The Purple are a race of powerful and manipulative summoners. Although native to the Shadowfell, they are natural travellers and are often found with their hands in the affairs and environments of the other planes. Purple are indifferent to the effects of their actions. They prefer to be a shadow to the beings they nudge and simply watch the future unfold. A Purple mind wants nor fears most forms of pleasure or pain. They live just to mess with and control order for no reason or care.
Physically, the Purple are similiar to most humaniods. Their skin is strongly tinted dark purple which gives them their name. Their eyes and hair turn gray at early ages but their skin never seems to wrinkle even after centuries. Purple are naturally slim and prefer to were tight clothes to minize the size off their our shadows.
Puppetry is a major part of Purple society. They create large puppets made of corrupted wood and the flesh of the fallen and magically control them via arcane telepathy and telekinesis. Social status is based on the rarity of the base corpse and leadership can be changed after a succesful creation of a titan or dragon puppet. Years of hunting caused a hatred of Purple by these beings and other rare creatures.

They are nice group of enimies for a random fight in the woods or as "bodyguards and advisors" of high ranked officials who "seem to be acting strange lately."

Haven't read the mechanics, but the fluff is not bad. I have to say, I would have a very hard time taking a race name like "The Purple" seriously as a player. Particularly since it sounds like the plural of this would be "purple" as well, given that this topic isn't entitled "the purples". Either way, I would not be able to avoid giggling every time my GM said "Three Purple [or "Three Purples"] stand before you, puppeteering corpses in various stages of decay".

Why not go for something a little less funny sounding? If you must go for a colour name, Indigo sounds a lot more menacing than Purple and would only mean recolouring them slightly. Otherwise, simply "the Puppeteers" sounds more threatening, albeit cliche. "Puppetmasters" is the same but even more cliche. "The Manipulators" fits all right too. There are numerous other names you could probably come up with.

The funny name actually helped a past campaign back in 3.5. When I introduced the race, the heroes were being offered a job by a paraniod dragon. The players laughed at the names and made their characters mock the Purple as well. Little did they know that the dragon was:
1) already dead
2) being countrolled by a Purple
and
3) The tribe of monsters they were sent to slay were not Purple, but mere hill giants that the Purple wants to make puupets out of... to kill another dragon... and make another puppet

The player underestimated the Purple because of the dumb name. They were later TPK by the Purple, his 2 apprentices, and his 2 black dragon puppets. Then they set the puppets on fire and roasted duck on the flames. The duck overcooked and he teleported to his friend's house for dinner. They never let me DM for a while after that.

You can call them what my cousin calls them, the Twisted Geppettos or the "Twispettos".
