From the OP's own secondary comments, it sounds exactly like that was the idea.

They are contests, just not contests that you can win. There are winners, losers, underdogs, & landslides. Anything in which the results are determined by voting can be considered a contest.

Well if you're going to do this Vote-Up-An-X style, you gotta do it proper, methinks. You have to come up with several categories, and a number of options within each category. Hold voting for each category spread over set periods.

This could be difficult to do for a contest, though. Tough to narrow it down to categories.

I was really just wondering if you were going to actually have 3.5 or 4e be up to a vote, or if you were only going to go ahead if there was an overwhelming vote for 3.5. Just letting you know, there are quite a lot of us who would love to see more 4e homebrew and would prefer a contest or a Vote-Up-A be done in 4e.

Can't say I'm opposed to the idea, I'm just not the guy to do it. I'm not a big 4e fan and I'm new to 3.x homebrew, so there'll be enough there to occupy me for a while. Sorry.

Yeah, I could go for arcane, but only if it includes all magic that isn't divine (all magic that isn't divine being binding, truespeak, incarnum, shadow magic, and...well, that's pretty much it.)

If Arcane doesn't cover all those possibilities, then Other- Incarnum.

I have no problem incorporating the two, but that's the next step. The other category is for things that don't fit the current theme, like, I dunno...Ooze-fueled battle chugger. Whatever the hell that is. Pick one or the other (Martial sounds like a better choice for the concept as I envision it) and I'll incorporate the overall idea into the next round.

At the moment, my thoughts are leaning towards a not-sucky soulknife, except more broad in its scope and utilizing soul power (Incarnum/arcana-with-a-soul-flavor) as opposed to psionic power. With enough different aspects to keep people happy, of course.

How about uses a soul-binding knife to kill a ghost and use it's remains in a ritual to gain power. Something like the grim reaper but with an exotic weapon

No, it's not dead. It takes time to homebrew a class. Especially considering I'm trying to be relatively creative with it. Please note all release or post dates I say in the near future are abstract ideas; could be, maybe, kinda sorta? I am working diligently on it, though, and hopefully it will be up to par with the original (and afroakuma-run) Vote Up A...'s.
