Hey, everybody, I'm just interested, what kind of crafts do you guys do? I use the word "craft" sparingly because I don't mean like "arts and crafts" (ex: glitter and stuff) I mean, like, Dragonrider's crocheting.

Velcro's pretty easy - you just have to make sure the two sides are different. I use mostly sew-on, but you can also get stick-on, which is ridiculously simple.

Jury rigging. I make all kinds of stuff out of the random crap I find lying around, either for a functional purpose or just out of boredom. What I really like, though, is carving. Wood is the easiest in terms of available material and tool availability; a good fixed blade knife and a block of wood can get you really far. Some sandpaper can get you the rest of the way.

My favorite material is walrus tusk, hands down. Admittedly one could handcraft things out of ivory with a bit of sandpaper, a hand drill, and some chisels, but it's a lot faster and more accurate to use a dremel type tool with some good grinding bits. Still need to wet sand by hand with a very very fine grit sandpaper to get that nice finished look, then buff it with wax to make it shine. TOTALLY worth the time and effort. I still have a belt buckle I made sophomore year of high school. Damn I was so much more talented back in those days....:smallfrown:

I sew clothing. At the moment I am sewing a zipper in by hand after finding out my machine does not have a narrow stitching foot, and it would thus look very ugly if I did this with the machine, and am not happy. I may put this aside for a bit and whip up a pair of slippers instead.

I enjoy papercraft once in a while. In fact I haven't done one recently. Maybe I'll get my printer sorted out and look around for something.

I also enjoy soldering (electronics kits and the like) but that's not really crafts in the sense of art I guess...

All depends on what project you're doing. But be prepared to have to invest in a lot of tools if you do anything requiring more metal than, say, a dinner plate.

Already have some tanks and a torch from my grandfathers garage, and for some reason there's a small ARC welder in my basement? Where can I get tanks filled?
