So after singing Susie Q (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mxaA-bJ35s) to a girl named Susie from one of my classes... I got to thinking on the subject.
Any good songs that are pretty much staples for this sort of thing?
I'm also reminded of an ex of mine named Jessica who was named after the song that was playing during her conception.
Ed: Any recommendations for an Alexandra or Alex?

Well, there's Michelle by the Beatles, but that rather requires that they be French. :smalltongue:

You could go "Top Gunish" with "You've lost that loving feeling" if you're in a group.

If "I'm Your Man" by Leonard Cohen doesn't fit the bill, then nothing does!
Or, "So Long, Marianne" if you want the song/conception congruence. I can't tell if that idea is appealingly magical or creepy.

The name "Layla" always makes me think of the song. Dunno how well that'd work as a method of flirting, though. >.>

Actually did that at a dance back in High School. I was Maverick and my buddy was Goose. Repeated it in college with the same friend, didn't work as well since the recipient was an exchange student from Ukraine and didn't exactly understand what was going on.
Angel Eyes by the Jeff Healey Band is a good one.

They actually get together the entire freshman class during orientation week and get all the girls on the front steps of the big ol' neoclassical building and have all the guys do it as a round to serenade the ladies. This was at my old school. Not there now, might go back after this hiatus.

Hmm, YouTube gave me a song in spanish that seems to be about a girl named Alexandra ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCs6tBsmUFA
Or you could take this german song by the great punk band Die Toten Hosen ... however it is about Alex from A Clockwork Orange :smallwink: ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X-yqPhItr8

Ooh, I feel homophobic tension growing in the air. :smallwink: Coincidentally, my favorite love song of all time is Your Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13GD78Bmo8s) by Sir Elton.

I'm Your Boogie Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4guKyppFbSU) probably counts. I don't even like disco and it's been stuck in my head since I got the Watchmen soundtrack.

Gay bar by Electric Six is what you need. Maybe the version with Girl! rather than You! as the first line.

I've also always liked the opening couple of lines in Tull's Paradise Steakhouse-
I'd like to take you
To the edge of every morning
On a magic eiderdown...
