The DM gave a deliciously gruesome description of what happened to him when he was whisked off onto the Etherial Plane, but then remembered that he didn't mention that you drop everything you're holding when you're hit with "Hold Person", so "fortunately" for the wizard, he got to smash his Rod of Power (I think)... and ended up on the Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus. Next to a bunch of demons.
Helluva way to leave the group...
