all. Now how do my Five Man Bands look? I just expanded them quite a bit.

Um, pray tell how Pun Pun is supposed to defeat the freakin' DUNGEONMASTER? It would go something like this

DM: All right, did you bring your characters?
Player: Yeah, I got a kobold with a snake familiar. His name is, um, Pom-Pom.
DM: ... Right. Rocks fall, you die.
P: What? But how? I mean I have a gazillion HP, 101% misschance and my reflex save is in the billions...
DM: I said rocks fall, you die.
P: ... I even have an ex ability that makes me immune to falling rocks, debris and bridges...
DM: DEAD! Here are three d6, now roll a level 1 half-orc monk, you're gonna play that for a long time.
P: Aw man.
DM: All right, I'll be fair, you can make it a samurai instead if you want to.

Win

Now for my fourth, and maybe final Five Man Band.

The Purifiers (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/KnightTemplar)
The Big Bad: Ras al Ghul (Batman). As head of the League of Assassins his final goal is to drastically reduce the human population both for enviromental and rebuild what he percieves as a "truly moral society".

The Dragon: Supreme Grand Master Azrael, Chapter Master of the Dark Angels (Warhammer 40,000). Genocidal Space Marine who desires to exterminate all non-humans. Would like to grab Aerith and either throtle her, snap her neck, break her back on his knee or burn her at the stake for being a "xenos witch". He'd also try to kill the Doctor for being an alien too. Not that his own Immortal Emperor of Mankind would let him get within 50' of those two without the Supreme Grand Master getting killed off before he can do any harm.

The Brute: Othar Tryggvassen, Gentleman Adventurer (Girl Genius). Strong, highly durable, with a genius level intellect and as mad as a hatter, Othar is the supreme hero-mad scientist of his world. Unfortunately he's a hero only in the classical sense, a glorious freak capable of great feats of skill and violence. Othar views himself as hero under the modern difintion of the word. His ultimate goal is the death of all Sparks, including himself. Poses the highest risk of a heel face turn.

The Evil Genius: Light Yagami (Death Note). He's a master of the Xanatos Gambit (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/XanatosGambit) and Xanatos Roulette. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/XanatosRoulette?from=Main.TheXanatosRoulette) His goal is to kill all the evil people in the world. He should start with himself, but he views himself to be the epitome of all good.

The Dark Chick: Lilith de Tempscire (Discworld). Fairy godmother who believes that every thing she does is good, just because she's a fairy godmother. Infamous for her abuse of the Law of Narrative Causuality.

The Sixth Ranger: The Operative (Serenity). A highly trained and brutal agent for the Allience the Operative's goal is to create a world without sin. He recognizes himself to be evil but believes that he must behave like the monster he calls himself for the greater good. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NecessarilyEvil)

Now, how would my four little Five Man Bands get along with each other. Also, how would each mamber get along with his or her co-members.

The Good:

The Hero: Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrot_Ironfoundersson). Is there anyone more good and pure and, well, heroic? As well as being able to prod serious buttock, I mean.

The Lancer: Harry Dresden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_dresden). His smartass, gritty but ultimately good personality will clash well with Carrot. Plus, he has awesome magic powers.

The Smart Guy: Morte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morte#Mortimer_.22Morte.22_Rictusgrin). Certified Chaotic Good, plus he's vastly knowledgeable and although you may think a floating skull wouldn't be a good combatant, if he gets in a fight he will bite people's faces off.

The Big Guy: Hellboy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellboy). Yes, he looks evil, but he's good underneath the red skin.

The Chick: Lirael (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lirael_%28character%29#Lirael), from the Abhorsen series. Useful for her skills as a necromancer and 'remembrancer' (she can see into the past).

Team Pet: The Disreputable Dog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lirael_%28character%29#The_Disreputable_Dog). Lirael's talking pet/companion.

The Bad:

The Big Bad: Jon Irenicus, from Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Irenicus). One of the best villains in gaming history, and really, really nasty.

The Dragon: Mr Jonathan Teatime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Teatime#Mr_Teatime). Creepy, psychopathic assassin. With disturbing eyes.

The Chessmaster: Hannibal Lecter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannibal_lecter). Is an out-and-out Magnificent Bastard.

The Brute: Gregor Clegane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregor_Clegane#Gregor_Clegane), of the A Song of Ice and Fire series. Very evil, and over seven feet tall.

The Dark Action Girl: Azula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azula). She's manipulating this team to her own will. And she can shoot fire from her fingertips.

And the Morally Ambiguous:

The Hero: Bartimaeus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartimaeus_%28Bartimaeus_trilogy%29) - from the Bartimaeus Trilogy, funnily enough. A snarky 5000-year-old djinni.

The Lancer: Severus Snape (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severus_Snape). Has magic skillage and jerkass tendencies.

The Smart Guy: Lord Havelock Vetinari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vetinari), who is, of course, the one who's really in charge of this team. And all the other teams. Plus, he has badass assassin skillz.

The Big Guy: Zaraki Kenpachi. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaraki_Kenpachi) Is only in it for the fighting.

The Chick: Hester Shaw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hester_Shaw). This scarred (mentally and physically) girl from the Mortal Engines series makes the perfect addition to the team.

I like to think that these three bands all co-exist and have epic battles. Actually, it all rather makes me want to write a fanfic about them.

I am annoyed that you have used the good Dresden before me, but I have a different spot for him: in this modern magic-users five-man band, he's very much the hero.

The Hero: Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden (Dresden Files)
The Lancer: John Constantine (John Constantine: Hellblazer)
The Smart Guy: Dr. Stephen Strange (Marvel)
The Big Guy: Kingsley Shacklebolt (Harry Potter)
The chick: Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

It seems to work for me.

They're magic, they're large and in charge and they have pointy hats! Ladies and gents, the Seriously Powerful Fantasy Wizards.

Hero: Merlin. Illusion and shapechaing are frequently referenced powers. A slightly showy kingmaker.
Lancer: Gandalf the Grey. Far more reclusive in his use of magic.
Smart Guy: Dumbledore. Headmaster of Hogwarts and certainly one of the sharper knives in the drawer.
Big Guy: Archchancellor Mustrum Ridcully the Brown. Just as dangerous with the staff as the magic that comes out of the knob on the end. Bloody good with a crossbow.
Chick (in some peoples eyes) / Sixth Ranger (in the eyes of others)::vaarsuvius:

MEDIC!

The ultimate come one come all surgical team required!

Hero: Hawkeye Pierce
Lancer: House. Need I say more?
Smart guy: Doctor Watson, Sherlock Holmes' life long friend he provides valuable specialist medical knowledge and has trained with the best detective around.
Big guy: :durkon:
Chick: Doctor Katherine Pulaski, of the USS Enterprise.

The Hard Ones (http://"http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Badass")
The Hero: Night Watch Commander Samuel Vimes (Discworld). Tough, principled, scary as hell and skilled at fighting dirty. He was possessed by the Summoning Dark and either drove it out or destroyed it through sheer force of will.

The Lancer: Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden (Harry Dresden novels). While Vimes is known for his strong dislike of magic he does have a good relationship with wizards. He’d really get along rather well with Dresden then. Harry Dresden is a wizard P.I. with a strong sense of morality, great skill in magic (including Hellfire and Soulfire) and non-magical combat, especially with guns. Harry also possess the same detective skills as Sam Vimes does. He also has the archangel Uriel backing him up. Also, at one point Harry necromanticaly animated Sue (the T-Rex skeleton in the Chicago Museum of Natural History) and rode it out against an army of necromancers and the undead. I wonder what Xykon and Sephy boy would have to say about that.

