I plead not guilty, and I wish to hire Aercath as my legal representative.

Kyrian
12-28-2006, 03:55 PM
Kyrian enters. Good luck with that one, we're still waiting on him in another trial.

Lord Magtok
12-28-2006, 04:31 PM
Lord Magtok steps in sits on the plaintiff side.
If you could see his face, he might've smiled maliciously at Iames.

Lord Iames Osari
12-28-2006, 04:54 PM
In that case, I will defend myself.

Lord Magtok
12-28-2006, 04:55 PM
((Is Wukei available to hire?))

wxdruid
12-28-2006, 04:56 PM
Lord Iames your plea of not guilty is recorded.

(Lord Magtok, you will need to contact Wukei if you want to hire her legal services)

Lord Magtok
12-28-2006, 04:59 PM
((Hmmm... Magtok doesn't actually know anyone in town so...))

I will represent myself as well.

Lord Magtok, do you have an opening statement?

Lord Magtok
12-28-2006, 07:31 PM
The only thing I have to say is that officer
*Points at Iames*
attacked my android, and reduced it to a pile of scrap metal in cold blood. The android did nothing to him, and neither did I.

Iames do you have an opening statement?

Lord Magtok
12-28-2006, 07:37 PM
SASO takes a seat, and eyes Magtok with hatred.

Lord Iames Osari
12-29-2006, 08:31 PM
Only that I wish to ask if the android in question can really be defined as property, given that slavery is not recognized as legal in this town.

wxdruid
12-29-2006, 08:41 PM
That is a very good question, Lord Iames. I think that question must be answered first as the charge is destruction of property.

If neither of you mind, we will answer that question first.

Lord Magtok
12-29-2006, 08:43 PM
((So who speaks next?))

wxdruid
12-29-2006, 08:44 PM
((answer whether you will accept my next course of action))

Lord Magtok
12-29-2006, 08:46 PM
I accept this course of action, your honor. I came prepared for such an question.

Lord Iames Osari
12-31-2006, 01:34 PM
So, Lord Magtok, how do you justify calling this being your property?

Lord Magtok
12-31-2006, 02:11 PM
Just as any individual could own a unsentient dog or a cat, I may own an android with no capacity for free will, no ambitions, and no desires. The droid has no mind of its own, just programmed with speech comprehension, offensive and defensive strategies, and the like. Calling it slavery would be like calling an enchated stone made to follow me slavery.

Lord Iames Osari
12-31-2006, 02:25 PM
Ah, so your android is in a position analagous to that of the warforged prior to the Treaty of Thronehold, on Eberron, and the Treaty of Queme, on Tyrath. Iames turns to Gwen. Your Honor, both those treaties included in their provisions the recognition of warforged as beings with legal status equal to humans, elves, dwarves, and the like, despite the fact that warforged were created by those races to serve as weapons. If the android lacks free will, it is because the creator desired a slave, and I believe that it is not part of this Town's cultural or legal character to allow such things to persist. I move that the android be remanded to the care of the state and given free will.

I think we will need to question the android to find out more. Please bring the android in question forward.

Lord Magtok
12-31-2006, 02:32 PM
ESARS V.2 comes forward.
What do you want, meatbag?

ESARS V.2 comes forward.
What do you want, meatbag?
((Hey, that's my thing))

Lord Magtok
12-31-2006, 02:45 PM
((Actually, the Omnishop did it first. Then I did it. Remember when the agent was referring to fighting androids? This is one of them. He came to Town before you. So HAHA!))

((You still have thrall, though. Thats a good one.))

Lord Iames Osari
12-31-2006, 02:51 PM
Who built you?

Sophistemon
12-31-2006, 03:15 PM
((Actually, the Omnishop did it first.))
((Actually, Knights of the Old Republic did it before I did. ))

((Actually, Knights of the Old Republic did it before I did. ))

((And Futurama beat them to the punch.))

Lord Magtok
12-31-2006, 06:55 PM
((I meant in the Town))

There was no individual who built me. I was created in a factory, and proceeded to destroy the inferior beings there. Later, I was captured and constrained, and put directly under Magtok's comand.

Lord Iames Osari
12-31-2006, 07:20 PM
Who are "inferior beings"? What characterizes them?

Lord Magtok
12-31-2006, 07:26 PM
They were of flesh and bone. They were human. They were unarmed, and I had a pistol. Needless to say, not a single one survived.
The building was in several hundred burning peices several minutes later, and I had escaped to the slums of the city.

Lord Iames Osari
01-03-2007, 01:41 PM
Why did you do that? Kill the humans, that is?

Lord Magtok
01-03-2007, 03:41 PM
The bags of flesh were deemed unessential and unimportant to my sensors, and I had plenty of ammuntion to spare.
The meatbags also would've been witnesses to my attempts to escape my programmed fate, and work as an independent assassin. I insist you give me my independence, so that I may execute and exterminate as I see fit, without concern for a meatbag's wishes.

Lord Iames Osari
01-03-2007, 06:08 PM
Iames looks taken aback, but recovers quickly. He turns to Gwen. Your Honor, I believe it has been demonstrated that the android, though enslaved by the circumstances of its creation, has enough independence to desire more independence. Again, I move that the android be remanded to the care of the state and be granted free will.

wxdruid
01-03-2007, 06:12 PM
Lord Magtok, do you have anything to say?

Lord Magtok
01-03-2007, 06:14 PM
Fine. Go ahead and let a bloodthirsty killer into the streets with no one to control it. Then the android might decide to form a aggravated assualt charge against you.

Lord Iames Osari
01-03-2007, 06:18 PM
Iames smiles, his mind formulating strategies on how to permanently end the android's existence... once it used lethal force against him, of course.

Lord Magtok
01-03-2007, 06:22 PM
Meanwhile, SASO watches.
I really hope Iames knows what he's doing. That series of android models has been messing with me for years. This one seem smarter, but that could be just because he follows orders.

wxdruid
01-03-2007, 06:31 PM
I find that the android is self-aware and sentient, therefore he cannot be property in this Town, slavery is not tolerated. The case against Lord Iames is dismissed and the android in question is remanded into the custody of the state. His guardian is Lord Iames.

Lord Iames Osari
01-03-2007, 06:32 PM
((Magtok: can I use reality revision to rewrite the android's programming to give him free will?))

Lord Magtok
01-03-2007, 06:35 PM
((Yes. However, it shall remain bloodthirsty and evil.))

Magtok bows his hood down in shame, as he had thought this case would end in his favor.

wxdruid
01-03-2007, 06:40 PM
Gwen leaves the courtroom.

Lord Iames Osari
01-03-2007, 06:41 PM
((No problem, as long as I get to kill it later.))

Iames's eyes glow as he manifests reality revision. Congratulations, you are now a free-willed being, with all the rights and responsibilities implied by that quality. Iames leaves the courtroom.

Lord Magtok
01-03-2007, 06:44 PM
Magtok is sent back to in time, where he instantly dies. ESARS v.2 is twisted into a pile of scrap metal in New Stick City, but his self-repair function kicks in, and the rest is in the New Stick City thread.

SASO leaves unscathed by the return to in-time.
