View Full Version : Project Beijerinck

You all awaken to the cool, sterile smell of antiseptic and circulating cold air. You open your eyes slowly, first one, then the other, and immediatly wish you hadn't. A wave of nausea hits, as well as a throbbing headache, like a migraine worse then you thought possible. After a moment or two, your eyes adjust to the flourescent lighting, and you feel the strength to sit up. Or look around, at any rate. You recognise your surroundings as a hospital room, and from the looks of it, you're the pacient. You suddenly remember all the events of last night, like a vivid nightmare. You find yourself bandaged together, though, and the worst of the injuries seem to have healed. After a few more moments, you feel well enough to stand.
OOC: There are two beds in each room. The following characters share a room: Nightfire and Cyberpunk, Doc and Vigor, and Jake and Firestarter. The rooms are empty save for you all.
If you're wondering why a sentence is in bold, don't worry about it. Oh, and no metagaming! Remember, no powers yet!
Have fun all, and welcome to Project Beijerinck!
01-27-2010, 11:15 PM
Oh god... who has been hitting me in the head while I was out?
Tommy awkwardly tries to sit up in bed despite his pounding headache. The room appears to be spinning around like a carnival ride. The vile glow of the fluorescent lighting stabs into his brain. As the room stops revolving around him and instead takes up a minor jiggling blur he is able to actually see where he is.
"Hey... ugh my aching skull..." He mumbles, "Hey, are you awake?"
01-27-2010, 11:50 PM
Christ, my head hurts worse than that time Nathan convinced me to drink a whole bottle of vodka.
Sam slowly sits up after hearing Tommy's voice.
Yeah... is there any water? I've got some wicked cottenmouth over here.
She asks, looking around the room.
Where the hell are we anyway? I can't remember anything after we won.
01-27-2010, 11:54 PM
Andrew's head spins and burns with a sharp pain as the memories come back. He looks around, taking mental note of his surroundings.
"Oh God, my head hurts. Hey, where's my bag?"
He sees another guy from his school in the bed next to him. He wonders if anybody else was hurt? That was a pretty big accident, and it seemed like it just happened. His wounds looked pretty well healed, though, so he must have been out a while. His attention returns to his roommate.
"Hey, what's your name? I'm Drew. Does your head hurt as much as mine?"
01-27-2010, 11:55 PM
"We won something? Last thing I remember was a car crash." He shakes his head to try to clear the last of his nausea. "You're... uh... Samatha? Right?" It takes him a moment to put a name to the voice.
01-28-2010, 12:07 AM
The game. I guess your head is killing you too huh?
I really hope I don't have a concussion. Is this a hospital? Why am I in a room with this kid?
Uhh, yeah, I'm Sam.
She answers, snapping out of her reverie when he asks her name.
01-28-2010, 12:16 AM
"Oh. I did not attend the game. And yes, my head feels like someone has been hitting it with a hammer while I was unconscious. From what I gather you are in a similar state of discomfort."
With a small sigh Tommy swings his legs over the edge of the hospital bed and takes a closer look around, now that his disorientation is beginning to pass.
"As we are both similarly injured and have been brought to the same room I am assuming we were involved in the same collision. Tell me, where you in a car accident as well?"
01-28-2010, 12:23 AM
Not that I remember, although I guess if I hit my head that isn't especially unusual.
Sam gets up and begins walking slowly around the room, trying to shake off the last of the disorientation.
Assuming we were in the same collision? What happened? How many cars were involved?
She asks Tommy as his words started to sink in.
01-28-2010, 12:30 AM
"I am having difficulties remembering details of the crash. As you said, head trauma. Perhaps we should see if there is a nurse about or perhaps charts with details on our injuries."
With that Tommy wobbles unsteadily to his feet and looks around the room.
I think at this point we need some DM input. What exactly are the contents of the room aside from myself and Nightfire?
01-28-2010, 02:47 AM
With a groan of pain Patrick pulls himself up from the bed he is laying on. Moving to a sitting position he places both feet firmly on the ground and gently touches the horrible burn on his.
Wait... what burn?
The memories of last night flood back, overwhelming his senses. He lifts up his shirt and looks at his chest. There are come bandages, but not nearly as many as there should be. Hell, some of the burns had already healed. Hell! He should be dead, or at least totally covered in scars!
But he wasn't. And he had no idea why. It wasn't a dream, the bandages proved that. But he knew fire. The moment he saw that wonderful orange glow racing up to his body, and felt the sting of hungry flames feeding on his body he knew there was no way he'd survive.
Such a wonderful, friendly color...
Shaking his head with a sigh Patrick looked around the room he was in. He wasn't able to take everything in... his head was still too muddled. But he did notice someone else in the room with him.
"Hey, are you alright?"
01-28-2010, 03:01 AM
Jake awakes with a start, ripped from a dreamless sleep by the smell of antiseptic. Sitting up quickly, however, makes the room around him spin like crazy, and he slumps back down, groaning softly and clutching his head, which feels like it's being hit by a hammer again and again.
After a few minutes, his surroundings finally hold still for long enough that he can take a look around. Yeah, he's definitely in a hospital... bit by bit, the events that presumably brought him here come back to him. There was a big accident, with his car in the middle of it... he doesn't remember suffering any bad injuries, however. Why is he here, then?
Shakily, he leaves the bed and gets to his feet, to inspect himself. He's been bandaged in a few places, but doesn't find any injuries. How long has he been here?
His attention turns to the bed next to his, where there's a scrawny boy, looking in no worse or better shape than Jake. "Hey man... you awake?"
01-28-2010, 03:07 AM
Patrick gives his head a nod before pulling himself off the bed and onto his feet. He keep a hand on the bed for a moment to catch himself if he falls... when he doesn't, he lets go of the bed and runs his hand through his hair.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm up. Dizzy but... up." He'd been dizzy like this before. Messing with some gasoline that he drained from his Dad's car. He didn't get caught, but the smell made his head spin. He used it to light the trashcan in the ally... it burned nicely that time.
And then it dawns on him. Silently he checks his pockets (If he has any), and then gives the room a look over. Did he still have his lighters and matches?
01-28-2010, 03:23 AM
"Yeah, the name's Will, nice to meet you Drew. Sorry it couldn't be under better cicumstances..."
Will sits up with a nod towards Drew but after a moment freezes with a terrified look on his face.
Will jumps out of bed and begins to look around worry on his face, his eyes stop at Drew in his panic.
"Have you see a girl, fourteen, brown hair, green eyes come in here while I was out of it?!"
01-28-2010, 03:25 AM
Jake slowly begins walking around the room, checking if anything hurts besides his head... so far, though, he seems to be fine. "Were you in that huge crash too? Man, what a mess..."
01-28-2010, 06:37 AM
The room around you isn't very large, perhaps the size of a large bedroom. Looking around, you can see a small sink, with various medical supplies in the cabinets around it and on the counter. Nestled in the corner is a small TV, though it doesn't look like it would get many channels. The blinds in your room were pulled, catching most of the evening light. A paper lies folded up on a table between the beds, blaring the headline: Devastating Car Crash Kills Four, Hospitalizes Seven. The date of the newspaper reads 11/17, two days after the game. From the hallway beyond, you can hear people conversing, and you can hear that people are up in the rooms beside you. You can see your own medical chart attached to the foot of your bed.
01-28-2010, 11:20 AM
"Samantha. Look at this." says Thomas, holding up today's paper. "I think the headline is referring to us."
As memories of the crash begin to return it dawns on him that something is not right. Especially once he remembers the downed power line that curled around his leg right before he blacked out. A typical high tension power line has a voltage of 440,000 volts and 250 Amps. A single Amp is enough to kill and with such high voltage even if he by some miracle survived his body should have been cooked from the inside out.
Yet here I am. With only a headache to show for my troubles two days later.
"If that is today's paper then we have been unconscious for two days. Details of the crash are returning to me now. I remember... stepping on a power line after I crawled out of the wreck...
I should not be alive right now." He says with an expression of puzzlement. He shakes his head a moment later. "Regardless, it says seven were hospitalized. Perhaps they are nearby?"
01-28-2010, 11:27 AM
I'd like to assume that all our rooms are identical, for brevity's sake?
"Whoa calm down man; I just woke up a minute ago, I haven't seen anyone, sorry.
Drew spies the newspaper on the table, picks it up, and starts to read.
"From the looks of it, we've been out awhile, I bet our families are back at home. I wonder if there's some kinda bell to ring to get the doctors in here?"
Drew doesn't mention the four dead from the headline at first; no reason to get upset until we know the details, he thinks. He searches around his bed for a buzzer.
01-28-2010, 01:16 PM
Samantha turns on the sink and drinks a couple mouthfuls of water.
Oh, thank god. That cottonmouth was starting to piss me off. Does it list any names for the injured or the dead? Damn I hate not being able to remember anything.
She says, shaking her head as if trying to clear out some cobwebs.
Ow, that was a bad idea. I feel like I'm hung over or something.
She groans, putting her hand against her forhead.
01-28-2010, 03:30 PM
"Yeah, you're right... sorry for overreacting, guess I just don't like waking up in a hospital."
He walks over to the door, without stopping to read the newspaper, he turns back to Drew and says.
"I'm going to go look for someone to explain what happened, should be a Doctor nearby. You want to come?"
