Certain things from 3.0 and 3.5 are not present in the 4E core books. It is quite possible that these will be found in a splatbook later this year, or the PHB2 in the next; but in the meantime, we always have the homebrew forum.

Familiar Bond (wizard utility 2)
You have a spiritual bond with a tiny animal of your choice. You can communicate with it through whistles and gestures (within line of sight), but not with other animals of the same kind.
During combat, as a minor action, you can move it up to six squares, then designate an enemy for it to distract. As long as this enemy is adjacent to the familiar, it has -2 to all attacks. The familiar can be attacked; it has the same defenses as you do, +4 for its size, and any damage done to the familiar is taken by you instead.

Heck, let's add one more.

Charm
Wizard encounter 3
Standard action, range 10, mind affecting
Attack: intelligence vs. will
Hit: The target may not attack you (or use area attacks including you). If you attack the target (or use an area attack including it), this effect immediately ends, and the target may make a standard attack against you as a free action. If used outside combat, gain a +4 bonus on bluff and diplomacy checks against the target.
Miss: You automatically fail all bluff and diplomacy checks against the target, for the remainder of the encounter.

Hmm. Maybe Charm should also allow you to keep the targeted creature from targeting your allies? Perhaps it should get the creature to start using nonlethal damage and targeting both allies and enemies with it to essentially "break up the fight between friends."

However, I know very little about 4e rules, so I don't even know if there is nonlethal damage.

Random Deflector
Warlock (any) utility 2

Encounter - immediate interrupt
Trigger: You are hit by a ranged attack that targets your Armor or your Reflex defense.
Effect: Count all characters within 3 squares of you, including yourself, and select one of those at random. That character is hit by the attack instead.
