Baeln meets Trent.

Trent scratches his head, looking into the other boy's face.
"I'm Galle. Nice to meet you, Baeln." He offers his hand up for a shake, as if he were being introduced to someone at a job. "Aren't you the blacksmith's son?"

Smiling briefly, Baeln takes the hand and shakes it.

"Hey. Nice to meet you too Galle." He ponders on something for a moment.

"Yes, I am... and... you were a lumberjack, right? I remember my father buying wood from you."

ColonelFuster

Trent nods, smiling. "I don't make deliveries very often. I just wanted to look at his weapons, really."

Baeln chuckles at the last sentence. "And I was thinking that I've seen enough of them to last a lifetime."

ColonelFuster

"Enough... weapons..." Trent pretends to understand, nodding. He then glances at the boy's hand. "Who's spear is that? Your own?"

Cespenar
2008-08-02, 02:54 AM
I thought I said that I left my spear at home, but... I'm apparently holding it right now, so I'd better play along.

"Uh, no, actually. My father made it, though I doubt it'll be as effective as... the thing... you're holding there." He gestures at the fearsome tool/weapon which is the greataxe.

"But I don't suppose we'll be allowed to use them, right?" Still looking at the edge of the greataxe, he continues. "I heard that decapitation is frowned upon in sparring matches like this."

ColonelFuster
2008-08-02, 04:00 PM
Trent puts the greataxe down next to him. "Oh, yeah. I guess so." He turns back to Daffyd and looks at the clubs. "You don't happen to have anything like a staff, do you? My father taught me how to use one in two hands when I was really little, smashing nuts and stuff. I guess it was to prepare me for the axe." Trent's eyes wandered over the breif array of wooden implements...

Cespenar
2008-08-03, 03:36 PM
"I'll take one of those then." He reaches for one of the clubs and weighs it in his hand despite his utter lack of combat experience.

I was waiting for the DM response, but since I have the time...

Sorry guys, forgot to subscribe to this thread, it is remedied now.

"My my, you are both keen, we have to wait for my guards yet, they know the drill" as he finishes saying that the two guards that are always following him around turn up, they are pretty rough looking fellows, both dark haired and unshaven, wearing black tabards, the shorter one has a small scar under his left eye, "Let's get this over with then", he reaches down and picks up two clubs, handing one to his compatriot.

"Now remember lads, you are only to defend, it will be up to Trent & Baeln to disarm and subdue you, lets take this around the back shall we, oh and trent I can give you a staff if you want it." Daffyd stands from his chair and motions for you to follow him.

Around the back of the house is a large garden left to its own devices, plants have grown out of their containers and beds everywhere, the centre is cleared of all but grass, Daffyd points to this area "Here is where we shall see what you've got"

The two guards take defensive stances "When you're ready lads" :smallwink:

Trent shifts his feet.
Hahahaha. Perfect, he's just a sitting target. Do it! Get him! Strike him down!
I can't. I need to do this the right way. I need this job!
Trent holds his staff like he would an axe handle, and brings it crashing down, tying his best to hold back, just trying to hit the guard in the broad thigh.

Baeln examines the guards for a moment, and just as Trent initiates his attack, he too dashes to the other guard, swinging his club in a short arc, but actually trying to hit the guard's hand to make him drop his weapon.

Trent
Your guard sidesteps the blow and the staff hits the ground to his right.

"Spread your hands a bit" Daffyd comments.

Baeln
Your club clunks up against the club of the guard you were fighting, these guys are pretty fast.

"Try again, follow through with the shoulder"

Cespenar

"Follow through with the shoulder..?" he repeats to himself. He gazes at the emotionless face of the guard in front of him.

They are obviously much more experienced than us. Though I may manage to whack the club out of his hand, it won't actually prove anything.

Despite the pessimistic nature of these thoughts, Baeln starts to feel a little calmer, and repeats his attack with help of the Burgomeister's advice.

Trent spread his hands.
Who's he to stand between me and this job, huh? Kid gloves are off- it's time to show him what I can do!
He swung his staff up in a narrow arc, aiming for the guard's helmet.

The staff is wrapped in leather and wool at the ends, and so does non-lethal damage anyway... they are training weapons.

Baeln, you manage to crack the guard roughly across the knuckles, knocking the club out of the man hands and to the ground, he rubs the back of his hand as if in pain... "right then, you've got me disarmed... how ya gonna subdue me?" he changes his stance, from an armed defense to more of a grappler's stance, legs and arms wide.

Trent, you crack the guardsman on the top of his helmet knocking it off, it clatters to the ground and the guardsman looks a little dazed... "good hit"

"Much better, both of you... don't go easy, the lads can take it."

Trent realizes he dosen't have to hold back. The line of his mouth becomes a wicked smile, and he brings the staff around to strike the guard in the shoulder of his off-hand.

Baeln throws a glance at the guard's club, rolling on the ground, and replies, "Well, I'm more of a 'one step at a time' kinda person anyway..."

Now his opponent unarmed, he realizes that he feels a little more confident. Trying to get rid of his self-consciousness for a moment, he focuses to the task at hand and wails on the opponent with a diagonal 'cut', aimed for the left shoulder.

Sorry for the double post, but I somehow forgot the damage roll, and you can't add those with an edit anyway.

You both strike simultaneously, the guardsmen reeling under the blows.

"I think that is enough of armed combat, now lets see how you do unarmed"

"Lads, you know what to do"

"Ah sir"
"Yes chief"

Trent, your guard throws his club to the ground and wrests the staff out of your hands.

Baeln, the guard on you cracks you across the knuckles with his fist, causing you to drop your club also, he kicks it away.

Trent makes an angry face and goes in for a hold.

Baeln mumbles, "I could drop it myself, you know" as he dusts his hands together. Remembering the wrestling 'matches' with his father when he was merely a kid, a smile appears on Baeln's face.

This isn't that much different, actually.

He opens his arms and throws a hand at the guard in an attempt to grab him.

OOC: This is working great, the rolls are getting better the more I encourage you!

Trent, you latch around the man's neck in a sleeper hold, he is struggling and trying to pull you off.

Baeln, you grab the mans arm and roll his body weight over your knee, dropping him to the ground, you hear a pop noise in his shoulder as he hits the dirt.

"AHH AHH, I give, AHH"

"Very good boys, I think we can call it a job, the festival is in 3 days, I will have your gear ready by then, pay is 2 gold pieces each for the night"

ColonelFuster
2008-08-05, 09:26 AM
Trent drops the guard and breaks out into a grin.
"Thank you, Daffyd! You won't regret it!" Trent punches the guard he was matched up with in the shoulder light-heartedly, saying, "See you later, huh?"

Cespenar

With a worried face, Baeln crouches near the guard and puts his hand over his shoulder.

"Hey, sorry, are you alright?"

If the answer is positive, he helps the man to his feet.

Don the Bastard
2008-08-06, 02:08 AM
Trent, your guard picks up his helmet and puts it back on, straightening his clothes, "yeah, see you in 3 days"

Baeln, your guards takes your hand, rubbing his shoulder "Nice throw kid, it pops out sometimes, an old wound... AHH" he pops the arm back into joint and swings it around a few times.

Back to PM's now you've passed the test and met each other. You need to tell me if you are doing anything important between now and the festival.