With that he tries to open the door and look out of the room.
01-28-2010, 04:03 PM
Those who read the paper:
Devastating Car Crash Kills Four, Hospitalizes SevenNo one expected the Fallon High's winning night to end in such tragedy. As the students made their celebratory procession home, a United States Corporate Pharmacueticals supply truck experienced a momentary breaking failure, and forced it to collide with the cars crossing the intersection. The truck's fuel tank was ruptured, and the flammable liquid set alight by an unknown cause. Though emergency response teams arrived in time to bring seven victims to St. Joseph's Hospital's intensive care unit, they were too late to help four. May James Anderson, Alicia Middleton, Scott Morgan, and Peter Williams live in our hearts and our minds forever.
Vigor: You notice a small call button, that you presume would alert one of the nurses.
Doc: On the other side of the door, you can see a male doctor conversing with two female nurses, all looking over presumably a pacient's file. The look up when you open the door, and one of the nurses exclaims, "Hey! One of them's actually up!"
OOC: Sorry about the wait, here's the OOC (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7782719#post7782719) thread.
01-28-2010, 04:16 PM
"Hey to you too? Can you please tell me what's happened and how long I'm going to be here? If it's not too much trouble."
He glances around looking for a phone.
"Also have I had any visitors while I was out of it?"
01-28-2010, 05:46 PM
Tommy makes his wobbling way to the door with newspaper still in hand. "It says that May James Anderson, Alicia Middleton, Scott Morgan, and Peter Williams were all killed in the collision. In addition it seems the accident was caused by a Pharmaceutical truck." He grasps the door handle and limps into the hallway.
"I demand Asprin, and pants." He annouonces, noting that he is attired in a hospital gown.
01-28-2010, 05:59 PM
Pharmaceutical truck? I hope we didn't inhale any poisonous fumes or anything.
Sam follows Tommy out into the hall.
Who's that other kid? He looks familiar. Must have seen him around school or something.
Hey Doc, where are our families? The paper said we'd been out for two days, I'd like to let my mom know I'm okay.
01-28-2010, 07:06 PM
His headache slowly subsiding, Jake begins doing some stretching exercises, to get himself fully awake and to make sure that all his parts are still in good working order. Indeed, he seems to be in perfect health, except for a sore right index finger.
As his eyes wander around the room, he spots the medical chart at the foot of his bed, and decides to read it more closely - given his condition, he has no idea why he's here at all. He's pretty good in biology and has taken a first aid class, so that shouldn't be too hard to decipher...
Rolling Medicine to tell what my chart says, if it's in the medical equivalent of technobabble: [roll0]
01-28-2010, 07:06 PM
Jake slowly begins walking around the room, checking if anything hurts besides his head... so far, though, he seems to be fine. "Were you in that huge crash too? Man, what a mess..."
With a small sigh of annoyance Patrick quits his search for his lighter and matches. They weren't in the room, nor on his body. It wasn't exactly surprising, but...
"Tell me about it. I was just walking home when the whole thing happened. Jeez..."
Patrick walks over to the door and tries to open it. He honestly doesn't feel like waiting for a nurse.
01-28-2010, 09:32 PM
The doctor and nurses look surprised as so many of you emerge from your rooms. The doctor, Dr. Ramierez, if his tag is any indication, says to all in a friendly, yet official way, "Oh, good, you're all up! Here we were thinking you were gonna sleep the rest of the week away. I'm sure you're all pretty confused, but I'm supposed to bring you to the MRI room as soon as you wake up. Are the others awake, do you know? We can answer some of your question's on the way. "
One of the nurses nods at Tommy. "I'm sorry, we can't give you any medication until we know your condition is stable, though, you're parents left a change of clothes for when you awoke. I'll call your folks. They'll be elated to hear you're up, and I'll bring your clothes to the MRI room."
Dr. Ramirez enters Jake's and Drew's rooms and gives them the same general speech he did to all of you.
It isn't too hard for you to interpret the chart. Most of it contains mundane facts: Height, weight, age, allergies, medical history, and the like. However, a section of the page is devoted to "Patient's Illness" under which is scribbled "Severe blunt trauma to the Parietal bone.", which you remember from an anatomy class is the back of the skull. Under the "treatment" is written simply: "Surgery"
01-28-2010, 10:43 PM
I don't really think me having an MRI done without my mom being around is a good idea. I'm a minor, and I've obviously suffered some kind of head trauma. So no offense Doc, but I'm not climbing into any metal tubes until I've talked to my family.
01-29-2010, 01:45 AM
Well, that answers that. As the doctor enters, Jake gives him a weak smile. After the speech, he comes along quite willingly, but he does have a question. "Did they already perform surgery?"
01-29-2010, 03:19 AM
Will follows along willingly hoping to get this done quickly. As he walks he asks.
"Did any of my family leave me any clothes?"
01-29-2010, 04:41 AM
Patrick gives his head a nod before answering the Doctor.
"Yeah, the quicker the better. But I need to give my Pa a call before we do any of that. Knowing him, he won't be settled till he hears my voice anyways."
01-29-2010, 08:26 AM
"I will take my MRI now. I've been hospitalized for two days already. Clearly my parents are well aware and will have given consent for treatment by now." Tommy says brusquely. He does not care one way or another about contacting his parents and merely hopes to get the testing over and done with so that he may leave as quickly as possible.
01-29-2010, 10:23 PM
Dr. Ramirez looks a little awkward. Clearly he wasn't used to filling in teenage pacients who were just in a comotose. "Uh... that paper is old. Like, a little over a week old." He looks to Sam, and mistakes her impacience for nervousness. "Don't worry, it's natural for most kids to be afraid, but it's basically just a giant camera that takes pictures of the inside of you. Your parents have signed the consent forms," he says now, speaking to all of you, "but we can wait until you talk to you parents, if you want. Although, the scans will take a bit of time, so Thomas, if you want to start now, I can take you over the the MRI room, and Ms. Byer here," he indicates one of the nurses, "Can bring the rest of you to the front desk. There are phones there that you can use to call your folks. Your clothes will be should be there, including you, William. Thomas, I'll ask someone to bring yours up to the scan room."
Assuming none of you have any objections, he begins to lead the group down the hall. The hospital is quite modern, each of the more laboratory-based rooms that you soon pass have expensive looking equiptment visible through glass windows.
01-29-2010, 10:57 PM
Does he really think that any of us don't know what an MRI does?
Clothes and a phone would be nice.
She says, following Ms. Byer.
01-29-2010, 10:59 PM
"Yes yes, very well. A week, two days. It's immaterial in the long run. The point is we have been comatose for an extended period of time after being exposed to dangerous pharmaceuticals. I have a splitting headache and we had best make sure I don't have cancer or something." Thomas rambles while following after the doctor. "I would hope that you can put us in contact with the owner of the truck in question. Legal action may be required. Recompense for our horrible ordeal you know."
01-30-2010, 05:49 AM
Jake rubs his forehead with one hand. "We can worry about whose fault it was later... for now, I just want this over with. And maybe some aspirin if that's possible..." He glances to the doctor. "It said on my medical chart that I was going to be operated on... did that already happen?" He carefully tries to feel the back of his head, where there was supposed to be an injury.
01-30-2010, 05:10 PM
Drew joins the group as they move through the hallway. An immediate MRI seems a little strange, since they could've just done them in the time they were all out of it. He decides a phone call home is best step to take right now.
Jake's statement surprises him.
"Operate? Doctor, if we've been through surgery, why aren't any of our parents around? People don't just leave their kids alone in a hospital after a big incident like this."
As they walk, he looks around for anything out of the ordinary.
Notice check [roll0]
01-30-2010, 06:37 PM
Will follows behind Drew, wanting to get the MRI over and done with as fast as possible.
"If you're scared of an MRI Drew I'll watch you're back while you're in the machine," Will says with a smile placing a hand on Drew's shoulder.
When he thinks the doctor isn't watching he gives Drew a serious look trying to convey he's actually as worried as Drew is.
"And leaving me here doesn't seem so out of character for my Dad."
Just as worried as Drew is, Will tries to notice anything out of the ordinary as well:
Notice Check: [roll0]
02-02-2010, 12:05 AM
Dr. Ramirez doesn't seem concerened that your parents aren't at the hospital currently. "Andrew, I assure you that your parents were most concerned during the first few days, and certainly still are, but once it was clear your condition was stable, they had to return to their jobs. They've been back to check on you when they could. They're probably on their way home right now. However, you didn't need surgery, just Sam and Jake. And it seems to have gone as perfectly as anyone could have hoped."
The MRI Room...
The room must have been either created or renovated recently, as it is impecibly clean and generally undisturbed. The actual machine is in the center of the room, a large, pure white, metal tube. Dr. Ramirez goes into a smaller room ajoined by green tinted glass, which holds just a small desk and computer, presumably to run the machine. He presses some buttons on the keyboard, and the MRI whirs to life as the bed slides out. Ramirez's voice comes through the glass walls. "Just lay down there Thomas, stay very still, and we can get started. If anything should happen the red button there will shut the machine down, but we shouldn't need it."
The Front Lobby
The front lobby has a small room labeled "Telephones", which contains a surplus of old fashioned, corded phones. Nurse Byer leads you there relativly quietly, aparently not very concerned about you all calling your parents. After a moment, she brings in a few duffle bags full of all of your normal clothes.
