I was wondering if anyone here would know of non-American artists that haven't hit the mainstream that they could link me to? Foreign artists living in the U.S. also doesn't count.

Could be anything to someone who opens for acts at concerts, to just anyone who made a quick recording and stuck it on myspace. Also doesn't matter what language or anything :smallcool:

Well, basically going for one's that would, at most, only be well known in their area, but not like famous in their country or anything.

If they live in the U.S. they are no longer abroad :smallwink:

Basically the magazine I'm involved with features an International Artist each month, but one not well known, and it's just a bit difficult finding local talent several thousand miles away.

This month's for instance will be Danny Hooper, a country artist from Australia. Next month is likely to be Wayra, a south american native Incan musician, etc. Now, granted, the latter mostly plays up north, but his is a special case.

Svartsot (Svartsot.dk) seems to fit the bill. They're a somewhat well-known Heavy-Metal band from Denmark.

Enter Shikari!

Pretty popular this side of the pond, but not got a big following in America - I think either toured recently or will be soon, and they're awesome, especially live. Nary will ye see a more energetic show.

I|m not sure, but Diablo Swing Orchestra (http://www.diabloswing.com/mainer.htm) might fit your bill. A swedish group taht tries to combine metal with elements of various other style especially swing.
they deserve all the support they get.

That... may be exactly what I'm looking for. Can't understand a word of course, but that is some of the most fascinating music I've ever heard.

Edit: I think I just fell in love with the Balrog Boogie...

Define 'mainstream'. After all, Nightwish doesn't get radio play after all.

Two Siberians (http://whitefort.ru/mp3.htm). You never knew an electric violin and acoustic guitar could be so awesome. Abroadedness aside, these guys are some of my favorite musicians and I can't recommend them enough.

Panzerballett from Munich (panzerballett = tank ballet)
an interesting mixture of jazz, funk and heavy rock.

They're the band of a former student of my soon-to-be guitar teacher Peter O'Mara

Maybe Orkestr (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BdIN_1XtLM) Che? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCBXwAG8V7M) Might be a smidge more established than what you're looking for, but there you go.

I could also name a couple of Chechens ... Zaur Magomadov?