The Big Guy: John McLane (Die Hard movies). Do I really need to go into any further detail on this guy? He shot and killed one his of main enemies while he was that man’s prisoner. In fact, McLane shot through his own shoulder to kill the bad guy, while he was still tied up. He also took out a helicopter with a car when he ran out of bullets and killed a highly skilled martial artist with the same car.

He also outsmarted a well educated and highly intelligent German thug and gang. He killed each and every single one of them by himself.

The Big Guy #2: Toph Bei Fong (Avatar: the Last Airbender). At the young age of 12, Toph mastered earthbending in spite of her over protective parents by learning from the Badgermoles. She defeated such big name Earth Rumble stars as the Boulder and achieved a win-loss record of 42-0. Toph also invented metalbending by manipulating the impurities in metal. Oh, Toph is also blind. And she's a little girl no taller than 4'6".

The Smart Guy: Baron Klaus Wulfenbach (Girl Genius). Klaus’s chief benefit to this part would be his knowledge of science and his ability invent new devices and massively improve upon the technological works of others. In addition, Klaus is a tremendously skilled fighter who marches out to battle with his troops any time he has the chance. This is true even when he’s almost entirely paralyzed. He brings Castle Wulfenbach (http://girlgenius.wikia.com/wiki/Castle_Wulfenbach) and his loyal minions with him.

The Chick (you know this group is hardcore if Tifa's The Chick): Tifa Lockhart (FF VII). Very strong and highly trained martial artist. During an adrenaline fueled rage Tifa once wrestled Spehiroth’s sword (named Masumane) and tried to cut his head off with it after the pretty boy psycho murdered her friend Aerith. Pair her up with Toph and watch Sephy boy go down like a ton of bricks. She's generally calm, thoughtful, patient and wise. She's also a kind, if sarcastic motherly figure, acting as the Team Mom (http://"http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TeamMom").

Sixth Ranger: Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly and Serenity). Former solder against the Allience and currently a smugler Mal has a working understanding the criminalmind , his own and others. He's a skilled combatant (but not in a fist fight), especially with guns and possesses a good understanding of standard infantry tactics, which is why he makes up his own. He brings along the Serenity and its remaining crew (Inara Serra, Kaylee, Simon Tam, River Tam, Zoe Washbourne and Jayne Cobb).

The New SOS Brigade!

Hero: Haruhi Suzimiya. She's a ridiculously talented and charismatic Japanese schoolgirl who is also the ultimate fangirl. She hits, she runs, she believes in Aliens, Sliders, and Time Travel, she can execute a flying drop-kick that would put any pro wrestler to shame, and oh, did I mention, she's GOD?

The Lancer: Riddick. Highly intelligent, highly skilled, highly dangerous. Put him ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE, without any resources to speak of, and he'll be running the place within a day. And by tomorrow, he'll have figured out a way off-planet.

Only problem is, if you look up "stubborn" in the dictionary, you'll find this goggle-wearing mug staring you in the face...and probably about to go for the sweet spot.
The Smart Guy: Kisuke Urahara. Mr. "Hat and Clogs" is a bit of a wild-card, but he's got an excellent sense of strategy, and easily one of the most deadly opponents you'd ever face.

The Big Guy: Hellboy. Not only does he have supernatural strength and resilience, he's more than capable of using his brain in combat, which automatically puts him at the head of the pack...well ok, Smart Hulk would be better, but with far less personality.

The Chick: Ace (her given name is Dorothy, but who remembers that?). Former companion to The Doctor (yes, that one), Ace is spirited, intelligent, and resourceful, as well as no slouch in a fight (she took out a Dalek with a ROCKET LAUNCHER. It's hard to get more badass than that). However, she's also a bit of a loose cannon, given her love of explosives.

The Sixth Ranger: Alucard. Not only is he an immortal, badass gunslinger with a chip on his shoulder, but he's also ALL-POWERFUL! Normally, he'd be of little use, but this group is guaranteed to entertain...which is all the motivation the No-Life King would need.

The Mystery Men:

Mystery crime solving, Supernatural hunting and general stopping of things that go "Bump" in the night...

The Hero: Mick St. John, from Moonlight
The Lancer: Gabriel Van Helsing, from the movie
The Big Guy: Hellboy
The Smart Guy: Harry Dresden, from Jim Butcher's books (not the TV series)
The Chick: Anita Blake, from Laurell K Hamilton's books*

* Please PLEASE note that this is the early version of her, before the books descended into badly written pr0n. I can honestly say I liked the first 3-4 books.

First we have the Knights of Justice
The Hero: Carrot Ironfoundersson (Discworld)
The ultimate good guy, a king who refuses to be crowned because he can do more for the city as a watchman. Pure of heart, logical of mind and strong of arm. Will always take people alive if possible but there are exceptions for the truly dangerous. Always sees both sides of any argument, always sees the best in people and when his girlfriend is dognapped/runs off he informs the proper authorities… then gives chase. Lawful Good as it truly should be, a paladin in all but class levels. If you do not know all of this go read some Discworld books.
The Lancer: Miko Miyazaki (OOTS)
Given you are on this board I wouldn’t think I need to say anything for this.
Miko would have her powers returned but would have to be magically bound to the others to prevent her from truing to kill them and so she follows orders.
Thought about using Arthas Menethil (Warcraft) before he fell to the Scourge as he has the same overzealous “ALL EVIL MUST BE CLENSED” attitude. Both of them fall into Lawful Stupid.
The Big Guy: Druss the Legend (David Gemmell)
Druss is the embodiment of virtue, courage, honour, chivalry and strength of character, he never dose evil (despite carrying a demonic weapon for a long time) nor will he allow evil to be done in his presents. He is also awesome to the nth-degree. At the age of 60 (in a time when you were lucky to see 40) he was still one of the best warriors alive (or dead). He has killed daemons, in the mortal realm and beyond, he has literally fought his was through hell!
I did consider Uther the Lightbringer (Warcraft) for he is much the same but I think I prefer the ultimate badass normal to divine power. Also Druss never lost, even when they finally killed him he won.
The Smart Guy: Aragorn (LotR)
From the book not the horribly rendered (but still awesome) film. Only using him because I cannot think of sword swinger that fit’s the trope and he at least usually knows what he is doing, if you can think of someone better I would love to know.
The Chick: Adelbert Steiner (FFIX)
Again hard to find a sword swinger to fit this so suggestions are welcome.

Ok enough with the long winded explanations time to just have some random ideas

Next we have Ridiculously Powerful Brigade
The Hero: Yoh Asakura (Shaman King)
The Lancer: Brother-Captain Stern (Warhammer 40K, Using the version from the background rather than the in game stats)
The Big Guy: Alucard (Hellsing)
The Smart Guy: Kain (Legacy of Kain: defiance)
The Chick: Hayate Yagami (Nanoha StrikerS)

Now for Cowardice is the better part of survival
The Hero: Ciaphas Cain (Warhammer 40K)
The Lancer: Grey seer Thanquol (Warhammer)
The Smart Guy: Rincewind (Discworld)
The Big Guy: The Luggage (Discworld)
The Chick: Ron Stoppable (Kim possible)

And lastly A better question is whose side are you on?
The Hero: Xanatos (Gargoyles)
The Lancer: Havelock Vetinari (Discworld)
The Smart Guy: The Doctor (Dr. Who)
The Big Guy: Granny Weatherwax (Discworld)
Team Pet: You (Granny’s cat) (Discworld)
And I challenge anyone to find someone who could fit the chick position.

More crossover bands of mine. How do they look?

The Conquerers
The Big Bad: Mister Saxon A.K.A. Master No. Six (Doctor Who). This guy wormed his way into the Brittish government after the fall of PM Harriet Jones as the Defense Minister and married Lucy Cole after she met him during a book signing for his autobiography, even though he just got to Earth. Then, using his office as the Brittish Minster of Defense, the Master set up the Archangel network obstensibly to provide for easy internet and cell phone use for the world, chiefly for the UK.