Your keen eyes happen to spot something tucked into the waistband of one of the doctors in the lobby. The momentary flash of metal looks like... a handgun, maybe? But, in a hospital? Just as soon as it appeared, it is gone.
You notice nothing out of the ordinary.
Apparently the sugeons that repaired your head did an extremely good job, as you can't feel any stitches, nor a scar, though your hair might be obstructing your feeling.
02-02-2010, 06:20 AM
Will gets changed into the clothes as fast as possible to conserve his modesty and then rushes to a phone.
He dials home, knowing his father probably wouldn't be there.
"Abi, you there? It's Will!"
02-02-2010, 10:19 AM
Thomas hops on to the bed and lays down without complaint. He looks up into the tube and notes the location of the emergency stop button, just in case. Though truly the MRI is a completely safe procedure and he should have nothing to worry about.
"I am ready Doctor. Please continue."
02-02-2010, 01:25 PM
The hairs on the back of Drew's neck stand on end as they proceed to the phones. He thinks something is definitely wrong here, but knows that it's probably best to keep quiet about it.
Before using one of the hospital's phones, Drew searches the duffel bag with his clothes to make sure everything is there. Once he finds his wallet, he moves to the phone and dials home; he knows his mom at least should be there in her studio.
02-02-2010, 02:17 PM
Sam changes quickly into her of jeans and a t-shirt and moves over to a phone, dialing her mom's cell.
if she answers-
Hey mom. It's Sam, I woke up in a hospital, they're saying I was in some kind of accident.
if she doesn't answer-
Sam will leave a message on her voicemail and try to call her sister's cell phone, saying the same thing she said to her mom (replacing "Hey mom" with "Hey Rachel").
If Rachel doesn't answer either then she'll try her home number.
02-02-2010, 03:43 PM
The MRI drums above you faster as it begins to do its job, capturing images of your brain. You start to feel... excited. Unable to hold still, despite the doctor's warning. Everything seems to slow down signifigantly, and the only noise is blood rushing in your ears. The wires behind the camera above you seem to bend towards you, as if trying to touch you. There's a flash of blinding light, and you feel yourself pulled violently. When your sight returns, you're laying on the floor in the same room as the doctor, though he appears unconcious. You're unsure of how you got there, but you are sure that you've changed. For one, you can't see any part of your body: the sparks of electricity are too bright to look at directly. However, you can feel the difference mostly in your legs, your knees having bent the opposite direction, like a bipedal beast. You feel streatched, too, as if you had grown a lot in a short amount of time. Judging from the height of the ceiling as you stand, about six inches.
The room around you is mostly empty. On the computer, the MRI's program is still running, though now it appears to be scanning nothing. Other then the doctor, the only other object is a manilla folder filled with a few official-looking papers, currently opened to a page containing your picture and a brief medical history.
OOC: You guys take all the fun out of it...:smalltongue:
At this point you can either test out your new powers, (keep in mind they are still extremely uncontrolled) or try and supress them (requiring a power level check).
The phone barely rings once, before your mom's voice comes over the other end, slightly eccentric, "Hello? Oh, Sam, thank God! The doctors said you would be up in no time, but when the feds got involved- are you ok? Never mind, I'm coming over right now. "
You here the phone ring once, twice, and finally a thrid time. With dismay, you hear your own pre-recorded voice, telling you to leave a message.
The phone barely gets through one ring, before you can hear you mom's voice, slightly eccentric, over the phone. "Hello?"
02-02-2010, 03:56 PM
Putting the phone down with dismay and a light *clink* Will turns with a worn look to Drew.
"I'm going to go check on the others and get my MRI test done, if you notice anything off come get me."
He says the last part with the same false comedy, getting more worried and paranoid as the situation progresses.
Will turns to a nurse "Show me the way and get this test done as fast as possible, my sis isn't picking up..."
02-02-2010, 04:05 PM
Glorious. An endless cascade of sensation, the twittering call of binary, the long slow ocean noise of the radio waves overhead, the interplay of his sparks shifting through the color spectrum wildly in response to his whirling mind. His new forms both excited and terrified him. His limbs surge with such power that he has never felt before. Thomas felt every synapse of his brain firing with such speed and power that he was sure his head must explode from the pressures. Designs, schematics, commands, and code. They all flashed across his vision. So many things to create, to build, to envision. But first
Doctor are you injured? I seem to be experiencing something very... odd." His voice buzzed and crackled, like a guitar amp with far too much distortion or the sounds a modem makes on an old dial up internet connection. He reaches down to shake the doctor but stops short as he realizes that touching him may be unwise in his current state. He frantically begins trying to stop enjoying himself so much and focus on not being... whatever he is.
02-02-2010, 04:07 PM
Jake picks up one of the phones and dials his home number. While waiting for his parents to pick up, he glances around for a clock - depending on the time of day, they might well both be out.
02-02-2010, 09:50 PM
The feds!? Mom, slow down. Why are the feds looking into a car accident? Are Rachel and Spencer with you? If you're gonna rush out the door immediately can you at least put one of them on so I can find out what's going on?
02-02-2010, 10:06 PM
The front lobby has a small room labeled "Telephones", which contains a surplus of old fashioned, corded phones. Nurse Byer leads you there relativly quietly, aparently not very concerned about you all calling your parents. After a moment, she brings in a few duffle bags full of all of your normal clothes.
Patrick does just that. Quickly picking up the phone and dialing home. He didn't expect any warm "Hello" or for his Dad to say "I love you" after finding out he was fine. It just wasn't there way. His Father was a big man, and stoic as all hell. He remembered being in disbelief when his Dad told him some random day that he wept twice on the day he had been born.
Once when he found out Mom had died, and later when he found out his boy would be fine.
He accepted that though, and made due with it. He hardly ever said it, but he knew his Dad loved him.
Dialing the number he waited for his Dad to respond. Upon doing so he tells his Dad what's going on. "Hey Pa? Heh, yeah Pa it's me. I woke up in the hospital today, and they wanna run me through an MRI. Scan my brain, make sure every things okay. Thought I'd give you a call and tell you what's up."
He could picture what his Dad was doing right now. Nodding his head, reaching into his picket to see if his keys were there (They always were) and then telling him "I'll be right, boy. Try not to give the doctors too much hassle, but don't let them be pokin you with anything funny."
And then he'd tell his good 'ol predictable Pa "Alright, bye Pa."
To which he would hear only the beeping of the phone. He never said bye himself, only waited for him to say it before hanging up.
02-03-2010, 07:27 PM
The MRI room
The doctor doesn't wake, but you can see his chest rising and falling slowly, so he's atleast just unconcious. The sparks around you continue jumping wildly out of control, scurrying up the walls and floor a distance before dissapating. After a moment, you see Will enter from the MRI room's main doorway.
Power level check is just d20+power level (In this case 3). It's normally used to oppose another power level check. The check just represents being able to reign in your newfound powers.
The Front Lobby
"OK, I'll put Rachel on the phone. I'll be right over." The voice quiets for a moment, then Rachel's speaking. He seems much more composed as he says, "Hey sis, you're finally up. Don't let Mum get you worked up about this. Everyone's pretty much starting to move along. The only reason the government's got their nose in this is 'cause it was on of their supply trucks that got hit. US...CE or something like that. "
The clock in the main lobby read 4:13, and the phone goes to voicemail. Presumably their both out.
Nurse Byer nods at you curtly. Though she doesn't leave herself, she tells another hospital attendant to lead you to the MRI room. The attendant does so, and punches a quick combination into the door's lock. "Dr. Ramirez should be right inside, Andrew. please don't try and disturb the test in progress, though." Once he sees that you are indeed going into the MRI room, he turns around and heads back to the hallway he came from.
Inside the MRI room:
Inside, the giant MRI machine stands, slowly scanning, though the bed appears to be empty. There's a smaller room, set off by green tinted glass, that draws your attention immediatly. Inside the room is what can only be described as living electricity. Large bluish-yellow sparks constantly fly off and around a vaugly humanoid shaped creature, nearly seven feet tall. It is looking over an unconcious, white coated figure lying on the ground.

[roll0] To Suppress
Thomas looks up as Will enters then down at the unconscious Doctor then back up at Will. "This is not what it looks like."
02-03-2010, 07:40 PM
After a moment and with a bit of difficult concentration, Thomas is able to supress the lightening, only occasionally throwing out a random spark here or there. Underneath the electric form is normal Thomas, though his hospital gown is burned away in a few places. However, holding the electricity down is like trying to keep a bouyant object underwater: it threatens to surface quickly, if left unattended.
02-03-2010, 07:51 PM
Will looks for a moment at the talking energy; instead of fainting he realises his acceptance of the situation must be stemming from going into shock as he is awe struck with the creature's impossible existence.
He whisper's a thought out loud "no... just highly improbable..."
Will rushes over to the doctor's body, knowing he's risking his life to help a total strager; pressing repeatedly on his chest trying to resusitate him as the energy being crackles over his now kneeling form "If you're real back off Sparkplug! Or get some help Your choice!"
Hero Point with beginner's luck and Jack of all trades to up Medicine to 5 to use on the doctor [roll0]
Unless Will's power work in which case I use them.
His strong tone and desperate wish to resusictate the unconsious man hides his terror at the electric storm looming over him.
