I know what vector art is, I've never used any v.a. programs though, aside from paint, which is very limited anyways.

I haven't got time to write a detailed explanation, but hopefully these links will be informative :smallwink:

Vector graphics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_graphics)
SVGs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_vector_graphics)
Inkscape (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkscape)
Inkscape site (http://www.inkscape.org/)
Downloading Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/download/?lang=en)
Inkscape documentation (http://www.inkscape.org/doc/index.php?lang=en)

Also, paint isn't a vector art program: it is a raster or bitmap program. Vector programs include Inkscape, Illustrator, Sodipodi, Flash, and many others.

I believe what he meant was that you have various line drawing tools which are common amongst v.a. programs.

Um, that was referring to your post, which seemed to say paint was a vector art program...

Nice one, BA. The only thing I'd suggest changing is the red/blue carpet thing.
The red and blue are faaaar too vivid. Plus, it has a sort of... mmm.. thick stranded texture which looks very out of place. It almost seems made out of yarn.
I might just take it out and leave everything else. It would be fine that way.

The level scaling, and as a result of that, the length of the OC really hurt my view of Oblivion, but I'm more of a Pool of Radiance, BGII sort of guy :thog:. Glad to hear the image is liked though.

Ah, what you can get your lady friends to do is great.

On an unrelated note, one of my lady friends made me a "chibi" (or so I have been informed thats what they call them) version of myself, yet in a Dark Magician outfit. It's rather swanky. Although I wouldn't be caught Dead wearing that.

I think she's making herself a Dark Magician Girl as well.

Anyway, that's all, just proving that girls can have brains and looks. Heh, and I said that with a straight face...I really need to hide these better *ninja look*

I don't know anything about Halo either

is this any better, first time ever I try to shade.

That looks very nice! Soft and nice, makes it more realistic looking! I know it's long since you posted it but I haven't been around for a while.
Try thinking about the direction of the lightsource though. (not on this pic, just in general.) On this pic the light is from head on (I assume), but for other lights/shades make sure the shadows all get on the same side (dependeing on where the light source comes from. But the shading in general is very nice! :smallwink:

Well, I know nothing about Gimp, never having used it myself. But I rather like the zombie dude! He look more realistic in some way then the other one. And very... dead! :smallwink:

Anyway, here's my new art too. Anyone remember the Old One I put up here? It was far from finished then, but here it is finally! Have a look! Warning:It's a big image.
The coloures aren't quite like in reality, but almost. The green is too green here (on the legs that is), is darker in reality! Have a look now! And tell me what you think!

Traditional: Acrylics! Thank you... the colours are better in real life though, they're bit too sharp here. On the green anyway. Well, well... it'll do. The references to mindflayers is only coincidental... I don't think Mindflayers were invented when Lovecraft wrote about Old Ones. But I like 'em both... tentackly thingys are fun! :smallwink:

I like its right wing better, I'm not sure on the left (right from us) and if there is a mistake, maybe a bit in the perspective, but I'm not sure.

The one muscle on his right thigh looks a bit strange as well to me, but that's both minor. His awesomeness outweighs it by far.

And I forgot to tell you, I really liked the colours on the Old One. Especially its left side and the head.

Yeah, the left wing (our right) could be better shaded, but I was in a bit of a hurry. The shadows are too "flat", they should get lighter closer to the up-side of the wing-bones (like on the other wing, but not as much of course).

Hmm, the leg muscles became funny when I shaded... lookes good before I did. Wonder why...? :smallconfused: Ah, well... it works good enough for me!

Thank you very much! :smalltongue: The head is the part I like the best too... and some of the figures on the arch! *nods*

By Abardam: It is . I wish I had a tattoo like that. How does the shading get transferred, though...?

Thank you! Hmm... I have no idea. I'm not the one to tattoo it! I think it'll get smoother and not as much contrasts (in the shadows themselves). But that depends on how good the tattooer(?) is. I hope it'll get good! I long 'til I can see it, I'm so curious!!:smalltongue:

My First Inkscape creation, any ideas on how to improve?

