Assembled here tonight are characters from all over the world, come to test their skill at this most worthy of pastimes.
The stakes... well not much at all really, but maybe some bragging rights at the end.
Most important is to play fair, and have fun (This is SMBG after all)

With no further ado evnafets dextrously pulls a pack of cards out from his sleeve, triple ruffle shuffles, and sends cards flying in every direction which somehow manage to end up all face down in front of the correct players.

Firstly, we continue to call, bet and raise until everyone, who is still in the game, has contributed an equal amount of chips.
Then, the flop (three cards) is revealed, which is followed by another round of calling betting and raising until everyone has contributed equally or left.

You can raise the stakes even before the flop is revealed. Just wait until it is your turn, then increase the bet.

Supagoof walks up to the table. You can hear a jingle from his stirrups as he takes his seat. In his hand, a small glass of scotch. In his mouth, a cigar, half smoked. He flops in his two chips even before looking at his cards. As he does, a smile comes across his face, as he sets them down awaiting for the two preceeding him to make their bids. Glancing around the table, he sees the others.

Castaras - her reputation as one of the finest females in poker proceeds her, if luck was indeed a lady, then those two knew each other well

Silkenfest - the monk with the zen ability to tell what is and isn't a good hand. His innate ability to fold when he was beat has puzzled the pro's for years.

Death - more often then not, this opponent has been seen at the table giving the off-suit duece/seven combo, which many a fool has drawn upon, not realizing they were playing with the dead man's hand, sure he claims to be your friend the reaper, but where was he when someone was drawing dead?

Destro - there's something fishy about this player, Supagoof hadn't spotted it yet, but his gut told him so. Maybe it ws the shifty eyes...

The purple gelatinous cube o' Doom - how he played is anyone's guess, Supagoof just hopes that the dealer cleans the cards off every shuffle, less they be marked with jelly for cheatin' later

Malmagor Andrigal - known for his luck on the river.

Such a crowd would be tough competition. Supagoof would have to be careful with his tells, as he quickly disolves the smile from his face.

He spots the casino security Alarra, making her appearance known so no one cheats. This wouldn't be like playing in the old west, but the pistol in his boots was there just in case.

"Howdy boys, ma'am" he says, nodding to each of them in greeting. Taking a slow, long drawn out puff on his cigar, he asks "Feeling lucky tonight?"

edit: Doh, sorry Destro. I forgot about the big blind option, and may have prevoked the flop before you had a chance.

For others, the option allows the big blind, if a raise hasn't been made (which it hadn't, we all just matched the big blind), to either check (since he was pre-emptively matched to stay in) or raise. Since the big blind has to put in the 10 chips (ante plus blind) every time, it allow them to manuaver just as we could by raising pre-flop.

Supagoof looks as David94 comes over to the table. The dim lights of the room make it hard to see his features at first, but when he comes into view, he's holding a fresh tray of chips.

Welcome to the game son. Always more room for someone to lose their money. He smiles as he says this, switching his cigar from the left to the right side of his mouth without using his hands.

Supagoof takes a sip of whiskey. With his other free hand, he places coins into to two stacks, then shuffles them into one. He repeats this over and over waiting for players to make their moves.

Destro leans back in his chair. No cigar for him. No chips, or whiskey, or in fact any refreshments at all. 'Lo. He grins very widely and arranges his coins into piles. How you doing? Then he motions to the dealer that He'll call on his turn.

((That should not always be assumed. The big blind may want to raise if they have a good hand before the flop, so that option should be there for them. You can call that for yourself if you like PGCoD, but I'd prefer to have it.

Also, not to flood evnafets pm, but if a player knows it will be sometime before they come back to the boards, PM him so he can call/raise/fold on your behalf.))

Supagoof once again looks around the table, checking each player's face to determine if the cards they have are worth it or not. Castaras had folded, which is not a bad idea. The last hand probably stung a bit, and taking a round to re-group rather then play tilted is never a bad idea. It seems that others have stepped up though. Whether it was only to see if they could make a hand, or if they felt like coming after him, he wasn't quite sure. He was the big stack after all, and therefore the largest target at the table, but it's also where he was most comfortable. He took another sip of his whiskey, waiting for the flop to fall.

With regards to raising past the money that other players currently have, I am unsure of the rules in this regard. Its either force a fold, or they go all in with what they can.

