This item seems to be way too powerful for its cost. To summon a huge Scorpion once a day for under a thousand GP, something is very, very wrong. How should I deal with (aside from the hilarity ensues path of Steal Summons)?
Ban it?
Just like you ban starmantle cloaks, thought bottles and amulets of retribution?

What do starmantle cloaks do?
Reflex save to avoid damage from magic weapons(DC=15! for 1/2 damage) and prevents all damage from non-magical weapons(destroying them in the process).

Google is your friend. (ooh, and ninjad, too!)
Having googled it, it makes one immune to non-magical weapons, and gives a DC15 Reflex save any time you would be hit by a magical weapon to take half damage. The cheese is then combining this with an evasion ability.
And yes, the Scorpion is particularly powerful at 700gp. A vermin-oriented druid (if you happen to be playing one) can make good use of it, too.