The Master then used the Archangel network to sway the electoret and won office as Prime Minister of the UK. He then gassed his own Parliament to death, conquered the world using his Toclofane and ordered them to kill 600,000,000 people, while he and his wife danced to Voodoo Child (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FwEQKiMmLA). He also plotted this mass murder of his while watching the Teletubbies.

The Dragon: Prince Vlad Dracula (real life). Warrior prince of Walachia in Romania, Vlad ruled with an iron fist and 15 foot stakes that he impailed his enemies and their families upon. When he first rose to power Vlad executed the boyars for betraying his father and to consolidate power, then he enslaved their families and worked them to death building Castle Poenari.

He also invited Walaciha's poor and sick to a banquet then asked them if they would like it if their prince releived burdens and suffering. They said yes, so Vlad left the banquet hall, boarded it up, then had it set on fire claiming, "I did this so that no one will be poor in my realm."

The Brute: Grand Admiral Thrawn (Star Wars expanded universe). Admiral Thrawn is both a millitary genious and an expert in art and culture. He uses his studies of his enemies art and general culture to determine their basic psychology and turn it against them or use that knowledge to defend his own troops in battle or crush his enemies. Thrawn's a Brute, but he's a very smart one.

The Evil Genius: Davros (Doctor Who). Creator of the Dalek race and master of genetic engineering, Davros is a perfect asset to this team. Ruthless, brutal and highly intelligent, Davros is a force to be reckoned with. Don't let his wheelchair-like device fool you.

The Dark Chick: Lucrezia Mongfish Heterodyne A.K.A. the Other (Girl Genius). Daughter to the late Lucifer Mongfish, wife of the missing William Heterodyne and mother to Agatha, Lucrezia Mongfish is a powerful Spark and deadly foe. After being temporarily redeemed by the Heterodyne boys' Lucrezia drugged her former lover and friend of the Heterodyne boys' Klaus Wulfenbach, shipped him off to parts unknown, married William Heterodyne, gave birth to both Barry Klaus Heterodyne (whom she killed in attacking Castle Heterodyne) and Agatha, attacked Castle Heterodyne and murdered her own father while storming her husband's castle.

Lucrezia also faked her own kidnapping and sent her husband and his brother Barry on a wild goose chase, trying to rescue her. She was only stopped in her bid for world domination by Baron Klaus Wulfenbach himself when he conquered Europa.

The Sixth Ranger: Jonathan Teatime (Hogfather a Discworld novel). Master Assassin who has studied various imaginary creatures since childhood, with the intent to kill them. His targets included the Tooth Fairy, the Hogfather, the Soul Cake Tuesday Duck and Death. In fact, Teatime could have killed Death if he hadn't monologued long enough to get Susan Sto Helit's famed monster slaying fireplace poker chucked straight into his stomach!

Magnificent Hahn's Glorious Band of Heroes (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GoldfishPoopGang)
The Hero (The Big Bad): Hahn (Avatar: the Last Airbender) Ruthless, selfish and amoral Hahn is hell-bent on grabbing on to holding power whatever the cost. He sees himself as the rightful heir to the Northern Water Tribe throne and may even stoop to murder and treason to become its chief. This is in spite of the fact that he was only Yue's fiance before she died and became the moon and she was Chief Arnook's daughter.

The Lancer (The Dragon): Captain Hammer (Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog) Bullying, self-righteous and egotistical sum up Captain Hammer pretty well. As do the words pervert, sexist and idiot. Captain Hammer only become a hero for the fame and sex that came with it. He even went to work in a soup kitchen only so he could have sex with Penny, one of its female volunteers. He strongly believes that anyone who's good at math and science or a nonconformist in any way should be imprisoned for life. He calls his penis "the hammer".

The Big Guy (The Brute): Brock Samson (Venture Brothers) Half-Swedish, quarter-Polish and a quarter-Winnebago, Brock "Walking Swedish Murder Machine" Samson is a hulking brute who can kill anything with his bare hands, a blade or a blunt object. He refuses to use guns and other missile weapons with few exceptions because they're not manly enough for him. However, Brock "Murderist Extraordinaire" Samson will not kill women and children. He would only subdue them if no other option were available. Has the highest chance of a Heel Face Turn.

The Smart Guy (The Evil Genius): Edmund Blackadder (Blackadder Goes Fourth)

The Chick (The Dark Chick): Zola the False Heterodyne (Girl Genius) Flashy, showy and a master at playing to the crowd, Zola "Heterodyne" would make a great face for this gang, convincing much of the world or worlds that Hahn and his forces are the good guys. She's also not afraid to execute anyone who might get in the way the group's goal, including underlings and comrades.

The Baldric: Private S. Baldric (Blackadder Goes Fourth) Private Baldric is stupid, filthy and botches up everything he does and touches. He makes coffee out of mud, undercooks road kill and use cat vomit as cream. So obviously Private Baldric is the team chef.

The Mentor: Lord Rust (Discworld) Arrogant, authoritarian and full of himself, Lord Rust is a bumbling and incompetent politician. He is openly bellicose, views common troops as cannon fodder and possesses absolutely no understanding of fighting and winning battles, let alone wars. Naturally he is currently attempting to instruct Hahn in political science and military tactics.

Masters of the Sword (http://"http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NotCompensatingForAnything")
The Hero: Roy Greenhilt (Order of the Stick). Thoughtful and cautious Roy never takes senseless or stupid risks. He has a dry sardonic sense of humor and can easily outsnark any member of this except for Susan Sto Helit.

The Lancer: Cloud Strife (FF VII).

The Big Guy: Roland A.K.A. Orlando (The Matter of France). Handsome, charming, courteous, honorable and inhumanly strong Roland is the ideal knight. He's very popular with, reasonably intelligent and a true warrior for justice, not a self-righteous nutcase. Sadly Roland is easily manipulated by beautiful evil female spellcasters, but he can also free himself from such control through sheer force of will. His sword is the unbreakable Durendal.

The Smart Guy: Gilgamesh Wulfenbach (Girl Genius). Klaus’s son and fellow Spark, Gil is particularly gifted with designing and building clanks and electricity generators such as the generators around Mechanisburg and his lightning staff. Like his father, Gilgamesh is also an accomplished warrior and leader of troops, which he can bring to this team. He's probably the only one in this team who really knows how to cook well. His swords are electric foils and Gil possess the first and only lightening staff, which Gilgamesh invented himself.

The Chick: Commisar Ciaphas Cain (Warhammer 40,000).

The Sixth Ranger (Because calling both Tifa and Angua The Chick already stretches my credulity): Susan Sto Helit (Discworld). Intelligent, shrewd, a skilled combatant and a born spoilsport is amung the most feared enemies of evil in any universe. As Death's adopted granddaughter Susan can pass through walls at will, stop time and command the obedience of any mortal creature she wishes. She's borowing her grandfather's sword and is bringing a handfull of fireplace pokers.

The Mentor: Ghenziz Cohen (Discworld).

Edited Granny's Gang (http://"http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ActionGirl")
The Hero: Granny Esmerelda Weatherwax (Discworld). Chief witch of Lancre’s main coven, Granny fought off elves and vampires to maintain the security of her birth country. She uses magic (in small amounts), psychology, dirty tricks and whatever the hell she can pick up to combat supernatural baddies, like Discworld elves.

The Lancer: Katara (Avatar: the Last Airbender). 14 year-old master waterbender and skilled combatant in her own right. Katata can also control and manipulate water temperature, allowing her to produce ice or boil water. She also learned how to heal with waterbending and can bring people back from the brink of death. Her signature waterbending attack is the dual whip technique.

