View Full Version : Texas Hold'em (Gauging interest)

Awhile back, The Roaming Gnome set up a poker game in the SMBG forum and it turned to out to be decently popular until he mysterious disappeared, leaving us in mid-game. I am looking to start that up again.
So, there are three matters at hand:
First, is anyone interested in starting this back up?
Second, does anyone know a good free card generator that will generate random card orders?
Third, in anyone interested in being dealer for this? I will if needed, but ideally I'd like to be the one taking all your money.
For those who don't know what Texas Hold'em is, I direct you to Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_hold_'em)

I'll play. I'd love to take your money Lucky. And I'm sure Alarra would too...though she'll end up taking mine.
I HAVE AN ACE!!

I'd play. Don't know any card generators though. Might be best to just get a deck of cards and deal, then PM people with what they get.
Oh, and I HAVE TWO ACES!

7 card stud is my preferred poker version, but I'll give it a go.

I'll volunteer for dealer/controller.
I've never actually played before, but I just read the wikipedia article, and the old hold'em threads and it doesn't look too hard.
Definitely looks like there is interest around :-)
Basically the job is just to PM the players what the hole cards are, and call for bets?
Does anyone object to the rules being as they were in the original thread?

Basics
Everyone starts with 300 chips.
Ante: 2
Small blind: 4
Big Blind: 8
That means the blinds(including ante) will total 6 and 10 respectively.
When its around to you, you have 24 hours to respond, after which you are deemed to have folded and play carries on.
Any other rules people can think of?
With regards to the card generator, it shouldn't be that hard.
The main thing I would want to know is when do the cards get shuffled?
Between each round, or after several?

I'll play- though I only know the rules for regular poker. I'll just look online.

Uhm...short question: Do we play with or without limit? For the sake of quick games and high tension, I would vote for No Limit.
Oh and also we should increase Ante/SB/BB whenever we have made a full circle (everyone been BB once). That way, we might actually finish a table someday.

The main thing I would want to know is when do the cards get shuffled?
Between each round, or after several?
Usually the cards get shuffled after every pot. Two cards to each player, round of betting, then one card burned (no one sees it) and three cards dealt face up (aka Flop), another round of betting, one more card burned and one more up (aka Turn), another round of betting, one more card burned and a final card face up (aka River). Final round of betting. Best 5 card hand out of seven cards. After money is distributed, cards shuffled, new pot.

Oh and also we should increase Ante/SB/BB whenever we have made a full circle (everyone been BB once). That way, we might actually finish a table someday.I agree, also helps if anyone decides to leave without notification, their chips will whither away into the pot each hand. I would like to suggest the rasining of ante/SB/BB with every elimination.
I'll play if there's still room (last game had 10 slots). They don't call me double-deuce Supagoof for nothing.

So far we seem to have the following 14 players:
Alarra
Captain van der Decken
Castaras
Chunklets
Death, your friend the Reaper
Destro_Yersul
Indurain
Kyrian
Lucky
Malmagor Andrigal
purple gelatinous cube o' Doom
Silkenfist
Supagoof
Timberwolf
Next question: table size. Last game was run with a table size of 6. Was that ok for everyone? With current numbers (plus maybe a few more) we're beyond that already. At this point I think we could go 2 tables of 8 players, or 3 tables of 6, each in its own seperate thread.
Comments? Suggestions?

I'd say 2 tables of 7/8. Since more people want to be players than dealers, it might be hard to get a third dealer.
I say let's do it up.

We could likely just start now and go with two tables of seven, as this seems to have dropped off the first page anyways.

Right then, I'll get going on some preparations.
Expect the new threads to show up in the next few hours, closely followed by PMs in your mailboxes.
Unless there are any objections I'm going to run the games with a Pot Limit.
You can only raise by the amount currently sitting in the Pot.

Alarra points out to evnafets that lucky already made threads for him.

Gah...Limit poker sucks....NO LIMIT...NO LIMIT...NO LIMIT...NO LIMIT!!! It's actually a lot easier.

Eh....limit'll take longer. I'm a fan of no-limit myself, but either way.

Right then.
Your cards are sent, if anyone has NOT received a PM from me please let me know.
Given the current feedback on limits, with all in favour of no limit, and nobody in favour we'll dispense with them. (crash of smashed crockery in background as they get chucked away)
The sky is the limit folks!
Going offline for a while. Will be checking back in an hour or so.
