"This is the Trial of Descartes verses the Gufipolice and Regiji.
This is also The trial trial for Exachix.

Here are the Rules:
No fighting in the courtroom. Also, no disruptions, Else I shall warn you and then I'll get the Gufipolice to take you out. Handcuffed.
If you need to be heard, I shall decide if you shall.
All Arguments will be heard. Be Patient.

Could a Representative for Descartes come up and Could a Representative for the Gufipolice and Regiji come up also.

The Gufipolice are accused here of the following:
Wrongful arrest
Prisoner Mistreatment."

Descartes enters the courtroom, floating on a small orb of Psionic energy. His beak has been tied shut so he can't eat anyone's brains. He speaks through telepathy with a range of one hundred feet.

I'll be representing myself.

Regiji enters the court and takes a seat behind the defendant's table. A massive obsidian monolith set with an odd white symbol set in it materializes next to him.

"Our client pleads not guilty on both charges," the stone slab says. Well, at least the white veins of white energy within the monolith pulse in tempo with the words. The plea sounds like it's coming from everywhere in the room at once.

[Exachix]

"Right. Both Pleas have been recorded. Descartes, please call your first witness."

[Nevrmore]

Descartes floats over the table and to the stand, turning around.

I call Regiji to the stand.

[Rebonack]

Regiji nods and steps up to the witness stand.

[Exachix]

"Regiji please come to the- Oh.

Regiji, do you swear in the name of [Your Diety's name here] that you will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?"

[Rebonack]

"By the name of the Shepherds I do so swear," Regiji responds.

"Eeerr... you mean he may now question the witness?" he asks, sounding rather confused. "If he may not question me then wouldn't that defeat the whole point of the trial?"

"Yes. Sorry!"

Descartes floats from one side to the court to another several times, trying his best to look like he's pacing or something.

Regiji, is it true that you were the one who caught me and took me to the police station?

"That is true," he responds tritely.

Mmmhmm, mmhmm, interesting. Can you tell us for what reason you thought it suitable to attack and apprehend me, and on what authority you had to make such decision?

[Rebonack]

"According to Gufipolice regulation wanted suspects that have used lethal force in the past to evade capture can be incapacitated to decrease the likelihood that they will harm officers, themselves, or innocent onlookers during their arrest," Regiji responds to the first question. "I was given the authority to carry out this action by Captain Iames as the head of the Gufipolice."

And what charges were against me to warrant apprehension?

[Rebonack]

"Several counts of murder and assault. Resisting arrest. Assaulting an officer of the law. Attempted theft. And indiscriminant use of NPCs as improvised thrown weapons."

Very interesting..Now, can you tell me how you came to the conclusion that it was I whom committed these various crimes?

"Several witnesses saw a Neolithid exploding from brain eating victim's heads. As the only known Neolithid in Town you ended up being the only suspect."

"No, not as such," Regiji responds. "Most witnesses as well as those Raised after their brains were consumed described the suspect as an indistinct purple blob, though the description 'disgusting purple octopus' was used as well."

"When we pulled a creature that fit the description of a 'disgusting purple octopus' out of a dead shark's skull. That and you looked the same as the creature who exploded out of the head of one of the soldiers who had attacked the temple of Inari, an event that I witnessed first hand."

Interesting. Now, can you point out exactly where the warrant for my arrest was posted?

"Warrants for arrest aren't used here, to my knowledge," Regiji responds. "A suspect is mentioned by name and what they are wanted for in the case files. Because your name was un-known such was not the situation for the string of murders involving the consumption of the victim's brains through holes in the back of their head and assaults perpetrated by said victims after they were dead."

A small folder floats over to Descartes.

Exhibit A. He says, opening it.

Inside of this folder, you'll find the case file for many different criminals, both captured and uncaptured. I think you will be hard-pressed to find any name, description, or list of crimes similar to the ones I have been accused of perpetrating, because it does not exist.

The monolith speaks up at this question.

"Objection, your honor," it thrums, white light pulsing through it in synch with each syllable. "The prosecution is making unsubstantiated claims in regards to the nature of our client's actions."

"Objection allowed. Descartes, please re-state your question in such a way so that it does not imply anything about Regjij's actions or behaviour."

Right, well. Anyway, Regiji, can you explain what you did after you captured me for my alleged crimes?

"Upon extracting you from the already dead shark you were currently occupying I threatened to incapacitate you if you didn't cease causing harm to my person. You complied and I returned you to the police station where upon you were placed in a chest to insure your inability to escape from the cell block."

Please explain, in detail, the nature of the chest you imprisoned me inside.