The Big Guy: Zeetha (Girl Genius). Highly skilled warrior princess and master of both armed and unarmed combat. Her two primary weapons are katar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katar)-like swords and she can knock out a raging bull with a single well-aimed punch.

The Smart Guy: Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). A powerful witch and skilled computer technician, Willow Rosenberg would provide much needed tactical and logisitical support for Granny's Gang. She can provide magical healing, transportation, defense and offense as well. She can drain the life from her enemies and raise the dead. Willow practically has the words "Don't mess with me" stamped on her forehead. Yes, this is a copy and paste job from one of my earlier projects but I don't care.

The Chick (in this group only and don't call her that to her face): Sergeant Delphine Angua von Uberwald (Discworld). First female and sole werewolf member of the Ankh Morpork Night Watch. Good for combat in either form and a brilliant tracker. She’s very good at search and rescue work. When in lethal combat Angua always goes for the throat.

The Sixth Ranger: Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

The Team Pet: You (Discworld). Granny Weatherwax's white kitten. She once chased off Nanny Gynthia Ogg’s cat Greebo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greebo).

The Hero - Traditionally, the hero is the leader of the group. So I want someone with a strong tactical sense and training. The hero often has to go it alone, so they should have a strong self-sufficiency and a resourceful variety of skills. I'd rather not have the traditional clean-cut leader, though--why not invert the usual setup and make the leader more ruthless, straining against a somewhat more idealistic team?

Since I want to choose a more overlooked (but awesome) character, I'm going with Ibn al Xuffasch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibn_al_Xu%27ffasch), the AU son of Batman and Talya al-Ghul. I honestly don't know if Xuffasch even exists in regular DC continuity, but in just his two-page appearance in Kingdom Come he was awesome. Trained by Ra's al Ghul's organization, the League of Assassins, he has both martial arts and stealth skills, as well as the formidable character of his father. Being the son of a legendary figure like Batman, he knows he has a great legacy to live up to, and a heroic legacy that conflicts with his ruthless upbringing by assassins. He'd start off as ruthless and efficient, but you could work an interesting character arc in with him learning to aspire to more noble behavior.

The Lancer - The key role of the Lancer in any dynamic is to play off the leader. Where Ibn al Xuffasch is young and active, I want someone old and experienced. For that reason, I choose Wolverine from Days of Future Past. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_versions_of_Wolverine#Days_of_Future_Pas t) A grizzled old man by this point, Wolverine has seen his comrades die in the Sentinel takeover, and his weariness will play nicely off the more dynamic Xuffasch. This Wolverine has also given in somewhat to his darker nature, and will be the "devil" on Xuffasch's shoulder, always urging him to go with the more efficient if crueler course. After losing everyone he loved, he'll be hesitant to form any connections with his teammates, perhaps the genesis of another arc of character growth.

The Smart Guy - The team needs a cool head, and someone with a less violent nature to offset the badasses mentioned so far. As far as that goes, you find both in Mr. Spock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Spock) from Star Trek. He's resourceful and plucky enough to go on his own if he needs to, and he'll give a valuable alternate perspective to the more aggressive Wolverine. Spock needs to be a bit more comfortable with informality to work with what I have in mind, so I'd age him up from his appearance in TOS. This Spock is more comfortable with getting physical and knows how to use his great strength, although he still looks for pacific solutions where possible.

The Big Guy - In a team that's mostly warriors, the role of the 'big guy' has to go to someone outspoken and bluff enough to stand apart from the acerbic Wolverine and brooding Xuffasch. For this role, I'd go with Gimli, son of Gloin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_son_of_Gloin) from Lord of the Rings. Despite his small frame, he's superhumanly tough and stalwart, and would make a solid center for the team to rally around. He has decades of fighting experience to bring to the table and due to the honorable nature of Dwarves he works well in a team setting.

Frankly, I'm skipping the chick since the team doesn't need a therapist and Xuffasch doesn't need a love interest to tag-along.

The Sixth Ranger - Actually the fifth man of our five-man-band, but someone who would work outside the setup dynamic. Someone who'd rather go their own way than cooperate in a team, and despite being competent grinds against the nature of the others. With all that in mind, I choose... Vash the Stampede. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vash_the_Stampede#Vash_the_Stampede) Yes, he's a bit more powerful than the other characters, but since he keeps his most powerful abilities carefully locked away it's unlikely he'll overshadow anyone. Vash dislikes working in groups--it took a while for him to even accept Wolfwood--and he always has to do things his own way. He'd insist on saving every life he could, to the chagrin of the more realistic team members. But he'd also appeal to something inside Xuffasch--something that reminds him of his distant father, an uncompromising dedication to the best ideals that would make Vash the "angel" on our hero's shoulder.

With that out of the way, I nominate "Swords for Everyone!" as a group name for Agrippa's first team in his most recent post. They're all very fond of their swords (Cohen less so) except for Susan Sto Helit, who is a born spoilsport (and even she gets a pretty damn awesome sword).

Also, I recall my old team of mecha bad guys (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4377274&postcount=49). I'm replacing Ali and his unit with Master Asia and Master Gundam, just to complete the whole "doing this for your own good/probable Heel Face Turn" motif. Ali can be the recurring jerk who turns out to be the real villain.

And to blatantly copy Tengu's old Nobuyuki Hiyama team (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4531991&postcount=84) (most hotblooded VA ever? BAH! Bah I say!)...

The Hero: Domon Kasshu in Shining Gundam (upgrade to God Gundam)
The Lancer: Sousuke Sagara in his M9 (upgrade to ARX-7 Arbalest)
The Big Guy: Touji Suzuhara in Evangelion Unit 03 (upgrades to Full Armor Unit 03...he punched Shinji and took his stuff)
The Chick: Gai Daigouji in his Aestivalis (upgrade to a Daimajin, because that'd be awesome).
The Sixth Ranger: Van Fanel in Escaflowne

There is no smart guy, because Tomokazu Seki has never voiced anyone with an IQ over 100. The best you're going to get is Sousuke's tactical ability and Gai's genre savvy.

Their chief rival group lacks mechanized units, instead focusing on one very overpowered super robot, and other members' cute robotic girlfriends.

And lastly A better question is whose side are you on?
The Hero: Xanatos (Gargoyles)
The Lancer: Havelock Vetinari (Discworld)
The Smart Guy: The Doctor (Dr. Who)
The Big Guy: Granny Weatherwax (Discworld)
Team Pet: You (Granny’s cat) (Discworld)
And I challenge anyone to find someone who could fit the chick position.

The Chick? For that team? Easy as pie: Kreia from Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Now: The team of people who don't know when to stop; who just keep going and going... like the Energizer bunny.

The Hero: The Nameless One (Planescape Torment) Literally nothing can stop this guy. A bit ugly for the usually clean-cut hero role, but he's more than dedicated enough to make up the difference.

The Lancer: Max Payne (Max Payne), OD him on Valkyr and he'll puke his guts out, stand up and immediately keep coming at you. Shoot him in the head and he won't even check into the hospital before coming at you again. Sarcastic and jaded, he compliments the Nameless One well.

The Big Guy: Kratos (God of War), Another guy for whom death is nothing more than a momentary setback. Can also outmuscle Cyclopi.

The Smart Guy: Barra (Iron Dawn, Jericho Moon) a little known heroine from a couple books I wouldn't have ever discovered if I wasn't a Matthew Woodring Stover fanboy, she's shrewd and calculating, and when she puts her mind to it, she can figure out how to break the will of a god. She also didn't lie down when someone practically cut her arm off.

