Writing a star wars book?

Okay, there are hundreds of star wars books out on shelves, which makes me wonder. Who's permission do you need to write a star wars novel? I mean, most of the books are written by half-wits who know nothing of the star wars universe.

You need this company's (http://www.lucasfilm.com/divisions/licensing/) permission if you're going to write/publish a Star Wars book. And you'd probably need to have been published before. They don't just let any hack write their novels. Just hacks that have proven they can write Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels. :smalltongue:

The Expanded Universe is the umbrella term. Essentially, GL declared that the six films are "his" version of Star Wars and he's washed his hands of the rest. It should be noted, however, that George Lucas retains artistic control and can make decrees about what can and can't be done.

This question is often asked on forums I've visited.

The simple answer is "you have to wait for them to ask you".

So you have to be someone who's already written and had published fantasy, sci-fi or tie-in fiction.
