The Rules.
Please Read Them!

In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first.

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.
2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.
4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details

:elan:Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! :elan:

This thread is for random discussion, not random chit chat. People have set up an unofficial IRC chat thingy (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12321) for that sort of thing. Not only will you not annoy the people here, you will also help increase the popularity of the IRC chat. It's win/win/win!

Be not unkind, and may enjoyment flow post-haste!

So... UEA, Bangor and... Kent? My philosophy teacher reccomends Kent.

Course where?

200 characters to go! I've got to hack off two hundred more characters off this statement and I'm watching QI. And reading.
And I'm so going to have to do my French homework tomorrow. And it's a listening. And French is first. Copying time maybe.

v: beat you. And I'd love to do something like that. The oddest I've ever done was sing Bohemian RHapsody with about six or seven other people.

I've been doing other boogies. I've just never done a new thread blessing boogie before.
Sowwy.:smallfrown:
But it was fun anyhow.

Grah. If I get rid of some thirty odd characters it'll still make sense, but it doesn't sounds as impressive. Bleh. They're going. It's late and DTL, PTL and some other guy's going to be going over everything anyway.

EDIT:
65 booping characters. 65! Infuriating. Honestly, I'm contemplating all sorts of word changes to shorter synonyms, omitting slight details and hacking words into pieces.
I'll change 'children's' to 'short'. That's five characters gone.
See what I'm reduced to?!

And two parties in two nights? That's more than I've been to in ten years.

And I'm annoyed because I want to watch a particular part of a movie and YouTube doesn't have it subtitled. Only dubbed and it makes me shudder. Then again, I could watch it on mute.

Well, I'm too late for the opening of the new thread, but ah well.

However, great thing in Classics today.

We were discussing who might have killed Tiberius' adopted son Germanicus. We needed suspects, and for each one we needed a motive, evidence, and an alibi.

That was when by friend Matt recalled he'd killed many German tribes a few years earlier.

For the next ten minutes, we discussed the possibility of some random German warrior trekking across the Empire to Syria to take vengeance on Germanicus.

Of course, Dr. Bob dismissed it, but there's no denying it;d make a great film.

The Last German, coming soon to a cinema near you!

Wow. That's worse than HP's repairs centre in Singapore. They'll repair what you ask them to repair, but unplug all the fans, or maybe they're too lazy to plug them back in, but at any rate, if you have a desktop, you'll have to plug in all the fans when you get it back. If you have a laptop, and don't know how to open it up, like me, then you're pretty much screwed, and the laptop will overheat for as long as you have it. :smallsigh: :smallannoyed:

The nature of the work is fairly elementary:

I will illustrate my joy in obtaining this seemingly menial occupation with the following equation:

X = T+E+(N2)

Where X is menial labour, T is the roof above my head, E is the food placed between myself and starvation, and N is Naruto related products.

Try:

For an interval α < t < β where t∈ℝ
an(t)dny/dtn + .... + a1(t)dy/dt + a0(t)y = f(t)

It's P_Z. He does that. For my part, I just take that whole mess, add infinity and multiply by Zero. Then I smile calmly to myself and walk away, secure in the knowledge that I will never ever have a job as any type of math-using person.

When I'm doing a maths exercise, I don't call my variables "x", "y" or "z". I call them "Link" or "Sora" or "Phoenix" or anything else, just to mess with my teachers.

This is really funny in vectors.

I disagree. Besides, I remember most of the PC games I've played used the Keyboard, not the mouse. With the exception of Mumorpogers.

*sniff* I miss mumorpogers.... I'd play them so much if it weren't for the fact that they fill my computer with virus.

EDIT: Congrats, righthandless!

What games are you playing that don't require a mouse? Any strategy game, RPG, Shooter, really, anything that is played on the computer requires a mouse.

Have you tried playing a real-time strategy game on a console? It isn't pretty...

I am going to stop now, because I am sounding like a die-hard PC gamer, which I'm not. I love consoles just as much but believe the PC is simply better for some genres.

Apparently the developers have realized that consoles are not great for RTS games, and are taking extra pains to make sure the game works well and still feels like an RTS.

If I knew what half of it meant it would most likely be simple, like factor theorem.

"n∈ℕ is divisible by m∈ℕ if ∃q∈ℕ s.t. n=qm"
Tells you that any natural number (1,2,3,4...) is divisible by another natural number if you end up with a natural number, eg. 9 is divisible by 3 since you end up with 3 without remainder. So yeah, simple stuff.

P.S. Do maths, you can confuse people with it. It is a mighty weapon.

Standby for a complaining teenager who simply needs to talk about some issues somewhere.

So I think I have managed to permanently get myself thrown out of my mom's house. For this to make sense, time for some background about me. When I was about 2 years old my parents got divorced after about 4 years of angry marriage. It's always been like that and I've always known how to deal with it. I try to maintain my neutrality in their arguments because I know I might drive one of them against me. So I spend the weekends at my dad's house and the rest of the week with my mom. It's joint custody so legally they deserve an equal amount of time with me. So today I wanted to go to my dad's house instead of going on Saturday as I usually did. This immensely angered my mom. She claimed that my dad was manipulating me against her, and that I should always ask her for permission if I want to go to my dad, EVEN THOUGH IT'S JOINT CUSTODY. So I started to argue, at which point she told me to leave, and not come back for a month. So I grab some personal belongings and get out of the house. Now the thing is, my mom has a tendency to hold grudges for a really loooooooooooooooong time, and I think this could very well last longer than a month, which pisses me off. As much as I think my mom is wrong, I do still love her and don't want to have to wait several years before I can enter her house again. In summary: ARRRRGH :smallfurious:, and I hope you don't mind me ranting a bit with my issues.

Sucks dude, I'm sorry that you had to go through that. Parents easily let their anger toward their ex cloud their feelings toward their children.

My parents divorced right before I turned 18, but I was lucky that I moved out to my dorm, followed by an apartment, shortly after the divorce. I missed most of the fallout, but my two younger sisters had to deal with the entire backlash.

But yes that was my news for the week/month/year!

Post that pic ASAP Ranna! Please? In the You thread? You'll be the envy of all.

Especially as I have a ridiculous amount of work I should be doing...

Maths Assignment, Physics Project, Drama notes, Computing coursework...

And to top it all, bloody UCAS... University application... Computer Science... possibly Newcastle, if I can get the grades I need. Or Nottingham. Personal statement's done (exactly 47 lines, up to the limit :D), but I need to fill in qualifications, and can't find the papers...

*sob*

Yeah, same here. I've got one whole medieval poster to design for E Lang and write a commentary on it; five pieces of French homework all in for Monday; research for my E Lang coursework (I got to pick a topic i.e. horse riding and suchlike and research it. That being two texts minimum at least sixty years aprt) by some time in a fortnight; practice an ELAT paper; do something I've can't remember what for medieval history; reread Antigone; research daimons and moira, whatever that is; and start my Latin, Old English and Old Norse and Japanese lessons in all serious now.
Most of it by Monday; the rest (bar the foreign language lessons) by Tuesday.
And I've got to go and do something on UCAS that I forgot to do yesterday. Got to add my pending A Levels.
And seeing as I'm starting Youth Theatre tomorrow, I'll have to do it all either today or Sunday evening.

Background: Jibar has an apocolypse scenario for ever letter of the alphabet. Most of these start with the power going out, shortly followed by a major disaster.

Problem 2: Could be a serial killer.

Solution: Power comes back. Jibar stops being crazy hopefully.

Eh, we probably all need professional help Jibbler. No need to worry about it. I've often heard noises at night and wondered if it's someone in the house. Especially if Andre was working nights or out doing something.

If I hear a noise(not an obvious noise like the door closing) downstairs when nobody else is in I go straight for a weapon, usually a metal pole and slowly descend the stairs ready to beat someone half to death, I dread the day someone's actually downstairs, hopefully it'll never happen though.