The Chick: This was a difficult one... who is "Never give up" enough, but who also serves as a less aggressive, moral and emotional center for this kind of group. Then I thought... J..James Bond? Sure, he's violent, but when you're compared to Kratos and Max Payne, Arnold Shwarzenegger looks like Mother Teresa.

Aw man, that's a good thread here. Okay. let's think of a nice team up...

Let's make a good team at first:
Most easy decission is The Smart Guy: Shikamaru Nara (Naruto) cause... yeah, whoever read it knows why.
The Hero: Lockon Stratos/Neil Dylandy (Gundam 00), probably for being recently in my mind, but anyway
The Lancer: To counter Neils general cheerfulness and stuff I'd think Avatar's Prince Zuko was a good idea. (Okay, that one took a while.
The Chick: There aren't too many great chicks coming to my mind, but even I have already nominated a smart guy and two brains work better than one why not including Samantha Carter (Stargate SG1).
The Big Guy: We have enough brains, so to get in some pure strength an too pull down the average IQ Xell (FFVIII)
The Sixth Ranger: Maybe some dark and edgy guy. Buffy's Spike or FFVII's Vincent.
Okay, might not be the super uber team up, but I think they will work out pretty well. Alternatively, replace Sam and Xell with Musubi (Sekirei's Chick AND Big Guy) and... er... yeah, would work with only four people that way. Leaves some space for a Team Pet, hu? Hey, Lockon needs his Haro, doesn't he?

And to counter them a little Team Evil:
The Brute: Easiest one, due to be knee deep into 00: Ali al Sarchez (Gundam 00), evil incarnate, thoughm he's not much of a team player. But as long as he can kill some people...
The BigBad: Kind of want to stick with Gundam here, as both of Wing's Chars Treize and Milliardo are pretty good. But... I think I'll go along with the FFVII crowd and take the infamous Sephiroth as the leader of the crazy bunch. Who else was able to keep control of all those freaks?
The Dragon: Okay, due to my 00 fanatism THE Dragon should be Evil Amuro (Livonce/Ribbons Almack), but I don't want to put only Gundam characters in here. I think Madara Uchiha (Naruto) does a pretty good job and pretending to be bad and secretly ruling half the world. Wirthy of a not backstabbing Dragon.
The Evil Genius: Would probably be David Xanatos (Gargoyles) if he was evil enough. Also I think a Mad Scientist was more suiting. I have to admit no great example came to mind at first, but I just recall a pretty good one, though... I forgot his name. So let's call him Evil Guy from Agent Aika. Hey, that bastard was about to kill all life on earth to create a new humanity with a space ship full of girls. And turned his sister (whom he slept with) into a monster. You don't need to be famous to be evil.
The Dark Chick: Can't think of many, so... Azulah (Avatar) will be up here.
Pretty satisfied here, though I'd have liked to use people like Alucard (Hellsing) or Belkar or Sauron or... damn, there are so many bad guys. Alucard might take Alis place, since an immortal vampire is kind of more badass than a mercenary pilot. But he is not... er... he tries to act friendly, so not evil enough.

I just named them the Masters of the Sword (Roy, Cloud, Minsc and Gil decided on it). Now how about my most recent villian team Magnificent Hahn's Glorious Band of Heroes. Is it crappy enough to get their collective asses handed to them by just K-9 and Aerith with some prep time on their part? I also remember making a five man band with the Immortal Emperor of Mankind as the Hero. Rather eclectic bunch might I add.

Let's see...my Five Servant Band:

The Hero: Arturia Pendragon
The Lancer: Diarmuid ua Duibhne (no pun intended)
The Big Guy: Herakles, minus Mad Enhancement
The Smart Guy: Emiya Shirou the Counter Guardian, aka Archer
The Chick: Medusa? Or perhaps Medea...?

Supplemented by...

The Comic Relief: Cuchulainn
The Sixth Ranger: Gilgamesh
The Big Bad: Matou Zouken or Kotomine Kirei
The Dragon: Either True Assassin or a Face Heel Turned Gilgamesh. Hmm...
Elite Mooks: The 80 psyches of the 4th Assassin, and Gilles de Rais
Mooks: Those...beast things summoned from Prelati's Spellbook, controlled by Gilles de Rais

Each Servant will, of course, retain their abilities and personalities as portrayed by Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Zero (excepting Herakles and his insanity).

...

Actually, now I really want to write a bit of fiction featuring these guys as the main characters :smallconfused:

...

I can see it now! Arturia, the queen king of Camelot, must venture forth to do something or other! Joining her are Diarmuid, a nobleman from the "barbaric" Ulster lands to the west, and his younger brother Cuhculainn, along with the shipwrecked Greek hero Herakles and Tohsaka Rin Queen Guinevere's familiar, Archer! Occasionally joined or harassed by the mysterious Gilgamesh, these unlikely heroes must set out to defeat the evil Matou Zouken in an epic battle that butchers mythology in the name of the Rule of Cool!

...

Good grief, now I really want to write this thing :smallconfused:

Huh, I wasn't aware of that nickname. Makes more sense now.

Fate/Stay Night lore ahoy!

Archer, the white haired Servant that Fate/Stay Night fans seem to lust over, is not actually a Heroic Spirit (like...well, almost all the other Servants), but a Counter Guardian. Whereas Heroic Spirits achieved greatness in their lifetimes through their own feats, Counter Guardians are the spirits of normal humans who made a pact with Gaia. In exchange for Heroic Spirit-esque greatness, they agree to become Counter Guardians after death. The role of a Counter Guardian is to eliminate anything that would be detrimental to humanity as a whole, including other humans. This role of killing a certain few to save the many is what makes Archer do what he does in Unlimited Blade Works.

Since Archer is a Counter Guardian, I called him "Emiya Shirou the Counter Guardian". I used that term to distinguish him from the other Archer (Gilgamesh) and Emiya Shirou (Captain Obvious).

You might have apoint there. Okay, not might have, you DO have a point there. Making a good team evil is pretty hard, since a real BigBad who is not an evil genius, a Dragon or whatsoever is pretty seldom. A Dragon is, in my opinion, someone who could just be a great BigBad himself, but has the additional feature of backstabbing. Same with the EvilGenius. A BigBad can't be any of this otherwise he'd just be in the wrong rank, I think.
Of course Sepiroth is not really THE ultimate BB if you know the whole franchise, but what really awesome being is there, being able to handle a bunch of people who are generallly BBs with extra features? Okay, maybe some inhuman creature like Lavos (Chrono series) or various incarnation's of evil gods, but finding a mere mortal who can live a long time without getting a knife or two into his spine by his subordinates.
Hm... thinking of it. one person comes to mind who IS utterly evil and doesn't care about being backstabbed, mainly because he is way faster at doing it anyway. Infamous Black Mage, hehe. But... he's not treally leader material, more like a magic oriented variety of Ali.
Though, I just remember a series which contains a great Dragon and someone who could handle the whole backstabbing problem, just because he is used to doing it and would probably have a nanomachine knife stripped to his subordinates backs ready to cut their spines at a wrong move (And he knows what getting back stabbed feels like pretty good as well) Metal Gear Solid's Ocelot and true Naked Snake, aka Big Boss. (btw, Boss would be a pretty good Dark Chick as well) Only trouble here, they all have kind of good motives to do what they do. So not sure how good they'd fit into team evil.

Well, there's a couple of ways to have a Big Bad who keeps his position. There's the kind that's much stronger than their support (but usually in a different specialty than the Dragon, and smarter or more reserved than the Brute). To pull an example off the Five Bad Band (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveBadBand) page, Liquid Snake was one of these, although he was outsmarted by his Dragon in the end. Other examples would be all of the Sailor Moon bad guys (or at least their Sailor Nothing equivalents, haven't watched the show), my own crossover's Lord Genome, Xykon, and video games in general. Then there's the kind who's much smarter or more clever than their support, but not as scientifically/invention-minded as the traditional Evil Genius. For example, Ernst Stavro Blofeld and all his knockoffs, Rufus Shinra, and Emperor Palpatine (who also fits the first definition, and only really has a Dragon).

And The Boss was neither Dark, nor a Chick, though she could technically fill that role in a crossover group as a nobly-intended, somewhat emotional villain.

In one of my evil groups I have Sephiroth outranking the Kurgan, Fabius Bile, Bangladesh DuPree (barely) and Randal Flagg (barely as well) with the Joker as his equal. The Big Bad is Xykon. Does that make any more sense than the other teams with Sephiroth or is it just rediculous? That group lacks the sheer backstabbing and Magnificent Bastardry of Kato's. Most of them are just outright thugs except Flagg and (some versions of) the Joker. And no one out-thugs Sephiroth with the possible exception of a plot-leveled Xykon, so I think you're good.

Aw, man, stop pointing out the weak points of my teams ^^' Yeah, Boss wasn't really 'dark', more like flashing bright. And chick's also not that great... Best (gender reversed) dark chick from MGS was probably Vamp (though I still need to make sure about his MGS 4 incarnation) Then I'll stick with Azulah.

Also, I thought of a creating a FF best of villains, but got kinda stuck after the latest Cid for the smart guy, though Hinjo was way more mad scientist than him, but he has a certain degree of magnificence, Cifer for the Brute and Vayne for the Dragon (he knows how to backstab at least) Chicks are difficult, though a witch from FF VIII might work, but they are just not present enough. Edea is the Big Bad for a while, then becomes good, the Adell is there for... one fight. (Okay, she's pulling the strings, or seems to at least) And Artemisia may rule the future, but she's not really awesome in what she does in the game. (Or I never felt her to be) The real Big Bad... er... okay, we have a time traveling bastard who turns into an incarnation of evil (Garland/Chaos), a being of pure hatred (Zeromus, but he hardly does anything except for using puppets), a tree who seeks to conquer creation by using power of the void (Exdeath/Exodus(I prefer former)), the most crazy and whacky clown in game history (and I'll stick with that one) who turns himself into a god (Kefka), er... the fangirls favourite, someone who wants to end suffering by killing everyone (go, Seymour ^^') and the latest who wants to kill the gods, but is the Dragon already. Oh, nearly forgot Tactics. But Delita was never able to handle the bunch, and the others are all geeks. (Just remember, Orlandu 'Cid' would have been a nice part of the good team, overpowered as he is) Anyway, couldn't really decide on anything, so I dropped the idea.

I've been trying to think of a decent villainous five-man band, but I keep running into the same problem. All the awesome villains are too egotistical to ever swallow their pride and cooperate in a team. The best you could do is a momentary alliance of convenience, which would almost certainly dissolve as soon as it became advantageous to one or the other. Sure, there's mook villains, but they generally suck. Do you really want guys like Rhino, Shocker, Kangaroo or Batroc the Leaper on your team?

So ultimately I decided to say screw it... I know this team would fall in on itself almost as soon as they formed, but for one battle they could be incredibly awesome:

The Big Bad - Dio Brando (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dio_Brando) from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I already went on about this in another thread today, but you have to love Dio because he's such a jerk. Who else goes out of their way to throw the hero's dog in an oven? And that's before he becomes an immortal vampire and with psychic powers. Dio's a schemer and prefers to use minions for jobs he thinks beneath himself, but he's also temperamental and still a musclebound thug at heart. He has the power to cow others and supernatural charisma, allowing him to naturally attract followers (and if that doesn't work, he has mind-controlling spores to inspire a little extra loyalty).

The Dragon-Evil-Lyn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil-Lyn) from Masters of the Universe. Essentially Starscream, but hot and with magic powers. She keeps the team from being entirely physical, has contacts in the (literal) underworld and can provide plot devices with one arcane ritual or another. Supernatural charisma or no, Dio will have to watch his back when working with her, but she can be trusted act faithfully as long as she's under scrutiny (it helps she's one of the few competent henchmen who exist in her universe).

The Evil Genius-M.O.D.O.K (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MODOK) from Captain America, Iron Man, and others. It took me a while to think of someone for this role, since most mad scientist/mastermind type villains are loners and extreme egoists. So, incidentally, is the Mobile Organism Designed Only for Killing--his name gives you a good idea towards his typical interactions with others. But, partly because of his myopic focus on number-crunching and partly because of his frankly absurd design, M.O.D.O.K has always been a 2nd-tier villain and has been used as a tool by more effective villains before. Let's face it, he's kind of helpless on his own, so I could easily see Dio simply threatening him with dismemberment and keeping him close by so M.O.D.O.K can't scheme by himself. In the meantime, he brings his mental abilities to the field: he can mind-control mooks (it invariably fails on important characters), precisely calculate odds and store data with superhuman acumen, and he's always good for designing a new death-ray or three.

The Brute -Sabretooth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabretooth_(comics)) from X-Men. Victor Creed is (in theory) an assassin for hire, though his bloodlust means you can do little more than just point him at a target and set him loose. He's a perpetual mook who's reach exceeds his grasp--he'd like to become a player, but he's ultimately too dumb and predictable. He'd keep heroes occupied with his viciousness and regenerative powers that will keep him coming back, no matter how many times you blast him. Sabretooth is, like his good opposite, harder to kill than a cockroach.

The Dark Chick -Shima Tetsuo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuo_Shima#Characters) from the movie Akira. He steadily grows from a psychotic teenage delinquent into a being of pure power, but at least in the short-term he can be goaded with the good old hookers and blow. His only weakness is he doesn't really know the extent of his own power and acts emotionally all the time--someone Dio could not only relate to, but manipulate hopefully without having to defend himself. It's still an incredibly risky gamble, but like I said I don't expect the team to survive its first outing.

Alternates

The Other Dark Chick-Psycho Pirate II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psycho_Pirate) of most notable appearance in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Psycho-Pirate has one of the deadliest abilities I've ever seen, but he's prime mook material: he has no ambition other than to leech off the emotions of those he manipulates, and he immediately kowtows to anyone with the power to intimidate him. He's physically weak, but can stop heroes many times more powerful than himself in their tracks. Dio should keep Psycho Pirate close at hand, an ace in the hole in case he finds himself overwhelmed (or in case, say, Tetsuo finally gets fed up with being ordered around).

The Other Brute-Omega Red (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Red) from X-Men. Omega Red is, like Creed, an almost unstoppable psychopath with pretensions above himself. Arkady Russovitch can hardly stop himself from killing people at the drop of a hat (and not just because he's surrounded by life-draining death spores), but he'd like to be a player in the Moscow Underworld, if not even bigger groups like Hydra. Like Creed or Tetsuo, he's relatively easy to buy--he likes cash, drugs and girls (before they wither to death in his arms). He's ambitious, but dumb so he's hardly a threat to Dio's authority.

I picture that team falling apart and disbanding when Dio and Tetsuo get into a shouting contest.

That group lacks the sheer backstabbing and Magnificent Bastardry of Kato's. Most of them are just outright thugs except Flagg and (some versions of) the Joker. And no one out-thugs Sephiroth with the possible exception of a plot-leveled Xykon, so I think you're good.

Thank you Nerd-o-rama. Oh I'm using Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker just so you know. These are my first three teams.

The Saviors (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheMessiah)
The Hero: Zack Fair.

The Lancer: Kurosaki Ichigo (Bleach). Half-Hallow Soul Reaper. Saved his friend Rukia from an unjust, albeit perfectly legal execution, knowing it could cost him his own life. Ichigo brings along his nakama including Orihime, Rukia and Chad.

