You add &postcount=x after the link, where x is the number of the post you want to link to.

This (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4736649&postcount=2) links Ego Slayer's post:

Depends on the Operating System and software you have running on your computer.

For instance, on Mac OS X, "Command-Shift-3" will take a full size screenshot of your entire monitor. You'd probably want to scale it down in whatever image editor you use before posting it, though.

I don't know what options are available on Windows.

Most windows keyboards have a convenient print screen (prt sc/prnt scr) key that copies it to the clipboard.

There are also software that can be used to take partial screen dumps etc.

I usually use a function of Paint Shop Pro to make screenshots. But there are also lots of other programs out there. One is called "Fraps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraps)", which is also available as a freeware version.

You can also do what I do:

Hit the quote button on the post that I wanna link to.
Copy the 7-digit quote number from the first line of the text field.
Go back to the post that I'm writing.
Type
relevant word(s).
Replace "XXXXXXX" with the 7-digit quote number.

This may seem overly complex, but it's handy for keeping intra-forum links very small, which allows me to put a lot of links in my signature.

You can also hit the Quote button and then hit the link labeled with the thread name at the top of the post form; it will lead back to the post you're quoting, like so: Your post. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4741022#post4741022)

This causes the browser to jump to the post within the context of the thread. If you just want that post and to not see the rest of the thread, do what Ego so succinctly pointed out.

Damn, you're right. I always forget those last two steps.
Although I'm not sure if "???" is really a step, per se.

Not correct, the reason you are showing a single post there is because you are using showpost.php. The actual post number is 4736649 and the p=4736649 is what is telling the software which post to show.

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4736649&postcount=2

Using showpost.php links to a single post only. If you want to link to the entire thread but anchor to a certain post, you can use showthread.php.

http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4736699#post4736699

Note the two differences there, one uses t=88237 and the other p=4736699. t is the thread number and p is the post number. The advantage of using the post number is that the link will not break if we, for example, move the post to a different thread.

You can use these same numbers with the [post] and [thread] bbCode.
