How many SAN checks do you think you'd have to take from watching this video?

That's creepy as heck. Do they really show this to kids back then?

But also really cool  Wonder what did they smoke when they made that.

There's good moral from that, that's for sure.

Don't run away from home or you'll be chased by very creepy jazz singing ghosts...

Even if they give you awful food.

The mama cat ghost and her kittens are what really creep me out.

Eh, that cartoon's a typical example of Flanderized Nightmare Fuel - it you're not a kid and it scares you, you really are soft.

Catchy song.

That's it? That's tame for the early Boops! But, as a big Fleischer Brothers and Calloway fan, I have to say that that is one of the greatest cartoons of all time.

They need to start airing these in the day for kids and college students to watch. Surreal, hallucinatory and very funny! It would be a hit!

@Tengu

It's not 'Creepy' creepy for me, but more 'Awesome' creepy in the line of Shoggoth on the roof musical.

anyway, my point still stands.

Why we don't have these kind of cartoon in our youth.

Ah, creepy in a positive, not really scary way. Good, that I agree with.

That was funny.

Catchy tunes and cartoon spooks aren't that creepy. Granted, if you're really young I can imagine getting freaked out a bit, after all it happened to me on occasion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCnV62h2nn0&feature=related) when I was a kid, although it's hard for me to imagine that now days.

And then there's stuff that's just weird (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqi5F5MqqTQ). Who made this thing, anyway?

Since we're talking Fleischer Brothers, let' me show some of the stuff they did without Betty Boop. Here's "Mariutch", which came mostly out of the mind of top Fleischer animator Myron "Grim" Natwick.

Hey here's a question, is Betty Boop a Maniac Pixie Dream Girl (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ManicPixieDreamGirl)?

So, am I pretty much the only long time fan on the forum?

Betty Boop is a good music: if you analyze just its surface intellectually you don't get much, but if you just listen there are a million points of interest.

The song is St. James Infirmary sung by Cab Calloway. Love the backgrounds. I think it is the best Betty Boop cartoon out there (except of course the tropical one(Coconut island?):smallwink:)

No mention of Swing, You Sinners?

Some of the most epic spooky mayhem of any classic cartoon. Twice the wacked-out ghosts and monsters in Minnie the Moocher, and a really dark, weird little story with a GREAT song.

No mention of Swing, You Sinners?

I wanted to plug some of their lesser known stuff. But "Swing, You Sinners" is classic! Here's a version with better video quality:
