Patchwork Armor 3.x (Help me!)

I need a reference to some solidly founded chart or guidelines for the making of patchwork armor. I'm certain I have seen the ruling in a book. And please, do not mention the thing which does not exist. There is only 3.x, 2nd, advanced, and the original. Nothing else exists.

Do you mean something like the armour rules from GAZ10 Orcs of Thar in the BECMI rules set? What edition are you wanting rules for?

Either 3.0 or 3.5

One (work-heavy) way to do it would be to attach an armor bonus to each armor piece(ie arm guards +.5 or somesuch) and then assemble the armor from the pieces.

there used to be this in a book my friend had, not sure if it was 3rd ed. or 2nd. I think it was in the 2nd edition arms and equipment guide, something along those lines.
