farts are funny, they will always be funny, as is anything involving the ass. from a dog licking it to ass cancer. some may also be sad, but its an inherently funny organ. its even better when included in the middle of a serious political discussion.

Fart jokes, like poop jokes and the like, are a way of poking holes people's hubris. Deflating pride is a common thing for humor to do.

The joke usually implicit in fart jokes is that man, who frequently thinks of himself as being a complete a master of his own being, can't stop himself from creating noisy, foul smelling emissions of gas out of a hole in his rear end. The assumptions made for the joke are more or less "farts are icky" and "humans aren't supposed to be icky".

If farts and such don't particularly bother you, or if you don't think of humans as being inherently better than any other animal, just more complex, than the humor of fart jokes probably isn't readily apparent.

Now that I've produced a reasonable hypothesis on how it's supposed to work, you are most certainly never going to find the joke funny for the rest of your life. If anyone needs me to suck the life out of any other jokes, just lemme know.

Like everything else, there are good fart jokes and bad ones. It's more about the presentation than the fart itself, but they've got the potential to be really, really funny.

Farts are like a punchline. It's all about timing, if you get the timing wrong, it's just a smelly expulsion of gas, but if is given the correct timing, hilarity ensues. That said, it's rarely funny, and when it is, its normally due to a fluke.