"I placed you in the box, I didn't imprison you. Any further imprisonment and/or conditions you experienced while at the station were the responsibility of the Gufipolice. It was only my duty to see that you were delivered there."

"The box was of a darkwood banded steel make," Regiji responds. "The wood was polished inside and out and fastened with a heavy lock. It also had a volume of several hundred cubic centimeters more than a human skull."

Interesting...Now, as you and I know, I was put and locked in this box...did you happen to put any, I don't know, airholes in this box beforehand?

"I did not put any air holes in the box, no."

"After getting a good chance to look at you between your capture and incarceration a fair deal I would say."

Backtracking a bit, I'd like you to discuss exactly what I was doing when you captured me.

Was the shark moving in any way, shape, or form?

[Rebonack]

"Not at the time it was found, no," Regiji responds.

So, is it not possible that, instead of me controlling the shark as people would have everyone to believe, I was simply resting inside it's cranium as a convenient and warm spot for sleep?

"While that is possible it would beg the question of what an apparently telepathic shark was doing in Town."

Is the trial about an apparently telepathic shark, sir?

"The trial is about whether or not you were wrongfully arrested, as such the state of your last host is quite relevant. So yes, the trail is about whether there was a possessed or telepathic shark in Town."

But do you know for full and certain that this shark was indeed controlled by me, if I do in fact possess any such ability to do so at all?

[Rebonack]

"The shark moved after I prodded it," Regiji responds. "Animals that have been without a brain for extended periods of time usually don't move under their own power. I can say that I was convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that you were, in fact, controlling the shark."

May I remind you that you were forcefully jabbing the body of a shark? Is it not possible that your actions caused the body to shift position and you mistook it for moving?

"Poking a dead, frozen animal with a stick wouldn't cause its muscles to contract in such a manner as to attempt to move away from said stick," Regiji responds. "As such, I feel that can be ruled out safely."

Here's another sugestion though, let rebo post the entire thing and if nevrmore has an objection at any point, let him quote the part just before his objection, deal with it, then rebo posts the rests of his questions. seems easier to me.[]

“Yes, one of the attackers was missing when I helped the priests gather the bodies,” Regiji responds.

“And is it true that you found a corpse that didn’t belong to one of these soldiers?” speaks the monolith once more.

“Yes, there was a dead winged humanoid as well.”

“Was the cause of his death apparent?” the monolith continues.

[Nevrmore]

Descartes burps in the corner, having no objections.

[Rebonack]

"The winged humanoid had taken a number of rather serious wounds, but he one that would have actually killed him was the sizable hole in the back of his head and the fact that the entreaty of his brain was missing."

"Very well. When did you next see this missing solider?"

[Nevrmore]

Descartes has an objection!

"At Trog's tavern the following day."

"And what did you do when you saw him?"

[Nevrmore]

"I recognized him as one of the soldiers from the temple and attempted to restrain him," Regiji responds. "Both because of the attack and because I had reason to believe that he may have been harboring the parasite that myself and several officers thought was causing the case of missing brains."

"Very well. How did that encounter end?"

[Exachix]

"The man's head exploded and a creature identical in appearance to Descartes emerged and fled the scene."

McBish enters. Your honor the Town Police is willing to accept the Stone Slab as council if he so wishes. If he doesn't I will take over.

"We are here only to defend our own," the monolith thrums. "We must respectfully decline."

Regiji leans back in his chair, wondering if he is going to be asked to step down from the witness stand soon.

[McBish]

McBish sighs and pulls out a breifcase and searches among the many files and sits down and reads up on this case.

((Quit commiting crime people, to many trials.))

Regiji steps down from the witness stand and proceeds to sit behind the defendant's table.

Miatog enters the room and looks around. He quickly identifies the people he needs to and takes the stand.

Miatog's face becomes the perfect poker face once the question is asked, his voice becomes mono toned. No way anyone can read off how he reacts, you only get what you hear from this witness. "I was there to visit someone else but did talk with you before the one I had intended to talk to."

How would you describe the 'cell' that they had me kept in, Miatog?

[Miatog]

“At a glance the cell itself seems normal. However, the cell bars were made of adamantine and had enchantments to keep magic and psionic abilities from working. You were being kept in a box within the cell. The box was simple looking and about as big as a basketball. It was also enchanted to keep magic from working. The lid was kept shut with a pad lock.”

In your own words, how would you describe the extent they took into keeping me imprisoned?

“A great deal, more then the other prisoners.”

"Do you think this excessive imprisonment was necessary from what you gathered when you spoke with me?"

“Not in the least. Some force between the bars or even just boarding up the bars would have been enough to keep you in, no need for the small anti-magic box.”

How long were you in the prison?

“It’s hard to say with the lack of linear time, but I believe it was two days.”

And in those two days, did you see any officer communicate with me in any way, question me, interact with me, or even feed me?

"No formal questioning. I seem to recall some questions being yelled from an officer's desk, but they were more on a being to being rather then officer to prisoner. Other then that, no."

"Regiji, you may now question the witness."

“Thank you your honor,” the monolith thrums. “Mr. Miatog, were you aware of any present magical effects on the cells at the police station?”

[Miatog]

"What magic was on the cells didn't concern me so I didn't actively seek them out. However I would have to be punched with a mystical Gorilla incased in a ton of lead being swung by a wrecking ball to miss the ones that kept magic and psionics from working."


Despite the obvious humor in the statement, Miatog still has his blank look and mono toned voice. It possibly adds to the humor of it all the more.

Yes how long did you visit the prisoner?

[Miatog]

“I was in the prison for about two days. Thanks to the non liner time of the Town I didn’t talk to him that entire time, though I was aware of what was going on during that time.”

And during this time you never claim to never have seen the faires feed the prisoner despite the fact that it is clearly posted that they do so?

[Miatog]

"Because they didn't. I saw them take statements, let prisoners out, and make coffie."

Fairies Godric, Ravina, Krista, and Feorwyn are about the station to help take statements, open cells to release prisoners after time is served, and make fresh pots of coffee for waiting persons. Please use as you feel necessary. Godric -he has a superiority attitude, Ravina -she only to happy to help and will give you flowers, Feorwyn - She is pretty darn surly for a lady, and Krista -she just wants to get the work done and is always running around hecticly.

During your time in the station did you eat?

[Miatog]

"No, for I have no need. I have set up through what was called 'genetic magic' a constant nourishment stream to 'feed' me as needed."

[McBish]

Did you see Descrates suffer any ill affects?

[Miatog]

"There were no ill effects that I could see while he was in a box."

[McBish]

Miatog relaxes and returns to his normal self. “It was a pleasure to participate in this pursuit of the truth.” Miatog gets up and walks out of the courtroom.

Descartes thinks for a few moments.

"Regiji's Monolith, any witnesses?"

A female human in a slate gray uniform bearing the same holy symbol inscribed upon the monolith suddenly pops into the courtroom and takes.

Descartes speaks up.

Hey, hey! Who the hell is that? She isn't a witness!

[Rebonack]

"While Cepherel is not a first hand witness of the crimes she has, however, examined the information gathered on those who perished," the monolith thrums. "As such, she will provide her expert testimony regarding their cause of death."

[Nevrmore]

She doesn't look like any sort of coroner to me.

[Rebonack]

"Her appearance when before the court is of little relation to her technical skill and experience," the monolith responds. "We will allow Your Honor the Judge decide the issue."

A folder detailing the woman's impeccable credentials suddenly pops into existence on the judge's desk.

[Exachix]

Exachix looks at the credentials to check.

[Rebonack]

They are, as mentioned already, impeccable.

"Ok, apoligies milady but the court will adjorn until further notice"

Exachix returns to reality and looks at Cepherel.

"Ok, Milady. Will you speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing by the truth, in the name of [deity].

[Rebonack]

"By the Shepherds I do so swear," the woman responds.

"Monolith, You may now question the witness."

[Rebonack]

"Very well, your honor," thrums the stone slab. "Cepherel, would you please state your Duty for the court?"

"Of course, Oracle. My Duty is to serve as a combat tactician. I specialize in analyzing both friendly and hostile units to determine cause of death and how best to improve both combat procedure and equipment to maximize enemy losses while minimizing Flock casualties."

"Very well. From your expert opinion, how would you say the bodies you examined for this case died?"

"A sizable portion of their brain and upper spinal chord was removed."

"By what means?"

"Judging from the nature of the hole bored into the skull, an oral disk was adhered to the occipital portion of the head. Rasping teeth were then employed to grind through the skull and the brain was then sucked out."

[Exachix]

Exachix raises a hand.

"Any Objections will be sorted at the proper time, remember that. If Descartes here has a problem with one of your questions you will allow him to speak after the question has been asked. Are you ok with that?"

[Exachix]

"Very well. Is it true that you ran a genomic analysis on the fragments of the victim's skull?"

The woman nods.

"Yes, Oracle, I did."

Objection! I'm not an illithid, I'm a larvae illithid. I'm sure that the wounds that a mature illithid's beak and my own would make would be very different.

Descartes is, admittedly, fishing for some footholds here.

I highly doubt that any of you know what the wound of a larval illithid's prey would look like. Descartes continues objecting.
