View Full Version : Reliable (and safe) Word to PDF converter?

Hey everyone: can anyone recommend a free online program or website to convert a Word document to PDF? I can find a few on a Google search, but I don't know if there's some bad ones out there (poor conversion, viruses, keeping a copy of the document I'm converting, etc.).

Hmmm..... IIRC, there is one named CutePDF. I haven't used it in a long time, though, I don't know if it does what you want it to do.

If you have adobe acrobat installed you can just print as PDF, I've never had troubles with that.

Also, OpenOffice is free, can read Word documents, and has a PDF export feature.

It does, but only in version 2007 or later, AFAIK.

Google docs. Upload, make sure your formatting is right, and then download as pdf.

Also yeah, some versions of Word anyway can just save in pdf format.

CutePDF is a "printer" that makes PDFs from any document (or anything that you can print). It's good if you don't feel like installing new software. OpenOffice is good just all-around. Google Docs is nice if you want to work in the Cloud a lot.

CutePDF is awesome and works with any software that can send data to a printer.
I recommend using it.

You can install an optional PDF converter for Word. But I do have to second (third? fourth?) CutePDF. Excellent program. Anything you can print can be a PDF.

Though, I am saddned that with all these recommendations, no one has provided a link to CutePDF (http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp).

you've made MS-word 2007 installed ,right? donwload a add-on for MS-word 2007 and install it ,then try to save your word files as pdf files.this is most simple way. anoter suggestion is pdf converter (http://www.rasteredge.com/how-to/csharp-imaging/word-converting/) .which allows word document conversion..

Another vote for CutePDF. It's downright bizzare how easy it is to use.
Did anyone mention that Open Office supports Word's .doc format, and can also export to pdf?
It doesn't support .docx and most people now are too lazy to save as .doc if they have a newer version of Office. Also, .docx has significantly smaller file sizes (like, 30% of .doc)

Damn it. I spent lots of time trying half a dozen different slow, sketchy online ones a few months back when I needed to make some pdfs. Wish I'd known this then.

Another vote for CutePDF. It's downright bizzare how easy it is to use.

So putting it all together...

If you have older versions of MS Word, get open office for your pdf needs.

If you have the new versions (2007 and up), install the pdf export plugin for Word.
