Anyone here familiar with the artwork of Brom? Any fans?

Familiar enough that I recognize his art. I'm fairly sure if he did the art for Dark Sun (D&D), and I associate him with a sort of tragic, empty beauty. Personally, I prefer Luis Royo. I've bought fantasy novel just because Royo did the cover art.

Hmm. Is it just me, or does Brom's art seem like a still version of Pan's Labyrinth?

I like Brom. I own his illustrated story The Plucker. So freakin' creepy.

He has his own site. I'd post the link but I believe it has the occasional stray boobie here and there...

mmm, an excellent way of putting it. This would explain the sort of haunting familiarity Guillermo's work has, as i've been seeing Brom (knowingly or not) ever since I started playing M:tG ages ago. Regardless, yes, I'm a big fan. He has one of those immediately recognizable styles like Mike Mignola's (ironic, 1 degree of separation there :smallamused:)

I had no idea who this 'Brom' was but I recognise some of his stuff now that I've looked it up on Wikipedia.

I can't say I'm that much of a fan. Too much bondage and white skin, not enough lesbians.

He's basically Boris Valejo but better if a little less varied.

I like Luis Royo, despite the fact that he's a complete dirty old man. At least the porn he paints occaisonally manages to be sexy.

You ever have one of those moments where the wheel in your head slips and the Hamster smacks his face on it? My mental nose is still smarting, it's what happens when your train of thought hits a cow and goes from 80 to /b/ in 0 seconds flat.

Any way, on the subject of the seedier edge artistic qualities, may I suggest H.R. "Sweet Jesus it Raped My Face" Giger ?

I like Royo too, especially The Daisy, The Neverending Sparkle and The Seeds of Nothing. Also good is Fredrik K. T. Andersson. He draws in a much more cartoonish style, but does excellent work nonetheless. Monster girls are a continuing theme. He has a gallery on Elfwood and an ongoing webcomic called Pawn.

I rather enjoy Brom and the plucker a lot. As well as for a lot of his MtG work (Platinum Angel is the first to strike my mind).

I would recommend you bunch to also look for Puddnhead.

I like Brom, first saw his work on AD&D Darksun. He also did a bit for Shadowrun (i.e. the great Harlequin cover). I have a book of him: "Darkwerks: The Art of Brom"

I also like most of Royo, Valejo, Elmore and Caldwell, just to name a few.

I wasn't trying desperately hard to be serious.

The key differance is the H R Giger draws that stuff to be disturbing rather than erotic.

I dont like him as much.

I looked up some Royo. Does he have a book featuring just the gothic punky future stuff. (http://rivendell.fortunecity.com/redguard/636/royo/30.html)
(More of the same) (http://www.aumania.it/fa/royo/120.jpg)

Not that i have a problem with women having sex with monsters. I just like the future stuff from an art standpoint.

Speaking of Dark Sun art, would anyone object to posting more?

Thanks in advance.

His books are pretty much mixed from what I've seen. The two pictures you linked to is in 'III Milenium' which has a number of similar pictures and too many pictures of women with assault rifles.

His newer ones are generally better in my opinion. I'd say my favourite is 'Subversive Beauty' but that's mainly because it contains the sketches as well as the paintings.

It's pretty easy to avoid his "sex with monsters" books since they mostly say 'PROHIBITED (1, 2 or 3)' on the cover.