Sorry there, I have been working to much on my poker face *Perfected it almost*, yet not enough on the rules.

What happens is that the person that has less money then is needed to call has 2 options, he can either fold or go all in.

If he goes all in, a side pot is made which holds all of the chips above what he was able to call.

If you have chips in a sidepot and fold, you are NOT folding from the main pot, as bidding has stopped for it. (NOTE: some casinos say that folding is folding and you’re out of all pots. So this is up to the dealer.)

Once bidding is done and it's time to see who has the best hand, first you deal with the highest sidepot (the most possible is number of players-1) and work your way to the main pot. Hands are only reveled as needed for each pot.

Now that I've been all helpful and stuff would it be possible for me to come in with say 250?

If you have chips in a sidepot and fold, you are NOT folding from the main pot, as bidding has stopped for it. (NOTE: some casinos say that folding is folding and you’re out of all pots. So this is up to the dealer.)

If we're playing by World Poker rules then folding is folding. If you fold in anyway shape or form you lose all rights to any pots. This is commonly why if two people call one person's all in, they check it the rest of the way down. 2 people have better odds to take 1 person down. It's better to have less people at the table than win 1 pot.

Perhaps evnafets can clarify something for me on the the pot...while I clarify something for everyone on bidding.

When the turn is around to you, you may have four* options.
*Check - If it costs you nothing to stay in the game, and you don't want to pay anything to stay in the game, you can check - same as passing on the option to raise. Most commonly after the flop.
Example. Player 1 is first to act after the flop. He checks. Player 2 is next, and also checks. Both are still in the game. Since player 1 didn't raise/bid, player 2 also won't have to raise/bid to stay in the game.
Fold - leave the hand without sending money into the pot. You can fold at any time, but if you have the option to check, you may want to do that, as it won't cost you anything to stay.
Call - A person in front of you has raised on their turn. You may call - means putting in the amount to match the raise.
Raise - You want more money in the pot, so you raise the minimum bid to stay in. If you raised once, and everyone called, you can not re-raise. If you raised once, and someone after you raised again, you can re-raise or call.
Example. P1 bets 20. P2 calls. Betting has ended this round.
P1 bets 20. P2 bets 40 (20 call/20 raise). P1 then calls the additional raise. Betting has ended this round.

*Check is not available if person bidding before you has raised any amount of money.

This is where I'm needed the clarity on what is being done with Death's hand. Destro already called, so unless Malmagor raises again, a side pot won't need to be started. If Mal calls, we go to river card. If Mal folds, we go to the river card. If Mal raises, play continues onto Death (fold/call/raise), then to Destro (fold/call/raise.).

From what I read, Death was asking if he could raise (which was on his turn so yes.) and then did so when that was confirmed. Is this correct, or is Death asking to raise yet another 100 after Mal's turn? (Which he could only do if Mal raises...and this would cause the sidepot.)

((And, for gameflow, I have no problem with autofolding someone after 24 hours. Anyone have an objaction to auto-booting someone from the table if they are auto-folded 2 times in a row?

I also have no objection to more being added to the table, but I'm the big stack so it's easy to say that. If I was the short stack, I'd be a little miffed about someone coming in with a fresh pile of chips when I'm at the ropes end, so I propose this. You can enter the table at the same amount of chips as the short stack had at the begining of this round (before the ante) - sound good?))

Big blind - Already contributed the minimum bet into the pot automatically.
Small blind - already contributed 1/2 the minimum bet into the pot.

Purpose: To ensure there are hands played every time. Makes it easier on the dealer. Otherwise a round where everyone has low cards, they could all just fold, - then what would be the point.

You gotta pay to play!

So, Mal, since you are big blind - unless somebody raises, you will have paid to see the flop. People must match your amount to call and see the flop. If everyone calls around to you (again, no raises), you have the option to raise, but don't have to since you're already matched with the betting.

Small blind has already paid 1/2, and must call to match the big blind. They too can raise pre-flop. If they do, then at this time, and only at this time, can the raise be lower then the big blind. (Why you'd want to only raise by 1,2,3 (bid of 5,6,7) is beyond me, but that option is there.)

So, for me, since I'm first to act after the big blind, I have three options. I can Call the eight chips, Raise (8 to call + whatever I want to raise by), or Fold. Check is not an option for me, as I have to call the big blind to stay.

Looking at the cards I have for this hand, I'm going to FOLD.