The Big Guy: Captain Carrot Ironfounderson (Discworld). He's one of the most noble and purest members of Anhk-Morpork's Night Watch. That and he drove a sword through a fully grown man and a stone pillar. The city of Ankh Morpork loves him. That's certainly a plus.

The Smart Guy: The Tenth Doctor (Doctor Who). A complete and utter genius and the savior of mankind on numerious occaisions. Slightly eccentric and likes sweets. Most of the time he's very bubbly and effevecsent and even cheeky. However when innocents are harmed or endangered he becomes a living precision guided tactical Evil detecting nuke. He possesses encyclopedic knowledge on damn near every thing.

The (Staff) Chick: Aerith Gainsborough (FF VII). She's reasonably intelligent, kindhearted, independent minded and the only Final Fantasy Staff Chick that can pull her proverbial weight and isn't annoying. She's dead, but with the Hallowed Darkness group, The Hard Ones (Klaus in particular) and Granny's Gang these guys might would be able to fix that. They might be able to bring back more people while they're at it. That said she's also capable of employing healing, elemental, protective and utility magic in addition to her Limit Breaks ranging from Healing Wind to Great Gospel. If resurrected along with her boyfriend Zack (which she'd insist on) the Saviors would not only have Aerith but they'd have a powerful Ex-SOLDIER First Class.

Agatha brings along her minions including the Jaegermonsters, Moloch von Zimmer, Castle Heterodyne and Von Pinn.

Mentor #1: Death (Discworld). How many times did this guy put his own existance at risk to save the world and individual people? Five times I think. He'd make a great mentor for Ichigo, Aerith and Aang.

Mentor #2: Immortal Emperor of Mankind (Warhammer 40,000).

The Immortal Emperor of Mankind brings all loyal Space Marine Legions, much of the Imperial Guard, the Sisters of Battle and those members of the Inquisiton who aren't psychopaths. That's at most 5% of all Inquisitors.

The Tag Along Kid: Avatar Aang (Avatar: the Last Airbender). Seemingly the only bender capable of mastering all four classical elements, it falls to Aang to maintain their ballance. But more importantly, Aang has a moral responsibility to protect the innocent from harm. For that reason, Aang joined the rest of the Saviors. Aang brings along the Order of the White Lotus.

Xykon brings along Team Evil and Teevo.

The Dragon: Sephiroth (FF VII). Criminally insane genius (though not as smart as his fanboys and fangirls think he is), super solder, with great magical power and a rediculously huge katana no-dachi. He's superhumanly strong and agile, capable of acts that should violate the laws of physics. Sephiorth is an utter psychopath and is delusional enough to think of Jenova as his mother.

The Evil Genius: Fabius Bile (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Fabius_Bile) (Warhammer 40,000). A demon worshipping mad scientst who wears a lab coat made from human flesh. He created the Noise Marines (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Emperor%27s_Children#Post-Heresy_2). He has contacts in the Emperor's Children traitor legion.

The Dark Chick: Bangladesh DuPree (http://girlgenius.wikia.com/wiki/Bangladesh_DuPree) (Girl Genius). An ex-air pirate who's hobbies include torture, maiming and murder. Her ultimate goal is to regain control of her family's empire and punish those who betrayed her mother. Will do her best to ingore any order that doesn't increase the odds of her killing someone else. Bang brings her loyal all-female air pirate gang.

The Sixth Ranger: The Joker (Dark Knight Trilogy). Vicious, brutal and in possession of a genius level IQ, the Joker is master of psychological warfare. He's fond of explosives and guns but prefers knives, saying, "Do you want to know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all of the…little…emotions. You see, in their…last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way... I knew your friends better than you ever did. [pause] Would you like to know which of them were cowards?" That and the Joker's the kind of guy to keep a rocket launcher on hand just in case.

He's also a master of corruption and manipulation. He might try to teach those things to Sephiroth and the Joker.

Hallowed Darkness (http://"http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DarkIsNotEvil")
The Hero: Batman (Batman). He's a highly intelligent man who pushed himself to achieve mental and physical perfection in a quest to avenge his parents murders and protect the people of Gotham City from crime and corruption. He's a master of psychological warfare and unarmed combat. Mister Wayne is a master of stealth and as he says, "Criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot." This being the Nolanverse version he brings along not only Alfred but also Lucius Fox.

The Lancer: Raven (Teen Titans). She tough, rather smart and is capable of manipulating shadow and darkness as a weapon, for defense and as a means of telekenisis. Okay, she can heal too, but that's not her main function. Raven was born to unleash Hell upon Earth, but turned away from path.

Hellboy brings his contacts in the BPRD such as Liz Sherman and Lobster Johnson to this group.

The Smart Guy/Chick (occult loremaster/male Team Mom): Doctor Byron Orpheus (Venture Brothers). He's a supremely moral man and a master necromancer to boot. What's not to like about him? While I know Doctor Orpheus is male he fits the role of the Chick better than Raven. Much better in fact. He's the leader the Order of the Triad.

His jobs are to handle the big things, like tactics and strategy and the small but still important things like making sure that the rest of the team doesn't starve to death. Vinnie brings his own armies of vampires and giant bats.

He wouldn't like any of the Ravagers, especially Xykon and Sephie boy. Adam brings his gang the Them.

Team Pet: Dog (Good Omens). Adam Young's pet hellhound.

The Mentor: The Shadow (the Shadow radio broadcasts and pulps).

Batroc?

Probably. It would be hilarity itself. Plus, the guy fought the Punisher and didn't die horribly. That says something.

I think the most telling thing we can say about Batroc is that of all the supervillains collected by the US Government for a covert attack on Wakanda, he was the only one who the Black Panther didn't take down. T'Challa's bodyguards did that for him.

Was that Priest, Kirby, or Hudlin?

Because Hudlin totally doesn't count.

The Genre Savvy or Madarame Died and Went to Heaven

Hero: There can only really be one pick for this role and that is of course Haruhi Suzumiya. If you need this explained you need to watch the actual show:smalltongue:

Lancer: Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3. While not particularly genre savvy herself, she lives in a world that is and is the one most influenced by it. She's the tall, dark and bishoujo ojou who heads a ridiculously powerful student council when she doesn't wake up, go to school and saves the world. In addition to that she is a huge generator of lesyay and has a school girl lesbian stalker. And these are just the traits that are immediately obvious. Her relative sanity and competence not to mention that she has actually faced the supernatural makes her a good foil for Haruhi and hence perfect as the lancer.

The big girl: Excel from Excel Saga. From a show that parodied a new genre of anime, movies or other entertainment in every episode, she is an obvious pick for this group. With her mania, violent tendencies, middling at best intelligence and loose relationship with the laws of physics she is also a good pick for the role as the big girl.

The smart girl: Konata Izumi from Lucky Star. At least as conscious of anime and video game tropes as Haruhi she is very prone to manipulating them to her own ends. Also extremely competent at spotting things that conforms to tropes and explain how people should behave to make it apply even more.

The token guy/the chick: Madarame Harunobu from Genshiken. A member of a university club exclusively dedicated to watching anime and playing video games and discussing them, he obviously holds a great deal of knowledge about how they work and could probably clearly analyze his own life if he were to see the anime or read the manga. Still being the only guy and the woobie of his show he cannot manage to be more than the chick.

Awesome thread....

Let me chip in....

The Hero: Musashi Miyamoto no Genshi Shimmen
Possibly one of the greatest swordfighters ever. Certified winner of more than 60 duels and founder of his own style, he set off to seek worthy oponent like they can only do in Japan (anyone can think of a better reason for braving the world?). Two skyes, one school...