02-03-2010, 07:56 PM
Yeah...the accident. I don't actually remember anything about it. I saw something in the paper about it being pretty big though. Any chance you could fill me in on what the outside world thinks is happening? I'd like to at least have a story to placate mom with when she gets here, I can only imagine what me being unconscious for a couple days after a car accident's done to her.
She's never going to let me get into a car again. I don't see this boding well for gigs in the near future. Oh!
Have you talked to Dana or the guys at all? We were supposed to have practice last night.
02-03-2010, 08:15 PM
With his lightning suppressed for the moment Thomas starts to calm down. "Ok... Ok, I think I've got it under control. Just gotta stay calm." While Will looks after the doctor Thomas keeps his mind off exploding by examining the manilla folder's contents. "Anyway the good Doctor is probably fine. I'm the one who defenestrated by a super magnet anyway."
Do I need to keep rolling to keep myself not all Lightning-y?
02-04-2010, 02:56 AM
Jake sighs a bit with frustration, but leaves a voicemail. "Hi, this is Jake... I just woke up, everything seems to be alright. Call me on my cellphone when you get home, ok?" After hanging up, he turns towards a nurse. "Can I get that MRI when those two are done?"
02-06-2010, 12:39 AM
The MRI room:
The moment your hands touch the Doctor, an overwhelming sensation floods your mind: it's like you can see inside him, feel the organs push and pull. For a long moment you're mesmerized by just the beat of his heart, lub-dub... lub-dub... irregular though it may be. You can feel your brain comparing his biorhythems to yours, and going into a strenuous overdrive as it as it resets his body, matching it to yours. Then his body resumes control, his mind pushing you out like a toxin being purged. As you return to your own body and draw your hands back, you draw with you what looks like dozens of tiny spiderwebs that grew from your fingertips into his skin. You wince slightly as they break, but as the Doctor starts to stir, you know whatever happened might well have saved his life.
The folder is not like anything you expected to find, and it seems only your personal pages have to do with medical information. The front of the folder is stamped with a crest that you've never seen before, but contains the words: "United States Division of Experimental Physics", and over that, the typed words: Project Biejerinck. Finally, at the bottom is written:"Eyes Only. The information contained herein is property of NATO."
The first page inside reads the following: "On November 11th, 2010, a USCP supply truck transporting primerily project Biejerinck test fluid 1409, along with the complete list of chemicals found in form 2c, was hit, contaminating the seven known survivors of the crash. These minors, (attendants of Fallon High School) are hospitalized until the present. Although their contact with the fluid was limited, the victims (subject 342-8) should be tested for radiation poisoning, as well as an MRI to search for cancerous tumors. It should be noted, however, that the subjects of previous tests became inviable for unknown causes. Subjects 342-8 should be monitored at all times, to test for any behavorial changes." The paper is typed and signed in an official looking manner, though, the signature doesn't ring a bell: a Mr. Theodore Gereth. The other six pages include coppies of your medical forms, though you notice the seventh person's form is missing.
No need to keep rolling, but it requires concentration. IE, as soon as you do a strenuous action, such as one in combat, it will require one.
You can imagine Rachel shrugging on the other end of the phone: "As far as everone knows, some supply truck lost control and hit the intersection. Kinda weird that it wasn't all over the news, but I guess they just don't want to draw more attention then they have to you guys. Don't worry about the band Sam. The guys are holding off practice till you get back on your feet."
The nurse nods at you. "Sure. We'll go up once everyone's done here."
Your father picks up after a moment. "Hello?"
02-06-2010, 12:52 AM
The hell they are! Sam says emphatically and not without mischief. Nathan will just drink himself stupid and Daniel needs all the practice he can get anyway.
Sam hears Jake talking to the nurse outside the phone room.
Hey sis, I gotta go. The labcoats wanna run an MRI on me. Tell Spence if he touches my stuff I'm gonna kick his ass okay?
After she finishes the conversation with her sister Sam hangs up the phone and heads over to where Jake and the nurse are waiting.
I'm ready whenever.
She says, leaning against the nearest wall.
02-06-2010, 02:00 AM
Thomas can barely believe what he is reading. Cancerous tumors, radiation poisoning, experimental physics... He does not think he wants to be part of this any longer. He especially does not appreciate being a Number. It was all so impersonal, so clinical. Like he was just a lab rat that they were waiting for results on.
"Will." He says, holding out the manila folder. "I believe you will want to read this. It is... enlightening."
02-06-2010, 02:10 AM
Your father picks up after a moment. "Hello?"
Like clockwork, Patrick tells his Dad exactly what he was just thinking about saying.
"Hey Pa? Heh, yeah Pa it's me. I woke up in the hospital today, and they wanna run me through an MRI. Scan my brain, make sure every things okay. Thought I'd give you a call and tell you what's up."
02-06-2010, 05:39 AM
Jake nods and picks up his duffel bag, making sure everything's there. Upon hearing Sam's voice, he glances towards her, an image flashing in his mind. "Hey, I think I saw you during the crash... you were lying in the truck, with broken glass all around you. You were in pretty rough shape there."
02-06-2010, 05:53 AM
Will takes the form, reading it quickly, almost in shock. He pauses for a moment and looks over Thomas to make sure he's okay.
"I feel like I'm a Michael Bay Mov..."
His own train of though cuts him off.
"The seventh person... Abi! We have to get out of here now! You got a plan for that yet?"
02-06-2010, 12:09 PM
"I am still unsure what I can do... but I know I can be very visible." Thomas stops suppressing his Lightning form and lets the sparks cover his body again. "If you wish I will distract the staff while you locate this Abi. Perhaps you should gather the others and show them the file as well?"
02-06-2010, 12:51 PM
"I'm not leaving you behind! The others might have been affected too so here's the plan, you turn off the glow stick effect as much as possible, I get to the others and we ALL go for the exit while you go disco ball to scare anyone who might try and stop us off. I healed that guy so if you get hit call on me and I'll help you out, who knows maybe the others can help too."
Will rushes to the door with the file and checks that the coast is clear.
"No man left behind."
If the coast is clear he races away to the others and beckons for Thomas to follow.
02-06-2010, 01:19 PM
"Very well. I will refrain from going... Disco Ball... for the time being." Thomas dismisses his sparks and quickly changes into his normal clothing before following after Will. He dashes after him to catch up, still thinking about his newfound power and it's applications. Judging by his effect on the hospital gown he can presume that he could injure others through direct physical contact, and judging by the sensations when he first transformed there is clearly some rapport between him and the electronics in the building.
02-06-2010, 02:51 PM
In the hallway:
As Will is leading, he can see that the hallway leading from the MRI room is clear. About 30 feet to the left (it branches in both directions) it rejoins with the main hallway, which is considerably wider, and filled with a few people going back and forth. If your memory serves, the main lobby is at the end of the main hallway, about fifty feet to the right. On the opposing side of the main hallway, parallel with your hall, are three braching off. Both Will and Thomas remember their rooms being on either the first or second hallways, but they look very similar, and it's hard to say for sure. The main hallway, athough not very crowded, is too well lit and open to go down without being seen. Perhaps by timing it right, one could cross discretely.
Your dad responds similar to what you imagined. "Alright Patrick. Don't worry about it; I know some of the people at the hospital, you'll be fine. I'll see you at dinner time." There's a short pause, before he hangs up.
The nurse gives you the same response as she does Jake: once the others are done, you'll all leave.
02-06-2010, 03:05 PM
Sam nods to the nurse before what Jake says seeps into her consciousness.
In the truck? I was driving a Carola. You sure you weren't seeing things? I guess I could've gotten thrown or something, but landing inside a truck seems pretty far fetched to me. Plus I always wear my seatbelt.
02-06-2010, 04:30 PM
Jake nods slightly. "Pretty sure, yeah... I got out of my car, into the truck to escape the fire, and there you were. Can't remember anything after that, though... maybe the crash did mess up my memory." He scratches the back of his head, where supposedly he was operated on, but doesn't feel any scar or even stitches.
02-06-2010, 04:33 PM
"The others are probably still in the telephone room, we just strole in, show them the file pretend everything's fine and only once we make our shot for the door do you go 4th of July!
Will begins to go towards the telephone room, trying to act normal.
02-06-2010, 05:18 PM
Heh. Like clockwork.
"Alright, bye Pa." His farewell was followed with, as always, the beeping of a phone. Hanging up the phone and turning around Patrick addresses the doctor.
"Alright man, I'm ready whenever."
02-07-2010, 12:23 AM
Dr. Byer brings the rest of the four from the phone room out to the hallway, in time to see Will exiting the hallway, with Thomas behind. "What are you two doing out here? Shouldn't you be in the MRI room? And what's that in your had... Will? Is that a medical file?"
02-07-2010, 07:48 AM
Will tries to think on his feet.
"It's a contact sheet, I couldn't remember my father's or my sister's cell phone numbers so one of the nurses got this for me. I came down to make the call as soon as I got it."
Bluff check: [roll0]
If the Doctor doesn't fall for it, Will turns back to Thomas and shouts [COLOR="Red"]"NOW!"[/COLOR and tries to push everyone towards the door.
02-09-2010, 06:15 PM
The nurse looks at Will strangely, clearly not buying it. "You called your parents. Now give me that and get back--" Will's cry is heard throughout the corridor. Several heads turn towards your group as he shouts.
