As much of a fan of sad music as I am, I feel there needs to be a foil for the sad songs thread. So, what songs can you rely on to bring you up and make you feel good?

Seriously, thing's borderline transcendent.

I feel fantastic!
And I've never felt as good as how I do right now
Except for maybe when I think of how I felt that day
When I felt the way
That I do right now! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zidiWe9yq88)
And pretty much everything else by Jonathan Coulton. Mr. Fancy Pants, Code Monkey, Re: Your Brains, Chiron Beta Prime, etc.

Offspring. I think a lot of their songs have a definite sardonic twist to them which just pleases me immensely. A lot of their other songs have a dark message, but that pleases me too. Example of the former would be Hit That (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7J5TPXUrj-0), and for the latter, Gotta Get Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrBAYD4kmPo). I also like You're Gonna Go Far, Kid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRxHHZEqwpw) even though I'm not sure how I'd classify it in my mind. Hell pretty much any Offspring song will get me wound up. Sure there's a lot of heavy social commentary, but they make it work for me.
Then there's Kid Rock's All Summer Long (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhjvpGt4r44). The song is just very easy to relate to and fills me with nostalgia for the ol' high school days. Replace "northern Michigan" with "southern Alaska" and it pretty much describes summer after my junior and senior years of high school. A rare exception to my policy of disliking "happy" music.

Yes! Thank you for the pick-me-up, Surly. And don't forget to add Mandelbrot Set to the list of JoCo songs. :smallwink::smallsmile:

Songs that make me grin and dance:
Tequila (Mint Royale Shot) - Terrorvision (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hLQCA2h8kA)
Tiger Feet - Mud (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiuWRqApgZ0)
I love crazy, happy songs. Also! These are less in-your-face upbeat, but they still make me happy for some reason.
Actually It's Darkness - Idlewild (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N5wLZNEl_Q&feature=related)
Gasoline - Audioslave (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqckRQGjzMU)
White Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OI9qcTwRN4)
Sing Sing Sing (With a Swing) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwDN9UMMi3c)
Danger! Danger! High Voltage - Electric Six (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a4gyJsY0mc) - This one is the video and is probably definitely NSFW! I find it HI-larious.

Sunshine - Atmosphere (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvY38j7JdCk)
I have never found a more accurate description of how beautiful a summer day can be. Song starts off sounding like it's going to be depressin but give it a minute :)
Others I can think of off the top of my head would be:
Simon & Garfunkel - The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)
Beastie Boys - Body Movin'
Fiona Apple - Waltz (Better Than Fine), Better Version of Me, Extraordinary Machine.
Sublime - What I Got
Goldfinger - Spokesman
Reel Big Fish - Pretty much everything. Very few songs by RBF are depressing (except maybe Where Have You Been?)
Busdriver - Pompous Posies! Your Party's No Fun!, Imaginary Places, Stylin' Under Pressure, Somethingness, Casting Agents & Cowgirls, and The Troglodyte Wins.
MC Frontalot - Final Boss
Counting Crows - St. Robinson In His Cadillac Dream
They Might Be Giants - so very many... Letterbox, Birdhouse in Your Soul, Istanbul (Not Constantinople), Particle Man, Nothing's Gonna Change My Clothes, Rhythm Section Want Ad, The Famous Polka, Cowtown, Mr.Me, Pencil Rain, Shoehorn With Teeth, It's Not My Birthday, The Lady is a Tramp, Weep Day, Become a Robot... This list alone would take pages.
I'm sure there are more, but I really can't think of them right now.

My favorite song (Moskau, by Dschinghis Khan) always cheers me up, but when it comes to songs that are naturally "happy", Weird Al is good, and also faux-Indian artist Dr. Bombay (and his other alias, the faux-Scotsman Dr. MacDoo).

Harold the Barrel, by Genesis, always puts a smile on my face. It may be a really depressing subject matter, but the completely inappropriate bouncy happy tune it's sung to just makes it all so amusing.
Pretty much anything I can sing to makes me happy. And I can sing to many many many songs. :smalltongue:
