View Full Version : Aquatic Variant on humans

So, I'm going to make a slightly aquatic human for my campaign world. The society lives on a raft-city, and is always in the water.
I'm thinking they get a 30 ft. Swim Speed and 2x underwater breathing time in exchange for the human bonus feat. Is this overpowered, underpowered, or alright?

Should be fine. You also might want to take a look at Unearthed Arcana's aquatic races (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/environmentalRacialVariants.htm#aquaticRaces), of which humans (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/environmentalRacialVariants.htm#aquaticHumans)are one.

Hmm...handy. I'll probably use some of these, what with the sea-based campaign world :smallbiggrin:
Won't work for these guys though, it is just humans who have lived on the surface of the ocean for a really long time.

I was going to suggest the Aquatic Humans that Fax pointed out, but I realized that they can't breathe air (as far as I can tell), and that could be a good thing.
If you have Races of Destiny, though, there's a race called the Sea-kin or something like that. If I recall correctly, they have everything humans have and have swim speeds and can hold their breath for a long time. The only downside is they have to spend a small amount of time completely submerged every week(?) or they start to drown.
It might be worth checking out. But, if not, I'd say that your variant works fine (though I might up the length of time they can hold their breath).

It's not exactly to your specifications, but the Aventi race from Stormwrack is pretty much aquatic humans.