A katana IS a normal sword.
Personally, I rather like its hand-and-a-half-ness and curved blade. They do tend to be a bit too tip-heavy for my taste, though.

Oregano

We saw some beautiful (if overpriced) weapons at the Ren Fest. The double bladed axe was lovely and had a spike on the end of the handle. I saw a couple of short swords I would've loved to have, but the daggers were my favorite.

This weekend is the best weekend I've had in a long time!

On Friday (er, yesterday) I went to my school's Varsity football game. Even though we didn't win (our rival kicked the butts of every individual football player with a score of 21-7), it was still fun to be there. Then, I slept over at my friend's house and finished the book I'd been reading. Today, I went to the Salvation Army store with that friend with Halloween on our minds and bought some stuff for my costume. Most notably, a pair of amazing red pumps. Actually, I'm not particularly sure what I'm going to be for Halloween, I'm just going to put something extravagant together and hope people think it's a costume. And tomorrow, I'm going to see a play with some drama kids at my school. It'll be fun.

Also, on Wednesday, I went to Barnes & Noble to spend my $50 gift card. I ended up with a bunch of small paperbacks and six dollars left on my card.

So, lately=

im quite mad right now, i had to get my hair cut, cause i had some kind of rash around my neck, so instead of it getting worse cause of my hair rubbing on it(hair was about neck length) i got my sister to cut it. So about 2 minutes into cutting it(was only gonna cut about 2-3 inches) she said she never took a cosmo course or knew wat she was doin with scissors, so i said just give me a brushcut(here i asked for the longest setting on the shaver), but she said my hair was too thick and put on a shorter blade. After i was done I asked if she could cut the sides a bit shorter, so she starts and she scalps me on the side about 1/2inch to far so now i have basicly a brushcut mohawk, from a mullet

Hello! I don't come in here very often but I had to say this:

Does anyone else think it would have been more awesome if in the title the "R" and the "B" were left out to make it extra alliterative. So instead it would be "Aziraphales Actually Alliterative And Awesomely Affluent Andom Anter #104."

I think that would have been funny...

Sometime around RB#69 the mods came in and poked us for not putting the words "Random Banter" in the thread title. I don't know if they would allow that one, but it would be pretty cool.

In other news, I don't feel sick anymore. Eating at the pie place did the trick. That is the last time I listen to my mother when she tells me to eat only some very bland food. Pretty much as soon as I ate a Reuben sandwich I got better. Must be that sauerkraut. Yum.:smallamused:

*cough* Long since thought of, in fact, I've done and/or suggested it twice thrice.

Loveable Lianae's Ludicrous Lampooning Lottery #24
(I spent quite a while trying to come up with two words starting with L that meant random banter to suggest to Lianae, also, we had to shrink it to fit the maximum title length of the old forum software)

Serpentine's Scintillating Sensually and Sinuously Seductive Stochastic Satire #84
(This one was even harder, and what I initially suggested was too long for the new forum software)

VOTE, the Democracy Demon's Devilishly Devious and Decidedly Diabolical Desultory Derision (Random Banter) #100
(Ok, so that title was longer than the board software allowed, I had to change the limit just to fit it in, it was a special occasion!)

Must be the Great North Run (20,000+ eejits spend hours disrupting traffic by running the route of a 20 minute Metro trip, then stink up Newcastle with the reek of stale sweat and Deep Heat afterwards).

Gawd I hate fun runners. They must have some sort of bizarre infectious St. Vitas Dance brain rot going on, a weird affliction that forces them to lurch along in sweaty, red-faced herds. I understand you have to shoot them in the face when you see them, otherwise they bite you and turn you into a mindless jogzombie too. :smallmad:

price + (%tax)(price) = actual cost

(OK, that's percentages, but still...I know I didn't really "get" that till algebra.)

Or ratios. x is to 5 as 5 is to 2000...sometimes you need that.

Or figuring out if the cashier cheated you. I bought four of them and she charged me $16...4x=16...so that's $4 apiece. But the price tag said $3.50. Hey!"