Bryn
2007-12-01, 06:17 PM
Fairly good for a first try, Kigganaku. The big thing that would help your picture is thicker lines - 2pt (or 2 pixels) is generally the accepted norm. I'd also increase the contrast between line and main body colour on the torso and arms - simply make the lines darker. Apart from that, for 'true' OOTS style (assuming that's what you're going for), you don't use sleeves that are any longer than half the arm, but there's no rule saying you must conform to the Giant's style.

Once that's done, add detail. Don't go too over the top - if your work has too many lines it begins to look worse rather than better when drawing vector art. Shading always helps (unless you're one of those dastardly villains at the evil alliance of non-shaders :smalltongue:), for which I've written a tutorial (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33418) to explain the basics :smallcool:

Bryn
2007-12-02, 05:40 AM
As OOTS style art, this should probably go in this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37646).

Fairly nice, again, here are some critiques... :smalltongue:
Whatever line width you choose, it should be uniform for the whole picture. Admittedly, I don't follow this rule entirely myself, but the outer line should be about 2 pt, smaller for details inside it.

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6702/roundendbuttonyw0.png
Making the ends of the arms, fingers, and legs rounded would help, too. Just click the above button in the 'Cap' section of the Stroke Style tab.

The eyebrows might enjoy an outline :smalltongue: It's worth noting that the Giant simply uses lines for his eyebrows (when they appear), but there's no reason to do that if you don't want to.

I'd suggest giving the edges of the guy's robe a very slight outwards curve (have a look at Vaarsuvius for an example) rather than a box. To do this, select the robe object and click Stroke to Path, then edit the vertices and make the edges curved :smallwink:

Uh... I might be wrong, Omega, but you should post your own art. Or, if you really like someone else's, at least write whose work is this. Something like "The image of lost city of Atlantis has been reproduced with permission from Kenn Brown at the Mondolithic Studios (http://www.mondolithic.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=44) site" in this case. Cool pictures you two. Just so you guys know, I'm up for criticism for my Redcloak pic.

Hmm.

I'm not really much of an artist other than in OOTS / copying shamelessly from pictures, so I don't really know how valid this is, but I'll just give whatever criticism I can.

1. The feet seem a little stubby/weird...like they're just the leg extending downwards, not an actually foot (i.e. they don't have toes, a heel, etc).
2. He seems a little skinny.
3. Something about his face/head bothers me, but I'm not really sure what. Maybe it's just the style.
4. His hands look a little funny to me. They seem positioned a little weirdly, but I don't really how to fix that. Also, maybe make the fingers attached to the hand without a line separating them?
5. The folds on his ears seem weird somehow? Not sure.

All in all though, it's a pretty spiffy drawing. I especially really like the cloak. Also, the background is pretty cool and subtle.

There. That probably wasn't all that helpful, but it's all I've got.

Yeah, the toes are a little weird. But, he is rather scrawny, so I guess that was one that wasn't too helpful :smallwink: , Yeah, I think it's just the style, honestly. True, I just alwyas draw like that, but I supose I'll get rid of it, less confusion. I actually tried that pose though, it came out very close to what I did. With the help of my sister, I figured out how I made the ears weird.

This was much help, thanks

Cool, But I think that you spelled practicing wrong.

I have always been taught that "practice" is a noun, whereas "practise" is a verb. However, I'm checking some dictionaries, just in case...

Apparently "Practice" can also be used as a verb, but it remains true that "practise" and thus "practising" are perfectly acceptable words. At least they are in British English, since further reading on the subject suggests that "practise" is pretty much exclusive to Britain. Americans...

Practise on Hyperdictionary (http://www.hyperdictionary.com/search.aspx?define=practise)
Practise on Dictionary.com (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/practise)
Practise on Chambers (UK) (http://www.chambersharrap.co.uk/chambers/features/chref/chref.py/main?query=practise&title=21st)

Grammar/spelling aside...
Ichneumon, nice pixel art, although I think the skin colour could do with being made a little less grey. I find that copying the skin tone in OOTS (using the hexadecimal values) gives a nice shade that works well, but in any case I think it should be brighter. That's my only criticism, though, and it's good work in any case!