Intiative time everyone!
Not necessarily that there's going to be a fight, but lots of things are going to start happening at once, so... yeah. Will and Thomas have a surprise round.
A note on intiatives very quickly: they are interchangable among party members, so long as everyone is on the same side, and so long as two people's truns aren't interrupted by an enemy. For instance, if Player A got a 15, Player B got a 13, and the Enemy got a 12, B could go before A, just for the sake of speeding up the posting during combat. However, if the Enemy instead got a 14, B couldn't go before A, because it would put the enemy at a loss.
Also, as I don't have a map up yet, (I'm taking suggestions on how to put one up) just ask where things are. I'll work on getting one put up.
02-09-2010, 06:54 PM
would I be correct in assuming that no one except Will and Thomas have powers yet?
02-09-2010, 07:40 PM
"Excuse me nurse but the sheet is for me. I have just finished with my MRI and I need to use the phones now." Thomas gives a half-hearted attempt to talk his way out of the confrontation, well aware he is unsuited to the task.
02-10-2010, 04:24 AM
Unsure as to what exactly is going on, Patrick tries to get this whole over with as soon as possible.
"Listen, uh. I'd like to get this over with. If there is some emergency or something though, I can back tomorrow or something. I'm wasting my day away here."
A familiar tightness begins to make his body ache. An inexplicable urge. he has trouble keeping his mind off of it. The orange/red glow, the warmth, the wonderful dance-like flickers... It wasn't strong, not yet. Like a whisper on the edge of his mind, a figure hiding in shadows.
God damn it, he needed to get out of here.
02-10-2010, 05:16 AM
As Jake sees Will and Thomas returning from the MRI room, he glances towards the nurse, thinking that it's probably his turn next. As Will shouts, however, he turns his head towards him, unsure what's going on. "Now? What now?"
02-10-2010, 03:20 PM
Will inches closer to the exit but waits until he knows whether Thomas's ruse failed or not to try and grab the others and pull them towards the exit.
02-10-2010, 09:21 PM
The nurse looks sternly at Thomas and Will. "If Dr. Ramirez was bringing the results down already, he would have done it himself. Where is he?" She starts towards Will, trying to take the folder.
The nurse acts on an initiative of 15, so those with a higher one can go first. She's provoking an attack of oppertunity by trying to "disarm" Will.
Yes, only Will and Thomas have powers now, but don't worry, others will get their's soon.
02-10-2010, 10:54 PM
Going to go ahead and make use of my surprise round then
"I'm afraid Dr. Ramirez is unavailable. We are leaving now. I am sorry if this hurts you." With that Thomas releases his sparks, once more assuming full electrical form. With just as little ceremony he raises one of his flashing limbs and fires a burst of crippling energy at the troublesome nurse hoping to render her unconscious. Instead he produces an ineffectual sputter of dying sparks.
"Oh bother. That is not what I was hoping for."
02-11-2010, 12:15 AM
What the ****!?
Watching Thomas burst into a cascade of sparks and launch what appears to be a lightning bolt from his body (albeit not very effectively) is just a little too much unexpected sensory input for Sam. She starts moving towards the exit.
Making a double move towards the exit. Avoiding any attacks of opportunity if possible.
Although I was actually under the impression that AoO's didn't exist in M&M, so I'm a little confused by the nurse provoking.
02-11-2010, 12:22 AM
"Holy..." Patrick didn't run, not at first at least. His brain was trying (and failing) to take in everything that was happening. The confusion soon after turned to raw fear, and he ran full speed to the nearest exit.
Running to exit as well.
02-11-2010, 04:32 AM
Jake's eyes widen at the sight of sparks flying from Thomas's body and his entire body transforming into... something else. "Whoa! What the hell?" He blinks his eyes a few times, wondering if he's been drugged up and is now hallucinating... Caught up in the general confusion, he goes along with the plan of moving to the exit post haste.
02-11-2010, 11:28 AM
"Everybody who was in the crash, Sparky is on our side! Come with me if you want answers!"
Will moves towards the exit, motioning for the others to follow at the last moment he outstretches his hand to the nurse and sense something.
A faint gold glow dances under his skin and he feels the nurse's life ebb and flow within her... and he he motions to squeeze that life force in his hand.
Life Control: Nausea: [roll0]
02-14-2010, 05:50 PM
The lobby erupts in gasps and screams. Some people flee towards the doors, like Patrick, Drew, Sam and Jake, and others stand there petrified. At Will's attack, though it doesn't seem to harm her, the nurse takes a few steps back, looking confused and disoriented. "Wha... What's going on?!" One of the doctors in the lobby, however, doesn't run or hide, but rather pulls out a pistol from under his labcoat, and aiming it shakily at Tom. "Stop, um, citizen, or I'll be forced to shoot!"
Shadow, I mentioned in the recruiting thread about AoO's, though I'm guessing you didn't catch it. They make melée characters a bit more balanced, and melée attacks worthwhile.
The nurse succeeded her fort save with a 19. The agent that joined the fight this round is at the end of the initiative. So, for simplicity's sake it's the top of a new round, with the agent acting on initiative 1. (yes, the nurse is no longer an enemy... :smalltongue:)
Those that ran to the door are there, though it isn't opened (it took a full round to get there, and opening doors is a move action). The agent is about 30' away from everyone. (a move action.)
02-14-2010, 06:29 PM
Thomas gives the Lightning attack a second try, this time to much greater success. He sends an impressively sized bolt towards the gun toting agent but realizes his powers are too unreliable and he is unsure whether or not he can actually survive bullets. With his new senses Thomas feels the fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling above him and succumbs to the call of the wires.
Instantly he explodes into static and disappears into the electrical grid, blindly searching for a connection outside of the building a street lamp, a wall socket, anything really.
Lightning Blast on the Gun toting agent. Since hospitals are full of electrical wires in the ceilings and walls and floors and everything I am going to use my limited Teleport to move myself 300 feet in the direction of the front of the hospital.
02-14-2010, 08:14 PM
Patrick opens the doors to the Hospital and rushes outside, running full speed to... where ever. Some place comforting, relaxing, and where he can think about what the hell just happened.
He doesn't even notice it himself, but he isn't running home. He's running full speed to the alleyway that he hangs out at.
02-15-2010, 05:50 PM
Will holds the door open, making sure he's the last one to leave waving everyone else out.
He outstretches his hand to the armed man and makes no motion to try and hurt him though the gold light dances under his skin.
"You don't want to do this. . . let these people go, whatever you want them for isn't there fault. . ."
He looks at the armed man, down the barrel of his gun saying with an almost broken tone "I have a sister. . . I never got to say goodbye. . . don't make her have to; don't make these people have to. . ."
Diplomacy check to get the man to lower the gun so Will and the others can leave safely [roll0]
02-16-2010, 03:36 PM
Jake rushes outside along with the others, still in his gown but carrying his duffel bag with him, and waits outside, making sure to stay near Will - he wants to know what this is all about, whether he's dreaming or hallucinating. That one guy just turned into living lightning - that can't be real, can it?
When he notices Patrick running away, he tries to give chase. "Hey, wait up!" he yells after him; after a few meters, though, he realizes that the kid is just too fast for him, even if he dropped the bag with his clothes. What's he thinking running away by himself? But Jake is more worried about himself and his mental state right now - maybe he did crack his head during the accident after all.
02-16-2010, 05:21 PM
Patrick and Thomas:
A few blocks outside the hospital is Patrick's hideout ally. Patrick stops either just to catch his breath or hide here, when, Thomas in his elecrical state is spit violently out of a streetlamp in front of the ally. With incredibly momentum, he flings into the ally and into patrick who, caught unawares, is knocked down, and yells in surprise as the lightening courses through his own body. But there's something else, too. Only Jake can identify that it came from Patrick, but a huge rush of fire fills the small ally wall to wall, and even shoots out into the street a bit, but it quickly dissipates and is gone, though scorches Thomas thoroughly. Luckily, there was no one else in the ally, or nearby in the street.
Patrick has tentative control over his powers now, though keep in mind for Thomas too, that you can only rudimentarily control it. There's still plenty of room for mishaps, especially with uses of the power that demand more control. (IE, just a blast of fire is easier to control then making a ring of it.) Also, Tom and Pat have to make a toughness save against eachother's attacks. Tom from a full strength blast attack from Pat, and Pat from touching Tom.
You two are far enough away that you no longer need to act in initiative, unless you plan on rejoining the fight.
Will, Jake, and Sam:
Tom's stream of lightening hits the man square in the chest, making him stagger back a few steps. as Tom dissapears into the ceiling, he looks around with a mixture of fear and confusion. The rush of the party running out the doors is frightening to his now-slightly-delerious mind, and almost instinctivly he pulls the trigger. The gunshot echos around the room, it's note punctuating the end of Will's plea. It's unclear who the bullet was aimed for, but it looks like the aim was way off. Still, it flies straight towards Sam, yet she feels no inclination of being shot. A sound like a second gunshot goes off, and Andrew, who had been standing directly behind Sam, is knocked off his feet, a red damp spot already spreading just above his chest. The man with the gun looks incredibly shocked, as if he didn't really expect to pull the trigger, still holding the gun loosely in his hand.
