[18:55] Firestorm IX: This PC cannot connect to that hard drive type, it's a SATA HDD and this PC is IDE only
[18:56] Firestorm IX: The HDD is fine, so if I had a PC that could run a SATA HDD, I'd be cool
[18:56] Ann: zat went vaguely over my head, but okay
[18:56] Firestorm IX: Hmm
[18:56] Firestorm IX: Did you ever watch Power Rangers?
[18:56] Ann: is this going to be a terrible metaphor?
[18:57] Firestorm IX: My computer is like, the Season 2 Megathunderzord. The component Thunderzords cannot be used in the Season 1 Megazord, even though they all have analogous parts in the Season 1 Megazord, being each upgrades of the original 5 zords. Ignore the Dragon/Tigerzord for purposes of this analogy.
[18:57] Ann: ...wow
[18:58] Ann: wow.

Dude as a Power Rangers fan in his 20s who still has his original toys in individual display cases in his bedroom that analogy made my whole day/week. Now the nostalgia made me sad. :smallfrown:

p.s. Damn. Maybe I should just end it all now...

Haha, that was a pretty great analogy. Plus, season 2-ish power rangers was awesome. To this day I watch action movies and often think, "Tommy could take care of this so much better."

So your HD is from a new computer, and you're trying to use it with an older computer?

I think a little more of the conversation would make this easier to understand.

Still an awesome analogy when I don't understand at all.

Don't. It's a bad idea.

...Okay, I'm going to be up all night thinking about how that managed to be simultaneously horrible, awesome, stupid and brilliant.
This is like contemplating a koan.

Don't. It's a bad idea.

Thank you for the concern.

Since I am supposedly over six times likelier of going that way I like to make humor out of it. Makes you much less worried about such things, and more ready to deal with such facts.

This is like contemplating a koan.

Ahem.
If you have ice cream I will give you some.
If you have no ice cream I will take it away from you.
That is an ice cream koan.

That's like an analogy bat drinking nostalgia nectar in the tropical pop culture reference forest.

My face nearly melted off from the sheer epic level of geekery contained in that analogy.... The fact that I actually got the analogy slightly scares me but oh well

The best part is that he's a professional martial arts instructor. I wonder how often some 20-something walks into his dojo to learn and goes "...HOLY CRAP IT'S THE GREEN/WHITE/RED/BLACK RANGER."

Heh.

In one of the local Debate TV shows that my school participated in, the MC was the Green Ranger from some season of Power Rangers or another. It was wicked