Fantastic job! I love the style

Only advice is to possibly shade the teeth a different colour to the wall next to them to help them stand out more. The design is great... but what does it do?

Thanks.

I ...don't really know. Perhaps it's a backwards drill? Or an eating machine? I don't know.

It probably would have been a good idea to colour the teeth different, but I couldn't really be bothered at that point.

Yup, that was done on GIMP. It does virtually everything I need it for, although Photoshop is probably better, just not £400 better.

2008-01-12, 08:42 AM
Aha, I might have to check it out. Does it work in layers? Vector or Pixel based? I guess it does have a pressure-sensitive tool for working with tablets?

I tried a few tablet-drawings in CorelDRAW, the vector-based program I also use for OotS-style. Here are two monsters I drew for the Monsters in the Playground project. I never got a reply for either of them :smallannoyed:

It's pixel based, effectively it's a freeware version of photoshop. And yes it's got layers. It's sooo nice to have layers in a bimap program. Before I got GIMP I was using photoshop three, which couldn't really do anything.

That moss golem's awesome, I think it works much better than the other ones. I'm not sure gow suited a vector program is to tablet drawing, though.

I bought some new artists pens and decided to play around.
I ended up drawing this strange being. She's from a strange tribe of pale beings (rather like moomins) bred as slaves. Females are rare amongst the tribes, due to the fact that they are strictly eusocial.
Due to their humanoid appearance, they are often mistaken for actual humans, and often do get wound up in the trafficking industry by accident (poor things). Noone made them, noone bred them. They are just their. Like dust.
They are mute, deaf and partially blind. And for some strange reason, they are completely unpigmented.

Her nipples were originally on full display, as she had recently escaped a brothel, but I air-brushed them out (rather poorly) for fear of uproar.

You guys are all seriously talented artists. I especially praise some of Old One's work. Sadly, I lack skills with hand-drawn or photoshopped art, but I have a few images to share.

I mostly use DAZ Studio (similar to its more popular counterpart, Poser), with which I can just slightly edit or morph, move, and render various pre-existing models. Technically, it is not as easy as it sounds, and I have a couple of characters with months of slight tweaking put into them, especially my own drow fighter, though this sort of art is doubtless less demanding than what most of you are doing.

I hope no one minds my use of 3D art. It is different from most of the thread's content, but the thread is for non-OOTS style art, is it not?

I am not likely to post much here, as I have... another project in mind. Consider this a sneak peek.

First, the aforementioned drow fighter. 'Tis an old image, and now outdated, but it has always been a favorite.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/holstonmtn/AenelorFPthing1.jpg
Second, the human cleric from the first game of D&D I ever played. It was the "casual wear" version of the character, though it became accurate once our DM realized that the character was not strong enough to wear chain mail.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/holstonmtn/Marius_V1_1.jpg
Last, a dragon rider of sorts, wearing illogically heavy armor. Originally, this was just made for fun, though I came to love the reflections on the armor.

Thanks very much for your input.

The drow would certainly be fighting some large creature or other off-screen (or a floating weapon, 'tis up to the viewer, I suppose. Part of the problem with that image's age is that I had few other well-made characters at the time, and a plastic unclothed bald human would be even stranger than the camera angle, methinks.

Some of the stuff here is really old (several years)

FrakenGundams (old townies will remeber the shop i had)

My mechs, let me show you them.
Ive made quite a bit over the years. Lets start with the first one i ever made! (note, some will look weird cuz the background isnt white)

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/DWDmech1.gifhttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/DWDmech2.gifhttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/DWDmech3.gif Ive always wanted to make sprites of this one and convert him to mugen but i cant ever seem to get it to look right.
This mech is what i used when i was roleplaying as Dark Warrior Duck (darkwing duck from the cartoon in the future epp) in a chatroom.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/SuperRoboJojo.gifhttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/SuperRoboJojoV2.gif
The Super Robo Jojo V1 and V2, i was playing Mojo Jojo at the time.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/Vaknor.gifhttp://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/Vaknor_CommandUnit.gif

The Vaknor and Vaknor Command Unit were Mojo Jojo's army.