Yes, I went out of order turn order, but it was in the interest of opening up another person's powers: Sam, who teleported in place from the bullet, causing it to hit Drew behind her. as usual, Sam's powers are only tentativly controlled, and is fairly hard to do.
Some specifics: The agent failed a defence roll against Tom's lightening with an 11, and failed the lethal toughness save by 2, so he has a bruise and an injury. He suceeded the Diplomacy save by 2 also. Thomas, and Patrick have left the fight, so it's just you all and the agent in initiative now. it's Sam's turn, then the top of the order, where the agent acts last, as it should be, if the fight goes that long.
02-16-2010, 05:54 PM
Jake watches the scene unfold before him in shock. It seems like the bullet simply passes through Sam to hit Andrew instead, who collapses before his eyes. Reacting out of instinct more than anything, he runs towards him to administer whatever first aid he can. "What are you standing around for? Get an EMT!" he yells towards the guard.
02-16-2010, 07:20 PM
"Jake right? You were in the accident? What can you do? Please tell me it's something good because I think the human lightbulb just went AWOL. Cover me!"
Will races over and presses his hands down on Andrew's chest, his hand glowing faintly golden.
[Spoiler] Heal: [roll0] [Spoiler]
02-16-2010, 07:27 PM
Jake fumbles around a bit helplessly, unsure what to do, so he's grateful for any help. "Um, I know my anatomy and I've taken a first aid class, but I've never dealt with a gunshot wound... whoa! What the hell?" He jumps back in surprise as he sees the glow emit from Will's hand.
02-16-2010, 08:56 PM
From the moment Jake's hands touch Drew to help him, he feels a rush of power like a warms spread through him. The sense of power never really stays on one aspect: sometimes it is a mental strength, another moment a physical one, but every time it is eager to express itself outwardly. The cascade of endless possibilities is momentarily overwhelming, until it finally rests on a physical force.
OOC for all:
Aaand everyone has their powers! Jake right now has 3 ranks of protection (in the form of toughened skin, with impervious but limited to physical attacks) and 2 ranks of enchanced ability: strength. I realize that Tom's teleportation doesn't have that trait, but, well, I'm fudging it so I could have everyone's powers emerge. Now that the training wheels are coming off, so to speak, I'm very excited to really start! Just a quick reminder to everyone: there's a reason for everything, it just depends on how much you try to find the answer.
02-16-2010, 08:58 PM
"Are you okay?" Thomas says with genuine concern as he extricates himself from his erstwhile compatriot. Trying not to electrocute him any further. "Really very sorry about this. Still getting the hang of this. You were at the hospital weren't you? I'm feeling rather exposed out here, I'm pretty sure we should get somewhere out of sight as quickly as possible. Oh dear I'm starting to babble, you see when I'm nervous I start to talk far too much and it's difficult to stop."
He takes a deep breath and pushes away his fear for the moment. "Do you know somewhere we can hide from... whoever that is that was running the hospital."
02-17-2010, 04:35 AM
Jake arches his body backwards as he feels the power rush into him, his form becoming fluid for a moment. His body twists and deforms, changing in seemingly random ways, growing fur for a moment, then the next instant having big feathery wings, then an additional pair of arms... these changes shred his hospital gown thoroughly, but before any indecent exposure can occur, an entirely new set of clothes simply forms out of his flesh, adapting to any subsequent change he undergoes.
Finally, he seems to return to his normal shape, only somewhat more muscular than before and covered in tiny scales that are hardly visible unless you look closely; but he feels instinctively that from now on, he can change at will to any of the forms he just went through and much, much more. "Whoa..." is all he can say.
02-17-2010, 07:03 AM
Unlike the... man in front of him, Patrick was freaking out. Whatever was in front of him had just... teleported in front of him and then he... exploded? He saw the flames, felt it's warmth, but it didn't burn.
What the hell. What the hell.
A few seconds passed as Patrick looked at the Thomas, trying to figure out exactly what to do. A long, awkward silence filled the ally after Thomas finished speaking.
Then, it was Patrick's turn.
"Yeah. I... yeah. Just... Just turn normal again. You can do that right? We can... we can head to an ally I know about for awhile. I... I..."
A short pause. "I... How the hell." With wide eyes Patrick began moving his lips. He... wasn't breathing. It wasn't uncomfortable, it was just... shocking. He wasn't breathing, but he could still speak. And...
This was all just too much for him to handle.
02-17-2010, 04:21 PM
Looking at Jake as he changes with an awe struck grin "Okay... you're mister everything! Also my new best friend!"
He makes for the door trying to get anyone still behind to follow "Jake, we need to find the others, if you want answers help me get all the crash victims out of here and together!"
02-18-2010, 09:43 PM
Seemingly comforted by doing what they have been trained to, a group of people in scrubs rush to Drew, nearly knocking over Will in the process. Just before Drew is pushed out of his hands and into those of the nurses, Will can fell Drew's frantic heart rate steady, and the same cobweb like strands as before break off from the contact point between Will and Drew. He seems very dazed, as if the shot had put him into a state of shock.
The man who fired the gun a Drew, seeing that he's being cared to and that Thomas has left rests the gun on one of the counters in the hospital and says shakily, as if reading a speech, "Children, stop! Though you may not realize it, you're in possession of federal resources, and any refusal to comply is seen as an attack againt the United States government. Now please, if you'd just all stop, we can find the other two, and I can explain to you what's going on..."
The street just outside the hospital holds a few cars, the drivers seemingly unaware about the trouble inside the building. Though the hospital takes up a wide girth in the street, as well as the small road that leads to it's back, the opposite street is lined with a few buildings, the middle one being a large office building. To the left a short distance is a four way intersection, and beyond that more local stores (convinience stores, sub shops, and the like), One of the alley's Patrick probably ran off to.
The alley that Thomas and Patrick are in is tight (only about seven feet wide) and is mostly bare, except a pile of wooden pallets and damp cardboard boxes, a few of which are now smoldering slightly.
02-18-2010, 10:42 PM
"Oh yes of course." Thomas concentrates for a moment and once again suppresses his lightning form. He looks down at himself to confirm that he is no longer shiny. "Do you think the others got out of the hospital? Perhaps we should go back for them? Or it might be better if we found somewhere to hide..." He paces uncertainly around the alleyway before looking expectantly at Patrick.
02-19-2010, 03:55 PM
"I haven't agree to whatever you people put in any of us so unless you slipped in a few alterations to my right to property in the constitution than it's not legally your property,"
He turns to the any of the other victims nearby and says with a grin "Find me, find the others, we are not property, we are free men!"
He races out of the hospital towards the alley as fast as he can run, not even bothering to look in the way of traffic just focusing on finding his new friend the living lightbulb.
As Will raced from the hospital he thought I should really ask him about a single nickname.
02-19-2010, 04:16 PM
(ooc: We don't know where exactly Patrick and Tom are, do we? Not yet, at least...)
Jake runs after Will, but has no idea where Patrick ran off to, or the Human Lightning for that matter. Suddenly, just as they turn into an alley, an idea flashes in his mind. "Hold on, let me try something. Here, hold on to this." He gives his duffel bag to Will, then concentrates, attempting to draw out the power he only just realized he had to change into a tracking dog and hopefully pick up Patrick's trail.
Taking 10 on the power check if I can and it will allow Jake to make the change, otherwise: [roll0]
In this form he'll have +2 CON and Super-senses: Ultrahearing, Scent and Tracking.

What's happening here?
Sam thinks as the bullet passes right through where she is and her hands start to exude a blackness that blocks out the light surrounding them.
I really don't want to get shot at again, let's see if I can't make myself do something cool.
She twists her body and begins to move to the door when suddenly she disappears, appearing again at the door, creating a globe of shadows and disappearing again, only to jump back into existence next to dog-Jake.
That's a neat trick you got there, think that'll help find the others?
She asks, resisting the urge to scratch him behind his ears.
Using my turnabout power feat to teleport to the front door, then using darkness control to create a globe of darkness with a 5 ft. radius on the doors before continuing to teleport next to Jake.
02-21-2010, 05:07 AM
Unlike Thomas, Patrick wasn't exactly calm. Whatever was going on made no damn sense. He wasn't breathing, he didn't need to. The flames that covered his skin only warmed him, but didn't burn. These types of things just... didn't happen.
"Well... Um... I... I don't know. We should..." Patrick runs his hand across his pockets and sighs. He hated it when they were empty. When he didn't have some way of relaxing. Letting loose some of that desire. "We... head back, but I need to pick something up first. Just... follow me I guess. We're close to some people I know."
After saying this Patrick begins to head off to the ally-way where the two bums he knew were staying. He constantly looks over his shoulder to make sure that Thomas hasn't gone back into lightning mode or something. Honestly, he didn't trust the guy. He just had no idea what to do.
"Hey." Upon entering the ally where the two bums lived Patrick makes himself known. The ally it self wasn't very wide, perhaps a small car could fit through, but nothing larger. Hardly anyone came this way as well, so the bums had been able to stay here for years without worrying about getting moved. "Mind if I get one of my spare lighters? I lost all mine."
02-21-2010, 05:36 AM
A shudder goes through Jake's body as the change washes over him, and he can't stay on two legs anymore. As he drops down to all fours, fur bursts out of his skin everywhere, his clothes simply melt back into his body, his face pushes out into a snout, and his ears migrate to the top of his head and grow pointed. His hands and feet grow narrow and become paws, and his spine extends into a fluffy tail that swishes about with excitement.