The Lancer: if ever you thought that a surfboard made of pure iron could not be a sword, this guy is here to prove you wrong. Cynical and bitter, he lays wreak in his wake. The closest man to death, and thus the one who can most easily dodge her vicious blows, Guts from berserk can bleed like an army of bleeders and still chop through hords of fiends.

The Smart Guy: Darth Revan. He does use a blade, after all. Incomparable tactical genius, and epithome of ass whoopery, is possibly the most powerful Force User that ever lived. Pehaps less midi-blahblah than Anakin, he was purified of all emoness.

The Big Guy: Tassadar, from Starcraft. Just to even out the number of laserblades with that of more (sort of) standard issue cutting implements. Why is Tassadar the big guy? Because he is 9ft tall, and a force-using sycophant on a crusade.

The Chick: ran away at the sight of this group...

The guest star: Son Goku, who makes a small cameo.

Sixth Ranger: Samuel L. Jackson.

* shoots anakin on the couch *

"Oh, I am sorry mr Palpatine, did I break you concentration? I didn't mean it. Please, continue. You were saying something about ´feeble skills'...ohohohoh, you were finished? Well, allow me to retort! tell me, what does Jabba the Hutt look like?!....."

Fufufu... a few ideas here...

Gundam Main Heroes. Don't think all these guys have appeared in the same SRW yet?

The Hero: Garrod Ran, from Gundam X. Spunky, clever, with a sense of justice. Having the most epic Gundamjack in the series is huge bonus points, and his only method of leadership is by example and inspiration most of the time. Definitely fits being a certain type of hero.

The Lancer: Heero Yuy, from Gundam Wing. Definite lancer material. Dark, without being at all brooding, and always the efficient soldier. Ruthless almost to a fault, keeps his emotions in check whenever possible, he'd constantly conflict with Garrod's much looser nature. Great foil to someone like that.

The Big Guy: Domon Kasshu, from G Gundam. So very much Domon. He's a super robot pilot for all intents and purposes, and a master martial artist. Also a bit of a dimwit, and focused entirely on beating the next opponent.

The Chick: Loran Cehack, from Turn A Gundam. Friendly, open, and... uh... if you've watched Turn A, I think you know the main reason why he's here. Great moral center for any group, though I hope he's not Garrod's love interest.

The Smart Guy: Hardest one for me. Not many of the leads aside from Heero are particularly bright... then it came to me. The one that didn't have an ubermech for the entire series, and still beat down plenty of mooks.

Shiro Amada, from 08th MS Team. Maybe not the most traditional smart guy, but unlike the rest he's an officer in charge of a group of soldiers because it's just his job. Almost definitely better at group tactics than Heero, and generally a clever guy (beam saber = hot bath ftw). Pretty calm and laid back as well.

The Sixth Ranger: Kira "Jesus" Yamato, from Gundam SEED. An utter show stealer; when he shows up, his beam spam will override the accomplishments of all others. Always seems to be right and a total pretty boy. Not much of a loner, but I doubt the rest of the team would be big fans of his.

The Mentor: Amuro Ray, from you better freaking know what. He already did it twice in his own universe. By the time of Char's Counterattack, he's the most experienced Newtype and one of the most experienced pilots still serving. Very good at understanding other people's issues, because he's been through so many himself. Nu Gundam is also really really cool.

Sadly, once they're in their Gundams, The Chick is probably the most dangerous. Turn A itself is pure h4x.

And now for bad dudes (preferably those that won't Heel Face Turn). Also preference for more important villains. Fortunately, may not be the most backstabby team, though it's still a risk given the Big Bad being a crazy.

The Big Bad: Rau Le Creuset, from Gundam SEED. A total megalomaniac, who wants to wipe out all Naturals with a nuclear space laser. Doesn't let on that he's the Big Bad, but is kind of insane and a good manipulator.

The Dragon: Ali Al Sarshes, from Gundam 00. Too smart and suave to be The Brute, but he's only the leader when he absolutely needs to be. Loves war, and despite being a normal human is still possibly the best pilot on this list.

The Evil Genius: On a team like this? The exact opposite of the heroes, this team is largely made of geniuses. However, I have one very special candidate for this slot.

Paptimus Scirocco, from Gundam Zeta. Merely a decent pilot, only doing as well as he does due to incredibly overpowered mechs and newtype powers. Thing is, he makes the overpowered mechs himself, and spends the rest of his time making everyone else in the series do what he wants, with as much skill as any Gundam villain.

The Brute:Now, for this... an unusual choice.

The Dark Gundam, from G Gundam. Is barely a character at all, it simply seeks to amass a horde of minions and take over the world, by using DG Cells to turn things evil. Both incredibly straightforward and insanely powerful. Definitely big, and doesn't really have an intelligence; likely reprogrammed by Scirocco to follow the others.

Dark Chick: And now, a Dark Chick that doesn't have Heel Face potential. In Gundam.

Wang Liu Mei, from Gundam 00. Quirky, playful, rich, and not at all a pilot, she's definitely a contrast to the rest of the group. Her actual degree of villainy is questionable, but her goals of changing the world at any cost let her fit in, and she likes to manipulate people as well.

The Hero: Ginta from MÄR. Fits the "overzealous idiot hero" type very well, and with Babbo's various forms, he'd make for a very good front line in a battle, a decent healer, a defensive tank, Ginta's pretty much a jack-of-all-trades.

The Lancer: Roronoa Zoro from One Piece: Prime Lancer material. He's just as stubborn as Ginta, but where Ginta is hotheaded and excitable, he's calm and stoic. A bit more mature than Gita, too. In a battle, he'd be far more skilled in melee range than Ginta, with a dose of good ranged power, too.

The Smart Guy: Genis Sage from Tales Of Symphonia: He fits the smart guy mold perfectly, and dealing with Ginta would be just like dealing with Lloyd to him, except he might actually find Ginta's enthusiasm refreshing, since he doesn't get bored like Lloyd. In a battle, he'd be the ranged specialist, casting high-yield magics from behind Ginta and Zoro.

The Big Guy: Sabin from Final Fantasy VI: Strong, tough-as-nails personality, but with a very emotional core. A bruiser with a good heart. Frontline fighter, and his Blitzes can provide some ranged offense or support.

The Chick: Marle from Chrono Trigger: Fits all the good connotations of the Chick: she'd be the moral compass of the team, and pull them together, even if she has to beat them over the head sometime. Very support-casty, with some ranged damage too. Very useful.

The Sixth Ranger: Alastor, from Viewtiful Joe. Really. Do I need to say more about this one?

...

I like the way you think. And no, not all of the heroes have been in the same SRW. I think as many as 4/7 have been in the same game (Amuro, Garrod, Jesus, and "Laura" in Z; Amuro, Garrod, Domon, and Heero in R). 08th MS Team is distressingly rare in SRW.

You know, though, as much as I love Shiro, pre-SEED Destiny Kira could possibly qualify better as a Smart Guy. We could have Setsuna as the loner, ambiguously evil Sixth Ranger and an "evil" counterpart to Heero.

Nah. One second thought, I like Shiro more than Kira or Setsuna. Keep him.

As for the bad guys...come on. Even if she is going to inevitably betray them, can you really leave Haman and the Qubeley out of the bad guys in favor of Wang Liu Do-nothing?

Shiro is the man. Even if it was Romeo and Juliet in Gundams, 08th MS was way better than a lot of the franchise.

And... I was thinking Haman. Soooo thinking Haman. Desperately trying so hard to resist, because I know that she's not going to stay on a team that has Evil Char, Prince Ali Sociopathic is He, MINDRAPE and... well, Dark Gundam... but... agh. Dang it. Freaking Haman T_T
