Alright, so a group of friends and I are about to try 4e (the majority of us are 3.5 holdouts, but there is one new player). I just want to form a list of character races and their sources. So, I'll list the following in alphabetical order. Am I missing any?

Total: 40

Deva (Players Handbook II)
Dragonborn (Players Handbook)

Shade and Vryloka are Heroes of Shadow, not Horror.

I think the list is otherwise fine without using the races in teh back on the MM's

Heroes of Shadow seems to fill the same niche that HoH did in 3.5e. That may explain my confusion. What races were in the back of the monster manuals?

Bladeling (manual of the planes)

I'll add that in. Is that the only race in that book?

Thank you.

Does anyone know what races were published in Dragon (excluding Minotaur and Revenant)?

I'm pretty sure it's the githzeri and not the githyanki thats in the PH3

The Gith in the PHB 3 are the Githzerai, an entirely different race from the Githyanki.

Races detailed only in the Monster Manuals (many of the MM1 races are also in later books) are...
MM1: Bugbears, Githyanki, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Kobolds, Orcs. Also the Shadar-Kai, which are fully detailed in Dragon.
MM2: Bullywugs, Duergar, and Kenku.

Also, it's Wilden, not Wildren.

I shall make that correction.

I'll add those in and fix the Wilden.

You are still missing the Gnoll (Dragon 367) and the shifter is from PH 2.

Edit: the Half-Orc is from PH2 as well. Other than that I think that is all the offical ones, In the Conpendium there is 38 so if you add the two new from HoS and combine the two shifters that comes out to 39.

I added them in and made the correction.

Combine the two shifters? There is more than one?

Razorclaw and Longtooth. They're kinda like a race-and-a-half, sharing a racial writeup, getting both individual and shared feats, and two different racial statblocks.

Okay, that explains why I skipped over the other race. I'll separate them on the list.

Anyone have that pdf errata/alternative rule with alternative racial ability modifiers (the one with dwarfs +2 wis, +2 con OR +2 str)? I remember seeing it somewhere and I think it have all the playable races.

Do you mean this one? (http://wizards.com/DnD/Article.aspx?x=dnd/drag/201103abilities) Dwarfs are +2 Con and +2 Wis/Str, rather than +2 Wis +2 Str/Con.

Exactly, thank you

Alluria's got a 3rd party book of additional races, if you're including those.

(Though to be honest, I've heard that they aren't very appealing)

Interesting....

I think I'll leave the list for official races, but what was this book called?

Remarkable Races, I believe. They also have a couple of 3rd party classes that look somewhat interesting.

Are there any mechanical differences between the different types of Genasi?

Sinon

Yes.

Based on their Elemental Manifestation, they get different defense bonuses or resistances, or abilities, and different racial powers.

Are there any mechanical differences between the different types of Genasi?
Yes. There are, I think, thirteen of them: five normal ones, four abyssals, and four athasian.
