My Aussie friends have been growin' a Mo' ever November for a few years now, and finally I'm gettin' in on the action.
Movember (http://www.movember.com/) is an International Mustache Growing Event to raise funds and awareness to fight men's cancers, prostate and testicular cancer in particular.
Basically, you have the opportunity to do your best impression of Tom Selleck (http://thankskillingmovie.com/avatars/selleckmagnum.jpg) or Rollie Fingers (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LJvUULi51sI/SfP6cXpRhpI/AAAAAAAAMDg/KCCLZRqhK5Y/s400/Fleer+Showcase+Rollie+Fingers.jpg) for a month and have an awesome reason for getting away with it in public.
So - who's with me? I'm gonna track my progress in the picture thread here and on Facebook.
Remember, the first of Movember!

Fighting men's cancer? I though movember was something about depression?
Hmm, if it's cancer then... well, I'd love to participate but I'm currently sporting about three months worth of growth which is shorter than most peoples "I shaved last night." I could still donate a little, though.

Imagine, if you will, a school so restrictive that one of the teachers actually has a drawer full of disposable razors for when students come in with what he calls "inappropriate facial hair" - basically, unless you have a religious/cultural reason not to be clean-shaven, you are clean shaven. Full stop.
This is a school which has actively encouraged all of its members (including teachers of both sexes) to take part in Movember.
I love my school.

Hmm, I can't participate because I'm already growing out a mustache now. :/

I suggest becoming a Sikh.
I'd participate, but I know that I have so little facial hair that it can hardly be called a beard, let alone a mustache. I suggested to my dad to shave his beard but not trim his mustache and he very quickly said NO!

It's perfect! You've gotta start with a freshly-shorn face on November First anyway!
I've formed the Mo'waukee Mo'litia, if anyone is interested in joining up. It's basically a fun excuse to look awesomely crazy for a month and raise money for a really good cause.

My facial hair grows fast, but its scraggly and not thick enough for a full mustache. :smallfrown:
My best friend can grow a goatee and some crazy mutton chops, though... :smalleek:
So how does this help fight cancer? Just by spreading awareness? :smallconfused:

Partially that, partially donating and getting others to donate and partially by registering so they can use the number of people participating as part of their eldritch rites?

But what if I'm working on an epic stache already? Can't I just shine my lip warmer and show it off to the world as is? Do I really have to shave it off? Well, anyone who knows me knows I'm a stach enthusiast.
Incidentally, I've got a buddy that's a survivor, we call him The Uniballer, and that's been his costume every year since he got cancer (4 years, he's 23 now). You don't want to see the costume, but I'm gonna have to smile and have fun this weekend anyways. We can't tell him not to wear it, cause he'll get jokingly belligerent and start talking about his remaining "unit" and it's loneliness, for hours, and no one wants that.

I'm already sporting the Internationally-Renowned 'Stache of Power. Now sporting Universal Translation Widget for all your one-way miscommunication needs, not available in English. Kids is posin', son. Kids is posin'. Us real Mustache Men got no time for dis stick.
Well, I can't help here like I helped during boobiethon so I'll just toss some donation through the site next week.

I've been trying to grow an awesome steampunk mustache for ages. Well, about two years now, but the hairs are so far reluctant. But I WILL SHOW THEM, THEY LAUGHED AT ME!

Stifle! Those of us blessed with amazing facial hair should not mock our struggling brethren. Mustachioed men are superior, and make more money than non bald faced men, so to everyone who can't grow a fine face piece, I wish you luck.

Hmm, I've never let my facial hair stand for more then three days.
So I have no idea how well I'm able to grow a 'stache.....

I've always loved "[Reason]. Your argument is invalid" pictures, so here's probably the coolest one with facial hair.

When I was camping over the summer, I assayed a convincing 'Russian anarchist/Bolshevik circa 1900' beard.
Nostalgic romanticism is crushed before the inevitable dialectical progress and strength of the workers' whiskers!

Nonsense! Our mustaches mark us as the best of men (third only to women) and therefore the baldfacies should bow down in subservience to their rightful rulers!

Cute picture, but that man has allowed his mustache to be diluted into the weakness that is a beard!

Due to work I have to remain clean shaven, else I'd be glad to participate in either Movember or Novembeard.
If I follow in my dad's line, I could have a full beard in a week. If my grandfather's (on my mom's side), I'm better off staying sheared - so I'm kinda curious to see which way I go.
Perhaps I'll take a week off of work at some point so I can conduct some research.
EDIT: @^ Nonsense. You've got Burt Reynolds (http://scrapetv.com/News/News%20Pages/Entertainment/Images/burt-reynolds-smokey-and-the-bandit.jpg), Doc Holiday (http://samsmedicalfunds.com/uploads/doc_holiday.gif) and Errol Flynn (http://www.zap2it.com/media/photo/2009-08/48982670.jpg) for starters.

I feel your pain, my brother! I, too, am restricted in my mustachery by my workplace, though to a lesser degree. May the Mustache Gods smile on you in your efforts.

Much thanks. In the meantime, I may pick up one of these (http://www.beardhead.com/), though it won't be nearly the same.
