I say go for Inkscape.
Seriously, I've used both and I prefer Inkscape. Adobe has some handy features, but Inkscape is so easy...

Inkscape is free and can be downloaded here.

Your profile doesn't how your age but if you're at all a student anywhere Adobe has "Student Editions" which just means it's under $200. I don't remember exactly what I paid for mine.

Otherwise Inkscape is the way to go. Though you'll also need to download GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) because Inky doesn't support transparency.

Make note of this: Be sure to download the "GTK+" files before Inky, else it won't run.

Assuming you run Windows, here (http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html) is the actual download page. The site is rather tricky to navigate.

I have to be scared about downloading things in case of viruses... it must be safe thoug, because it's a well known company, right?
also, thanks so much, that's a great help!

I wouldn't say it's a well known company but I've downloaded the programs multiple times so it's safe.

I have to be scared about downloading things in case of viruses... I've had no problems with anything like that. Of course considering that the alternative costs $500 I'm willing to take a small risk :smallwink:

Yeah, viruses are easy. $500 is hard.

But Inkscape, while not a commercial program, is a well known open source project. You shouldn't have any problems.

They may have an MD5 checksum on their files as well, to find out if your download has been tampered with.

In any case, you would presumably have antivirus software installed so that you can scan any downloads before running them...?

yup. I just scanned, and downloaded it. now the problem is trying to figure it all out. I just have to spend a couple hours fooling around on the program, and I'll figure it out. thanks, all
