"Hello. I am a Space Pirate," should have more versatility than merely impressing the boys on the penal colony. It was this thought that drove me to create within my own head and there alone some ideas for creating legal space piracy. I call it, "Fullbladder's Quest for the Legal Space Pirate"

[warning: long, boring, unresearched, amateur]

Consider if you will, a galactic community grown dependent by long millenia on the movement of cargo and sentients between worlds often entirely on the other side. Following common science fiction practise, I decided that the cargo would be transported via some sort of jump-style propulsion, and carried by massive superfreighters.

I dunno. Assuming a setting in which your average ship would not be several miles long, the superfreighters would be that several miles long, almost as wide, and fully automated. There wouldn't be really powerful navigation, just a communications broadcast sending its destination to beacons set up in a highway-type thing, which would direct the superfreighter's jump drive to the next stop along its way. It wouldn't be a perfect system.

The transport of living things would be done differently, but I fleshed it out.

Anyway, the superfreighters on the spacehighway were what I set up for the space piracy. The 'legal space pirate' of this setting woudl be the crews who kept their ship out in deep space, often for weeks at a time, waiting for a superfreighter or even a public transit ship to make a mistake and stray out into international waters.

It wouldn't be that uncommon. Maybe one of two percent of superfreighters would have the barest of malfunctions and the beacons would send them off to a random location at the edge of their jump-range. With their limited navigational capabilities, a superfreighter would now be a crippled drifter. Nearby space pirates would swoop in, fill their own cargo bays, and sell the products to their original destination or other nearby systems. Otherwise they'd just sit out there broadcasting a distress signal until any ship wandered near enough to pick it up.

Of course most experienced space pirates would probably quietly keep certain things for themselves, such as weapons shipments, basic upgrades that they could use, or a portion of supplies. They'd also probably have weapons enough to disable a personal yacht or public transit craft that made the mistake of stopping within reach. They'd try to keep the latter quiet, but the former would probably just be, well, par for course.

This kind of space privateer would end up an odd specimen of his species. At minimum, he'd develop strange accents and behaviors. Grudges, feuds, and alliances would appear amongst the crews frequently found in a given sector. There might be minor wars. Some species or systems/stations would refuse to deal with pirates. The long days of killing time waiting for prey to slip up would make Space Piracy an undesirable job for most people, and everything about the job would keep it from being popular in polite society.

But it would be legal.

Sorry. That was a bit rambly and kinda off-topic. More of a salvager, too. Of course, 'space pirate' would just be the human name for the profession, dictated by decades or even centuries of popular media influencing the rest of the culture.

Um, heh. Usually when I talk about space pirates anymore this is what I'm talking about. And the sort of pirate I'm going to make an avatar out of for this avatar week.

The lines should be thicker. For Inkscape I use 2.0 for standard stuff, 1.0 for some details that don't work at their size with 2 thickness and .5 and .25 for stuff within said details. Note my normal avatar. The body, hat, cloak, holster/gun (except the hammer, that is 1 thickness) and shoes are all 2 thickness. The sheath, buttons, belt buckle and tubes are 1 thickness, while the hat decal (that I would not have noticed if not for the plush) is .5

Okay, here's the idea I have for my space avatar... I'd like to have all black clothing with silver accentuations. I'd like the hair to be down and still spiked. Somewhat like a maddened tangle actually. The goggles should be on, and sort of glowing yellow around the edges.

I have an idea for my avatar, but I'm looking for someone to make it.

I'm thinking that it should be of a warhammer style. The God Emperor of mankind comes to mind when I envision it. He would be standing legs apart in a glorious and layered space armor suit. Emblazoned on its chest would be a demonic scruffy head. In his right hand is a halberd with a machine saw end and blades curving out from under it like talons. His helmet wear would be slightly modified from my original avatar. It should have a longer and more curved U on the front and a spindly sapphire carona surrounding the head. His face should be stern, no smiles and hard eyes.

The entire color scheme would be in the blue spectrum, with the colors straying from powder blue to nearly indigo in shade.

Before I forget, a cape is also needed.

I would be indebted for the rest of my life to whoever is willing to do this.

Sweet. A color change on the design would make it perfect. The boot color and design color is slightly darker in the originals.