Then i had allot of requests to make mechs for other people.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/MajikinHell.gif

And then my old mac crashed and i no longer had access to apple works 5....

Eventualy when i got a pc, someone turned me on to gimp, and i made these, the death knight being the first of the gimp mechs and allot of requests started coming back in based off of my older works

Then i stoped taking requests, and i made some mechs to go along with a table top rpg i was running

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/Goliath.gif Goliath

Then i was beaged and challanged with new requests, the first to make a mech for Candle Jack (an obscure character from Freakazoid)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/CandleJackMech.gif

Then i made a couple for my girlfriend and her brother.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/MistyMech.gif

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/MistyMechSword.gif
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/AndysGundam.gif

And thats it! Thats all the mechs ive made so far.
There is one more but its not finishied, i just never could... dont know why..
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/LongShot.gif

But wate, there's more....(as all that above was coppyed from a post at another fourm)

Ive made some recent edits!
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/AfferbiaCustom.gif
These are for a mech rpg that someone is running here. These are quick edits. Using only 8 images for parts.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/OotsRPGIdea.gif
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/OotsRpgIdea2.gif
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y214/SpiderMew/OotsRpgIdea3.gif

Even though the site that the images i use for parts were from went down, the images are still hosted a few places, i still have them if anyone ever wanted to take a shot at it. Its allot like frakenspriting, just big

Now, if I may ask, how did you do it? I have NEVER seen a piece of art like that before.

Firstly, thanks :)

Secondly, I did it with the aid of science! Er, photoshop, anyway. The flag was something I had sitting around from an older Pirates campaign. The face is the texture from a picture I found on Google of an alligator lizard, painted over the facial structure of a hound of some sort (in retrospect, I could have used a 'raptor head and saved myself some trouble), and then played with the levels.

The had is a result of searching for "Cavalier Hat" on Google Images. The body is a much-edited crop of Yoda, cut from a screenshot from Ep. III (see? Something good came out of that movie). Take time to play around with layers and color levels and you'd be surprised what you can do.

Also, as counterintuitive as it might seem, try taking the tutorials - I learned a bit, and my photoshop-fu is still nowhere near as strong as it should be.

But thanks!

I wish I were so good with colored pencils. It was photoshopped lineart, inspired by Escape Velocity:Nova and EVE. The only thing that was my touch was the ghettotastic antenna thing on the nose.

Glad you like it, though.

Well it is a legacy weapon, so for me that would depend kinda on the backstory of the weapon. Like i would look at the culture that it was made in, the powers infused in it. Before deciding on the colors.

Just by looking it at it i would picture the hair of gold, and wings of ivory or silver. But sometimes i look at that and i see green in the back part of the grip, and that might look weird with silver and gold.

Hm, well, long story short, a noble with power over fire (Yes, a Mattarias :smalltongue: ) was on a quest to stop a great evil from being released into the world. He was helped by a chaotic sorcerer and a nameless harlot (pictured in my avatar). The harlot sacrificed herself to protect the noble in his moment of need, and he was thus able to prevent the darkness' escape. He and the sorcerer were able to snatch her away from the maw of death, but the noble though that to be too little of a repayment. He and the sorcerer forged a sword that would "attune" to the harlot, and allow her to defend herself from the predators she faced back "home", day after day. She grew to be famous, and soon the sword's name was known as hers, synonymous with vengeance- Mononoke.

..Ok, maybe that wasn't so short, but that's the general picture. ^^;

Seriously, it's good, but you have some anti-aliasing issues around the edge of the drawing, where it touches the background. Possibly the original colour of the paper still showing; I'm not sure. There's also some red near the can things on the chest, probably also due to anti-aliasing.

Yeah....Like I said, it wasn't originally planned to be colored. I have minimal experience with photoshop, especially with coloring things. However, I'm hoping to get better, so any tips are greatly appreciated.