Whoa! This is awesome! Jake feels no pain as he changes; quite the contrary, it feels new and exciting. He inhales deeply, and a myriad of scents that he didn't even know existed flows into his nose, among them one that he can identify quite well as 'hospital smell', the mix of cleaning agents and disinfectants; that must be Patrick's trail. "This way!" he tells his new friends, his voice sounding a bit like a bark, as he hurries to follow the scent trail.
02-21-2010, 05:44 PM
Will simply follows Jake towards the others keeping an eye out for any pursuers other than the other crash victims.
02-22-2010, 11:06 AM
Thomas follows mutely after Patrick, having no other options at this time and no real desire to go anywhere else in particular. He isn't about to go abandoning the only other person like himself that he has managed to keep track of. He does however make a mental note to stop by his workshop as soon as possible to gather supplies. "Do you have what you need? We should really go back for the others soon."
02-25-2010, 09:43 PM
Jake's strange new senses have no trouble picking up Pat's scent, which is shortly joined by that of Tom's. The scent doesn't travel too far, going down a small alleyway, back into the street, then into a different alley where the two stand with two other raggedy looking individuals.
The bums look at Pat a little strangely. "Sure kid... You in a spot a trouble? Looks like you've been runnin'. Who'se this?" One of them says, signaling to Tom as he tosses Pat one of his old lighters.
Your canine senses pick up two things besides the scent of Patrick and Thomas. The first is instantly familiar: the sharp "Woop woop" of police sirens, and they sound like they're drawing closer. The second is totally alien, and seems like it would be inperceptable to normal humans: it's a very tiny scent, yet incredibly euphoric, an indescribable exhilarating rush. It makes you not want to shift out of being a dog, and makes you forget about the rest of the world.
Mechanics: 2 will saves, unfortunatly: The first (DC 18) to be able to shift out of a form that has scent.
The second (DC 15) to not get 'lost' in the scent, so to speak, and to be able to concentrate on other things.
02-25-2010, 10:03 PM
Jake's tail wags wildly, and he inhales deeply through his nose, taking in the scents of Patrick and Thomas as he leads the rest of the group to them, as well as that tiny one that somehow sends a rush of excitement through his body... it almost makes him want to turn and chase after it to see what it is, but he is able to restrain himself and continues tracking the other two would-be superheroes.
Suddenly, his ears swivel around as he notices a familiar sound far away, but rapidly coming closer. "The cops are coming! We gotta hurry," he alerts his friends and picks up the pace, going as fast as he can without losing the scent trail until he reaches the alley where he is witness to an interesting scene. Not wanting to reveal his nature to the pair of strangers, however, he simply barks loudly to get Patrick's and Thomas's attention.
02-25-2010, 10:54 PM
Thomas raises one eyebrow at the strange barking dog before turning to Patrick and the Bums. "I am just a friend and I really believe we should be going. Are you coming Patrick?" Thomas tries to impart a sense of urgency. While Patrick deals with the bums Thomas then turns to the strange dog that is barking at him. "This may seem like an odd question... are you trying to tell me something boy? Is Timmy stuck in a well?"
02-26-2010, 08:46 AM
"Trouble? Man, I don't even know. Patrick leans against a nearby wall, rolling the lighter around in his hands. "And this is, uh... a person. Yeah." Patrick shakes his head, not really knowing what to say.
He continues on, talking to both Thomas and the bums at the same time.
"And, like. I don't think we should go back. This **** is just way too weird to risk going back." With a sigh Patrick rubs the bridge of his nose. "I guess you guys want to know what I'm talking about? Well, uh. Don't freak out too much. I'm doing enough for all of us."
Holding the lighter out in front of him Patrick flicks his thumb over the flint-wheel of the lighter and holds down the release value. However, instead of a small and steady fire a large stream of flames erupt from it, wildly twisting around itself in an impossible way before finding itself into the nearby barrel.
Letting out a shaky breath, Patrick slides down the wall into a sitting position. He had no idea how he knew how to do that... he just did. And it felt good. Like all the worry and tightness in his body was just being burned away.
"S-see man? I-I don't even know what the hell is going on."
02-26-2010, 01:45 PM
Sam follows Dog-Jake into the alley. Seeing Thomas, Patrick and the bums she figures that while it might not be the best hiding place ever at least it's out of sight of the hospital.
Oh ****, my mom's on her way down here! This could end up being really bad.
Uhh, guys? I know we should probably not stick around the orderlies with guns and all, but my mom is on her way down here and my sister has her cell phone. I understand if you wanna just take off, but there's no way I'm going to let her just walk into that craziness.
02-26-2010, 06:23 PM
The barrel burns easily sending up a column of smoke as it does so. The two bums jump back, terror clear on their face. "What the hell!!" One of them exclaims. The telltale "Woo"ing of police sirens becomes audible now, and grows louder as the cars draw nearer from somewhere. The sound seems to snap the bums out of their incredulous state as the other says, "For Christ's Sake! You didn't say you were in trouble with the cops!" The two start to move, making it clear they're getting out of here before the police arrive, which could be any minute.
02-26-2010, 06:32 PM
Jake rolls his eyes, and whispers to Thomas when he comes close. "Couldn't think of anything more cliché, could you? I'm Jake, the good-looking japanese guy from the hospital. Listen, we gotta bail before -" He gets rudely interrupted by the approaching wail of sirens, and barks once more at Patrick to draw his attention.
02-27-2010, 12:39 AM
Thomas stares at the dog blankly for a moment and considers how unbelievably bizarre his world has become. "Did you really just refer to yourself as good looking? In any case, what happened to the others? Did they all make it out of the hospital okay? Where can we even go?" Thomas feels himself beginning to babble as dozens of questions spring to mind. He pushes most of them away. "Why are you a dog?"
02-28-2010, 10:46 AM
"For Christ's Sake! You didn't say you were in trouble with the cops!" The two start to move, making it clear they're getting out of here before the police arrive, which could be any minute.
"****. ****! I didn't know!"
Patrick gets on his feet, and leans against the nearby wall a moment to regain his balance.
"Look, guys. I have no idea what's going on here. With the... talking dog, and electric people. But, um. The girl's right. I'm sure the cops know where we live, and we have no idea what's going on. We should... uh. We should head back, and figure out what the hell is going on."
02-28-2010, 04:50 PM
Will reaches the alley as the bums start to flee but over hearing the exchange.
Seeing the group he speaks loud enough to get their attention and holds up the file.
"Project Biejerinck, remember that name because it's what brought us here, to this moment."
Will pauses to make sure he has everyone's attention, he likes to play to his crowd.
"Another name you should remember, United States Division of Experimental Physics; because what ever formula they were transporting did this to us. Now if any of you think turning yourselves in is a smart move think again because when they did this intentionally the subjects were deemed inviable. . . We were accidents by default we won't be that lucky.
He looks at each of the others coldly, trying to convey the danger with a look.
"If we don't want to disappear than there is something we need to realise. They don't want to contain us, they want to cover us up. That is the difference that will keep us alive. If we stay in public places, malls, schools, etc. Pretend we're normal they won't risk the investigation that will come with grabbing us in broad daylight."
He looks to each of them again this time fearful.
"I can't tell any of you what to do. . . all off this is just a suggestion, but I can heal you, ease your pain. I need all of you and maybe some of you might just need a bullet wound healed in the near future."
He looks down at the ground almost as if trying to hide his face incase tears fall
"But I don't care. . . about any of this. . . that's not why I want your help. There was a seventh person. . . changed. My sister was with me when the accident happened. She wasn't with us. . . I love her. . . "
He outstretches his hand with the file to anyone who hasn't read it and begs
"Please help me. . .
02-28-2010, 06:48 PM
Jake glances up at Will and listens to his little speech curiously. What he's saying does seem to make a lot of sense, but without hands he can't look at the file, and he doesn't want to change shape in front of the bums or anyone outside the little group. When Will mentions his sister, however, the dog makes a rather human gesture and nods gently. "I'm with you." The decision comes quickly, without needing to think about it much.
02-28-2010, 08:03 PM
Thomas stops to consider the matter, remembering what he had seen in passing from reading the file. He also ponders on the matter of the guards and defenses he had seen in the hospital. In all he finds their own powers to be more than the defenses seen so far. It seems likely their group will be able to overcome them, and it is safer to remain in contact with the others rather than separate and leave himself vulnerable to recapture. "I will assist you. How long do we have to prepare?"
02-28-2010, 11:04 PM
Jake then turned his attention to Sam; what she had said hadn't escaped his attention even among all the chaos. "Do you think we can intercept your mom before she arrives at the hospital? I don't think going back there right now would be a great idea..."
03-01-2010, 03:06 PM
I hope so. I mean, I intend to try. Like I said, my sister has her cell phone though. God, why do I always demand answers immediately?
She wonders aloud.
Even if we can't I need to find her though. I understand if you don't wanna head back into the hospital, I'm not leaving her in that mess though.
If something happens to my mom then I'm going to kill every single one of these mother****ers. She might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but she's my pain in the ass, and I'm not letting anyone take that from me.
