reorith and the thousand paper cranes!

i was bored and needed a distraction from my trivial endeavors that occupy my waking moments so i decided to do the most logical thing. attempt to fold one thousand cranes! i started folding paper cranes from some leftover sheets of origami paper, and scraps of magazines. twentyish hours of pointlessly tedious meditation later i was done.

now this isn't the first time i've engaged in this act. this most recent string brings my totally to 10000.

I believe so. I read it in a book way back in elementary school about it. Some chick got cancer or something, and tried to fold 1000 cranes and wish to be better.

... As I remember, this didn't turn out well for her.

That aside, I think it's cool that you can fold those so quickly. That's roughly one crane every 1.2 minutes. I can't even make one.

i just keep the cranes i fold in a couple cardboard boxes in a closet. anything else i fold like flowers or other animal models i usually give to other people.

She made it to 644 before she became too weak to fold paper. They say that her classmates folded the other 356 after her death.

I find origami an interesting art. It seems like it should have some significance, but at the same time, it seems like a sort of throw-away art form. I don't know.

there is some significance with feng shui in the use of the four animal spirits, the tortoise, the tiger, the dragon and the phoenix in regard to color selection and placement within a house.

This is so cool. ^_^ I fold origami compulsively so I figure I must have hit a thousand cranes by now. But I never got around to stringing them all together. And yes, you get a wish. Make it a good one.