My process was fairly simple. I used a thin brush on a separate layer to retrace over the original sketch, fixing/straightening the lines along the way. The anti-aliasing probably comes into play here, where I filled in all of the main colors with a combination of the magic wand and magnetic lasso tools. Obviously, there must have been a few areas that escaped my notice. The shading was easy, I just selected a colored area and went over it several times with brushes set to either black or white (for shadow or shine) at a very low opacity.

So, any tips for giving your art an outline without anti-aliasing are greatly needed. It seems the problem was mainly due to the fact that drawing a line with the brush tool doesn't come out neatly, and often leaves bits of grey artifacts surrounding it. Help please?

Lack of proportions? I'll freely admit the arms on the first one are screwed up, but what's wrong with the second one?

Flickerdart
2008-03-04, 08:29 PM
It was the second one I meant. Generally, the arms are 3 head lengths, you're pushing 5. Plus tiny palms contrasted with gigantic pillar legs, and a serious lack of chest and neck.
I do like how you've actually attempted to show foreshortening. Just kick the upper body into shape and it'll improve dramatically.

@Iames, like Flickerdart said, the proportions seem a bit off in both. The second more noticably than the first. In the first one the only major thing that bugs me is that the shoulders seem a bit wide and the arms a little bulky (and short :smalltongue: ). The second one's problem is that the torso and arms seem too short and stocky in contrast to the legs.

I don't know if this the place to ask this, but does anyone know of a good 3D rendering program? For free by any chance?

I use Blender (http://www.blender.org/), which is a professional-quality 3D suite for modelling/animation/lighting/rendering (the built-in renderer is reasonably capable)/physics simulation (hard and soft bodies)/video editing (full features (http://www.blender.org/features-gallery/features/)). The learning curve is pretty steep, but there are tons of tutorials available for various skill levels, and a good support forum here (http://blenderartists.org/forum/). Hope that helps!

Manga-style, actually. 'Anime' is animation. I sketched a still. Furthermore, there is no indication other than the armor that what I drew was medieval, and plate armor was used all the way up to WWI. Just nitpicking.

I found something cool from a long time ago, so I dug it up. It was drawn on a calculus packet in class, and I had to eraser out the questions that overlapped. Kudos to whoever finds the spot I missed.

Both for Imperium Nova, you can read about it on the other games board. Pretty fun.

The reason a lot of my stuff is rough is two-fold: first, I draw in unstable and unconventional places, like in class. Second I don't have fancy things like kneaded erasers, 4H pencils, and tablets. I have a Bic 0.7mm and an overused Sakura .45mm Micron. Sorry.

I love this one, extremely well drawn, and it (probably uninentionally) reminds me of Warhammer 40k for some reason. The design of the armour is great. My only criticism is the angle of the head: it seems to be twisted slightly too far, and it would be nice if it was angled slightly forwards. Of course, that can't exactly be easily corrected, and its a fantastic image even so.

Its easy, Im a sprite editor.
I took an image of a character named Condor from the video game Garou: Mark of the Wofls, and a helper from Marvel Vs Capcom, put them togeather, i did have to do most of the shorter wing myself, and I compleatly changed the costume, the muscles were done by SNK, i though actualy took out some of the shading and made it simpler then it was. I can only do little stuff from sratch, like the parts of the costume.
I cant however, make anything as big and detaled as you did with just ms paint, thats a great job!

Z, EVERYTHING reminds you of Warhammer 40k. THIS picture proably reminds you of warhammer 40k
http://fearofclowns.com/gfx/meals/double_cheeseburger.jpg

Haha! I don't blame him, Warhammer 40k is one of the single best universes ever constructed ever. And he's right, I definately was inspired a little by 40k, not in any particular design facet, but rather in that I tried to make the armor look somewhat medieval and antiquated.

Bloddyredcommie... Whats a Mcdonnalds Double Cheesburger have to do with Warhammer 40k?

Nothing, thats my point.

Although, if you look at it closely, the cheese is about the same color as the aquilla on an imperial navy battleship.

Ah, I see, so the sprite image is created by sticking different sprites from other games together, changing colours, and then adding to and editting the costume to produce the end result. Is this done using MS Paint or some special software?