03-02-2010, 03:36 PM
"If your mom or anyone else is in there I'll help you go get her no matter what, I'll heal her if she's hurt and if I can I'll bring her back if needs be!" Will places a hand on Sam's shoulder as he drops the douffel bag he was still holding.
"Whatever they're after us for changed us, so in a way it's in out veins, all of our veins. We're a team, I don't know about the other's but until your family's safe I won't rest," Will grinned for a moment "And if I get tired Thomas can perk me up."
Will turns to Thomas "In the long term if there is one I can use my healing ability to get us the cash we need but right now all we need is a get away vehicle. You think you can hotwire a car mon ami?"
03-02-2010, 03:43 PM
When Will touches Sam she instinctively flinches away, accidentally triggering her teleport power and ending up about 10 feet away.
Whoa, sorry. Thanks for the help I guess.
She says, shaking her head to try and clear it.
Man, that's gonna take some getting used to. Anyway, my mom's got a minivan, once we get her we'll have a car.
03-02-2010, 03:47 PM
Jake tilts his head and grins (which looks a bit scary as it exposes his carnivore teeth). "Our very own mystery machine? Sounds cool."
03-02-2010, 03:56 PM
Sam grins back at Jake.
You do realize that makes you Scooby Doo right?
03-02-2010, 04:23 PM
Jake laughs and stands up on his hindpaws, letting his tongue hang out of the side of his mouth for a moment. "Hey, can you tell me your mom's license number? I'm gonna try and look for her quickly..."
03-02-2010, 04:34 PM
"We're sending a dog to look for a minivan in live traffic, nothing could go wrong!" Will said with a laugh.
"And if we're going to have a mystery machine than are we the scooby gang? Because as cool group names go I'd prefer some other suggestions?"
03-02-2010, 05:03 PM
"Now when did I say I was going to search by foot?" Jake says with a wink. "Or by paw, for that matter."
03-02-2010, 06:02 PM
Thomas assumes his lightning shape and moves over to one of the larger cars parked in the street. He touches one hand to the surfaces and a pulse of green electricity ripples across the vehicle causing the lights to strobe green several times before settling down.
"Yes. I believe I can help you with that."
The doors all pop open at the same time as the engine starts, seemingly of it's own accord.
If this is a modern car that has most of it's engine and security functions run by a computer then I use Datalink with Machine Control feat to take command of it. If it isn't then I use my Animate Objects ability to simply make a living car.
03-02-2010, 06:49 PM
Will quickly races around to the front passenger's seat shouting "Shotgun!"
He speaks to the others leaning out the window "Thomas can bring all of us near to the hospital to get your mom, I'll hang back and move in when you head some first aid or back up. We need to get in and get out as fast as possible."
He then turns to Thomas with a raised eyebrow "You can drive this thing right?"
03-02-2010, 07:57 PM
"Not that it matters but yes. This thing could drive itself at this point. I don't think it's actually a car any more." Thomas drop shis electricity and slides into the Driver's seat. He buckles up for safety and checks all his mirrors. You can't be too careful, I mean he was just in a car accident after all. "Just so you know. I don't think what I did here is going to keep working if I leave. So if I go in with the others you won't be able to start the car."
03-02-2010, 11:35 PM
As Thomas and Will get into the nearby minivan, the police cars that could be heard before finally roll into view, down the intersection separating the group and the hospital. Two of the police cars veer left towards the hospital, while the last two turn right and speed up to the alley. One of the cars pulls up to the mouth of the alley, obstructing movement through it, while the other car parks in front of the minivan, stopping it from moving foreward. The doors of the cars fly open and two officers step out of each car. Although they don't look immediatly hostle, they carry in addition to a normal handgun a strange, grey and silver one holstered next to it.
03-03-2010, 12:01 AM
Sorry for not posting, I've been rather forgetful as of late.
Patrick has been mostly silent during all of this. The thought of stealing a van didn't exactly strike his fancy, and being stuck in giant metal box for any period of time freaked him out. But what else was there to do? So he just silently agreed to it, while constantly flicking his thumb against the flint-wheel of his lighter.
He also had no idea what to do when the cops blocked the ally. A familiar tightness gripped his body. An overwhelming, illogical fear. This place, the ally, was growing smaller and smaller. The walls felt like the were closing in on him, the cars felt far closer then they were. His only relief was the small, insignificant flame that came to life with every flick of his thumb, only to die a moment after.
He doesn't doesn't make any obvious hostile movements. Although it would be so very easy to fill the entire ally with flames. So... very... easy.
Patrick dry swallowed, trying to hold onto what was left of his self control.
03-03-2010, 11:19 AM
Jake wastes no time following everyone else into the car. Like a good doggy, he stayed off the cushions and simply found a spot on the floor in front of the back seats. Maybe he can fool the cops into thinking he's just a regular dog...
03-03-2010, 11:44 AM
Sam starts to move towards the minivan right as the cops show up.
****, the one riding shotgun looks like the ******* that caught me and Nathan toking up behind the laundromat. What was his name? Officer... Daniels, yeah that was it. I really hope this isn't the same guy.
Doing her best to look like a scared, innocent girl while still showing her natural disdain for the law enforcement officials (not an easy task, but she's had her fair share of practice) Sam stands her ground, but is ready to bolt if trouble breaks out.
Readying an action to get the **** out of the line of fire, most likely through teleportation since the alley is only like 7 ft. wide.
How far can I teleport? I doubt I could carry any of the others with me anyway, but it might be worth a shot. If I could get close then that globe of darkness I can make might distract them long enough for us to run.
Whoa, whoa, what's the deal? There seems to be an awful lot of commotion going on, is a big drug bust going down or something?
She asks the two officers getting out of the police car in front of the alley.
03-03-2010, 03:34 PM
He leans side ways to Thomas "If this goes south try and make them put you in their backseat and take over their car from there. . ."
Will steps out of the car leaning on the door. "What seems to be the trouble officer? I'm happy to help with anything you need but my friends and I need to go pick up my sister so if this could be quick? We'll do anything we can to help but I don't like leaving her by herself, I'm sure you understand," Will finished with a smile to the officers, courteous and respectful at all times.
Diplomacy check: [roll0]
Will pretends to notice something in the backseat and pretends to grab Jake's Scooby Jake tag, he shouts loud enough for the cops to hear as he leans in towards Jake "Scooby's pulling at the seats again, let him out your side," motioning to Sam making sure not to use names.
He whispers in Jake's ear "scout the hospital if possible, other wise stay safe and run if I get arrested, I'll buy you guys time if I have too. . ."
Bluff check if necessary [roll1]
He turns back to the police with another honest looking smile "So is it okay if we go?"
03-07-2010, 11:03 PM
One of the officers, presumably a more veteran one, walks up to Will. "'Fraid not son. See, we got a call sayin' there was trouble at the hospital, bad trouble, but they wouldn't tell us what. An' we find smoke just a couple a' blocks away. You kids know anything 'bout that?" Everyone recognizes this man as officer Stephenson, and you're not surprised he's skeptic of you all: his reputation of being tough on teenagers certainly precedes him.
03-08-2010, 03:01 AM
Patrick decides to speak up. He's not exactly unknown to the police, having been caught making pyres like this before. He's also been whooped once or twice for making one just a little too big.
"That." Patrick gives a small sigh and steps forward. "Would be 'cause of me, sir. Y'know, I was just showing off to my friends here by lighting a little pyre. Didn't mean no harm by it, sir. Never do, you know that."
03-08-2010, 10:29 AM
Jake has never had an unfriendly encounter with the police before, but he recognizes the officer's voice from several local news reports, and his reputation isn't unknown to him either. At least it seems like the police aren't in on what's really been happening at the hospital, or the bizarre powers the kids have. It makes it a bit easier for him to keep up his masquerade, since the officer won't suspect anything as long as he doesn't do anything blatantly undoglike. However, he doesn't want to get the cops' attention either, so he stays quiet for now, only turning around and poking his head out of the van to see what's going on.
03-08-2010, 01:50 PM
"As we've said we don't lnow anything about that but as I said my sister is waiting so if you could maybe ask us all your questions in go or we can come by the station later but I really need to go."
03-08-2010, 04:28 PM
****, Stephenson. At least I'll pass a sobriety test this time.
Sam just waits to see what's going to happen, doing her best to not draw attention to herself.
03-11-2010, 11:12 PM
"Jesus Christ, again Patrick? You're gonna burn a whole building down one day! C'mon. I think you need to spend a little time in the hoosegow to get a taste of what the real cost of these crimes are. I have no idea why all the other officers are so keen on being so lax. And you," Stephenson says to Thomas, "I want to see a liscense before I let you on your merry way." With that he puts a strong hand on Patrick's shoulder and steers him towards one of the cars, assuming no one stops him.
03-23-2010, 08:42 PM
"Of course officer" Thomas says as he pulls out his license. He steps forward immediately and offers it to Stephenson before he can lead Patrick away. "We really should get on our way."
03-24-2010, 11:54 PM
Patrick gives a passing nod to Thomas. It basically says 'Don't worry about me.' Before leading him away Patrick asks.
"Hey man, uh, Thomas. What's your cell number man? So we can hook up once I'm out."
Patrick drills the number into his head, making sure not to forget. Afterall, it's doubtful that the cop would let write it down. After making it into the cop car, Patrick tries to think of a way to get out of this whole mess.