There's a Games Workshop in my city that I have entered several times. I've been interested in such miniature war games for years, but it's too expensive a hobby to pursue. :smallfrown: My dabbling in the game is restricted to admiring the model pictures on the website.

Yeah you can use ms paint, i use a program called GIMP for all my artwork though. And that way is just one way of making sprites and pixil art, but there are people who can make them just from scratch.

Singelton That pic of Belkar is just great!! It's a fav scene for me too and you did it justice! Interesting comic style too. A bit like older comics. I like that.

Here's a little ugly dragon sketch from me. Made it yesterday. The scanner ate some details and made it worse I'm afraid.

Thank ye! I always get the "old school" comment. I ain't that old, dammit! But, since the guys I imitated/emulated when I was a kid are all a generation older than me, it's not hard to see why. I've recently begun working in a more modern style for my online comic. I'm having more fun with it than anything I've ever worked on, before.

I like the way you suggest the musculature of the dragon without trying to outline every muscle and bone. Whatever you can hint at, visually, will usually make a stronger picture.

I recently started fiddling around with various art programs for the first time, and decided to try making a couple Kirbys in honor of my favorite Super Smash Brothers character (and because he's really simple in design).

Here's the first attempt that I'm not terribly embarrassed to show anyone. It's Kirby having eaten my current avatar.

I was thinking of putting it into my signature, but I wanted to hear opinions and advice from others before doing so. What are some ways I can improve it? Or improve in general?

I really really wanna learn.

(Also, I hope this is the right place for this kind of thing  )

Thanks! I thought that about the pauldrons, too, but like you, I have no idea what it is that makes them weird.

Anyway, why would this go in the Oots Style thread? It has nothing to do with stick-figures or characters in the Oots comic.

EDIT: I made the pauldrons bigger and thickened the lines around them slightly. Does this look better?

It is, as I would define, an oots style avatar. But each to their own, I suppose...

Looks a bit better. but I think it's the fact that they're pure black, which always gets me on avatars...But if you like it, that's what matters.

Pretty sure he's aiming for this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby_%28character%29), which isn't OOTS. For which it's pretty accurate, although it probably should be pink-er and have slightly bigger arms. Good work!

Well, so long as the people over at that thread won't have a problem with me putting it there...

But about the black! What is a good alternative to pure black? Do you have any advice on how to make it look more...armor-y? I guess 'metallic' would be the word? Any filters/gradients/etc?

I know he's going for Kirby, but the style of art reminds me of oots...The oots avatar showcase isn't just for oots related things, it's for the style as well...

I am well aware of that (none of my contributions to the thread have been vaguely OOTS-related :smallamused:), but personally I feel there's a fairly big difference between Kirby and OOTS style. But, no matter; it seems like it's staying here anyway :smalltongue:

As for making the armour look like dark metal, rather than black, make it a very dark grey, and people will assume its black but you'll still be able to do shading. To give it a metallic effect, make some highlights with almost-transparent white objects overlapping your main object and shade the darker areas.

As a (brief) example, here's an example of a sphere:

http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1841/sphererb4.png

As it happens, that looks more like plastic, and the highlights are the wrong shape, but hopefully that makes some sense.

Sorry about not realising the reason for the dark skin... it was past midnight

Thank you for the additional advice, Axis. I'm trying it out as I type, but haven't really gotten it to work right yet :smallannoyed: . His armor just looks like it's angry at something.

But, I'll keep at it! I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

He's just low riding :P He's hip!

Bistected8: Pretty good. The shirt looks like it has random lines scribbled on it though, intentional?
I also see that you've used two kinds of shading for the hair. The kind of strandy shading that you've used on the top halfish of the hair, and more of a cell shade that you used for the highlight and at the bottom...I'd advise sticking to one or the other, it makes it look a lot neater, therefor better, in the long run.

Thanks, the lines are supposed to be seams (its supposed to be leather), I also tried to texture it (basically by drawing all the lines with the pen tool and setting the result of a quick google image search as the texture) to look like leather.
